I have a honda civic eg 92 hatch. I have the same problem but I replace a new head unit. But I encountered the same problem again. After 15 to 20 mins driving the cold air and fan shuts down automatically, both fan and the AC. I have to push random buttons to make the ac and fan work again but then again it shuts down randomly.
I love the idea of this vid. It really helps.

I'm still debating whether I want to do this repair or pull the climate control box, open it up, and solder the broken joints,I just did that with the speedometer on my 85 Civic.

solder the joints, that is the correct fix.

Why did you have to bypass the thermocouple?

Thank you for this. I didn't want to buy another climate control just to possibly have the same issue.

    • @SailingKitabu

Turns out the issue can be corrected by resoldering the contacts on the circuit board for the AC switch. They fail but don't look bad, they develop micro cracks. Resoldering the board may fix it.

You saved me so much grief. Problem solved with my compressor not kicking in during charging. A suggestion for removing the three screws would be to remove the console right below it. Using an 8" long phillips, with a slim handle, this will be much easier. How can i repay you? Do you have a patreon? I'm serious.
Edit: I installed a lighted switch, but i can't get the wiring right. It lights on in the off position, and off in the on positon. It has 3 prongs, one for the green wire, one for the red/blue, and one ground.

Green is ground, usually. Your thanks is enough but josephpseraphin@gmail.com is my paypal.

Here's a video of replacing brake shoes on the 92-95 civic. I used to struggle for hours with those springs and this technique I came up with takes under 10 minutes. ua-cam.com/video/svF_xoLlcLw/v-deo.html
