This is the kindest thing that Sawyer ever did for Jack. Jack so badly needed to hear this, he needed this catharsis, so he could stop blaming himself for his father's death. And Sawyer knew he might never get another chance to tell him. Such a great scene ❤
The setup of this scene is just genius. The characters are rivals up to this point in the series. You have Jack who departed on bad terms with his father. Despite of his anger and hate towards his father its pretty obvious that he cares for the man. You have Sawyer who despite of some of his less knightly history and appearance can't help but to do the right thing. Both of them have the usual assumptions and prejudice about the other person. Jack might be the character that this scene is made for (it is about his father after all) but it is Sawyer (or James rather) who's the most ironic person to relay the story to him. I think you can see it the moment Sawyer is going "He's proud. And he loves him." He's probably just being sympathetic. But the fact that he lost his parents as a kid makes it painfully ironic. He would have wanted to hear those words from his parents. But he didn't. And he can't. So I think that he is doing this for himself as much as he is doing this for Jack. That look on Sawyer's face when Jack is about to leave at 1:00 is just priceless. You can almost see him going, "Damn, I should just keep my mouth shut. But..."
This scene is all about Sawyer and his process of opening his heart not only to others but to himself. His true self is good and kind. In his flashbacks we saw he took the easy way. Revenge is an easy emotion. But there was always a hesitation. He always knew it was wrong and wouldn’t bring him what he needed. Even killing Anthony Cooper didn’t do it for him. Giving to someone, like what he gave to Jack in this scene, gives him what he needs. What he needs is a path before him that leads him to Juliet. With Juliet he becomes more his true self.
"See, kids are like dogs, you knock em around enough, they'll think they did something to deserve it." Gives me chills every. single. time. Impeccable acting.
@@stumpsteph2153 It's difficult to admit to yourself that you do care about the people around you when you hate yourself. When I was a kid and first watched this show I just didn't understand Sawyer's need to be punished, I thought it was otherwordly, completely unrelatable and something that only happens in movies but I grew up to be EXACTLY like this. The older you get, the more you experience life, the better this show becomes. The actual plot is very inconsistent as we all know, but the drama and the characters are the greatest in the history of television.
Dude finishing it was so good but so sad at the same time. Like never being able to watch it again with the same mystery, the same interest in a way. If only we could forget one thing in life, I'd forget lost to rewatch it
oh man, why i gotta randomly search for scenes from lost every now and then, only a couple of things in life do such a thing but this fucking brings me to tears :/
I absolutely love this scene. The Ben/Jack scene about the Red Sox was a close second for me. I know a lot of folks hated how this show ended, but I, for one, enjoyed the entire ride.
This is the definitive scene I knew I would fall in love with the show. The subtle caring in the part of Sawyer to never just come right out and say I met your dad is such a beautiful nuance
God i wish i could just wipe my mind of this show so i can rewatch it all and be fully mesmorized by how good of a show this was. It had its faults down the road but it definitely was by far one of the best shows to date ive seen.
Noticed your comment brother scrolling through I watched the series when it was originally released. I made a purpose staying away from it until recently. I may have watched some videos of important scenes like this, but watching it second time round 10-15 years later was great. Of course not as good as first time around, but there was so much that I missed Awesome, awesome show. I can never understand some of the hate it gets. Great story telling with a great cast
There are so many connections, like this one, that the survivors had with one another. This was one of the rare times it was discovered by both characters. I kinda think aside from them being there to help protect the island, they were there to help and heal each other from their past hardships. Of course however they were always focused on leaving the island, that they never realized it. Thats what made this show one of the greatest.
It is 2020, quarantine and I am rewatching so many shows that I love. I am currently rewatching Lost and tonight I will finish season 1, damn I saw this last night and I burst into tears just like I did so many years ago
When I first saw this episode with my sister, (who had already seen it) after this scene I yelled “DOES HE EVER TELL HIM!!” My sister just smiled and played the next episode.
What really liked was how Sawyer continued to look Jack dead in the eye even after Jack turned away after hearing his Dads final feelings. Sawyaer knew that this was going to be painful for him and as such contiued to look at him. He knew Jack need to hear this becease it was possibly his last chance
How I love this scene! And I cry everytime. I just love Matthew's vulnerability. He plays it so emotional. Jack will always be my favourite character on LOST! Very well acted from Josh Holloway too! ❤❤❤❤
Still my favourite scene in Lost. The acting is just incredible and love how it ends up being these two polar opposites who connect over something so tender and genuine.
What a magnificient scene. Probably one of the best scenes in the entire show. Lost has a special place in my heart, i feel special about all the characters and every time i see something related i cant stop thinking how much i like this show.
I was saying this to someone the other day. I did not fall in love with the characters on GoT like I did on the island. Lost is great because of the characters.
wow. the blocking, lighting and camerawork in this scene are so well done. combined with the wonderful acting from holloway and fox makes it one of the most memorable scenes of the entire series
this show took it to an emotional level nothing else i have watched has done. and i have watched a lot. i feel like i know these characters personally, and it rips my heart out seeing them suffer. without a doubt, the best tv show ever.
They are like true siblings--at time rivals, at times fighting, but when push comes to shove, they support each other. They rush in to the jungle together to stop Ana Lucia with the gun, to go save Michael, to go get Walt, to rescue Hurley from Keamy's strike team.
How much it must have stung Jack that Sawyer was one of the last persons that his own father spoke to. AND that Christian was more candid, more honest, and self-revelatory toward Sawyer than to his own son. The sense of turmoil that Jack must have felt.
The episode where Sawyer meets Christian (Outlaws) contains a scene where it is already believed that Sawyer is going to tell Jack everything, but he does not. This scene and that of Outlaws is full of commonalities. However, the characters performing the actions are reversed. Here, Sawyer chops wood, receives a gun from Jack, talks about Christian while Jack listens silently. In Outlaws, Jack chops wood, receives a gun from Sawyer, talks about Christian while Sawyer listens silently. Sawyer doesn't say anything the first time because it takes place 21 days after Jack and Sayid tortured Sawyer. He must think that by not saying anything Jack will continue to suffer thinking that Christian died hating him. This is his revenge. Here he talks to him because they may never see each other again and Jack doesn't deserve a life of pain. A life of suffering, Sawyer knows that firsthand.
I remember people crying and moanin' about the ending to this show( including one GRRM). Over 12 years since Lost ended, 3 years after the GOT debacle I believe people really appreciate what great show this was.. Scenes like this in Lost are plenty to be found.
You simply can't choose which LOST scene is the BEST. There's just too many great scenes. This is one of my favorites. Then I watch another scene and I am like - this is my favorite. What a GREAT TV Show.
Such an incredible scene. Such an incredible show. Truly the best show ever made, and I have serious doubt that it'll be surpassed any time soon. Amazing. I watched most of this show with my ex like 2 years ago, and this makes me miss her so much. God damn, she was amazing, and I gave her every reason to leave me and made every possible mistake you could make. I hope she's happy wherever she is now. She deserves it more than anyone.
At first, Jack is speaking the persona that James invented, Sawyer, the outward face he created because he so thoroughly distrusted and lost faith in the world. In the end, Jack is speaking to James...someone he completely trusts to get Kate (and the rest) off the Island.
Sawyer also harbors his own guilt from childhood tragedy, making his "kids are like dogs" metaphor that much more impactful. I miss the writing on this show
I love how this is one of the few moments were Sawyer isn't calling someone by a nickname. He actually calls Jack, 'Jack' and not Doc or some other quip he has. He respected this moment by respecting Jack.
Mathew Fox and Josh Holloway nailed this scene. Damn I miss this show.
Hafsol65 dude fr me too me too
Damn straight!!
same
They really did
Not enough people talk about how good Matthew Fox is at facial acting. The guy does so much with his face!
Ur damn right
I say this all the time!! This scene and the one with Claire’s mom get me
Yeah more people should talk about it. I'll bring it up at the next meeting
Yep he needs his own show
Aaron Paul is also incredibly good at this
Best scene in the whole show
Ben admitting guilt and unburdening himself still tops it for me.
One of the best
Tbh there are a lot of good scenes i can't decide what's best
My personal favorite is Desmond and Penny talking in the constant, but this is one of the best!
Sawyer killing anthony kooper made me stay in shock. Love lost!
This is the kindest thing that Sawyer ever did for Jack. Jack so badly needed to hear this, he needed this catharsis, so he could stop blaming himself for his father's death. And Sawyer knew he might never get another chance to tell him. Such a great scene ❤
This is the kindest thing Sawyer ever did in his life
Top 5 best scene in the entire series
One of the best scenes.
So so many!
Think it's time for a rewatch
Sim!!!
THEEE BEST scene..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"something tells me he never got around to making that call" is the line that gets me
That call/conversation really happens in the finale. It's the moment that has been hovering, waiting for a landing spot and when it lands it's doozy.

Dude you start writing script already, you deciphered the whole scene... seriously, i loved it.
Only thing is that Christian really said that plus "he was grateful for what he did to me... For me"
Perfectly summed it up my man
best stuff i have read in a while
This scene is all about Sawyer and his process of opening his heart not only to others but to himself. His true self is good and kind. In his flashbacks we saw he took the easy way. 15 years later......just watched the scene again, and tears rolled down my face ❣
Has it been 15 years?! Oof. Where has the time gone?
Me here crying my eyes out looking at my phone. My girl wondering why. She doesn’t understand what we do.
This scene is amazing. Here from 2023
"See, kids are like dogs, you knock em around enough, they'll think they did something to deserve it." Gives me chills every. single. time. Impeccable acting.
Sawyer is probably the most loving person. he's so disturbed and broken but he still has live to give
Right he cares a lot about everyone but he just doesn’t show it

He was only an ass to isolate people away from him. He lost so much in life
When you left this show, it was like leaving a family behind. Something no other show has ever made me feel.
25 episodes a season. it was amazing.
This is so accurate 🥲
Dude finishing it was so good but so sad at the same time. Like never being able to watch it again with the same mystery, the same interest in a way. If only we could forget one thing in life, I'd forget lost to rewatch it

God damn
It makes me tear my eyes when Sawyer says his father name and he's almost crying even before he says it
Me too… So sad 😢

Fully agree.
Same 😊
I enjoyed it all
Hands down the greatest tv scene of all time.
Second to me. Buffy’s [redacted] dying DESTROYED me.
Absolutely incredible scene. This is why I love Lost!
This is the definitive scene I knew I would fall in love with the show. The subtle caring in the part of Sawyer to never just come right out and say I met your dad is such a beautiful nuance
Sawyer makes this emotional scene manly
Acting and character development in this show is unrivaled I've rewatched it like 4 times now
Agree
4x is that it????
@@anitelufalemei4200 me at 22 times 😏
Lost was so fucking magical. Something about it no other tv show has ever captured and I don’t think it ever will
Best scene in the series even better than the note scene
God i wish i could just wipe my mind of this show so i can rewatch it all and be fully mesmorized by how good of a show this was. It had its faults down the road but it definitely was by far one of the best shows to date ive seen.

This changed Jacks whole outlook on life after this.
Such great acting. Both actors played this brilliantly. Matthew was so on point with his reactions and emoting. Bravo!

Thought I would struggle to find this video on YT...... Someone felt this scene just like I did
Same here
"Small world, huh?"
A truer statement there is not
One of my favorite scenes of the entire show.
Great scene.. Phenomenal acting by both..
Way better than Game of Thrones.
This show has soul. GoT is just fanservice.
I was saying this to someone the other day. I did not fall in love with the characters on GoT like I did on the island. Lost is great because of the characters.
So unrelated. You fuckers just trying to get attention.

Perhaps, just maybe, the best scene and moment on the best tv show ever made
This scene was SO well done 😭
This was the moment when i knew, im gonna love this show
The best part was Sawyer gave just enough information that Jack would know he was telling the truth
Christian

The whole show was a master piece. But season 1 was a master piece within a master piece.
I always felt deep down that this was the best relationship between any 2 characters in the series, everything they said to each other was important
Amazing
Brilliant
This Show is something special

Best moment of the whole series
This simple quite acting was awesome

My fave scene of the show
One of the best scenes in the show! So many layers to it! Incredible character development.
Why they don't make shows like this anymore , i miss lost so bad 😢😢😢
This is why Lost is the best series ever!
Honestly one of the most powerful scenes ever filmed and it’s not even that weird or strange or crazy

One of the best scene
Man what an emotional scene a son finally got closure
Honestly one of the most beautiful moments I've seen in any film or show. Well written, and delivered.
i can't act worth shit but if i ever got cast in a movie and was needed to cry on cue, i'd just think of this scene and i'd do fine.
The BEST scene.
