I have a question, I have a beautiful vintage 1950/60s choker, bad design as far as a box clasp on a clasp of Rhinestones and Expandable watch band tight. The one end broke off, I am trying to get creative and do a fix. I looked into UV glue light kit, or JB Weld, I even thought of soldering. It is so beautiful I hate the idea of using not in a craft. Any ideas??? I have stressed over this piece for 5 years since I find it in a junk jar

A am not entirely sure what item you are trying to repair. Without a picture a can't be 100% sure. However, I would most likely solder it using a heat gun.
thank you for sharing! can you tell me how difficult it would be with ordinary household tools to remove existing pin bar findings from a brooch~or if its even possible where they appear to be an integral part of brooch (vs pinbar that's been screwed, glued or affixed on eg) Hoping to convert brooches into flatbacks to apply to shoes. Hi Baby Renee. if the catch and the swivel appear to be part of the brooch it is probably plated pot metal. The pin components may be cut off with side cutters, but if the brooch is plated you will have unplated areas where you cut the pieces off. You have to be careful with pot metal because if it gets too hot the entire piece will melt. If the brooch is made from stampings and is soldered to the back you can hit the pin area with a torch or possibly a heat gun and melt the solder which will allow you to remove a bar pin or the catch and swivels. However, with any finished plated pieces you have to be careful not to apply to much heat or you will ruin the plating.
Hello, Jan. Thank you for your video. I'm trying to make a brooch myself. But I encounter some difficulties regarding the way it stays on the clothing. It is very loose, no matter how I put it, and I don't know why this happens. It simply doesn't stay in place when I put it on the clothing piece. It falls a bit to the left, or to the right. Do you have any advice on this matter? The brooch is somewhat large, about a finger's size, and it has about 10 grams weight. Thanks in advance!
Without seeing the brooch and/or what you are attaching it to I am just guessing. It sounds like maybe the fabric is too light weight to keep the brooch in place. I am not sure how to remedy that. However, you might try taking a piece of ribbon or fabric that is close in color and hold it to the back side of the garment and run the pin through both the garment and/or ribbon. This should keep it from sliding from side to side.

Hi, Jan. Lovely work. I have several pins on which the clasp is too loose to keep the pin locked. Is there a way to repair the catch? Do I need to replace the catch - if so, where do I buy the pieces? Or can I just somehow tighten the catch? Thank you for sharing your expertise!
