Oh man John! You didn't have to do this! Thank you so much for the shout out and review, a truly kind gesture. More satisfying then making something with one of my tools, is to watch another smith us them to make something beautiful, this was a surreal experience. - Keep the forge lit!
Although most of us don’t have power hammers or the like, I really appreciate your real life use of such tools. It helps us understand the reality of blacksmithing on a professional level.
Agreed. My comment was going to be that this machine really shows its potential value in this video. Looking at the preview image I thought he was going to upset the end, a lot, to make the poker end. Nice job!
First timer, and new subscriber. I have NO idea how you do what you do!!!! Im a wood worker. But this stuff amazes me. Your skill and knowledge is unbelievable!!!!!! I can watch this all day!!!!! Love it!!!!!
I am glad I found your channel, I use to black smith years ago and life got in the way. for several years I was a part of a living history program so I got to work on some really nice old style shop, that was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I lent my tools to my nephew and He moved away so I am in the process of replacing some of my tools. I found a swedish made Anvil at a yard sale the other day, its pretty rough but still serviceable. maybe one day I will have someone fixing it up for me. Paid 60 bucks for a 110 anvil , I know I got a screaming deal. back 30 years ago I had a rivet forge that worked pretty well but that is gone. so I was thinking of picking up a gas forge.. not planning of selling anything just making stuff for my own amazement. Thanks for the videos, its alway good to learn something new.
This is a wonderful example of great creative blacksmithing, my grateful thanks because being a hobbyist blacksmith means I am learning from a master. Many thanks, and all the very best ~Wendi UK
Nice finish to the animal head. I think making the head, then making it into a poker was a great pair of videos. Now I will have to check out Timothy Dyck’s channel.
I like the hammer and the poker. Hate to hear about Johnson’s paste wax. I have a new can and may buy another while they can be found. Thanks for the info.
I was surprised to not see Johnson’s on the shelf as well. FYI Minwax has taken over that product it looks like 👍 it’s even cheaper but is the same thing . It’s even the same color container .
Really nice, John. I'm not into blacksmithing so my interest in your channel is the creative process. As such, I like to see you use all your power tools whenever it's practical. I'm not here to learn but I know many are. Bill
The Saymak hammer sounds exactly like a yanmar or kubota Diesel engine running. It always had a familiar sound to it and I couldn’t figure out why. Then it just clicked. 🧐
Absolutely beautiful job Timothy and hardy. John absolutely amazing fire poker. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Keep making. God bless.
Wow! 🙂 That poker is very beautiful, the working end is simple and the handle gives it’s elegance! It would be interesting to see some collaboration projects between you and other smiths. Thank you John for your knowledge that you share with us! Have a nice afternoon. 🙂
I hate to hear that Johnson's is quitting the paste wax business. I've come to love having those little tins around the shop for organizing things! Minwax offers a similar product that I've used over the years and I don't think it's any different than Johnsons, but the tin it comes it in is a bit different in shape. Great poker, John. I really like how the animal head came out!
@@Vikingwerk I'll have to give it a looksee. I buy my wax by the case, so I have a goodly bit of Johnson's left to get through before I have to worry about finding new stuff. I've tried the Minwax in the past and found it as functional as the Johnson's stuff. If Howard's is good.... well, it never hurts to have options!
Really, a functional and elegant piece to have by the fireplace. I really enjoyed following this project. Thank you very much! P.S. I need subtitles enabled to understand the English language and when the power hammer works it appears in the subtitles which is a "MUSIC" sound... and I agree. 😃
Check online for the paste wax. I was able to order a container of it, or should I say the wife did. Seems to me she told me they had multi packs of it?
Nice poker John , Love watching how easy the power Hammer moves metal mate. I watch Timothy as well its said that Martin is leaving he will be missed . (:
I watched this fabrication knowing you were going to form a log hook on the tip. I even had it in my head how you would do it. Funny thing is, I fully expected you to split the "fat end" from the other end of the section and then bend it out. Totally surprised me. My question is....would it have worked ok to split it from the upper section? In short, is it optional where you split it? Thanks.
Its a lovely hammer John, and box makes it just that bit more special! Nice work guys! The poker is also an artpiece John, have decided on weather the head is a ram or gargoyle?.
Great work as always. Question on the reclaimed rail hammer, or more so of the steel makeup of it. Do think it would work for hatchet/axe heads? A quick internet search says modern rail is 1084 or something similar. My forge welds are hit or miss so I'd rather stay away from welding in a hardened bit. I'd really appreciate any insight you could share.
Great Job on the Rams Head poker, I'd really like to see the 1st part (the rams head) then the poker. I must have missed the video. I'm particularly interested in the measurement of the bar stock... Thank You for all you do for US !!
i love powerhammers 😌 whats the price for this hammer you have? i dream about a powerhammer since many years but i dont have so much money and space for such a amazng thing...its one of my biggest wishes for santa 😅
here is the website for these hammers www.saymakhammers.com/about-us-1.html Looks like the price has gone up since I bought mine. But I sure don't regret having spent the money. Its paid for itself in increased productivity.
I have a request I would like you to show how to make some tools for making natural medicine and what I mean by natural medicine is like herbal medicine and that type of stuff.
Oh man John! You didn't have to do this! Thank you so much for the shout out and review, a truly kind gesture.

I was happy to. You make a great product and I wanted to share.

That’s what years of experience looks like too.

Timothy Dyck is a great smith with very well produced videos, his channel has not enough subscribers!
First timer, and new subscriber. I have NO idea how you do what you do!!!! Im a wood worker. But this stuff amazes me. Your skill and knowledge is unbelievable!!!!!! I can watch this all day!!!!! Love it!!!!!
Welcome aboard!
I know nothing about power hammers, but I can see the skill you have with that machine . Surgical. 🤨🤔😀😎👌
you are getting pretty darn slick with that power hammer
Ethan and Timothy did a great job with those. Very cool, and it's awesome to see reclaimed steel being put back out there as tooling.
Nice. I follow Timothy as well, so really cool to see you using one of his products!
Thank you for the video. The hammer and the poker are both works of art.
Briwax has been my go to for 20 odd years!
You won't be disappointed 👍

Great job on the Poker John, and the new hammer did it's job too. That's a win win for you. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.

I love how y'all get together and support each other. Tim's a great artisans. You're not too bad yourself 😀
I recently received my hammer as well. It quickly became my favorite to use. It feels excellent to swing.
Nice finish to the animal head. I think making the head, then making it into a poker was a great pair of videos. Now I will have to check out Timothy Dyck’s channel.

A cool poker to increase the joy of poking at a fire even more enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👏
i've done DIY paste wax. it was really easy, and you can tailor the ingredients to get specific results.
I was surprised to not see Johnson’s on the shelf as well. FYI Minwax has taken over that product it looks like 👍 it’s even cheaper but is the same thing . It’s even the same color container .

Great resource! I especially like the ending showcase of this video. Looking like a professional photographer now too, John.
Lanolin from sheeps wool works well
Cheers from Aus
Thoroughly enjoyed this

Love the shape of the poker...

Howard makes a paste wax in pretty much the exact same container. Not tried it yet, but will give it a go once my Johnsons wax runs out.

I was wondering about the handle too.
Great work and awesome anvil !
Nice poker John, and a nice hammer too!
Great Video ! I see that you got serial number 2 ! I got number 16 They are good hammers for sure !
You might look at Trewax Clear Paste Wax or the Citrus Shield.
I am profoundly disappointed that this hammer is sold out now.
Another fine video sir.
I like on this episode you showed US your touch mark //

Excelente trabajo, hermano oso!!
Great work nice job
A dragon scale twist would look awesome for a handle grip on that pice.
Hello John
A very good looking fire Poker.
Thank you for your Video
Take Care i wish you both a good New week
Yours Frank Galetzka
Love the videos hope your having a good day 😎
the preview's just like
"mom can we buy a billhook"
"no timmy, we have a billhook at home"
the billhook at home:
Bowling alley wax?
SOLD - The poker is available here, www.etsy.com/listing/1250451318/forged-figure-head-fire-poker-blackmith?ref=listings_manager_grid -SOLD
I’m no blacksmith just enjoy the videos. I’d be to scared to mess up that hammer it looks awesome
Nice support for fellow blacksmiths! How was the rebound? It didn't look to be as good as your old hammer
Check online for the paste wax. I was able to order a container of it, or should I say the wife did. Seems to me she told me they had multi packs of it?
I'd be interested in buying an unhandled carving axe head
Turtle car wax works very well for me
Nice poker John , Love watching how easy the power Hammer moves metal mate. I watch Timothy as well its said that Martin is leaving he will be missed . (:
I saw that, it also looks like a new shop may be in the works.

Should work fine from either direction but it might have a different finished look
Very nice hammer. Simple German pattern cross peens are the nicest hammers in my opinion.
Its a very classic style that you would never go wrong with
Its a lovely hammer John, and box makes it just that bit more special! Nice work guys! The poker is also an artpiece John, have decided on weather the head is a ram or gargoyle?.
I see it as more Gargoyle myself

Tim has been making a bunch of axes from reclaimed rail. So I think its pretty good stuff. ua-cam.com/video/Jo3Iv8ccSTo/v-deo.html
@@BlackBearForge that's great, I'm going to get started on one this week. Thanks for the info.
My wife said to wrap some grippsion around the handle ..... lol
That's a great looking hammer. It almost looks like yo need a specific set of tongs to hold the head on the poker
Yes, A pair of bolt tongs with an over sized bow would be useful.
Really sweet hammer! In theory, shouldn't a hammer made of track harder with use and only become better at it's job?
WHAT? No more Johnsons paste wax?! Bummer.... Anyways great video, as per usual! Thanks for the great content!
I would buy a tin of BBF paste wax.
I can send you a can or two of Johnson's paste wax I bought a ton when it went on clearance at Lowes
Thanks, but I think I have enough to get by for a few years myself.
Nice job. Now I have to ask, we’re you the “Pike” repairman when you were on the job?
This is so cool! I don't suppose I could commission you to make me a staff or something?
Great Job on the Rams Head poker, I'd really like to see the 1st part (the rams head) then the poker. I must have missed the video. I'm particularly interested in the measurement of the bar stock... Thank You for all you do for US !!
