Same! Also the Led backlight sun lamp is my favorite!
The final product looks amazing, good job!
But for anyone attempting this kind of metalwork I would recommend adding some transparent nitrocellulose laquer after polishing the housing since brass tends to build up patina quite fast. It can be removed though but with the paint job done upfront the brass will maintain its finish.
i did this on “easy mode” by reusing the laptop display assembly and modifying a raspberry pi 3d print template to fit the driver board then just fixing it to the back. the laptop hinge got reused and works great. just have to flip it around by undoing the nuts and adding new lubrications.
good alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to go thru all the metal work or doesn’t have the tools or space
So the raspberry pi is replacing the control board?
@@quinxx12 no just the case.

best tutorial I've seen so far. You covered every possibility I was hoping for. The built in battery that you plug into with usb is THE best touch in the build. Its a perfect solution to get rid of the power cable yet its sleek and no extra finagling, just taking advantage of the built in features.
But how do I know what battery to look for for a basic LCD panel , for a build like this, the Controller board I got, says it requires 12v 3A, that is big for a "slim" LI-o battery.

That ps5 sneaking into frame at 13:00 now makes a lot of sense!
Brilliant build! I would like to add just one tip... Brass oxidises. especially when touched with bare hands as the oils in our hands speed up that process leaving the brass tarnished and discoloured. So, to save you the heartache of having to continually polish this, which could lead to potential damage, I suggest clear coating all of the brass once its been cleaned and ready to receive the parts. the Laquerre or Clear coat will create a very hard protective coating on the brass keeping it looking shiny for years if looked after. Then it'll only ever need a simple dust off now and then.
Doesn't the metal polish already adds a layer over it though?
@@8bviews91 god damn it. Not helpful, but okay
@@SuperSohaizai no. Metal polish does not add a protective layer.

i agree, he has an art to his science, which is very appealing to me
Top quality 👌🏻
Once again, proving I don't know how to do anything.
This person sounds similar to the British narrator of how its made
Matt in another 2 years time: "I made this out of my new favourite material... Titanium... Which can easily be welded in a vacuum so remember to wear your oxygen mask if you try this at home."
Titanium, Niobium and Zirconium are metals that can be easily anodized in vivid yellow, green, or blue (or a rainbow style). And this is not an acrylic paint. So, why not?
It also looks quite smart!
hahahahahaha
OR much easier, an enclosed welding booth purged with argon. You can easily convert a sandblast cabinet into one. Seal it up and put argon in it. It just needs more pressure than the outside of the cabinet. Argon is heavier than air so the cabinet really doesn't even need a top!!! (I cast titanium golf club heads for 15 years and built the welding cabinets AND vacuum induction machines).

Brass is a very nice material, as copper as well. The problem is that they oxidize pretty fast and get dull. If you want to keep it shiny than you should apply a transparent metal varnish. Good job, looks amazing.

I really appreciate that you used actual DIY methods instead of just 3D printing a bunch of stuff and gluing it together
Sure you could say it's just 3D printing things and glueing together but soldering electronic components, doing the actual 3D modeling, and doing prototypes/testing, are all important parts of that kind of DIY. The same applies for this with the only serious difference is that it's much harder for someone to replicate this kind of thing as not everyone can source some materials (brass in this case) or the tools required to work with it. 3D printing is relatively cheap in comparison as people either have access to a printer already, and if they don't, wouldn't have to pay as much to buy one as they would for the materials in just one or two projects.
@@sacripudding4586 Yeah, but having a 3d printer is far less common that having a hacksaw and some files

Damn this built results in a better product than many mass-market monitors/screens!
I've been wanting to make a fold out touchscreen for the for the kitchen to make following online recipes easier. This idea would work perfectly, it's slim and doesn't require me to build and set up a small computer dedicated to the kitchen. I can just pull my phone out, plug it in and flip the monitor down (probably hinged to the bottom of a floating shelf with stiff hinges) and be ready to go.
These micro sized controllers coupled with modern 4k touchscreen capable monitors is kind of mind blowing.
