DUDE THIS IS A LIFESAVER! I recently just got my first ever pair of quality headphones and been trying to figure out how to make xbox one game chat work. I saw 2 other setups but this is easily the simplest method since the other ones had a bunch of cables, adaptors, and y splitters. I was also thinking of setting up discord audio coming from a phone so that if lets say you want to talk on discord vs xbox party chat, so you can talk to friends who arent on xbox one. My theoretical method directly below, btw im still new to all this stuff Probably need to use the headphone/mic y splitter from the phone going to mic and headphones OR just connect the phone to the normal y splitter i mention next and just use the phones mic if possible, then a normal y splitter from headphones cable going to amp and headphone/mic y splitter(or going to phone if using phone mic). You should have xbox game chat available if you do the phone mic method, just mute your mic on xbox or use the controller headset adapter mute button whenever you dont want to talk to in game players, phone mic is there as usual to talk to friends and can mute yourself on discord to talk to in game players... If its wireless headphones then you can just connect to the phone via bluetooth, still use cables from headphones going to amp, connect mic to phone, BUT you wont be able to talk to xbox in game players. I will post an update comment on the xbox one setup saying if it worked or not, as well as the discord setup i mentioned if do try it. My Sound Blaster G6 is still shipping so it might be a week or 2 when i post an update. I really wanted to get the Schiit Hel 2 instead but its sold out everywhere and i couldnt find it again less than $150 on ebay(that was my amp/dac budget).
OKAY! Just saw your Astro mixamp ps4/xbox/discord video which is pretty much what i wanted for discord to work too. I forgot the Sound Blaster supports the PC via usb 🤦♂️, i thought the usb was only for powering the amp. So for the phone method you just need the usb cable from amp going to a usb hub which then goes to your phones audio jack and a power outlet since i assume the phone wont be able to power the amp enough. Again this is theoretical
Great explanation on how you set it up, thanks for that! I just... I just find the whole thing super complicated JUST for the sake of using premium headphones and/or higher audio quality out of the consoles, since its wired. I mean, you made it work, you seem happy with your stuff and that great and what matters, but man, that's A LOT of cables to manage. Personally, for consoles, I just use my SteelSeries 7x which work across PS5, SX, Switch, Android, PC, you name it! For my PC however, I use the HEL-2 paired with my DT 990 PRO's. Cable management is so simple on PC since you are so close to it. The 7x's might not sound near as good as the 990's but hey, they are 100% plug-n-play wireless and sound just a notch lower that high-end headphones, at least while gaming, music listening, well that is a completely different story with high-end's. 😁
I just set mine up yesterday (LG C1, Series X, Shiut Hel 2 e. connected to sound bar with optical cables just like in this video) no noticeable latency. I'm very happy with it
I had a somewhat similar setup with my PS5 using the TV's optical passthrough the Soundblaster G6 but I had a very noticeable sound delay. (the TV is a Sony X950G) I had also the same issue with an older Harman Kardon amplifier (which does excellent Dolby Headphone surround). THe only way to resolve that was to output the PS4 with DTS instead of Dolby, but that wasn't supported with the G6 so I eventually sold it. The headphones are BeyerDynamics DT770.
Yeah, I'm always nervous about recommending optical out to people. TV sets, especially the Black Friday specials, seem to induce significant delay on the optical out. That's why I always prefer going from the device directly to the DAC. In this case, I'm going all over the place, but I'm still getting solid audio. It really depends. The DT770 is a great set, and so is the G6 -- sorry it didn't work out.

My question is, with a LG CX 65", do you know if there would be audio delay from the optical out (for the series X). Thank you.

This looks great and if I had a headset I wanted to keep I would do something like this but if the set up is a bit expensive for you get an Steel Series Arctis 7X it works wirelessly with PS4 and 5 plus X box series X & S & Switch, I don't have an X box so The Arctis 7P works for me plus with any USB-C phone, PC, Macbook or Chromebook too. Thanks for the info about your setup for the people that have a hard time working this stuff out.
@@vypermajik i actually just exchanged my arctis 7P for the Arctis Pro Wireless and they are pretty nice. Plugged with optical through an Astro adapter. No audio delay.
@@fbanget Yeah I love using the toslink optical, I still use it on the Astro mix amp for my PS4. The reason I didn't want to use an optical for the PS5 is because without when converting th HDMI signal to optical you loose 4K capability. I using the optical out from my TV but there was a touch of lag. If I want the best sound I'd probably just use one of my old worn in Sennheiser or Audio Tecnica that I've had forever.
What do you mean the xbox doesn't play well with the DAC? If i connect my IEM and microphone into the schiit fulla and run the usb to the xbox, will it not work well?

This is an amazing setup bro! how do u manage to connect the HEL to the xbox series x? I have the Fulla 4 and for the life of me I cannot seem to connect the audio to the dac
I know it's late but I think he connected his TV to the HEL. So essentially, HDMI goes from Xbox to TV, Optical cable from tv to hub (or directly to HEL if you've only got one console), from hub to HEL. Then he sets the Xbox to play sound through both headset (his mic) as well as speakers (his tv, which in turn plays the sound through the amp) and that's basically it. It's essentially tricking the Xbox to think that your headphones are your TV speakers. The headphones would not plug directly into controller, only the mic would.
Great content. What type of usb a cable did you use to connect through the back port of PS5 to Hel2. I bought a USB A TO USB C highspeed data cable and it doesn't recognize my Hel2 unless I connect through the front USB port of PS5. I hate it because I can't manage the wire to make it look nice or neat. Thank you in advance.
Thanks Scott. Sounds like a weird cable issue. Check out the link below that shows the difference in speeds on front and back of PS5. To answer though, nothing fancy. Just cheap Amazon cables. I did have to buy a Belkin USB hub - a powered one - because the signal for me kept cutting out. So that may be your issue too. Yo can do basically the same with creative g3. Clearly it doesn't have the output power of the schiit but enough to drive medium impedance headphones. Usb to the ps5 or Nintendo switch, optical to the tv and when using xbox unplug the optical and plug the a trrs cable from the xbox controller. Using a pc38x it have more than enough power to drive it to more than conftable volumes.

ok i have the hel 2 plus and astro mix amp and i have the audeze lcd gx and the hd800s '' the astro mix amp sounds way better then the hel 2 + the astro mix amp has more clear sound better detail and crispy smooth punchy base the hel 2 sound ok but not as good as the astro mix amp with the mix amp put it in optical port from your tv to the amp then usb to the ps5 and go to sound and put output device on hdmi device tv and put the light on the top of the mix amp to the right and make sure u put the preset button to the last one going down and they will sound amazing way better then the hel 2 ''
Hello! I am super jealous of your HD800s - that’s what I would LOVE to get at some point. Considering those run about $800 to $1,000 more than mine I sure hope they do sound way better. The Astro Mix Amp is optimally designed for 32 ohm impedance headphones. Since yours are 300 ohms, the current setup you have means you aren’t driving the phones with enough power. Sure, you will hear sound, but that’s the whole point of moving to a Hel (or another solution) with a higher drive.
@@vypermajik I just use the hell 2 last night. I spent more time playing call of duty with it with my audeze lcd GX. They sound different but I do really like them alot now however they don’t sound great with music or movies and they do not sound good with hd800s the hd800s sound better with the Astro mix amp !

Strange. So I just got the same Belkin Hub in the mail today. It works perfectly fine, when i either connect the Jumper cable + USB 2.0 cable to either my Switch or PS5. BUT, i can't get any audio when plugging a USB 2.0 cable running from my Switch or PS5 into one of the 4 USB Belkin Ports....Audio only works with the Jumper cable/plug connection. Am i doing something wrong? I assumed i could just plug the Belkin power cord into the wall, and then use any of the 4 USB ports for my Switch & PS5. To have them hooked up simultaneously, and for the Belkin to automatically detect which console was on. Only my DAC works with one of the 4 USB ports.
so iv been trying to use this hel 2e on ps5/pc and it was fine at first but now on ps5 the audio out has loud static that bleeds the ears of the people im in the party with. not sure if any one is having similar issues but iv tired changing setting around and cant seem to find the fix. also now discord cant even pic up the mic when using it
I’m looking at running this setup minus a couple of things since it’s only for my Xbox series x. Hdmi-tv-optical out-hel 2-headphones with the mic into controller (like yours). Would this setup even work and would I have access to chat mix between party chat and gameplay? I have turtle beach 700 gen 2 and they are garbage. I cannot stand them. I’m willing to get hi end headphones and all the stuff with it. Just need to know before I go out and get all of this. This made me realize - how did i not know that? 🤦 - that HDMI actually carries _digital_ audio. Which probably means that the TV simply retransmits the digital audio stream it gets from the console via HDMI to its (the TV's) Optical Out. So the HEL gets the original digital signal from the console. Nice.
Hey just wanted to ask I use a monitor for my Xbox, would a hdmi to optical audio extractor work to connect to a dac for the Xbox audio. Also would it work for a regular headset connecting it to the dac?
So i stumbled across your video due to extensive research on how to maximize audio profiling through a corsair virtuoso rgb xt. This will be used on a ps5. My question for you is, if my headset is wireless and the mic is of great quality, can this DAC be used strictly for audio and still used wirelessly? Would i need to be connected still and could i still continue to use my headset default mic without being plugged in? This headset comes with a wireless usb dongle for connectivity.
Is there anyway where I dont have to plug it into the controller for xbox one x? I was going to get a Schiit Fulla E Headphone DAC/Amp, but I do not want it to plug into the controller. I have a scuff and that wire interferes when playing, I dont like the feel of it. Any suggestions?
I just want to let you know at least for Xbox one/Xbox series x since your using optical your not actually getting Dolby atmos for headphones or soundbar because it sadly only works through hdmi or your Xbox one controller. So if your using a dac/amp with the optical cable the Dolby atmos isn’t actually on. I figured it out because I have similar set up with a schiit Asgard 3 and Schiit midi 3+ dac amp with lcd x and sennhiser 58x jubilee, akg k702. I was extremely disappointed when I found this out. It works fine when using my reciever and 5.2.2 speakers for Dolby atmos through hdmi but when I use the headphones the Dolby atmos only works if I plug them in with the controller. My akg 702s, sennhiser, and my beyerdynamics that I have are all have to many ohms snd don’t sound as good as they do if I use my dac amp. I honestly thought using the optical and dac/amp sounds way better than using the controller just to have the Dolby atmos effect, since it’s only stereo headphones anyway. I did some back and forth and through the optical snd amp Stuff still sounds like it’s above head at times. I feel the atmos through the controller makes it a little more open but it’s not worth missing out on the amp and dac. Just wanted to let you know because I just found this out myself. Your set up is perfect though and it’s great advice. I wish Xbox would make it simple and let the dac amp run through a usb cable. Really annoying
Hi J H - Thanks for the comment. I had messed around with Dolby Atmos before this setup and personally did not like it as much as I thought I would. For this set-up I have the Series X set to stereo uncompressed since I want the Hel-2 to do the heavy lifting and didn’t want to mess with the sound profile. That said I was totally unaware of the limitation of Dolby on Xbox. It sounds a lot like when 3D audio came out for the PS5: it was limited to the DualSense only. I’ll have to do some more experimentation but do appreciate the comment. And your set-up sounds epic too! 👍
@@vypermajik ya it sucks that they limit it to the controller or speakers. But I really don’t think it does much anyway with stereo headphones. To me stereo headphones already sounds pretty good with surround sound and sound like things are coming from above at times anyway.
Wouldn't it work if you connect the Xbox directly to the TV via HDMI, then connect TV to DAC through optical. Then set Xbox to output Atmos through HDMI connection, set TV to output audio through optical.
@@Mariscos420 that is how mine is set up and unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Atleast with the real Dolby atmos like for surround sound. With the Dolby atmos headphones I don’t think it will work either because it is the Xbox itself that does the atmos for headphones, Dolby atmos for headphones is still just stereo but they toy with the sound through an app on the Xbox and pc itself. So once the Xbox passes sound from the Xbox to the tv, the tv does have the atmos headphone app to make the sound work if you were direct running from usb or optical from Xbox directly to the headphone amp. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure that how it works from what I’ve looked into. But personally using some nice wired headphones with an dac and amp is going to sound just as good or better running stereo instead of the Dolby atmos headphone eq setting anyway. But if you look into it and can find that it does work that way I’m definitely curious to know so let me know if I’m wrong.

Does that Self powered USB HUB just recognize whatever console is being turned on, or do you have to press a button on the HUB itself or even with a remote to toggle between devices. The HUB i currently have has to be set to 1 of the 4 ports by the touch of a button or remote, and i'm looking for something simpler and easier to make things more convenient for my Switch & PS5. The Bekin "just works" - no external configuration required. I believe it captures the last device used. So if you had your PS5 on, then turned on the Xbox, it would swap. I normally power down all consoles when not in use, so don't quote me on that... but def no external inputs required.
I play on my Xbox series x and I have Astros A50s for many years i need to part away I have so much firmware issues tech support never helps and I’ve trouble shoot for so many hours. I used to work for ADT so I’m very tec friendly. I play on monitor and would love to get the DT990 headset. From what I’m getting here. I’m shit out of luck because I don’t have a optical cord 😢

I would just get a hdmi splitter connect Xbox to the splitter then run a hdmi to tv from out of splitter Then run a fiber optical from out splitter to hel-shiit-2 and then just adjust my audio in my setting on Xbox to speaker / head phones. I watch a lot of videos. And just try to think like if I was working with an alarm system lol. Very helpful video by the way thank you!!

Hello from USA! Yes, microphone works as follows: Microphone for Xbox - plugs directly into bottom of Xbox controller. Microphone for PS5 - plus into Schiit Hel-2. I just swap the microphone between the two as necessary. 😎

Would there be a noticeable difference in the microphone audio quality from using a headset mic (Sennheiser PC38X) through the dual sense controller and using the same headset through the Hel 2? Or would you only notice an improvement with a dedicated mic? I like the convenience of an all in one headset and I'm interested in getting this for the audio improvements alone but just wondering if you think there would also be any microphone improvements?
I don’t think so. Although in my experience the headset microphones usually aren’t great quality. I think the lav microphone is a nice setup except it doesn’t have the natural directional screening than the headsets do (it picks up sound from the entire room). In my experience on the DualSense controller, plugging in anything into the controller (headphone or microphone) stops audio transmission via USB or HDMI, so make sure your setup doesn’t “short out” sound from another source. My main goal is to just enhance the sound of my PC37Xs with a dac/amp besides just plugging it into a controller. Hello, The Hel-2 is a DAC/Amp in one. So that’s the only box you need. That connects to your TV via optical. Then you need headphones and a mic to connect to the box. Then tada!
I think the 660s take half the power to drive right, I ordered them with a thx onyx dac amp dongle, which has a type c out.... the elite controller I use has a type c, also a 3.5 mm.... my question is do you think either option would work? Also if i just plug the headphones straight in 3.5 with no dongle what would they sound like? Lol
So the USB on the elite is just for charging, unless I mis-understood your question. I can say if you plug headphones into the elite, you’re only getting a small driving signal. Your headphones should work but they won’t be loud or drive well enough. That’s the problem with high end headphones - they need big amps to drive them.
The ONYX DAC Amp dongle is really best for on the go listening like boosting your phone’s audio and ensuring you get a great lossless signal. If you want an AMP that enables the best out of your heavy duty Sennheiser’s if you go the 3.5mm route then you want thr Helm DB12 AAAMP THX I use them with Everything and they amplify the sound and boss the bass without distortion. They are amazing when paired with the Hel 2 as well. Note: my stack is Hel2, Woojer Vest Edge, out to DB12 then to HD6xx’s.
The mic-input on the Hel 2 only works through USB connection. You won't be able to send mic audio through optical, which is why he uses the controller for the SeXbox. If you use optical for PS5 audio, it's even worse, because you aren't able to connect just a microphone to the controller.

Firstly, your problem is you are using a USB mic on the Xbox, and Xbox doesn't accept USB mics. There is however a workaround on how to use USB mics on Xbox, if interested check this video: watch?v=wrTVli0o-DM Secondly after you have the correct setup shown in that vid, you can easily go into any DAC or Amp of your choice without any issue. You have the choice of getting the audio from the controller or from your TV (method shown in this vid).
I didn't think they supported the right UAC standard, which is why I went with the Hel-2. Their development blog seems to indicate that the Hel-2 was specifically designed for this reason. So I'm guessing no, but not 100% certain.

That's a good question. Since the Xbox Series X dropped optical, I don't know how you'd directly connect it. That's the problem, IMO, with all amps right now directly to Series X (or even PS5). You would need to buy the HDMI to Optical converter to make it work. Astro sells one, but it shaves off so much video quality it wouldn't be worth it. Maybe you could try to wire this into the bottom of the controller, but again, I feel like you'd be starting with such a weak signal that amplifying it may not be worthwhile.

OKAY! Just saw your Astro mixamp ps4/xbox/discord video which is pretty much what i wanted for discord to work too. I forgot the Sound Blaster supports the PC via usb 🤦♂️, i thought the usb was only for powering the amp.
So for the phone method you just need the usb cable from amp going to a usb hub which then goes to your phones audio jack and a power outlet since i assume the phone wont be able to power the amp enough. Again this is theoretical

Great explanation on how you set it up, thanks for that! I just... I just find the whole thing super complicated JUST for the sake of using premium headphones and/or higher audio quality out of the consoles, since its wired. I mean, you made it work, you seem happy with your stuff and that great and what matters, but man, that's A LOT of cables to manage. Personally, for consoles, I just use my SteelSeries 7x which work across PS5, SX, Switch, Android, PC, you name it! For my PC however, I use the HEL-2 paired with my DT 990 PRO's. Cable management is so simple on PC since you are so close to it. The 7x's might not sound near as good as the 990's but hey, they are 100% plug-n-play wireless and sound just a notch lower that high-end headphones, at least while gaming, music listening, well that is a completely different story with high-end's. 😁

I had a somewhat similar setup with my PS5 using the TV's optical passthrough the Soundblaster G6 but I had a very noticeable sound delay. (the TV is a Sony X950G) I had also the same issue with an older Harman Kardon amplifier (which does excellent Dolby Headphone surround). THe only way to resolve that was to output the PS4 with DTS instead of Dolby, but that wasn't supported with the G6 so I eventually sold it. The headphones are BeyerDynamics DT770.
Yeah, I'm always nervous about recommending optical out to people. TV sets, especially the Black Friday specials, seem to induce significant delay on the optical out. That's why I always prefer going from the device directly to the DAC. In this case, I'm going all over the place, but I'm still getting solid audio. It really depends. The DT770 is a great set, and so is the G6 -- sorry it didn't work out.

This looks great and if I had a headset I wanted to keep I would do something like this but if the set up is a bit expensive for you get an Steel Series Arctis 7X it works wirelessly with PS4 and 5 plus X box series X & S & Switch, I don't have an X box so The Arctis 7P works for me plus with any USB-C phone, PC, Macbook or Chromebook too. Thanks for the info about your setup for the people that have a hard time working this stuff out.

@@vypermajik i actually just exchanged my arctis 7P for the Arctis Pro Wireless and they are pretty nice. Plugged with optical through an Astro adapter. No audio delay.
@@fbanget Yeah I love using the toslink optical, I still use it on the Astro mix amp for my PS4. The reason I didn't want to use an optical for the PS5 is because without when converting th HDMI signal to optical you loose 4K capability. I using the optical out from my TV but there was a touch of lag. If I want the best sound I'd probably just use one of my old worn in Sennheiser or Audio Tecnica that I've had forever.

This is an amazing setup bro! how do u manage to connect the HEL to the xbox series x? I have the Fulla 4 and for the life of me I cannot seem to connect the audio to the dac
I know it's late but I think he connected his TV to the HEL. So essentially, HDMI goes from Xbox to TV, Optical cable from tv to hub (or directly to HEL if you've only got one console), from hub to HEL. Then he sets the Xbox to play sound through both headset (his mic) as well as speakers (his tv, which in turn plays the sound through the amp) and that's basically it.
It's essentially tricking the Xbox to think that your headphones are your TV speakers. The headphones would not plug directly into controller, only the mic would.
Are you getting true dobly atoms and true 3d audio in the headphones this way.
Great content. What type of usb a cable did you use to connect through the back port of PS5 to Hel2. I bought a USB A TO USB C highspeed data cable and it doesn't recognize my Hel2 unless I connect through the front USB port of PS5. I hate it because I can't manage the wire to make it look nice or neat. Thank you in advance.

To answer though, nothing fancy. Just cheap Amazon cables. I did have to buy a Belkin USB hub - a powered one - because the signal for me kept cutting out. So that may be your issue too. You may need to find an outlet in the way and reboot the signal.

Yo can do basically the same with creative g3. Clearly it doesn't have the output power of the schiit but enough to drive medium impedance headphones. Usb to the ps5 or Nintendo switch, optical to the tv and when using xbox unplug the optical and plug the a trrs cable from the xbox controller. Using a pc38x it have more than enough power to drive it to more than conftable volumes.

It has an adapter for either connection but please note the Hel-2 doesn’t support TRRS.

Hello! I am super jealous of your HD800s - that’s what I would LOVE to get at some point. Considering those run about $800 to $1,000 more than mine I sure hope they do sound way better. The Astro Mix Amp is optimally designed for 32 ohm impedance headphones. Since yours are 300 ohms, the current setup you have means you aren’t driving the phones with enough power. Sure, you will hear sound, but that’s the whole point of moving to a Hel (or another solution) with a higher drive.

They sound different but I do really like them alot now however they don’t sound great with music or movies and they do not sound good with hd800s the hd800s sound better with the Astro mix amp !

Strange. So I just got the same Belkin Hub in the mail today. It works perfectly fine, when i either connect the Jumper cable + USB 2.0 cable to either my Switch or PS5. BUT, i can't get any audio when plugging a USB 2.0 cable running from my Switch or PS5 into one of the 4 USB Belkin Ports....Audio only works with the Jumper cable/plug connection. Am i doing something wrong?
I assumed i could just plug the Belkin power cord into the wall, and then use any of the 4 USB ports for my Switch & PS5. To have them hooked up simultaneously, and for the Belkin to automatically detect which console was on. Only my DAC works with one of the 4 USB ports.
so iv been trying to use this hel 2e on ps5/pc and it was fine at first but now on ps5 the audio out has loud static that bleeds the ears of the people im in the party with. not sure if any one is having similar issues but iv tired changing setting around and cant seem to find the fix. also now discord cant even pic up the mic when using it
I’m looking at running this setup minus a couple of things since it’s only for my Xbox series x. Hdmi-tv-optical out-hel 2-headphones with the mic into controller (like yours). Would this setup even work and would I have access to chat mix between party chat and gameplay? I have turtle beach 700 gen 2 and they are garbage. I cannot stand them. I’m willing to get hi end headphones and all the stuff with it. Just need to know before I go out and get all of this. This made me realize - how did i not know that? 🤦 - that HDMI actually carries _digital_ audio. Which probably means that the TV simply retransmits the digital audio stream it gets from the console via HDMI to its (the TV's) Optical Out. So the HEL gets the original digital signal from the console. Nice.

You’re not going to get Dolby Atmos over optical digital output, unfortunately. And there will be lag induced by the TV. It’s not zero.

I just want to let you know at least for Xbox one/Xbox series x since your using optical your not actually getting Dolby atmos for headphones or soundbar because it sadly only works through hdmi or your Xbox one controller. So if your using a dac/amp with the optical cable the Dolby atmos isn’t actually on. I figured it out because I have similar set up with a schiit Asgard 3 and Schiit midi 3+ dac amp with lcd x and sennhiser 58x jubilee, akg k702. I was extremely disappointed when I found this out. It works fine when using my reciever and 5.2.2 speakers for Dolby atmos through hdmi but when I use the headphones the Dolby atmos only works if I plug them in with the controller. My akg 702s, sennhiser, and my beyerdynamics that I have are all have to many ohms snd don’t sound as good as they do if I use my dac amp. I honestly thought using the optical and dac/amp sounds way better than using the controller just to have the Dolby atmos effect, since it’s only stereo headphones anyway. I did some back and forth and through the optical snd amp Stuff still sounds like it’s above head at times. I feel the atmos through the controller makes it a little more open but it’s not worth missing out on the amp and dac. Just wanted to let you know because I just found this out myself. Your set up is perfect though and it’s great advice. I wish Xbox would make it simple and let the dac amp run through a usb cable. Really annoying

Thanks for the comment. I had messed around with Dolby Atmos before this setup and personally did not like it as much as I thought I would. For this set-up I have the Series X set to stereo uncompressed since I want the Hel-2 to do the heavy lifting and didn’t want to mess with the sound profile.
That said I was totally unaware of the limitation of Dolby on Xbox. It sounds a lot like when 3D audio came out for the PS5: it was limited to the DualSense only.
I’ll have to do some more experimentation but do appreciate the comment. And your set-up sounds epic too! 👍

Wouldn't it work if you connect the Xbox directly to the TV via HDMI, then connect TV to DAC through optical. Then set Xbox to output Atmos through HDMI connection, set TV to output audio through optical.
@@Mariscos420 that is how mine is set up and unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Atleast with the real Dolby atmos like for surround sound. With the Dolby atmos headphones I don’t think it will work either because it is the Xbox itself that does the atmos for headphones, Dolby atmos for headphones is still just stereo but they toy with the sound through an app on the Xbox and pc itself. So once the Xbox passes sound from the Xbox to the tv, the tv does have the atmos headphone app to make the sound work if you were direct running from usb or optical from Xbox directly to the headphone amp. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure that how it works from what I’ve looked into. But personally using some nice wired headphones with an dac and amp is going to sound just as good or better running stereo instead of the Dolby atmos headphone eq setting anyway. But if you look into it and can find that it does work that way I’m definitely curious to know so let me know if I’m wrong.

Does that Self powered USB HUB just recognize whatever console is being turned on, or do you have to press a button on the HUB itself or even with a remote to toggle between devices. The Bekin "just works" - no external configuration required. I believe it captures the last device used. So if you had your PS5 on, then turned on the Xbox, it would swap. I normally power down all consoles when not in use, so don't quote me on that... but def no external inputs required.
I play on my Xbox series x and I have Astros A50s for many years i need to part away I have so much firmware issues tech support never helps and I’ve trouble shoot for so many hours. I would just get a hdmi splitter connect Xbox to the splitter then run a hdmi to tv from out of splitter Then run a fiber optical from out splitter to hel-shiit-2 and then just adjust my audio in my setting on Xbox to speaker / head phones. Yes, microphone works as follows:
Microphone for Xbox - plugs directly into bottom of Xbox controller.
Microphone for PS5 - plus into Schiit Hel-2.
I just swap the microphone between the two as necessary.

Would there be a noticeable difference in the microphone audio quality from using a headset mic (Sennheiser PC38X) through the dual sense controller and using the same headset through the Hel 2? Or would you only notice an improvement with a dedicated mic? I like the convenience of an all in one headset and I'm interested in getting this for the audio improvements alone but just wondering if you think there would also be any microphone improvements?
I don’t think so. Although in my experience the headset microphones usually aren’t great quality. I think the lav microphone is a nice setup except it doesn’t have the natural directional screening than the headsets do (it picks up sound from the entire room).
In my experience on the DualSense controller, plugging in anything into the controller (headphone or microphone) stops audio transmission via USB or HDMI, so make sure your setup doesn’t “short out” sound from another source.

The Hel-2 is a DAC/Amp in one. So that’s the only box you need. That connects to your TV via optical. Then you need headphones and a mic to connect to the box. Then tada!
I think the 660s take half the power to drive right, I ordered them with a thx onyx dac amp dongle, which has a type c out.... the elite controller I use has a type c, also a 3.5 mm.... my question is do you think either option would work? Also if i just plug the headphones straight in 3.5 with no dongle what would they sound like? Lol
So the USB on the elite is just for charging, unless I mis-understood your question.
I can say if you plug headphones into the elite, you’re only getting a small driving signal. Your headphones should work but they won’t be loud or drive well enough. That’s the problem with high end headphones - they need big amps to drive them.
The ONYX DAC Amp dongle is really best for on the go listening like boosting your phone’s audio and ensuring you get a great lossless signal. If you want an AMP that enables the best out of your heavy duty Sennheiser’s if you go the 3.5mm route then you want thr Helm DB12 AAAMP THX I use them with Everything and they amplify the sound and boss the bass without distortion. They are amazing when paired with the Hel 2 as well. Note: my stack is Hel2, Woojer Vest Edge, out to DB12 then to HD6xx’s.

The mic-input on the Hel 2 only works through USB connection. You won't be able to send mic audio through optical, which is why he uses the controller for the SeXbox. If you use optical for PS5 audio, it's even worse, because you aren't able to connect just a microphone to the controller.

Firstly, your problem is you are using a USB mic on the Xbox, and Xbox doesn't accept USB mics. There is however a workaround on how to use USB mics on Xbox, if interested check this video: watch?v=wrTVli0o-DM
Secondly after you have the correct setup shown in that vid, you can easily go into any DAC or Amp of your choice without any issue. You have the choice of getting the audio from the controller or from your TV (method shown in this vid).
Yoo will the modi/ magni stack work on the ps5?
I didn't think they supported the right UAC standard, which is why I went with the Hel-2. Their development blog seems to indicate that the Hel-2 was specifically designed for this reason. So I'm guessing no, but not 100% certain.

how would you connect an Xbox series x with a monitor and DAC? I don't have a hdtv like in your setup.
That's a good question. Since the Xbox Series X dropped optical, I don't know how you'd directly connect it. That's the problem, IMO, with all amps right now directly to Series X (or even PS5). You would need to buy the HDMI to Optical converter to make it work. Astro sells one, but it shaves off so much video quality it wouldn't be worth it. Maybe you could try to wire this into the bottom of the controller, but again, I feel like you'd be starting with such a weak signal that amplifying it may not be worthwhile.
