I’m with you Cathy, I wash my air fryer once it’s cool, so it’s ready for the next time. I also use the Dawn Power Wash, it really works great.
At first I thought the Dawn Powerwash was a gimmick…but I love it. Works like a charm.
Same with a scrub daddy.
Same. Pour grease out in an old pickle jar, let cool a bit, and spray with Power Wash. After a short time, a soft sponge is all I need after that.

I love your channel. I bought a Cosori and have been using for three years. My Foodie community loves you advice and your channel. Thanks for the hack-advice.
Thank you!
Cathy, do you have a list of instructions about using air fryers? I would certainly like to have this list or hear your instruction talk! Thank you.
Thank you, thank you for being so concerned about all of that grease going down the drain. Not only is it bad for the drains, it's terrible for the environment.
Have a septic tank? Grease floats, and it will go into your leach field and ruin it!
And where does it go when you wipe it up with a paper towel? In the garbage to the landfill... still bad for the environment? Hurts absolutely nothing and goes to basically the same place either way lol
@@JustinGrosz water treatment is not the same as landfills
@@seamus4A well thanks for that tid bit of info I already knew.
I clean it everytime I use it and it is so easy.the grease goes off without even scrubbing.
Easy....peassy.....lol
I wash it like I do my dishes, get grease out like you did, and wash in sink. Use scrub brush for tray in bottom. Guess I don't see why it's so hard and tricky for people. Lol.
Totally agree! Clean after you are done everytime
Great tips Cathy, it is way better to wipe the grease out first.
Not only the cost, but the dishwasher tabs are harsher on the coating, if you're going to use a tab you may as well just toss in dishwasher, which I don't think they are rated for.
Cosori basket is dishwasher safe. However when I do put it in the DW, I do wipe out grease and crumbs.
I’ve found that when you use oil to cook - even in a non-stick air frier or wok, frying pan etc, and try to wash the ‘washable’ non-stick pans there is always some residual oil/grease on the non-stick surface… So, what I do, like yourself, is remove as much as I can with paper towels and bin-it - so it does not go down the drain… Then I use liquid dish-wash soap (in the UK our No1 product is ‘Fairy Liquid’), and scrub lightly with soft scouring pad and a tiny bit of water… I then rinse in hot water and wipe around, and as if by magic, it’s clean, and no surface grease/oil left… I then leave to mostly dry off on the drainer, and give it a quick wipe before putting away…simples…😊
Can tell you from personal experience, boiling soapy water on a non stick surface, (pots & pans) leaves a soapy smell even after being thoroughly rinsed. Plus you can taste the soap the next time you cook in that pan. The soap absorbs into to non stick surface when you boil it. Just boil water only for really stuck on food. Then follow up with power wash. Never boil soap in non stick surfaces.
I agree But show us a video on the best way to clean the top burner of the air fryer do you recommend removing the burner to clean it? we also have the casori.
It's incredible how people can complicate things when they're actually very simple. Thanks for the test
I have used sprays of power wash and sometimes the next time I use the fryer I smell the soap! Even though I felt I have rinsed well. So I've had to use less pumps. Thx for video!
FryAway Pan Fry Cooking Oil Solidifier works really good, I have tried it and it does solidfy the grease.
It's well worth using
I learned about dawn power wash from you. I do EXACTLY what you do - wipe out as much grease as I can and then I hit it with power wash.
I do love your videos! They are entertaining and I can tell you work very hard at it along with taking care of your family. I just bought the Cosori 5.8 qt. and I love it. With your help I ‘m sure I can make some delicious meals. Just a tip, I use the dawn powerwash also but it is expensive. I saw this on another channel. Add 1 inch of dawn to an empty powerwash bottle. Add 1 tablespoon of alcohol and fill with water. If it will not spray, squeeze the bottle when putting the sprayer back on and get all the air out. Works just as good !😊
Hi Cathy!!! I always soak my AF after I use it. Sometimes it will not come as clean as I like it.The grate is the worst. I take a old toothbrush to it. I don't have a dishwasher so...never tried the tabs. Thanks for showing us all this. Great video my sweet friend!!!...
If you don't want to continually use papertowels, just scoop out grease and bits with a spatula and tap off in the garbage. Or depending on what it came from, into a dish for flavouring and oiling something else.
Thank you Cathy for another very informative vid.
I have the Cosori 5.8 quart, and find it so hard to clean the fan inside at the top. Any tips?
It is very very easy to clean, first wipe grease off with paper towel, then just wash it with normal detergent with warm water and a sponge, and rinse. take less than 5 minutes for 7 L Cosori. Not sure why people made it more complicated then it is. 🧐🧐🧐🧐
Lots of people don't clean their air fryers inbetween uses... More people are nasty than you'd think.
I was just watching your video and when you asked Alexa to set a timer for 10 minutes, mine did as well. LOL Also, I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to put all that grease down your drain. There's absolutely no way I would do that either! I'll just stick with cleaning my air fryer after every use with Dawn Power Wash!
I use Dawn Platinum Spray wipe it with paper towels then rinse and some Dawn if necessary. I also use foil sheets from the $ Tree with anything that produces grease on the AF bottom.
I'm always conserened about hearing chemicals so this.methos doesn't require anything but a few squirts. ❤ Hard and fast tip 😂No body cleans the AF but me
Another great video. Thank you!
After sticky stuff find it best to use the dishwasher powder or sprinkle bicarb, vinegar, detergent, kettle boiled water soak it 5 minutes and it scrubs up good. Our coating has been coming off on all models we have had. I use the non scratch scrubbers.
Girl.. 👋 I know why not to dump the grease down the kitchen sink/Drain.. Please explain to those who don't.
Question .. How expensive are paper towels by yr area? I like to use a kitchen brush for scrubbing after soaked in dawn / hot water for 20 mins.. No wetting yr hands/nails (manicures are expensive too), I dump the water on plants I hv growing in the garden (don't waste water- expensive too)... I air dry my air flyer/ plate on a chair outside the terrace...Just my process and thoughts.. love watching yr channel 💕💅👋
I have the dual blaze. I actually have 2! After dinner, the pots are cool, so I just put a pump of dawn and fill the drawer 1/2 to 3/4 full with hot water . I keep the rack in (you can wipe up any grease first, if you like). Then I walk away! Either later, or usually the next morning, it all washes right off. I may have to use the blue part of the sponge - or not. Voila. It’s so easy to clean. No big deal😀
Easy peasy!
Dawn Power Wash worked good. A vinegar bath couldn't hurt on a neglected fryer like the one that was given to me.
A lot of people have the mistaken belief that because Dawn dissolves grease it's ok to put down the drain but once it gets into the drain it reconceals. Re cleaning my PowerXL I spritz the fryer with Dawn Power spray before we eat--literally takes one second. Fill with hot water while I'm cleaning up to get a bit of soak, then clean with a paper towel and rinse.
I agree clean when done or if cooled down heat up again and clean 👍
Thanks for trying those hacks out. Btw…..love your channel!
Thanks Debbie!
Agreed! Clean after every - mostly every - use. I do sometimes forget until next use. Funny thing happened at my home while watching this video - my Alexa set a 10 minute timer along with your instruction. Shook me up when it went off.
I tried using the dishwasher as advertised by my air fryer manufacturers instructions (Corsori and Duronic) on the second to hottest setting. The fryer plate and basket had some grease but not excessive amounts. (paper towel wiped off firstly). All that seemed to happen was the grease was more evenly distributed and more engrained/baked in after the steam drying cycle. We are on a water meter and we try to use as little water as possible (hence dishwasher with full load). Have you experienced similar with the Dishwasher method?
Thank you Cathy. 🤗💕
🤗
Totally agree with your method.
Soaking overnight in soapy water should ALWAYS be the first thing, then go from there. You would be pleasantly surprised at just how well an overnight soak works. And by the way, your dishwasher is NOT A GARBAGE can. The better you treat it the fewer repair bills you will have. TheReaper!
So. What I do is when I am finished with my air fryer and still warm, I wipe out all the grease out then put it in the sink and put a few drops of dawn and then fill it with hot tap water and let it sit while I eat, then spray wash it up and if there is any residue I lightly wash it with a soft cloth. Works great for me, but I will try the dawn power spray next time.
This probably the second youtube comment I’ve posted in 10 years…. But you’re hilarious 😂 love it!
I wash my air fryer every time right away after I use it. I never let it sit. And I use Dawn platinum. So easy to Clean.
You made my Alexa set a timer for 10 minutes. 🤣😅😂 I'm not sure why I find that so funny, but she was given to me as a gift and I rarely use it.
I really enjoy watching your channel. I've learned so much about my air fryer. Love your family, too.
Thank you, I just love Dawn power wash❤
After wiping the grease off with a paper towel and then I just put a little Dawn i it, add water, let soak for a few minutes and it's clean! No muss, no fuss
Easy!
I just rinse after each use get rid if excess grease and place both pieces in the dishwasher works great
Love the hacks it works
I pour oatmeal into the bacon grease. Let it soak it up and wipe it out. I feed it to the birds. I then use plan Dawn to wash it out. I found the power wash is heavily scented.
Amen girl! Wipe it out all the grease out first don’t put that stuff down your drain absolutely nonsense to do that, I have no idea what’s going on with these people don’t be down grease down there drain! Eventually, all that grease will get clogged up in your pipe overtime. It will clump up when it gets cold. People don’t do that ! I totally agree with you. Do not do that. Great video like always ! 🥰👩🏾🦲😍
I watched all your vids, especially cleaning. My biggest problem that I have huge hands (single father) and what I never get really clean is the part around the heating spiral/element and underneath in my Ninja Air Fryer.
Do you think the thing with the soapy water, would at least lower that problem? I tried spray for an ofen once, but it seemed to be aggressive for the spiral
Cleaning out the baskets is so easy, but the heating element and the stuff around it is a nightmare! Any tips for a Philips Air fryer? So hard to get inbetween the metal :/
Also joining in with others on the praise: no grease no oil in the drain, thank you for repeating that for everyone!
I cleaned my old Phillips air fryer forever ago in this video - ua-cam.com/video/0e_9qxFWI18/v-deo.html
Here’s a great hack and works just as good as down power wash if not better use 4 oz of regular dawn platinum dish soap rest water and 1 teaspoon alcohol in your power wash bottle give a good shake and done saves tons of money one large 90 oz bottle will make around 22 refills from a 90oz bottle.
You have to use a dish rag or something to clean you have to wipe and rub a little. It want clean itself. Put some elbow rub into the final cleaning it works.
That’s not to say water can’t be added to the basket - 1-2 tablespoons can be added prior to cooking to maintain moisture. This small amount of water would essentially evaporate and turn to steam. Adding a small amount of water can also help contain any fatty drippings, which reduces smoke because it doesn’t burn to the base. Consequently, your kitchen won’t fill with that horrible smell and this makes clean-up easier too.
But, you cannot boil or steam in a traditional air fryer. These appliances are designed as convection ovens and the inside cannot reach a high enough temperature to boil the water - that’s why raw rice grains are one of the things you should never put in an air fryer. The vents on your air fryer will also release any steam produced, so this too is counterproductive. Essentially, adding more than a couple of tablespoons of water to your air fryer is a big no-no. If you google it....tells you all over the internet.
Thank you. I went back and pour out the water. I fried it about 5 minutes empty and rinsed the tray out and now it looks good.
Immediately empty your grease after cooking into a tin can and set aside to cool and solidify then dispose into trash when can is full. Wipe down air fryer with paper towels while it's hot, cleans easy but be careful not to burn yourself.
I like to put the can in the fridge because it solidifies faster.
Your are so right, all that far down your drains just goes on to cause fatbergs, which is the same as an iceberg, and in the UK we have people that spend there life cutting into fatbergs that block drains and sewers. I always use paper towels to mope up the grease.
Hi I live in the UK, what is the Dawn equivalent product. There is so much out there, thanks for the video. I agree about the grease it can be costly having them unblocked 😁
In other comments they mention Fairy
Loved this video. Can you tell me where you purchased the cabinet door pod holder?
Amazon! amzn.to/3TDPEF5
And 10 minutes later, my Alexa tells me the timer is done lol
🤣🤣🤣
So your the one. I was watching your video and had to go to the door. About 10 minutes later a timer went off on my Echo.
Couldn’t figure out why a timer was set until I went back and watched this video again where you told Alexa to set a 10 minute timer. Trouble maker!😂😂😂
That's hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣
THANKS!!!
You're welcome!
I am with you, keep grease out of your drain. It only takes a moment to wipe out the grease before using the powerwash!
This is just crazy! I pump some dish detergent and fill it half full with hot water and let it sit (after I wipe grease out). When I pass by the kitchen I wash it out with a sponge. Voila! So so so easy!
I wipe any grease out when it's cool enough, then I put it in the dishwasher. It's too hard for me to wrangle it in my small-ish sink. I always wipe the inside real good too. Not a big deal since I keep it clean.
I have a new 4L airfryer what size parchment sheets do I need to buy
What about grease etc inside the A-F like the coils?
It seems too many people think it’s too hard to use a little elbow grease to clean their Air Fryer. A couple of sprays of Dawn Powerwash, a couple of minutes to lit it sit and wash and rinse it in no time. I have the small Cosori that your kids have and it is awesome for one person. It even says you can put it in the dishwasher.
One question I had was when do you use the fryer with and without the removable plate within the basket.
Most often I don't use the tray with the Cosori Dual Blaze.... unless I'm doing fries or small items that I especially want the air flow to crisp up.
The Cosori manual says not to run the machine with liquid in the drawer, so I'm pretty wary of the first one, I don't think steaming the element can be a good idea either...
I've never needed to do more than a big squirt of Fairy (our Equivalent to Dawn), tip a kettle fill of boiling water into the drawer which is sitting on a silicone trivet on the counter and letting it sit before scrubbing. And yeah, don't be tipping grease down the drain! Honestly half the 'hacks' I see are scary!
YOU MUST GET AND TRY A NINJA SPEEDI!!! Lifesaver!!! Thanks for your videos. Love!!!
Thank you! It's on my list to test out!
what is the difference between dawn dish soap and the power wash. I don't have the power wash but Dawn Platinum. Also I have a ninja oven and I do clean it but over time it has baked on grease that is hard to come off. Any suggestions?
Do you use the Dawn Platinum regularly instead of regular Dawn dish soap?
Yes
Awesome video
I got a great cleaning remedy for basket. I sprayed mine with a little olive oil. I let it sit for about 1/2 hour. I used a small scrub brush that I use for dishes and guess what grease is gone. Not only that but basket has been treated with oil and it is moisturized. I thought about it for a while. Old iron skillets are cleaned with oils so why not air fryer basket. No electric needed. Just let sut with olive oil.
I like your apron. Is it from amazon?
I got excited when I saw the topic of today's video but it turned out to be 'whoa is me.' I just assumed you would be discussing how to clean the heating-element area of an AF. That area gets so gunky it is more than a tad disgusting. I'm even wondering if a build up of grease would eventually become a fire risk. ??? If nothing else, it certainly wouldn't be good for the appliance itself. Most of us have probably figured out our favorite way of cleaning the tray and basket (especially after your video). Those TikTok methods were a bit scary... good for the local plumber though. 🙂
First time viewer of your videos and I'm hooked! Dawn Power Wash is on my grocery list .... can you tell me where to purchase those super soft velvety washcloths? I have been looking for those for years ..... thanks so much!
you can get them on Amazon! Here's a link: amzn.to/47P44ZW
So sweet of you to respond .... thanks so much!
Agree…pouring grease down the drain is insane. They charged $700 now to snake the drain professionally at one of my rentals. Not worth that.
In my experience (I have several rentals,) it’s mainly younger, inexperienced people who have no clue they should NOT be dumping grease down the kitchen sink.
Just realised I've watched all your videos and never gave a thumbs up 🙄😜was inspired to get the Cosori dual 😏in Scotland we like a healthy meal too
I wash my Airfryer and Speedi after every cooking with soap and water. If I have a load to go the tray goes in the dishwasher. Dawn Powerwash is the bomb!
I don’t understand why they’re making it more complicated! LOL But a QUESTION please? I adore the Cosori Dual Blaze, though the Cosori before it was quite nice. (Love not pre-heating or flipping, and cleaning is much easier.)
But about the crisper tray-do you ever cook without it? I don’t see the need when making something like potatoes/onions/smoked beef sausage. I do for making a chicken or reheating pizza for air circulation. What about a bunch of veggies? What do you do and think? Thanks!
Agreed it’s a simple process, clean it every time with a couple drops of dawn and some hot water . and wipe down the inside and outside .
@@gratefultammy really! If there’s quite a bit of gunk-and there rarely is-I use Dawn Powerwash and let it sit for a few minutes. My go to is a Scotch-Brite No-Scratch Scrub Sponge. (Had to look up the name.)
I most often do NOT use the grate... pretty much only for french fries!
@@empoweredcooks Thank you! I'd love if in a future video you made a couple dishes with and without the grate (better name than crisper).
hello from UK!!... Please can you show us how to make popcorn without oil or very minimum oil in the airfryer... Thank you!! xx
I made air fryer popcorn forever ago in this video- ua-cam.com/video/Oqpn0bOEsnA/v-deo.html
@@empoweredcooks Thank you so much! didn't the popcorn stick to the top of the inside? xx
It's been so long since I've made this recipe that I can't remember, haha!
I use the Dawn Power Wash too and I thought it was common knowledge that you shouldn't put grease down the drain. Guess not.
Found you on UA-cam and have been bingewatching. Bought the cosori 5,5l. It will arrive tomorrow. I'm so exited! Thank you for your honest info. Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you for all you do!! I love your channel, your cookbook, your recipes, but tried this to clean my air fryer... Didn't hurt mine, but if you google it, it tells you never to run your air fryer with water...can ruin it. Just thought you might want to check.
I'm going to get some Dawn Powerwash!!
I use the dishwasher on my dual blaze
Clean it by hand, using far less energy and far less water. Dishwasher tabs contain all sorts stuff you don't want to get on your hands, I know U.S.A loves to use power and water, but in Europe we tend to do things without resorting to power and lots of water. Love your videos thanks for many great tips
I have the 5.6q Cosori with the basket that has side slits in it. I'm finding there to be residue building up in the tough to reach slits. How do I get that out bc it's not easy to get in there to clean.
Have you tried Q tips or an old toothbrush?
Someone said small paintbrush, another said hair dye brush, or narrow bottle brush- Amazon and lakeside sell sets of different sized brushes- bamboo skewers or wooden or sturdy coffee stirrers can push towel into tight spots or toothbrush
Leave the air fryer running when you leave the house,
heck no!!!😱😱😱😱
yeah i couldn't do that
Our air fryer has metal shelves and baskets. Ours looks like a toaster oven they're simple to clean after they cool. Then it's ready to use the next day. I always wipe the grease out of the pan and if there's too much to wipe I pour it into Old empty glass jars to be thrown away. Never down my drain🐞 Namaste 🥰
Plumbers will be busy if people are pouring all that grease down their drains. They will definitely have job security. Lol
I thought everyone knew never to pour any type of oil or grease down the drain. My Mom taught me that when I started cooking at 12.
I was always taught that if the grease was still liquid when it was cool, it could go down the drain, but if it cools into a solid, it can't go down the drain.
I have a Dash 2 Quart already peeling after 5 months replacement too they are junk stay away. PS all I ever use to clean is water, soap liquid, and soft sponge. It even safe to eat food out of it now?
Those dish washer tabs are super strong and can ruin your non-stick surface. If you don't want to wipe out the gunk then use a silicone spatula and scrape it into the trash. After wiping out, Hot water, soap and my silicone scrub brush is all I need.
We have the ninja oven and the baked on brown grease marks just will not come off. Any suggestions please?
what's the issue with grease going down the drain? does it cause clogs?
Yes!!
Also, Grease?
Pour it out while it's hot. I recycle it anyway instead of cooking spray or vegetable oil. Chicken fat makes great fries or potato wedges. Dry off your wings, put them in your mixing bowl with some chicken fat and stir with the cook spoon...makes your powdered flavorings stick and you get crispy wings.
Maybe the TikToke Mensa candidates have a tip or two for cleaning clogged drains?
Please u can write the name of cleaner u use
I clean it easily. Have a plastic garbage bag in the garbage can. Throw in some paper towels. When the grease/oil has cooled a little, I pour it over the paper towels.
Take out a trivet. Put the entire unit on top of the trivet. Let cool a little bit. I pour in some dish soap. Then I use the hose on my sink and spray the hot water from the faucet into the pan and insert. Then I leave and let it soak until ... usually hours later for I am busy doing more fun things. When it is time to clean, I just use a sponge and warm water. Everything comes off easily. I let it air dry and do more fun stuff! Painless and effective!
The difference with dishwasher detergent it has enzymes to eat away proteins and fats whereas dish soap does not. Can be good way to clean especially dirty dishes, also works on toilets.
If you’re not harvesting your bacon grease for future use we can’t be friends. 😂
🤣
I wash as I go. There is no way I’ll fill my fryer with a wasted water level and if my husband saw me wash grease down the drain well we’d be tested our eternal goals.
anytume i use dawn....no matter how much i rinse it, it still smells like soap when i start cooking and then my food tastes like soap . does the dawn power wash have this problem?
Interesting, I have never experienced this! Maybe do a dry run to dry it afterwards?
Many say yes
Cathy would you please bleep out the word Alexa, whenever you use your echo? My echo set a ten-minute timer. Still loved the video.
Yea that was funny cuz my Alexa also set a timer.
🤣🤣🤣
Haha you just put a 10 min timer on my Alexa! I am with you, clean out excess grease with paper towels, then clean!
🤣🤣🤣
