    “I don’t shine if you don’t shine” that lyric came to me this week as I was struggling with my upcoming graduation with a masters. My daughter who loved The Killers passed away a year and a half ago at 26. I don’t want all this attention because she didn’t get much fanfare for her pandemic graduation. But I feel like I got her permission with this song. Love you Lin - I’ll shine so you can shine

      +mrsuns10 I guess it's up to interpretation. When you listen to the lyrics "You say you want to move on, you say I'm falling behind" and "I got the green light, I got a little fight, I'm gonna turn this thing around", it sounds very much like coming to terms that a relationship is breaking. Maybe it's not necessarily a breakup song, but it could be interpreted as a post fight song. I dunno. It's just gorgeous.

    • @riaunderwater
      @riaunderwater 8 років тому +4

      +ellzedd41 I can definitely see that point of view! Like I said, I totally see it both ways. I can see how it is the end of the road- a couple that had their ups and downs and despite being over, he's reminiscing and giving ode to the relationship. Maybe he's replaying the high points of the relationship, when it ended and what he should have said/done in that moment. However, what you said is very strong. Like I said, I can see it being up to interpretation. That's the beautiful thing about Brandon Flower's songwriting- it makes you feel things you didn't know were capable of being felt by using a complexly beautiful set of words.

    The song “Read My Mind” by The Killers explores themes of longing, introspection, and the desire for connection. The lyrics depict a sense of restlessness and a yearning for something more than the current circumstances.
    The protagonist seems to be stuck in a small town (“two-star town”) and feels like they’re falling behind while others are moving on. They express a desire for change and a determination to break free from their current situation (“I never really gave up on breakin’ out of this two-star town”).
    Throughout the song, there’s a plea for understanding and connection, as well as a sense of vulnerability. Lines like “Can you read my mind?” and “Before you go, can you read my mind?” suggest a longing for someone to truly understand them and their feelings.
    The references to “the good old days,” “the restless heart,” and “the Promised Land” evoke nostalgia and a sense of longing for a better, more fulfilling life. The mention of a “teenage queen,” “loaded gun,” and “drop dead dream” suggests a sense of danger and excitement associated with youth and ambition.
    The chorus, “Oh well, I don’t mind if you don’t mind / ‘Cause I don’t shine if you don’t shine,” underscores the importance of mutual support and understanding in relationships.
    Overall, “Read My Mind” explores themes of longing, nostalgia, and the search for meaning and connection in life. It’s a song that speaks to the universal human experience of yearning for something more, whether it’s personal fulfillment, understanding, or companionship.

    ガチャピンやん!って日本人なら誰でも知っているようなマスコットキャラをMVに登場させてて、初めて見た時はおもしろいと思った。
    もちろん歌もキラーズの中では僕のお気に入りの曲です

    I watched this video for so many times imagining myself walking in Japan. And finally, this summer my dream came true. Japan was as incredible as I had always thought it would be. Yet another dream came true a few days ago when I went to the Killers' concert for the first time in my life. A great show. I guess I told my past self never to give up on her dreams even if they seemed unrealistic then. And that girl listened to me.)

      brings me back to my senior year in high school. I only had dial up at home and had to listen to new music at school. Imagine how great I felt when I finally bought the CD and could blast it at full volume instead of shitty headphones at school

    I went here because Rose of Blackpink sang this. This is a GREAT song. I love this original version.🥰
