  • Hey guys its Maxine! Thanks for watching my full detailed tutorial on how to do a color fill in the hair to go brown. I hope you get a lot out of this video because color filling hair to go darker from blonde to brown doesn't have to be as challenging as it might seem and can be pretty easy once you understand the color wheel. In this video I break it all down and explain it in a way that hopefully makes it easier. Please leave any questions you have in the comments.

    Out of all the video I have watched about color filling from blonde to brown, this has been the only one I have completely and fully understood and it's been the only one that hasn't made me feel intimidated and scared to actually try to do it myself so thank you for making this video.

    Thank you so much. I went through so many videos, trying to find one to get my highlighted hair back to brown. The others talked too much and were silly. I am 80 years old and yours fit what I was looking for. Thank you so very much.

    Your video is amazing! I’ve been in the business for over 30 years and you have simplified the formula back to natural unlike some instructors. I’ve read the comments but clients know more about hair then they lead off 😂😂😂. They do it because the care about their hair and if your a stylist that educate their clients you’ve save them from at home hair destruction to instructions. This is a win ❤

    Thank you so much for this video!! Since moving to Florida 6 years ago, I can’t find a salon colorist to dye my hair correctly. I’ve been to at least 10 different salons & every single one has messed my hair up! They charge $200 and I leave with orangey/reddish hair.
    It has been so frustrating to say the least. I just mixed these two dyes together & followed your directions & my hair came out awesome!! Finally, after 6 years of bad dye jobs, I can do it myself thanks to you! ❤️

    Hi,
    I am currently in school for Cosmetology. I’m very interested in learning everything there is to know about color. I didn’t really understand what was meant by color filler but, your video helped me to understand it better. I am now a fan, and will be watching more of your videos. Thank you for being a guiding light for hairstylist/colorist. You’re truly an inspiration!

    Just watching to learn how to DIY hair. I recently did my own hair blonde and started making the habit of taking notes from the youtube videos I watched and it definitely helped me get it right. I always need to have a current thing I’m learning and this is it now. might still go to a salon for getting this on myself though since it’s less expensive than getting highlights and they have so many toners at their disposal.

    I recently had this done and it worked like a charm!
    In fact my profile pic shows the B&A!
    I'm a natural level 7.5N. I think she toned me about 4x to fill using mostly goldwell and then finished with some shades eq on top to find the end result. I wanted to be about a 6.5 ashy/ neutral light brown but when I started pulling muddy mucky gray green in my ends even with all that warm toning she had to go darker with the final gloss. My hair is notorious for not holding color even when healthy and so we both assumed I'd be back to get reglossed within weeks. But nope!
    After 3 montths my natural blonde root was back in a bit and I had faded to a dark Irish setter auburn that honestly looked great on me but that was nowhere near my natural tone and my goal here was to grow out my own hair bc it's been so long since I've even seen the natural color. So she just recently retoned me only this time she went with a lighter gloss in a shade closer to my own tone so that as I keep growing in the line of demarcation wont be so severe.
    The beauty with just toning is that my hair is also getting so much healthier as it grows in.
    FWIW- I have a TON of fine moderately damaged hair, about a 2c/3a curl in the under 2/3 and only about a 1c wave in the crown.
    My pic is where we started and the results from the initial brunetting. Im about 1 level lighter with slightly more neutral tone now.

    I’m just starting out training as a stylist. I have damaged my own hair with bleach and had a copper colour which washes out. I now have been putting treatments on my hair and looking to fill my hair and go back to back to my natural dark brown. We have been learning in college about filling the hair. This video was really informative! I just worry about the copper band I have in my hair. I have about 1-2 inch of natural regrowth about level 4-5 then 2 inch of copper banding and the rest of my hair is about a level 7-8. I’m looking for ideas of how to best treat my hair and get it back to a healthy standard. You explained this so much better than my teachers! Love this video ❤️

    • @MaxineGlynn
      @MaxineGlynn  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you! If your hairs damaged then its best to color fill and color it darker. It really depends on what level your goal is and if your hair is strong enough to tackle the band to go lighter. Your best bet to keep your hair healthy is If you just color it a level 4-5 as your goal Then it’s okay that copper is in your hair and just cover it.

    I wanted to understand what a filler is and why it’s needed. I tried to remove unwanted color at home myself; ended up with bleached blonde on the top of my natural dark brown! One of the hair professionals I reached out to say, it would need one, maybe two fillers before the color. Sure wish you could to my hair color correction!

    I tried to color fill with semi permanent dyes on my level 10 bleached hair, but it didn't take and ended up turning a muddy green. I used an light auburn box dye to put warmth back in, and then used black after. It came out darker than I wanted, but that's my fault for using black instead of dark brown. Still pretty happy with my results since I did everything myself as a total noob.

    Im not sure if you will ever see this but I was not offered this option. I started getting gray hair and just wanted something to cover it. I was talked into getting my hair bleached. The salon person told me that that is the best way to cover the grey. I'm so frustrated. I do not like it at all and when I went back to get it changed, I was told you cannot put color on bleached hair. You gave me hope. But now I'm going to have to find someone willing to do the filler process.

    Wow that is perfect. I hope that in a couple of months when I decide to do this, that my hairstylist can achieve the same results. I haven't been able to find anyone that will do this two step process, they all just mix the color and put it on. I've asked about filling the hair and they say it's already in the formula.

    • @MaxineGlynn
      @MaxineGlynn  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you. Yes Color fill tones can be added to the formula in one step but I do that only in cases of clients who want to go back blonde the next time. For a client who wants the brown to last and not fade back to blonde then this way of doing a color fill is the correct and complete way of doing it.

    Hi! Thanks for posting such an educational video!
    Questions.... could you have done this without putting the last dye all over her hair? Like I'm trying to do this at home, but I don't want to any dye on my natural brown roots. Is it possible to just colorfill and dye the blonde part without touching the roots? And once this fades, do you have to colorfill again then use brown dye? Or would you just use the brown dye?

    Never learned this in school, this was super helpful. Question: what about a NATURALLY blonde client who wants to go super dark, do you need to color fill as well?

      Yes you still have to fill the hair either way

    Such an educational video! Need some advice, my hair was box dyed black (terrible I know) back in July August professionally it was lightened with a partial balayage. The result was a reddish / copper toned which I loved but it faded quickly and was then professionally glossed to give an all over dimensional black/brunette. The gloss has faded showing the brassy balayage again and I have way too much on my plate to get into the salon. I have natural roots, faded black its more a very dark brown now, and the highlights. I want to go back to the all over dark brown which I know won't go over any black, but what shades do you recommend for the filling process? I was thinking of mixing Wella 7RR and Wella 7WG. Both are demi, then for a final using 411/4N a medium brown. Will these shades work together? Thank you so much!

    I have a client who’s hair is silver and it has faded some and now it’s silver in some parts and brassy and the roots are a brassy yellowish tone. What do you suggest to use for filling and then what color should I use for the brown?

    Could you use the Filler colors in your end goal color all at once? Or should it be a 2 step? & what’s the difference in using the “filler” in the bottle they sell at Cosmo?
