- Vintage Jewelry Repair. How to replace a brooch pin. Have you ever found a beautiful vintage brooch in excellent condition only to flip it over and discover the pins missing? Frustrating isn’t it? I have good news!Depending on the type of pin or rather the type of mechanism that holds the pin in place, it’s actually a simple and easy repair. Today I will be repairing three brooches that my cousin purchased for me at an estate sale. All of them are missing their pins but in otherwise perfect condition. I’ll explain the type of pins you can easily replace, the tools and materials to use, plus I will demonstrate how to do it.

Thank you! I didn’t even think of using eye pins! I cut my end at an angle and sanded slightly so it could go through my blouses without snagging. This tutorial is simple but exactly what I needed!! 🤍

Thank you!😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
You can easily make a sharp point with rough sand paper or even an acrylic nail file. If you don't sharpen that point you are going to ruin some delicate clothing. But great video.
Thank you for watching 😊❤️❤️❤️

Love your detailed and relaxing viedoes
Thank you so much 😊 ❤️❤️❤️
You do alot better than most : i.e: I like the clarity of your photography/ filmography. Could you by any chance tell us what the marks mean , if you know, that is. I have failing eyesight, so when you zoom in on a mark I am still straining to read it 😆
Ann I have the same problem even with new glasses/ contacts! The mark on the bird brooch I haven’t been able to read, even with the loop, so I’m not sure on that one. The first pin/ Christmas tree isn’t marked. The last pin is marked Austria. It was made in Austria. Jewelry marked Austria is vintage and very collectible. The quality is always very good and the stones are amazingly brilliant. I hope this help’s. Thank you so much for watching 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great information. It would have been much easier to see if yiu used a solid color table cloth. It was way too hard to see with the background you used.
Thanks for watching ❤️
Thank you for the still shots for us to see exactly how it should look.
I have silly questions..does the stiffer wire come in gold tone if needed?
Can you take off (repurpose) a pin stick from a another piec and reuse on it? And I notice orginal ones have a couple of loops and a tail (stopper I guess) is this just fir more strength?
Hi Lorene,
Yes you can purchase the stiffer wire in gold tone. I’ve never repurposed a pin but I suppose you could. Yes it does add some strength. The stopper is to keep the pin from going back too far when it’s open. However, if the pin holder/ mechanism is snug it’s usually not a problem. Thank you Lorene and I hope this answered you questions. 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
I didn’t know you could do this. 🧐 thanks!
Also, I think the first eyeglass pin you showed can also hold eyeglasses. I received one a little like that for a gift. Clever, right!
That’s wonderful! I’m going to use it for that( to hold my glasses!) thank you Denise 😁😊❤️❤️❤️
Why not use a file stone to make the point of the pin sharp so it won’t snag fabric? Great tutorial.
You can Use a file. I’ve used one before. Thank you 😊 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
