When I bought my first replacement Breville Smart Oven I just started using parchment paper under everything in the new one. It solved the problem & a year later & my oven still looks brand new. Side note, my first Breville lasted 6 years with extensive use (probably used it at least three times a day, every day). This thing is a BEAST!!

Just put the parchment paper under the food. Also, crumpling the paper makes it easy to place and shape.

I can't remember when I purchased mine but probably just over a year ago and it really is a beast. I hardly turn my big oven on anymore. I have the pro version so it has the air fryer and we just put a silpat mat on the bottom and I clean that every 6-8 weeks instead!

Trouble is - at the end it still looks less-then-clean. All those dark/black stains all over the oven's internals. I do love this oven, use it more than once a day on average - but Breville really messed up the design in making it almost impossible to clean - a fatal design flaw I say.

I cleaned mine Breville ( Sage in the UK ) yesterday and I agree, it's not easy. Not helped by the black interior either. I had to keep putting the light on. Managed to get it really clean, apart from around the fan. I have had mine for nearly 5 years now and whilst I love it and use it daily. I'm on the look out for something as good but easier to maintain. I do use an oven liner on the drip tray to keep it as clean as possible.

First off, these are life-changing miracle devices for getting a great dinner on the table fast, and have made me a much better cook. Unlike the crock pots, instant pots and multicookers that actual just result in boiled food that all tastes the same and ended up taking way more time than stove-top cooking.
But what nobody will talk about is what a nightmare these ovens are to clean. Nothing actually works. None of these appliances have a self-cleaning function, and they get very dirty very fast. You diligently clean it as best you can following the instructions to the letter, watch every time-lapse video on UA-cam of some influencer who spent all day on the project demonstrating how easy it is to keep clean. You try every recommended product and baking soda, vinegar etc. You try and fail to clean around gaping fan holes, finger-breaking nooks and crannies, heating elements (without touching them-a cruel joke if there ever was one). After about an hour you give up from sheer exhaustion, throw away the ruined sponges and microfiber cloths, and dunk your beat-up hands in a bowl of ice, only to end up with baked-on grease that looks barely different from when you started and only builds up over time until you throw it away and buy a new oven.
And you will buy a new one, because they are wonderful and indispensable. But they ARE basically disposable. Landfills will be full of these in a few years.

The manufacturer doesn't say why you shouldn't use aluminum foil so here is why, lining an oven with foil increases the intensity of heat on oven surfaces that can lead to surface damage like scratching or chipping on the porcelain finish and damage to heating elements.

Hi - very good video. I like how you showed methods that didn’t work so well (I.e., scotch brite pad on the mesh), so others can just avoid wasting their time with those.
I saw you used a toothbrush; I tried a copper scrub pad, but had better luck with a stiff nylon brush. You don’t have Dollar Tree in Canada (maybe Dollarama?) but I found a Quickie brand brush which I used. It dislodged more (but not quite all) of the stuck-in food bits and grease
Just curious what ratio of baking soda to dish soap you found worked best?

I bought a stiff brush and it worked much much better. I’ll eventually have to post an update. As for the ratio, I don’t have an exact ratio but it’s heavily towards the baking soda, I just add enough soap to get a thick paste. Probably something like 10:1

If I ever get this I will use it for dry cooking only. Like fries, egg rolls, wontons, bread, cookies etc. it looks nasty when it’s dirty. I would end up throwing it out :(

itll still spread the grease, thats the point of an air fryer.

The stainless steel basket and grill: why mess about, soak in diluted bleach/water for a few min then use non-stick safe scrubber, or a even a stronger sponge - steel can take it. I have a Hysapientia 24L oven and last night I deemed it impossible to clean, and it's irritating to see all these great photos manufacturer shoes having it stuffed with things, oil and splatter must be going everywhere! Then they "wipe the interior"? give me a break. For stubborn stains they say make a paste out of baking soda and water - doesn't work!! What does is a tough scrubber sponge, maybe one suitable for non stick pans, I don't know why they don't recommend to use those? It's a stainless steel interior. The cleaning nightmare is the biggest omission manufacturers make, feels like a scam because honestly it's too hard to clean. Might as well not bother, let the fat stains stick like f. I just use a small frying pan and stick it inside the oven. I guess we'll eventually perfect it, a great air frying oven with dual capabilities, without a cleaning nightmare.

Man my regular oven has never looked that dirty , here is much better cleaning solution . Don’t wait every few months to clean it so many parts can go in a dishwasher clean them if used once a week .

I'm confused. You speak about 'soaking' but I saw no evidence of any soaking. Rinsing is not soaking. To soak something you must immerse the thing in water for some time. A plug in the sink works well for that!

    • @everythingbutpasta
      @everythingbutpasta  9 місяців тому

I believe I mentioned that I usually soak them, but forgot to this time. I usually do plug the sink and let them sit for 10 minutes or so

OH no, I absolutely love my oven and use it all the time and don't really have a problem with cleaning it, I hardly ever use my big oven any more and this neat little over does not heat up my kitchen so here in TX it is a real life saver in the summer when we are having over 100 degree weather and it is a challenge to keep the house cool.
