DEEP CLEANING MY BREVILLE SMART OVEN AIR FRYER PRO - BEFORE AND AFTER PLUS TIPS AND TRICKS

- Tips and tricks to clean your Breville Smart Over Air Fryer Pro. I like to deep clean my Breville Air Fryer every few months as it can get a lot of buildup after regular use in air frying, baking, roasting, toasting delicious meals, especially the grill, air fryer basket and oven door window. Cleaning is a part of having any appliance but this air fryer has a lot of parts that need special attention and I will show you a few different techniques that I used, and let you know which ones worked best.

I appreciate your sharing things that didn't work as well as you'd hoped. It eliminates the things one wonders about.
Glad you found it helpful
Okay, so that was really informative, and just in time. I was just today looking at my relatively new oven and thought it was due for a cleaning. Looks like I'll follow your procedure to the letter. Good stuff. Thanks for putting the effort in.
Hope it helps!!
When I bought my first replacement Breville Smart Oven I just started using parchment paper under everything in the new one. It solved the problem & a year later & my oven still looks brand new. Side note, my first Breville lasted 6 years with extensive use (probably used it at least three times a day, every day). This thing is a BEAST!!
Yes I just love the breville!! I use it every day
Did you use parchment paper instead of foil in the crumb tray?
Just put the parchment paper under the food. Also, crumpling the paper makes it easy to place and shape.
I can't remember when I purchased mine but probably just over a year ago and it really is a beast. I hardly turn my big oven on anymore. I have the pro version so it has the air fryer and we just put a silpat mat on the bottom and I clean that every 6-8 weeks instead!
Do you use punched parchment paper or regular ones ? And which brand you recommend?
I appreciate you being honest as to which areas in the oven won't be clean as it can be hard to get into those tight small spaces to reach. It still looks a whole lot better than before. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the demonstration 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Trouble is - at the end it still looks less-then-clean. All those dark/black stains all over the oven's internals. I do love this oven, use it more than once a day on average - but Breville really messed up the design in making it almost impossible to clean - a fatal design flaw I say.
I clean it within the limits of the construction but I agree, that is a flaw
I cleaned mine Breville ( Sage in the UK ) yesterday and I agree, it's not easy. Not helped by the black interior either. I had to keep putting the light on. Managed to get it really clean, apart from around the fan. I have had mine for nearly 5 years now and whilst I love it and use it daily. I'm on the look out for something as good but easier to maintain. I do use an oven liner on the drip tray to keep it as clean as possible.
@@roseanderson8527 I totally agree - and I too look for alternatives like you do, but so far bupkis 🤷🏻♂
Portable steamers help quite a bit and actually they need to have a nonstick surface. That is safe something like a ceramic.
Use a light amount of easy off.
I cut a non-stick oven liner in the bottom. I used to use the foil in my open but now use this. So much better
That's a great idea!
Does this work with the basket?
I put my air fry basket and the shelf in my dishwasher often. I have learned to clean the grease catch pan after air frying. I use baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap to get really cooked on grease.
I have always found the air fryer basket to get rusted after dishwashing so I avoid that but if it works for you, then much easier for cleanup. The shelves I’ve put in the dishwasher in the past, but can’t remember if I liked how clean they got
I clean after each use, as I don’t like seeing my kitchen dirty. But thanks for baking soda and dish soap, will definitely use that going forward.
Glad you got something out of the video!
Same! It has to be cleaned at least once a week
To make things easier just whip it with damp cloth each time after you cooked food and of course after it cooled down. Get few microfibre cloth for it.
That’s another way to do it
Thank you for showing us this great cleaning idea.. I will try it, I do use the foil on the bottom too and keep my very clean but the inside it very bad. I will try your method. Thanks again
Hope it helps!
It is help your baking soda and dish soap recipe it looks clean and shinny now! 🤩
Love hearing that!!!
I still have problems gettin off the grease buildup after using Dawn power wash. Tried using the baking powder and dish liquid but still had problems. Any suggestions?
Honestly Easy Off works really good on the wire racks and basket.
Thanks for sharing! I haven’t tried that yet
The manufacturer doesn't say why you shouldn't use aluminum foil so here is why, lining an oven with foil increases the intensity of heat on oven surfaces that can lead to surface damage like scratching or chipping on the porcelain finish and damage to heating elements.
Lining the bottom with foil is at your own risk. I can only speak to the benefit it provides for cleanup
@@everythingbutpasta Yep, that's why I included the reason why here.
@@annacatherinesendgikoski1965 If the time saved amounts to several times more than I'd spend working to just buy a new oven in the first place?
That's when it's pretty worth it to me. Maybe something other than foil would be less risky? I wonder if there are any alternatives that won't ignite at the ovens high end temperatures...
@@Raishin7 Even silicone pads will melt at some of these Temps after a prolonged period of use!
I use a roasting pan on stove top bring water just over the rack to boil then I put some baking soda to water the grease bubbles off. I also clean my over the stove fan filters the same way
Thanks for sharing!
Hi - very good video. I like how you showed methods that didn’t work so well (I.e., scotch brite pad on the mesh), so others can just avoid wasting their time with those.
I saw you used a toothbrush; I tried a copper scrub pad, but had better luck with a stiff nylon brush. You don’t have Dollar Tree in Canada (maybe Dollarama?) but I found a Quickie brand brush which I used. It dislodged more (but not quite all) of the stuck-in food bits and grease
Just curious what ratio of baking soda to dish soap you found worked best?
Also you look a LOT like my niece (actually my cousin’s daughter). 😊
I bought a stiff brush and it worked much much better. I’ll eventually have to post an update. As for the ratio, I don’t have an exact ratio but it’s heavily towards the baking soda, I just add enough soap to get a thick paste. Probably something like 10:1
I scrub the heating elements with a soft Brillo I use simple green or purple power. They are durable and I have not had any issues.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks
Glad you liked it
Thanks for the cleaning demo!
I’m thinking of getting one, but my current air fryer parts are washable in the dishwasher.
Can’t believe the Breville parts are not dishwasher safe. Yikes 😬
Thé grills and other accessories are dishwasher safe (I wouldn’t put the basket in though as it seems to oxidize) but things like the inside and glass aren’t for obvious reasons. I just prefer to clean it by hand instead
@@everythingbutpasta thank you for the tips!
I wasn’t thinking the whole unit would be dishwasher safe but the air fryer basket at least. What a bummer. I just found this in the user manual “To extend the life of your accessories, we do not recommend that these be placed in the dishwasher.” 😞
Sad for such an expensive unit.
I had really wanted one since it has room for a 9x13. Would be really nice for a spare oven when I want to roast veggies and the main course at different temps.
Glad I found out before ordering the unit.
Thanks again for sharing your experience!
Oven cleaner is the best at disolving the grease
Thanks for sharing
After soaking, Add lemon juice to the soap-baking soda mix. The acid activates the soda. Works much better.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you. I watched again and see the glass being cleaned. Just before 3.20 in the video you say there is something you do not clean because you don't want to break anything, but I cannot tell what that word is. I think you say you clean the bars, upper and lower, but what is it you avoid please?
The heating coils and the coverings around them (I sometimes do the coverings super super carefully, but never the heating coils)
any countertop oven is so hard to clean.... you can get around the elements....I use the foil on the bottom and if I've cooked something greasy/splashy I clean it immediately after the oven has cooled... this way I can pretty much keep it looking halfway decent all the time
Yes it takes constant cleaning to keep it looking good
Trick- I use this for microwave too-put a small oven safe container with a few drops of dish soap & water in the oven, or a bit of vinegar & water. Turn the oven on maybe 300 degrees & run for maybe 10 minutes til water is boiling. Let sit with door shut for 2 minutes then wipe out entire oven & accessory racks etc. Also racks & accessories are dishwasher safe
Thanks for sharing!
I wonder if heating up a container of vinegar might help to get all the grease build up, similar to cleaning a microwave.
I haven’t tried that but if you do, let me know how it goes!
I soak my racks and air fryer basket in hot water with a little powder dish detergent (I got mine from Dollar Tree). Saw this hack somewhere and boy! does it work. Don't let them soak too long as it might discolor the racks. I even use this hack to clean my oven racks by putting them in the bathtub!
Soaking helps for sure! Sometimes if I have time, I do that!
Mine is a hand me down and it needs such a deep clean! Nothing is coming off 😭😭 I’ve tried this method too 😭😭
Hopefully you were able to at least reduce some of the dirt and over repetitive cleanings it will improve
One of the grill plate says "do not use food that drips while cooking". Is that harmful for the oven? I did that one time
I will put a tray in the lower rack to catch drips when I have something like that in the air fryer basket. I find that helps keep things clean
Good tips, but I would DEFINITELY unplug the oven before diving in!
Great tip! Safety first
Did you have to buy your air fryer basket separately because mine didn’t come with one?
Not all models are air fryers.
It could be your model wasn’t an air fryer. Mine came with 1 basket, but I later purchased a 3 pack so now I have 4
How do you clean the fan?
I go over the grate carefully but don’t clean the fan itself
so mine just broke...this is my third...the cooking elements glass tube breaks on each at about 2 year mark. im probably getting another but need to figure out how to protect those elements from drips etc when cooking especially air frying. these are expensive to replace every 2 years. breville discounted my first 2 replacements. this time not so much. its a known issue.
I’ll keep an eye out for mine. I’m at roughly 2 years of owning
I don’t think you are supposed to cook drippy food in it
You can cover a lower rack with foil or oven liner while cooking drippy food. They do advise it on the autopilot recipes.
I just clean my equipment after each use.....
That’s a great habit
I do mine every time I use it
In my ideal life I would do that too
Foil can set alight! It's not safe so close to the heating element. If it burns your house will be filled with a very toxic gas!❤
As I mention, I do not endorse or recommend it for others
I clean mine between uses, but still can get gunky on the sides
That’s a great strategy
Man my regular oven has never looked that dirty , here is much better cleaning solution . Don’t wait every few months to clean it so many parts can go in a dishwasher clean them if used once a week .
I suggest you UNPLUG electric appliances before cleaning to avoid possibility of electrical shock
That’s a good safety tip
Magic eraser works better than anything
I haven’t tried that method
How am I supposed to clean that fan? Caked on oils
You aren't. Leave it alone. That smush is not grease but polymerased fats. In other words, it's now a plastic. Just like the nonstick coating created on a cast iron skillet. It won't burn, it won't disappear and it won't go away without caustic chemicals or abrasives.
green side of that sponge will leave lot of swirl mark
Thanks for sharing
If I ever get this I will use it for dry cooking only. Like fries, egg rolls, wontons, bread, cookies etc. it looks nasty when it’s dirty. I would end up throwing it out :(
itll still spread the grease, thats the point of an air fryer.
Good luck - I find no matter what I cook, eventually it gets dirty
How did you clean the glass? This is not shown. What did you use on the bars? You don't seem to have filmed, or you edited out, the most difficult portions of the job.
I clean thé glass with the baking sofa and dish soap mix that I talk about in the video. It works like a charm!
I cannot get the glass clean because it is dirty between the inner glass and outer. Does anyone else have this problem?
I thought you're not supposed to put foil on the bottom tray. we have a silicone mat there instead.
I do warn in the video it’s not recommended by the manufacturer. I however don’t see it as any different than the metal pan, so for me, it’s a risk I’m willing to take. I have done it with a silpat in the past but over time it got very dark so I prefer the tinfoil method. Do at your own risk though
@@everythingbutpasta right after I posted the comment you literally said that. I was a second to early.
Lol no worries ;)
@@everythingbutpasta I think the reason the mfgr doesn't want foil inside is the chance of it coming in contact with the elements. Sorry, maybe that's a known. I use it, and think it helps reflect heat up, helping brown toast. I think I'm going to try it without, and also with a black "liner". The liner is suppose to clean real easy.
we have a silicone pad on ours as well and it works great, I just take it out and clean it off as I use the oven and it works great!!!
Mine is cleaned after every use and still SMOKES and sets off alarms.
Are you sure it’s smoke and not steam?
@@everythingbutpasta Thank you, and yes it’s certainly smoke. When I tip the unit forward , liquid grease drips out of the feet of the unit. I emphasize again, I clean the unit thoroughly EACH time I use it.
Steel wool that's the answer
With a metal wire brush ty ma'am
Thanks for sharing
I'm confused. You speak about 'soaking' but I saw no evidence of any soaking. Rinsing is not soaking. To soak something you must immerse the thing in water for some time. A plug in the sink works well for that!
I believe I mentioned that I usually soak them, but forgot to this time. I usually do plug the sink and let them sit for 10 minutes or so
@@everythingbutpasta 👍🏻
Turn off the oven before cleaning ❤
Definitely!
Not that easy actually… I am not a big fan of this oven due to its difficulty for cleaning.
OH no, I absolutely love my oven and use it all the time and don't really have a problem with cleaning it, I hardly ever use my big oven any more and this neat little over does not heat up my kitchen so here in TX it is a real life saver in the summer when we are having over 100 degree weather and it is a challenge to keep the house cool.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Sorry but background music was too loud and annoying.
music is too loud and annoying
Omg what happened ? Let me guess… you were away for 2 months and left hubby in charge of the kitchen? 😂
😅
I'm sorry, but who lets their oven get that dirty? We clean ours at least once a day when using.
I think daily oven cleaning is not something realistic for me or many others but luckily everyone gets to do it their own way
@@everythingbutpasta Very diplomatic response.
