Song: A Dustland Fairytale
Album: Day and Age
Lyrics
Dustland fairytale beginin
Just another white trash
County kiss
Sixty one
Long brown hair and foolish eyes
Look just like you gone into some
Kind of slick chrome american prince
A blue jean serenade
Moon river what'd you do to be
But i don't believe you
Some cinderella in a party dress but
She was looking for a night gown
I saw the devil warping up his hands
Hes getting ready for the show down
I saw the minute that i turn away
I got my money on a pond tonight
Change came in disguised of revelation
Set his soul on fire
She said she'd always knew he'd come around
And the decades disappear like sinking
Ships we persevere god gives us hope
But we still fear
We don't know
The mind is poison castle in the sky
Sit stranded vandalized
The draw bridge is closing
Some cinderella in a party dress but
She was looking for a night gown
I saw the devil warping up his hands
Hes getting ready for the show down
I saw the ending were they turned the page
I threw my money and i ran away
Strait to the vally of the great divide
And were the dreams roll high
And were the wind dont blow
Out here the good girls die
And the sky wont snow
Out here the bird don't sing
Out here the field don't grow
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the good girls die
Now cinderella don't you go to sleep
Its such a bitter form of refuge
Ahh don't you know the kingdoms under siege
And everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in sixty-one
In the of the cadence in the young mans eyes
And were the dreams roll high
This song tells the story of how Flowers' mother and father met when they were both aged 15 and living on the same trailer park." Given that his mother has cancer, the lyrics make pretty much sense.
Now cinderella don't you go to sleep
Its such a bitter form of refuge
Ahh don't you know the kingdoms under siege
And everybody needs you
Damn, thanks. Sorry I’m 12 years late
I love this song so much my favorite Killers song, and I LOVE them
I always used to thought it was about breakfast at Tiffany’s, but never looked it up or anything to see what it was actually about. Makes better sense though now.
And here I was thinking it was about the outsiders
One of the most underrated songs of the 2000s
"God gives us hope...
but we still fear what we don't know,
your mind is poisoned"
*-Best line ever*
i cried to this song too. unbelievably beautiful
"and the decades disappear, like sinking ships we persevere, God gives us hope.. but we still fear what we don't know, your mind is poisoned"
My first girlfriend got me this cd as a gift because she knew it was my favorite band. This was her favorite song.
I love that she opened the CD before she gave it to me. I miss her.
The day and age album came out when I was 9 years old, and this was one of my favorite tracks off of the whole album, hell even my favorite killers song-then again the whole album is amazing. I was far too young to understand the lyrics, but they were poetically beautiful. And then when I was around 14 or 15, I looked up the meaning behind the lyrics-that the young couple who meet and fall in love and age together are actually Brandon’s parents and that last verse is him begging his mom not to leave him, that everyone needs her, which makes the lyrics all the more relatable, but even then the interpretation of the lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways. And the mind is poison in this case is Brandon’s mom’s brain cancer-but it can also be interpreted as Alzeheimer’s or dementia in other cases. This song is amazing live, by the way.
I think the mind is poison goes with the sentence before.
We still fear what, we don't know, the mind is poison.
Fear of death, fear of losing people, fear of everything, it's all in the mind.
Bit late to the show but you summed it up perfectly, what a song, what a band and on my bucket list to see them
and the music video too! amazing
Still listening to The Killers in 2022 with as much delight. They're just awesome.
Went on a 5 day move as a kid and had limited songs on my moms I-tunes, I listened to this on repeat for who knows how long and it’s really does flick a switch in my brain lmao, even besides the weird nostalgia, and his is an awesome song and my music taste now is superb. Oui oui lol
i cried to this song
Almost every time
I love when songs can touch your heart. Music is timeless.
The moment I heard this live I'll never forget. Insane ❤️
every one of their songs can put me in the greatest mood.
Now that my grandma passed away this song hits way harder than before.
THIS REMINDS ME OF MY DAYS IN THE NAVY
Same except I wasn’t a squid, I’m not that smart. I remember me and a few other Marines used to listen to this while working. It somehow really resonated with us.
It’s been too long since I’ve last heard this song
just amazing! they're one of the most talented bands out there.
To me I completely lost my faith in God, my peace has come back. Good things are happening now and I've been listening to this song, and I've noticed the lyrics about God and the devil.
This song should be at least 6 Min length, deserves an Extended Version !
NOW CINDERELLA DONT TOUCH GO TO SLEEP! Love that part
Hard to believe that Brandon Flowers (the youngest member of the Killers) is now more than 40 years old...
@0Megaman0 Lately every time this song comes up in my play list and he gets to the lyrics "out here the good girls die..." I get the urge to cry, like that feeling in your stomach before the tears where someone's grabbed a vital organ and just pulled downwards.
I believe he wrote this song for his mother who died from cancer, so I think that's why the song gets to me, hearing the lyrics and thinking of a son mourning his mother and just wanting her back
"Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep".
i think that spaceman and a dustland fairytale are the best songs!
I am nearly there with you.
For me at least this song is so underrated
Sweet voice,nice melody, excellent arrangement,andBrandon'svoice
It’s certainly up there alongside Mr Brightside. For me it has the edge.
love this song!
..I saw the devil warping up his hands...
How do you interpret this line?
Out where the dreams all hide

biggest KILLERS fan in the UK ..........lol me n rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lass
We should probably be friends. Im a huge killers fan.
Definitely. New stuff is waaaay more mature (musically), and they realize the world is more than just women, unlike in hot fuss.
Well, hot fuss did deal with a guy murdering his girlfriend and getting interrogated for it, a man dealing from the fallout of an affair, and a critique on the shallow people of the upper class, so I wouldn’t exactly say that their old stuff wasn’t as mature as their new stuff.
This song gives me chill bumps but they peak at 2:15
i totaly agree with u..
they're talking about vegas. "and where the dreams roll high, where the wind don't blow, out here the good girls die and the sky won't snow."
well, they're talking of vegas then.
No, it was about his mom's cancer
I LOVE THIS SONG I HAVE HEARD IT ON LIFE AS A ZOMBIE 3!!!!!!
amazing song with a btilliant video :)
brandon flowers, overly fit
the killers are quailty
@ItsCoreyLynxxYall thats what i love about this song

....but she was looking for a night gown....
CAPOLAVORO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
simply ♥
What a fucking song
New stuff>old stuff
This song is a single now
yeah i agrreee
.... In a party dress....
i watched this music video before trying to follow the storyline but the greaser guys in the fight look so identical i can't figure out who gets killed and then the rest of the story confuses me x__x like who's who? gahhh
the way the talk about the guy looks or sounds like me
I always thought of Steve rogers and Peggy carter when I hear this song
@Flash239 I dunno... Day and Age has nothing on Hot Fuss. But that's just my opinion. I guess I'm a Hot Fuss Era Killers fan, like this girl, and like most people I know too. Still good songs, just not the same awesomeness as the old stuff.
Good song and all, but is it just me or is it really sad?
well thats a good song too.
but spaceman is the awesomest!
Is this picture moving, may be an eye illusion. I like it :D
i disagree there new stuff is good but there old stuff is way better but this song is probably there best new song
Where is my prince charming
Nah the 2 best songs are Human everyone agrees with that and Spaceman.
@HiddePoel now another two have gone deaf, it's quite sad really...
Beats JLS and whoever else any day ^-^
...I saw the ending were they turned the page...
@NakedCreep ARE YOU FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA?
@Russman21 Come to Victoria melbourne mate. ill find you. i can smell killers fans ;)
iTs "he looked just like youd want him too some kind of slick chrome american prince" not "looks like you gone into..."

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!
You've never met me
@xXblythe I hate those guys too.
@Russman21 because you've never met me
@NakedCreep 'Cause you said hella, so you're either from California, or a poser. I'm from Southern California, and we know things. We know. XD
