“A King may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those who move you be Kings, or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus." Or that, "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.”

The young king mastered horse riding despite gradually losing sensation in his extremities and was able to fight in battles until his last years. Leprosy precluded Baldwin from marrying. The passage read about leprosy being a punishment from God actually has nothing to do with leprosy. That comes from Isaiah 53 which is a messianic prophecy. Verses 3-4 (which were read) speaks of how the messiah would take on the sins of his people, and the following verses up until the end of the chapter only highly emphasize that point, it was a messianic prophecy about Jesus, not leprosy.

I really tried to watch the whole thing, but the fact that the images don't match the story makes a big difference. A lot of us have attention deficit and the droning of the narrator combined with the lack of relatable visual material makes this format untenable.
I'd recommend looking at the story-telling format of Kings and Generals, which is much easier to follow along with since their visuals are telling the same story as the narrator.

Are today’s depictions of Baldwin frowned upon by non-Christian groups due to the nature of the crusades and its divisions between Muslim and Christian faiths? I know while they were adversaries, Saladin did have great respect for Baldwin but is there a chance that Baldwin would be seen as xenophobic or Islamophobia today? I’m a teacher and would like to teach the crusades but want to be educated on this so that I do not offend other’s beliefs.

Idk about “offended”, but I wouldn’t want my child being taught about the crusades from a point of view that doesn’t encompass their entire scope. We talk about them like they were some noble cause, and it’s interesting to learn the reasoning and culture behind that, but the reality isn’t noble at all. They were holy wars designed to steal land they had no right to, by slaughtering innocent men, women, and children in the name of a supposedly forgiving and loving god. They stole and destroyed priceless cultural artifacts of Islam, then made up stories pretending they were actually Christian artifacts so they could rationalize the pillaging. Muslims were infinitely higher educated, yet the Christian world decided they were dumb heathens worthy of death. They wanted complete cultural extermination. The only way I can see covering this subject appropriately would be over several lessons. Idk what grade you teach, but elementary school is probably too young to grasp the nuances of this subject.
