Edward Norton quite literally disappeared in the role of Baldwin IV. I had no idea he even played him in Kingdom of Heaven until after viewing it. He was the best part of the whole film. A fascinating historical figure, King Baldwin IV.
*_"When I was 16 I won a great victory. I felt in that moment I would live to be 100. Now I know I shall not see 30. None of us know our end, really, or what hand will guide us there."_* -Baldwin IV :)
“A King may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those who move you be Kings, or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus." Or that, "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.” ― King Baldwin IV
The greatest dialogues in KoH are Bsldwin's. My choice goes to his final speech about confessing his sin when he sees God, not to the priest. I so love that. ❤
TikTok sucks. At least here you can bet that you’re getting actual history and not just some schmuck claiming Baldwin was like the first reptilian and their 28th great grandfather or some crap 😂
Ultimately, despite his youth and illness, Baldwin was very much a respected and effective ruler for the period. If anything, his resilience, despite his debilitations showed courage, commitment and devotion to duty. Something he pretty much carried out until his death.
If there's such a man.. beautiful in the heart, soul and mind. Mature, wise beyond his years, respectable and fair...I will love this man no matter how horrible he looked. True beauty is so attractive.
Godfrey of Bouillon King of Jerusalem, one of the leaders of the 1st Crusade, but also culinary genius, most of his fortune coming from his invention of Bouillon Cubes, some years prior. Though his reign was eventful, he's most remembered for his delicious addition to culinary history.
Having seen 'Kingdom of Heaven' and it's proud representation of Baldwin I feel he if not having been compromised by his sickness would have surely presented a more present alliance toward enemies of Christianity in Jerusalem. Wish Baldwin had more support.
@@nickscurvy8635 that is no true. The crhistians did a lo for people and they didnt take salves, some people were kill true but they let go to most to the capture. On top of that they didnt kill women and children the muslin did.
King baldwin is really the ideal image of what a leader should be. The level of discomfort he must have been in is really only matched by his humility, morality and intelligence. To meet your enemy on the field of battle and actually talk to them before engaging in combat to actually save lives is something that is absolutely lost on everyone today and thats what the problem is today, no one is capable of a rational discussion.
I think it's safe to say that his wasn't the only time in which monks wore body armor. Far from, sadly. Id be willing to bet that this very day somewhere there's holy 'men' relying on more than gods favor to keep them safe.
Since King Baldwin had Leporsy... and he was basically rotting away under those robes and mask... many smaller historians are now referring Baldwin as "The Undead King of Jerusalem". And he was a very wise young man, spoke from his heart and fought with strategy... his armor and weapons were as strong as his people... as was his WILL. His strength and power may have been odd, because he wanted peace... and to fight back the Muslims. Monks wore armor, and carried weapons. Children had to stay close to their parents, as even they were armed with weapons to defend themselves just in case of an invasion.
🏴🇬🇧💪🏻🙏🏻 Excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I believe his ability as a warrior is undeniable and had he not been ill he would have been even greater.🙏🏻.
Its a very bittersweet story this is my first time hearing about him, but despite his illness, he was able to rule the kingdom but, it cost him dearly of Jerusalem but, that was also the other countries as well when he was trying to send aid to Europe but, sadly they were fighting amongst themsleves but, if they came sooner it would gave Baldwin to push he needed to rule the kingdom.
i admired him for his wisdom and honorable personality The young king mastered horse riding despite gradually losing sensation in his extremities and was able to fight in battles until his last years. Leprosy precluded Baldwin from marrying. He hoped to abdicate when his sister, Sibylla, married William of Montferrat in 1176, but William died the next year
To answer the question posed at the end of the video. I believe Baldwin was used by God to bring about the fall of Jerusalem, but the way in which God did it, proved Baldwin to be a wise and strong ruler who indeed would've been, and was, capable of leading Jerusalem to greatness 🙏
Yes, the plagued Baldwin IV were, similar to King Alfred, or the brave William Marshall a righteous hero and should have gotten at least ten more years. Then, his nephew would have been protected, have learnt much of his future responsability and carry on the family 🌼😥

I'd be embarrassed to admit to watching TikTok. Sad how so many adults can't see it for what it is, let alone allow children to use it. These are future useful idiots, so not much hope for humanity really.
The passage read about leprosy being a punishment from God actually has nothing to do with leprosy. That comes from Isaiah 53 which is a messianic prophecy. Verses 3-4 (which were read) speaks of how the messiah would take on the sins of his people, and the following verses up until the end of the chapter only highly emphasize that point, it was a messianic prophecy about Jesus, not leprosy.
Probabilities lead to many outcomes. Had he reigned long and stopped Saladdin if he wasn't sick? We don't know. What we know is what happened and how it happened for the most part.
Despite many errors and absurdities in comparison with true history, in Scott's movie Kingdom of Heaven the best part was now Edward Norton played the role of this great, unlucky young king...❤
The movie did as well as it could. The period-accurate clothing/armor often simply doesn't survive and the costume department has to make do with they have in storage.
Numbers 12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. Do you think Baldwin’s father loved his mother and kept her with him at the palace because of this? It seems like he divorced and remarried just to get the throne. Unlike other kings who got rid of their ex wives either by sending them away or execution he kept her close.
The verse from Isaiah 53 is a prophecy foreshadowing the coming of a future Messiah and gives the reader a picture of what this Messiah will be like. It's not a description of leprosy.
It is an irony that Richard 1 England and king St Louis France partitioned the sick man of Europe Ottoman Turkey's Levant empire over 700 years in 1917.
