Why has this man never been inducted to the R&R Hal of fame???...he is one of the 20th centuries greatest songwriters!!
It might be for the best. We all disappear with time, and just knowing we can enjoy it while it lasts is something special. No one will ever make me cry with love like Warren Zevon, and that’s beautiful

From incredible song writing to phenomenal musicianship, this 4 minutes has more musical depth then every season of American Idol put together. Sadly this is lost on 99% of the population.

Warren was a genius. He wrote from the heart, Some of his stuff kind of dark, but always intellectual and with humor. Immersed in classical music, Warren was gifted as a song writer, jingle writer, composer, singer, and artist. Probably the smartest rocker of all time. Dark humor, sarcasm, and all around great story telling. My favorite rock artist of all time.

When Zevon died I felt like I'd lost a friend. I remember following the early days of his career when I lived in LA. Yeah, I still miss Mr. Bad Example too.

This was definitely one of Warren's greatest songs. He was in Aspen when he wrote this tune. Warren made friends all over the world. From Hawaii to Spain, to Echo Park. One of the greatest story tellers ever to record.

Brilliant song. Warren could weave a beautiful ballad or a tongue-in-cheek ,humoresque ditty. He was truly a great artist., my favorite. Even over Neil Young or Don Henley, and they are great song writers. But Warren's classical background put him above the rest. RIP buddy!!

I love this song. And I love Warren Zevon, a fantastic singer, pianist and songwriter who never got his just desserts. Zevon's unique sense of humor, understated wisdom and courage in the face of a deadly illness truly inspired so many. Thankfully, his friends (especially Jackson Browne) recognized his uncanny ability to compose fantastic music, and oft times incorporated it into their concerts. David Letterman was a huge fan and made certain his music was heard. FUCK CANCER!
Warren had a beautiful touch on the piano. Not only a great songwriter, but a very "Professional Musician" as well. A genius who was truly unappreciated for his vast talent, and intellect.
It's amazing how so simple a tune can strike so many chords within your soul. WZ was truly one of the greats.

Warren was an unreplacable one-of-a-kind, a top notch writer, lyricist, and performer. One of rock's greatest.
This song haunts me everytime I hear it. Brilliant. Great tune. Great lyrics. No better story teller in rock than Warren. Probably too smart for the average like Don MacLean's "Vincent". Funny he wrote this song in Boulder after Halloween. He saw a guy dressed up with a lamp and a radio on his head, and came up with this brilliant song. We miss you Warren.
been feeling stressed and sorry for myself, then a little warren zevon and I kick my own ass and improve my perspective. what a greatly missed performer. saw him in boulder 94 or 95 one of the top 5 shows I've seen. they rotate around I've been really blessed to live where I did when I did, soooo many epic concerts.

NIce posts. W.Z. has and always will be a part of my persona, I'm a drunk, junkie womanizing ex-smoker (Now In Recovery), except for the ladies. Why I live and Warren dies is a roll of the dice. I miss him. I'm a better man for listening, watching and learning from the author of Mohammed's Radio.
I saw JB at the Mahalia Jackson in New Orleans last summer, and someone asked him to do a cover of Mohammed's Radio. He played through it, and it was the most earnest, heartfelt version of the song I've ever heard.
Loved this song since I first heard it in the late 70's. What a musician!
this is so beautifully done. so pure and simple. today's performers should take note.....talent at this level is so incredibly rare. one, the poet and the other raw everyday living. love them both and listen to them always.

This was recorded in 1976. Jackson Browne helped Warren get his album "Excitable Boy" get off the ground on Asylum records. Warren was always grateful to Jackson, but it was his talent that won popularity with the masses. Plus Warren like Gordon Lightfoot wrote tunes for other musicians to record.
Warren will never be forgotten!!! Zevon was a great musician and songwriter!!!

Thanks. Warren was not interested in "Commercialism'. He never compromised, or made excuses for his lyrics, or subject matter. Warren Zevon was "Unique", and there will never be another like him. Sardonic wit. Black serendipity. A great tongue-in-cheek, sense of humor, and a vaste intellect.
The writer "Stephen King" commented on Warren's brilliance, and the fact he could have been a novelist. Instead he chose rock, as his medium to write. What a legay he left behind.
A piece of history folks. I know there's more of this particular performance from OGWT somewhere... Brilliant. Love Lindley on the pedal steel...

The previous comment is right on. I have loved Jackson Browne's work since the 70s and have been fortunate enough to see him in concert several times. I am also a die-hard Zevon, but never saw him in concert. I knew the 2 men collaborated but had no idea of the depth. Brilliant. Thank you so much for this post.

Thanks for the honesty of your comment Coondog. I am an ex-drunk myself. I am sure I was up there with Warren in alcohol consumption. I once drank a fifth of Seagrams right out of the bottle in about 15 minutes. I had numerous black outs, fights, lost girlfriends, and lost friends. I found AA in 1984, and have been straight ever since. I can surely identifly with Warren's alocohol addiction. I even had DT's at 27. I should be dead. God bless you Warren. You were the best. Tragically human.

Timeless and still as actual as ever. Warren had som many gems and everlasting tunes and words.
Let's not sell Zevon short. Ask Don or Phil Everly, Jackson Browne, Don Henley, Waddy Wachtel, Glenn Frey, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan. All are great, and all recorded with Warren. They also loved his music. All these stars can't be wrong. Warren was truly a great song writer, composer, and musician. He will be missed.

Thank you for posting. It's always a pleasure to see and hear real talent... and to echo the sentiments of other posted comments, when the talent is real and not enhanced or boosted artificially it makes it even more awesome. Rock on Warren, you are truly kept forever in my heart.

Matter of fact, Warren might well have considered it a badge of honor NOT to be in the insipid R&R HOF, thanks to its irrelevance to acknowledging real talent and musical brilliance. RIP, Warren
I don't think any of Warren's fans sold him short. I think it was more the media. And after reading Warren's biography, I was under the impression as a young artist, Zevon was hard to work with. In his early days, he wanted everything "His way". This made him be passed from one manager to another, and one record label to another. As far as his talent, it was next to none.
@ztoneish Where I lived in the US midwest he got lots of airplay for Werewolves and Lawyers, Guns, and Money. That's about it. I listened to FM radio, which was rather rare back then, and to the underground, 'cool' stations. He didn't get any airtime except for those 2 songs. Covers by other artists of his songs were played.
@delly659 What killed me was in Warrens VH1 2004 makin' The Wind he and Jorge Calderon had probs with "Disorder in the House" Jorge goes tomorrow when we're fresh. Zevon goes, "Jorge I'm DYING. Aint NO "fresh in no morning!""

Had the pleasure of seein' Zevon and Jackson around 1979 at the old Mountain Aire show @ Frogtown Airport CA. "Werewolves" was hot then. And Les Dudek kicked it all off with CENTRAL PARK.. Ain't nothin better !!

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were roommates with Warren when they all lived in Waddy's apartment in the early 70s when Nicks and Buckingham first arrived in LA from SF. Stevie sang backup on the album recording track. This man is definitely the rock n' roller's rock n' roller.

Its a bit wonderful - he's come all the way to BBC centre London to support his friend.
English is my second language, so I sometimes have trouble getting the meanings of Warren's lyrics. But, for me at least, he's one of the very few artists (another one would be Billy Joel for me) that is able to paint an emotional picture with his words and lyrics. I get him, even if I don't get him. He just touches me on a very ... spiritual, emotional level. I would so have loved to hear him play live at least once, but I only discovered him after his death. I miss him, though.
