smartphone manufacturers really need to do more in this area. It really transforms smartphones in to a true "mobile computer".
Hey man I love that you upload frequently, can you please do a studio tour sometimes?
Yh that would be sick

Yes
yeah
this is his studio !
This is definitely the future of computing. Using a phone as a desktop. Very neat ! Would be enough for the vast majority of users who only use their pc for mail, youtube, banking and light gaming.
@Your MOVE There’s no point in doing that. The cool thing about turning your android phone into a desktop is that you can have on device for everything. You can take it outside and use it as a phone but then bring it home, plug it into the dock and then you have a very decent desktop PC. I could even imagine that there are some docking stations out there where you could have it as a laptop with the phone sitting in a space for the trackpad. I reckon this could really be the future of computing where you only need one device to do 99% of your work. I mean, unless you’re doing very strenuous processing or gaming, phones are more than powerful for pretty much every daily task that the average person is going to get up to
YEP those office companies better get ready for this transition to android desktops. :)
@@jamesorrell7462 I agree - this is the future. Small devices become both more powerful and more energy efficient - so in few years we could have a really monster PC that doesn't get that hot. And you take it everywhere with you, so that would be really convenient. Just need a monitor/keyboard/mouse and a dock for your phone, and can play and work on your system anywhere. BUT I think android (or ios) is not the best operating system for that. They are way too limitting. Those are really "mobile" operating systems, they might work fine for on-the-go but fail epicly when trying to use it as desktop. My hopes lie within projects like postmarketos, ubports, pinephone and similar, that try to give you full PC/desktop experience on small device. I think that in few years it will mature enough to be perfectly usable.
@@JackJack-xj8ei I think the target for things like Dex and whatever Apple have now brought out is Chromebook owners. Android and iOS are more equivalent to that than other desktop OS. So I'm assuming that's the marker they're going after. Why buy a Chromebook if your phone can do everything it does?
@@jamesorrell7462 Motorola did just that in 2011 with the Motorola Atrix. They even had a laptop-like dock so you could "insert" the smartphone and experience a sort of desktop linux OS.
I remember thinking that will be the future back then, but for some reason (most probably poor performance and/or compatability ) it didn't attract people and the idea was under developed until Samsung's Dex. Seems like now it's getting some serious attention from manufacturers, which is good.
Inspirational vid! So happy these mobile devices are surpassing traditional stationary tech. Gonna plan a dex build as well as a build for my iPad
About time you guys started doing these I've been wanting couple of these for a couple of years now
This is definitelly the future, I can already see basic and even discrete gaming laptops becoming obsolete as this becomes more common
Gaming on local hardware will always have relevance
@toronto daddy the red magic 6 pro runs emulators better than almost everything out there
Does it run emulators better than a Steam Deck? Did not think so
Oh thats going to take at least a century and would need some heavy investment from laptop apps to get ported over to the Android/ios environment
Not that its Impossible, but that It would take people willing to move from laptops and the freedom those machines give you in terms of operating systems and softwares, and It would take the actual phones being Just as powerfull as laptops, and i dont think this will be even possible due to the sheer ammount of size a laptop has vs a phone, you can allways fit more tech in bigger hardware.
@@slick6227 A lot of desktop apps already exist on mobile in one form or the other, and porting the rest would certainly take less than a century.
Phones don't need to be "just as powerful as laptops", they only need to be powerful enough to fulfill the needs of most laptop users, and, honestly? We're pretty much there already, I personally struggle to think of anything I actually need a laptop for (outside of my work, but that's because I develop software for a living).
So yeah, laptops may be the next piece of tech that phones drive to near obsoletion, like they did with digital cameras, watches, or, arguably, portable game consoles (Steam Deck and Switch still thrive, of course, but I'd argue that SD isn't really a console and Switch's sole saving grace is the strength of its exclusives).
i love this channel because the gadgets u show sir are affordable and the best utilites which are showcased
Dex on my Samsung 10+ works great for the PC part, but for Zoom, I needed a short (8"-40") selfie stick with tripod to get the camera pointed properly. With wireless keyboard & mouse, its a great setup.
Dude this is so innovative I had no idea dex was this capable
I'm blown away by its capabilities.
Thanks MUCH for anoother great share and product! I will put on my list to get one soon I hope! SHeers and all the BEST to you!
This channel give me a lot of good memory
This will be the future for gaming. One device to rule it all. I can’t wait for our future.
For some the future is straight edges from 2013, proprietary ports, tightly locked down systems and everyone is either a photographer, Instagram/tiktok model, audio and video editor. Multiple devices with compromises, so you need to buy different devices and pump up profits of company and destroy environment.
Its totally doable now with today's technology
@@tomk.williams1186 yes only on Samsung Galaxy flagship phones
All I ask for is Steam on mobile... phones are already authentic point of being able to run many triple A games of last gen and some from today's even. Just need that cross over.
@@info-load7952 on the flipside i could imagine an open phone with interchangeable parts (even being able to hotswap the SoC chip) and an open environment that can run any OS you want. Sadly it's hard to see a path towards that in the current industry, but it's not that hard to imagine that one day we could all be treating / using our phones the exact same way we use our PCs today.
love the intro , and great tech video... do share more tech products like this and possible things we can do with them, especially while working
Great channel for learning about devices🔥🔥🔥
Thanx ETA Prime for an interesting vid. I like the elegance of the Expand X for my Samsung DeX, as well as its "KVM" switch capabilites between my desktop and phone, in one neat package.
This is definitely the first time I see a smartphone holder with HDMI and USB ports. If I can get this attached to a lapdock like the NexDock Touch, that would be great.
Or have dual monitor connected to windows directly and use Dex for PC software in one of the screen. This will use Keyboard/mouse input connected to PC for controlling Dex and you don't have to press any buttons.
You should say 'This dock turns some Smartphones' into an Android PC.
dislike. wasting my time. i already have samsung, i thought this video is about other phones. irritate me a lot
samsung phones do this with any type c to hdmi??????
@@Dtr146 Not with any type. This function have only some Phones, usually those from highend S line but maybe some others too, if you search the model to find out about.
@@michael53667 my Galaxy s8 active could run it so it's not really only new models. Any phone with Samsung dex support can probably do this
@@michael53667 the a10e states its compatible with hdmi over usb
pretty useful indeed... great review and hands-on
the dislikes are from iphone users
iPhone users can buy Android on marketplace under twenty bucks
This product is right up my alley...
This looks cool. I just wish it can also do type-C to type-C video out while still being able to use the USB ports. This can be useful for touchcreen monitors. Samsung phones support touch via this connection but doesn't seem to be supported by all based on my test on a Huawei phone which just outputs the display without touch.
Definetly right in time to breath in some more life to my LG G5 👍
Thx for sharing
I'm using Ubuntu Budgie 20.10 on a HP Thin Client t620 and a LG Stylo 4. Scrcpy is the tool I use to control the phone with the HP t620. The phone is Android 8.0 so I have to plug the speakers into the 3.5 audio jack on the Stylo 4. If the phone was Android 10 then I would have used sndcpy to capture the audio. I'm using the Sentio Desktop app for a desktop interface on the phone. I've tweaked the Sentio app to look like Windows 10 and I have multi and resizeable windows as a proper desktop should. I use the Mantis gamepad mapper and Droidmote for remote and mapping needs.
You want the good news? Lg just backed out of the phone business. Support will be minimal in future.
@@antscape yeah, that's great indeed! On the other hand i'm just gratefull for all their failures which got me 2x VR360 to play around with, a top of the line phone none wanted and therefore went second hand for cheap and a pretty beefy speaker add-on.... all together for €70/$84. The value i get tinkering with those parts is just awesome !
Currently use a G5 with an old dell mini netbook and scrcpy. I have to limit scrcpy's bitrate and resolution because the PC is so weak but it works. I can even play games using a Bluetooth gamepad directly connected to the phone.
@@ruxcooking You can use Droidmote and their touch profile creator to play games without gamepad support in combination to said method.
Wow. Ok that was really cool to watch.
i did this with my phone and was using an xbox controller playing racing games and such lol. what an amazing time we live.
You just sold me this product. Imma wait for it to arrive!
Thank you so much mr prime!!!!
Cool little USB KVM switch for any two devices.
That is a nice dock.
I just use Samsung Flow or SideSync on my PC to access whatever I want from my phone while using my PC. Their phone screen mirroring function is actually quite reliable and smooth.
I hope you do a review of the new 2021 Barnes and Noble Nook. I was wondering how it do with emulation & HD streaming.
If this could have made being able to use Dex with two monitors, would be an instant buy for me lol
Just combine this with an HDMI splitter
@@egboj20 Is there one you recommend? I tried with my Note 9 and it didn't work, but maybe I didn't have a good quality one.
@@Onimusouka try one of a better quality on amazon. I don't really have one I recommend
@@egboj20 The splitter does not give you 2 desktops just 2 views of the same desktop.
@@hermanstokbrood I thought it was possible to connect the dock to an HDMI splitter and have even more views at once
Amazing video always love your videos. I will recommend "Samsung Dex Pad" or "Samsung Dex station" its samsung own docking station for samsung dex it also comes built in fan for keeping the phone cool while under heavy load.
Bro. Totally getting one.!
Holy cow! My mind is blown.
I bought a Samsung recently and I wanted to explore how to use it to the full potential. Definitely did not expect this cool capabilities
The idea is quite good, although I don't like how they placed the ports. Already with 2 cords attached it doesn't look like a sleek setup and you even didn't use a power cord. Would have preferred to have HDMI and USB-C power at the back and maybe the phone connector on the top of the unit with a way shorter cable (and yeah I know you could also use the phone in landscape, would still work and look cleaner imo)
I like that pc, looks very cool
Goodevening here ETA PRIME
Great little dock. Looks like it has some KVM like functionality built into it.
KVM?
@@darkbionic1044 yes. It allows some accessories to be switched between two devices without physically reconnecting them.
@@123Suryasis oh ok thanks for the info
It being a USB HUB+KVM switch is a massive feature.
@@user-im9zp4yp9x I hate to say it but you have a point, and that's why I don't use my phone in DEX mode.
3:30 that resize animation is dope... Windows should add it too
maybe add option to turn it on but I myself rather have 0,1 second resizing time wasted then watch 1 second animation betwean every resize etc....I rather have snap quick PC then good looking but slow one
it sucks
What a pleasant surprise to hear from you Forest gump.
Bro what monitor you using? All your review is the best I've seen
It's neat that it has a built in usb switch and phone stand, but I've got a very simple question that tends to get glossed over - Does it support more than 1080p on DeX mode? Sounds simple enough, right? It is until you realize that Samsung likes to play games with what hubs support what resolutions - typically their branded hubs enable higher resolutions. This, combined with the intentional lack of battery charging cap option on the phone line ultimately means I don't bother with DeX anymore. I'm all for what it COULD be, but until they stop dinking around with artificial limitations, I'm good. Still a neat dock if it works.

Very impressive and usefull gadget shown here. Especially for those who need a desktop PC in a few situations from time to time without the willing to buy a real PC. Also when there is not enough space at home to hold a big PC this can become an interesting solution. Thanks for this review.
What is the power delivery through the Expand X? Would it do super fast charging or just fast charging? Really good video btw. Interest is seriously perked.
Looks Interesting
Awesome upload. Big like
The Red Magic 6 got force desktop mode on secondary monitor under developer options. You should try.
It would be cool if the dock also a hdmi switcher not just usb switcher. It can be useful.
Can you add amazon shopping list so we can find your gadgets quicker?
you don't need THIS adapter to do this. samsung Dex works on ANY windows pc OR ANY HDMI MONITOR with ANY type C to HDMI adatper
Hi, thanks for the review. Will thins work with a cellphone with USB c 2.0?
Multi device bluetooth keyboard and mouse can do the trick for that setup too.
I can say that I have a BeeLink GTR-Pro and their quality is very impressive. If this dock is built anything like that then their price is justified IMO . I'm a big fan of BeeLink so this looks like another winner.
Can I use guitar pro 7 plugging in an external Disc drive?
I have to say it's good. Though 1st too many cables. The phone has Dexs already so you don't need the dock only type c to hdmi cable will do. 2nd baseus has a docking station that you just plug the phone into the dock and no need for cables apart from the one to the monitor.
Though I do like this standing dock. Great review 👍
Omg this is awesome! Does pixel series offer anything like DEX?
Hopefully, we can learn the winner of the April Giveaway :D
Microsoft Lumia 950 had this, amazing device
On my TinyInOne monitor for my lenovo tiny, there is a button on the front that swaps input, it also swaps the USB ports, camera, microphone and speakers over to my M1 Mini. I tried, and my Sony Xperia 1 supports second monitor, its a little bit jank and would prever to have full linux instead of android, but at least i can do many windows at the same time on the second screen, and 2 on the phone screen.
this is so awesome, but... i wish to know a list of phones that work with this type of adapter "HDMI through usb-typeC
samsung mostly. some other phones do it but they don't list it in the specs. you'll have to google that specific phone
Needs USB Type-C 3.1
@@NicCrimson thats true but a user claim that he manage to do it on a type c 2.0. Solution; converter from 2.0 to 3.0 type c. Which I'll be testing soon. I havent buy the peripherals yet
Cool. I can do this with my Sony Xperia 1 II by itself via HDMI and a monitor
Nice.. awesome
Yo this is awesome
Hey whats up everybody its ETA PRIME ❤️
Thanks for the video...would I be able to use this with my surface pro 9? As far as mirroring my phone.
Just bout one, I hope I like it
In developer options google had there own desktop mode. For all Android devices running Android 10+
You can use good router and wireless dex. Lot of simple.
One feature I liked about my old Note 9 was DeX. I miss it sometimes.
Your note 10 or note 20 has it as well....
@@samrod1989sr I prolly should've mentioned it but I ended up moving to a Pixel 5.
This is great and all, but as far as android being a "PC" when plugged into a display, well... that's been happening since Android 2.0, and even before.... with official docks existing as far back as the Note 1. With USB, KBD, Mouse, web cam, printer, scanner, mic, external drive, and more all having been supported since back then as well. There's a reason android has always been better than iOS for anything that actually matters since inception.... and this is part of it for sure. Though it goes much much MUCH further.
I'll give iOS a point for their security outlook and how they tell users about the permissions that the apps want.
@@Tuulos closed source and suing people when they inform them of security issues isn't a plus for ios. As well android asks permissions as well.
@@Tuulos Android doesn't only do the same thing, down to a per permission level, per app... but you can even turn on and off any certain particular permission per app... regardless of what the dev insists or intends. You can literally turn off contact access to a phone book app... or camera access to a camera app... or gps to anything, etc etc... totally a la carte
Can you place a wired usb keyboard and wired usb mouse for this setup? Thanks for this video!
Cool device
Is there a compatibility list (I have a p30 pro) and is the power fed to it sent to the phone as is? Meaning will super charging work as before?
Looks like it's compatible so I bought one 😱
The LG V60 also does
Yep
I really NEED this! I don't know for what but I NEED IT! lol
you don't even have to youe this specific one. you can use any type c to hdmi adapter
This kinds of content man!
I would like to use this for my laptop with only type-c, to "dock" it to my gaming PC setup. The partial KVM part would be the most usefull for me.
I assume it would work also with a windows laptop instead of the phone.
What kind of power can be delivered through the charging function?
I use Logitech K780 + M720 and I have no trouble at all switching devices straight away by just pressing 1 button. it works for 3 devices
I love this! I tryna make a switch type console with my Samsung Note 9, i bought a c-hub with c port, usb, hdmi and vga. 3d printed a dock type for the c-hub to make it like switch and now im thinking about the gamepad or joycons type, any recommendations? Or or would it be better to make my own gamepad from scratch? :)
(Sorry for the bad English I'm not American)
Anyway you could do raffles some of the extra gadgets you buy on the weekly? You could even do a patrion for tickets and make money for the channel with it ....just seems like less of a waste only if you dont already have a use for them
Would be kinda cool if it had ethernet port just for faster internet for game streaming
Can you do a video on the legion 2 phone
Apparently the best gaming phone
I’d love to see your thoughts on it
Everyone else is just unboxing them
Have You tried the program Barrier so You can use keyboard and mouse seamless between the devices? I do it with Ubuntu PC and Rasperry pi...
Hey great vid.. looking to get one but cant find for sale anywhere.. you have any other suggestion that do the same thing? Desperate to game on a larger screen without lag etc. TIA. keep up the great work
Cool. But how you handle battery? I mean how to re-charges your phone when use this dock?
I actually I’m getting mine in two days it took 39 days shipping but it actually does eventually show up I guess my tracking number sat in China for 37 days but it just showed up in Miami
O m g this is exactly what I've dreamed of lol this is ...... take my money!!!! All of it!!! NOW!!!!
Will the mice and keyboard swap work even without to plug the smartphone into a monitor?
I wish there was a dock with a telephone handset. It is more convenient to have long discussions on a handset. I can't tell you the number of time I've dropped my cell or the call trying to get comfortable. Also, not everyone uses speaker or hands free.
I just connect my Dex to my Windows PC wirelessly and put Dex on a second desktop environment. I can bounce back and forth on the single monitor with no issues at all...
DeX on Windows is different (worse) than running DeX straight to a monitor.
I wish the ports were all on the back... I don't like running an octopus across my desk ^^' But it is a really great little device!
main problem with phone docks
Glad I found your channel! This device is very interesting. I have a question. Can I set up the dock so I can use it to transfer files between my PC and phone?
Not sure if you ever found an answer to this but you don't need a dock to transfer files to / from your PC. If you have a USB type cable to charge your phone, and your PC has USB type inputs you can transfer files. I have an LG phone and I just plug my charging cable into my PC and I have full access to my phone's onboard storage and Micro SD card I installed in it.

there is even a dex for windows that is so cool you can use samsung dex with a pc or laptop within windows that allows you to do nothing to use keyboard mouse and monitor already connected to your pc or laptop. this feature is one of the developments of the partnership of samsung and microsoft that started with the move to use one drive instead of samsung cloud service that is now purely phone number and basic setup config backup now. a join them if you cant beat them move regarding cloud storage service!

Does the dock support 1440p and ultrawide resolutions with DeX? Most third party docks/adapters only support 1080p with DeX on regular (non Fold/Tab) Galaxy devices. They also tend to limit the active on screen apps to a maximum of 5.
A great dock on the market right now is the Skull & Co. Jumpgate. It's fully compatible with DeX including ultrawide 1440p support.
