Ok, good video! Extra vocabulary, and a cool looking poker! I make fire place broom blanks for the club in similar fashion in a rustic style using rusty 1/2" sq bar that's been wire brushed and planished. But sometimes whopper jaw tends to transform into cattywompus! carry on and keep up the good work!

I’ve watched this bideo a couple of times now and it’s very informative for a newb like me. However, I’ve encountered this: my bar stock keeps twisting on me while hammering the points. How can I prevent this?
If it's a lazy day 2 flat jaw tongs will do the job, works fast and clean

Iv got a small gas forge, iv attempted this a few times but cant get the welds to stick. Starting to think my forge cant get up to a high enough heat for a proper forge weld. I was thinking i should just go out and buy a little welder. Any thoughts?
You need borax to clean the flux, and get the steel hot.
Was that 3/8 or 1/2 bar?

Gentlemen, my guess he used 1/2" sq. At minimum, depending on where the poker is going to be used and shop equipment available 5/8"-3/4" and at least 36" is my recomendation for a fireplace poker, camp fire length or outdoors firepit, 48" remember you want to move logs not bend a poker! Hope this helps!
