I remember using MHL on my Nexus 5 and it was pretty alright, but things got messy when you tried to change resolutions. Not only that, but you needed to have a powerful enough 5V source to prevent your battery from depleting while plugged in.

It's not just about the physical port, either - the USB controller circuitry is also more expensive for true USB-C.
The whole "USB-C 2.0 can't support video out is because it's not 3" is BS. I remember a time when many micro USB 2. phones supported video out through MHL. And MHL Alt Mode for USB Type-C does supoort USB2.0. Companies just refuse to put it so if you want that feature you have to buy their flagships. Kinda like how Samsung won't put DeX mode on their lower end Galaxy S Tabs like the 6 Lite or 5e. Even though we know they do have the power to run on DeX. Might not be able to multi task as well as the high end. But the layout change alone would help. Many Android apps aren't really good for tablets, so running it on a window inside might be better. These were around for micro SD years ago. I have one that I used with my Galaxy Note. II. It is much less complicated. It is basically a multi-function hub with HDMI, micro SD & full SD card slots, a full size USB port and a micro USB port for charging. It didn't need any apps. You just attached it to an HDMI port but I don't think that it worked with all Android phones. It needed a protocol that only the higher end phones like Samsung had. I used it at home and took it to friend's houses to watch movies. That was long before smart TVs, Chromecast and before Android boxes were cheap and easy to get. It's stupid that manufacturers don't include HDMI-out by default in all Android devices, but this device certainly seems like a viable option. One thing, though: does this work with Netflix or other streaming apps that rely on DRM?
The amazon listing says that it does not support Netflix, Amazon Video, Direct TV, hulu, and "...." implying that no, it does not work with Netflix or other apps that rely on DRM. I didn't even know this was an issue until I looked at the listing.
The company behind this tech are EzCast. They have a channel here with a number of related products. They seem to have started doing dongles which stream over WiFi to hdmi so I guess they took all that software r&d and bundle it up in a form factor that pushes data over usb instead of WiFi.
@@ETAPRIME Would that "2-in-1 USB Type C/Micro USB to HDMI Cable adapter" basically be able to provide a Raspberry Pi 4 with a display when it's connected to an Android smartphone? Or I'm way off of what that product was meant for?

What kills me, is a phone company not putting usb c to hdmi in a lower end phone, just because it is a selling point of a higher end phone. Really goes to show that there isn't much changing , just different configurations for different applications
I couldn't tell if the audio is too much behind the video though... the video wasn't loud enough for me to tell if the Bluetooth connectivity matches the screen or not, in my case BT is typically half a second behind when playing games

I spent so much time just because I wanted to see my phone on my TV. I didn't look at the basics do you realize it wouldn't work anyway. I'm trusting you on this one. If it doesn't work remember, I know where you live 🤨🧐🤔
Netflix would work if the device has Widevine L3 instead of L1. But it would be limited to SD Quality. For Netflix HD Widevine L1 is a must have and that's were get a black screen because of DRM protection (L1). unless the whole thing can do proper HDCP over HDMI. I was wondering about the same thing. So i asked ETA Prime 2 questions here in the comment section. Let's see if he will read it and also has the time to check if any of those devices (that he tested) has Widevine L1 🤓
Mmmm. I have read a review at Amazon of the "optional" and it looks that it doesn't work. It had attached one picture where you see that the film was being played at the phone, but no film was on the TV screen. I guess that the DRM has a mechanism to prevent this.
@@JiSiN3000 No mate this devise works by screen recording and sending the live feed compressed over USB, so Netflix and other streaming services detect the screen recording and disable it on software level, it's not the L1 L3 or L420 level it's the way that this device works, I have displaylink adapter which works the same way but for using your phone as Gamecube, Wii, PSP, PS2 or N64 to a TV from your phone is a good option
I'm actually getting quite awesome performance while casting from my PC to a TV screen. The lag being within 10-20 ms or less judging by my gaming feel - which is barely noticeable. It is important that one of the devices is connected via cable. Then depending on the distance to the router your minimal one way lag is 2-4ms and two way will be double that. Cable is pretty fast so you will also get the awesome experience. Also the TV monitor hardware is important. If you are pushing higher resolution the CPU needs to be stronger.

@@CollinWootan well DRM supported content isn't also supported by miracast, screen mirror on any device that's just the way its built.
@@fhinpus wait really? I never had this issue.
The company behind this tech are EzCast. They have a channel here with a number of related products. They seem to have started doing dongles which stream over WiFi to hdmi so I guess they took all that software r&d and bundle it up in a form factor that pushes data over usb instead of WiFi.
Hey, eta, do you think you'll do any pico projects soon?
Yes I’m waiting on my adapter boards to come in, they are shipping from the UK and it’s taking forever
@@ETAPRIME postage from uk amazon is gone very bad to Ireland too its Brexit shit usually 2 to 3 days now up to 2 weeks
@@ETAPRIME Cool, I can't wait to see what you'll do with them
@@pepe9735 it's usb and wired😐😐
@@ETAPRIME Would that "2-in-1 USB Type C/Micro USB to HDMI Cable adapter" basically be able to provide a Raspberry Pi 4 with a display when it's connected to an Android smartphone? Or I'm way off of what that product was meant for?
That main issue is this uses micro usb for backwards compatibility but that's only USB 2.0 bandwidth. That would explain why the quality isn't as good. Can u maybe do a comparison with a native USB C 3.0 version and see if it's any better quality?
What kills me, is a phone company not putting usb c to hdmi in a lower end phone, just because it is a selling point of a higher end phone. Really goes to show that there isn't much changing , just different configurations for different applications
Hey the phones may have MHL support...
Try this device on non MHL supporting phones...
I finally got one, I was surprised and amazed. Thank you for the video.
Hi. What is the name of this adapter. I trying to find on allexpres store
As soon as i read that description, I clicked that link an bought it before I finished watching. NEEDED
same here :)
Does it work without MHL?
I couldn't tell if the audio is too much behind the video though... the video wasn't loud enough for me to tell if the Bluetooth connectivity matches the screen or not, in my case BT is typically half a second behind when playing games
This works great and easy setup. I am gad I found it before I spent more $$ of crap devices that don't do what this one does. Worked on both micro USB and C-type. Thanks ETS Prime
This is amazing! Hey ETA you know android has a hidden desktop mode. You'd think you can setup a ghetto samsung dex on the iplay 40 with this setup? That'll be the most epic video you'll ever do!
Great review man thank you! I also got some extra info i didnt even know I was looking for. Emuilators and bluetooth controllers?? like whht. thank you!
The worst thing is that thing still requires wireless networks and authorizations. MHL was free of that crap
Yup
@@PaulCotton but does my tv need mira cast app ?
still requires wireless networks? means that simple pc monitor unable to run it?
Is affordable getting a 60 MHz transmissor, which connects direct and wirelessly with no Internet. Sadly I have never found it and webs from Tech Channels are expired.
I spent so much time just because I wanted to see my phone on my TV. I didn't look at the basics do you realize it wouldn't work anyway. I'm trusting you on this one. If it doesn't work remember, I know where you live 🤨🧐🤔
Did you tested Netflix? AFAIK this screen-capturing solutions don't play nicely with DRM.
The product on Amazon says that Netflix won't work and any other paid app like Amazon prime
@@Thorin88 thanks for this comment. I was reading the second listed as "optical" instead of "optional" and I was very confused.
Switch Lite + This adapter + A70 = Getto Switch , Thanks MyMateVince
I'm actually getting quite awesome performance while casting from my PC to a TV screen. The lag being within 10-20 ms or less judging by my gaming feel - which is barely noticeable. It is important that one of the devices is connected via cable. Then depending on the distance to the router your minimal one way lag is 2-4ms and two way will be double that. Cable is pretty fast so you will also get the awesome experience. Also the TV monitor hardware is important. If you are pushing higher resolution the CPU needs to be stronger.
At Amazon link I see
"Renkchip 2-in-1 USB C/Micro USB to HDMI Cable for All Android Phone, 6.6ft MHL to HDMI Adapter"
but my Moto G Pure does not have MHL.
So this would NOT work?
I see several comments have asked about MHL
The downside of this device you're unable to cast paid streaming service apps like Netflix, Hulu and etc.
That's sucks. I'm glad you mention that.
Unable? Why?
@@elfedorausado due to DRM. It's common.
@@aaronlee7991 mmm. I fail to understand how would that infringe anything, if all I would be doing is proyecting the service I already pay for into a larger screen for mere convenience. If I were to cast said service to show to a larger audience, say, a backyard screening of a copyrighted film,, I would understand
@@elfedorausado My guess is a marketing tactic. They force us to buy streaming device like ps4/5, roku stick, etc. just to watch on your tv. Otherwise no point buying them when your phone does almost everything.
Thanks for showing this off! Just purchased via the link for my Samsung Tab A7 which doesn't support HDMI. Crossing my fingers that it works with this tablet!
Is it work?
Did it work?
@@p4olit4 lol actually not sure, I sold the tablet cus the screen was so bad. Got a yoga pad, will try it with it sometime
This is exactly why I'm suscribed here !!! Just bought it and played my android copy of Simphony of the night through my Fire HD 10 , with audio and wireless controller way more than decent enough, thank you so much for this
If my phone is not compatible with MHL, And i alrdy bought an usb type c hub 5 in 1 with hdmi port incluided on hub, what can i do for screen mirroring ( my cel with android 10 to my Tv HD?) seems like the in-build hdmi hub port is only compatible with IOS, IPHONES and Macs.
It "should" work on any Android and iPhone/iPad device for as long as USB OTG is present.
Those x-in-1 HDMI output won't work, I have messaged almost all sellers and almost everyone said it does not support devices without native video out (DP/MHL). I have personally tried the 8-in-1 variant and promptly returned it to the seller and got a refund. bityl.co/6tfU
I can’t wait for someone to run doom on that adapter
I've actually bought this adapter and it's really awesome. It doesn't work well if I had my device refresh rate set to 144hz so I had to take it down to 60hz but I can't notice or sense any lag with it
With this device is there a way to use the monitor as a second screen versus just casting the same screen again?
Amazing coverage as usual. I'd say your tablet was performing even better in terms of latency than the Moto G Fast - pausing the video and using the comma and period key to jump frames. Great adapter.
Would be cool if you could do more of a desktop mode/productivity, test/review with a mouse and keyboard.
I been waiting for this to play COD, Stadia, Android Games, and more...
Same
Doesn't stadia lag like crazy?
@@unliving_ball_of_gas Stadia does not lag if you have a fiber connection

What about the Fire tablets?
I'm looking at my Fire 8 with miracast available on the Playstore and none of that "This app might not be compatible with your terrible, terrible Fire tablet". My friend gave me his old one and I don't understand why someone would pay for such limited functionality? Long story short (too late), I'd bet you can make it work so long as miracast does. Do you need to know how to get the Playstore on your Fire as well?
Thats awesome, I just realized I can buy the cable here from México, I just bought it a week ago and waiting upon for Arrival, I wanna test My cellphone and conect into a portable touch screen

My phone is samsung a14 5g 2022 model , will it support to my phone

Thank you very much for this video. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 without MHL (so no HDMI support) and it could potentially allow me to play on my TV anyway!
Thanks for the examples with the emulators, that's also the kind of use I want to do, so it speaks to me a lot!
I hope I'll have as little latency as you do! (I mainly play Kart Rider Rush +, with an Xbox One Elite controller using Mantis for touchpress emulation ^^ it's so great... all I need is the ability to play on a big screen!).

Is there a way to just extend the display instead of mirroring?

Same, the only thing I don't like about pixel phones
Me too - Pixels have been very hit and miss when it comes to the features they support over USB.
What is the name and description of the hdmi device you are using? What is the name of the app you are using it with? Do you think that device would work with the Samsung A13 (5G) cell phone?
Been looking for something like this. I want to take my drone video running on my tablet to my FPV goggles HDMI input. I have always wished I could fly my camera drone through my FPV goggles.
Can you use the 3.5 audio jack instead of bluetooth? I want to use an external speaker.
Looks nice! Is it sold anywhere besides amazon? I try not to shop at amazon anymore.
UPDATE. Technically yes. You can mirror from A02s and it is easier with this connector. Surprisingly plug and play. HOWEVER you will only be looking at home screen as it will freeze the image if you even try to scroll at more than a snails pace.
My next move is upgrading to A53 5g. And I will post another update.

Thank youuu. So my 2 kids use to have 2 Xbox ones, one broke. They've been fighting over playing (they're minecraft & roblox kids) but this makes my life a little easier. I got a wireless charger hooked up, got my hdmi plugged in, with a xbox wireless controller paired, bought/downloaded minecraft and roblox=GAME CHANGER!! My son just complained about not having a keyboard...but I was just digging around in my misc. Electronics box, and we got a Bluetooth mini keyboard! My son thinks I'm a genius 🤓🤓🤓 but I'd like to thank youuu SiRRR!!! 😎😎😎 I even downloaded my emulators from childhood, psx, n64, Sega dreamcast, snes. I've been playing Tony hawks pro skater 1&2, Zelda ocarina of time, jet grind radio, they all played damn near flawlessly on my Samsung galaxy S9. Only game that didn't play well was "Conkers bad fur day" but from most forums im seeing. Nobody can get that game to run smooth so no complaints on this end! 🥳🥳🥳
I'm wondering if it would be a good option for the Tab S6 lite since it doent have DEX or TV output?
I was researching that before looking to get a S6 lite, but it seems like Samsung dropped the DEX except S6 and above, or if you can find S5e, that would work but S5e is priced between S6 and S6 Lite and its benchmark just barely above S6 Lite. I checked iPlay 40 and it supports MHL. So anything that says it support MHL will work, but not S6 lite.
I love your game choices! That's my era! 💪🏽
I think it only work on devices with MHL Support.
Update: plays better on my LG G6, actually fuller picture even in landscape...just use headphones via 3.5mm
Wonder if it works with FireOS as it's just modified Android.
The FireOS also has the Wireless Cast option that is just hidden lol, BUT you CAN access it, but yea this should also work for Fire Tablets
So we need alt-dp mode?
Someone actually made a video that matters ty
Was very excited to learn about this product.. rushed over to buy one and sadly the seller doesn't ship to my country..😭😭... Great video anyway.. thank you...
why does an HDMI "adapter" need location permissions right after asking for bluetooth
Wireless connections maybe?
It only asked to turn Bluetooth on, not to have access to it. Sadly, on Android, apps need the Location permission to access the WiFi list and Bluetooth devices. That's just how it works, because both *can* be used to get the phone's location.
THANK god you tested the A01
*He didnt show the POCO M3 tho.. I was waiting for it but he said it connected but I need to see it for my self since M3 don't have MHL support*

I haven't seen it used in Poco M3. I'm curious how it worked and if it has delay with MI UI
Feels like half sec input lag on Poco x3 pro for call of duty mobile. Also feels hot
Thank you UA-cam. I was exactly looking for this.
I think it's running "scrcpy" for casting.
That’s why it needs Bluetooth for audio.
If it was running scrcpy it wouldn't need to confirm the casting dialog (since scrcpy bypasses that)
Yup, something is going on here. It's definitely not pulling the signal straight from the USB port.
Didnt he talk about Miracast?
Thats basicly the android built in streaming via usb network tethering to the device at the hdmi port which combines it and creates a hdmi signal.
@@jonas99g Is a possibility too.

The alldocube iplay40, I’ve been trying to find something like this for a long time.
ETA you are a genius thanks for the video now I can play my game from my phone
The one that you have is not available on amazon anymore, and the optional one that you linked requires the user to download an app from the web, not from the play store. So unfortunately it's a double fail.
Is there a way to use the monitor as an extended monitor like you would be able with the Prokect options on a PC? Like not just mirroring
We can actually run NES on that HDMI Dongle.
Please tell me what is this adaptor brand on Amazon, regards Mark.

The other adapter is just straight HDMI to USB C,
If the phone does not support HDMI “AltMode” it just won’t work, with this adapter it works with and android device
