Hey just letting you all know I've got the sequel video out now! Covers the corrections in this pinned comment and an entire new iceberg image! ua-cam.com/video/8K1vnRNqIG8/v-deo.html (Original comment) Alright, gonna make a pinned comment of corrections you have all found so far. I appreciate the kind comments and support! Plague Knight’s cheat code walk cycle references Alucard, not Richter. There’s a fish head reference in Rivals of Aether. Accountant Knight is likely referring to a scrapped character named “Donator Knight”. “Super Skeleton is the Worst” does refer to placeholder text, specifically from the Shovel Knight beta before fighting Specter Knight. Shield Knight dies could also be referring to an old story concept where Shovel Knight was going to bury his dead wife by the end of the game. King Knight is the first knight has opened up the can of worms that is the Shovel Knight timeline. Needless to say it gets complicated when you look at things such as Specter’s curio usage in King of Cards, Teethalon, the Joustus Cards and the Dark Acolyte.
The dark acolyte thing can be explained very easily I don't remember when, but there's a cutscene where we see more than 2 toupple acolytes So there are just more Also, another thing I find interesting is phantom striker's ending cutscene in showdown Just watch it for yourself and you'll understand
"Shield Knight dies" is probably a reference to an ending of the game that was scrapped early in development, where Shield Knight was going to die, and then the player would have to bury her with the shovel. I believe it's mentioned in the interview at the end of the art book.
I think I remember hearing about that in a Did You Know Gaming video a long time ago. Will have to go check that and the art book. Thank you for the correction!
The dialogue in the King knight fight in specter of torment shows that specter is not there to recruit him but to “get him back on schedule” meaning he’d actually been recruited a bit before you see him, meaning he could actually be anywhere on the timeline of knights recruited
HELLO !!!! THIS SHOVEL KNIGHT ICEBERG IS AWESOME!!! I believe that "Accountant Knight: at 17:25 could actually be referring to Donator Knight, a scrapped shopkeeper npc with a similar visor to Treasure Knight that can be found on page 142 in the Shovel Knight artbook or somewhere on SK's kickstarter page!
Additionally, "Super Skeleton is the Worst" being placeholder dialogue is true! YCG showed off old builds of Shovel of Hope in a stream for SK's 5th anniversary: ua-cam.com/video/vjGRTBZSt08/v-deo.html the dialogue can be found 19 minutes into this video.
Shield knight dying next to SK also makes no sense since 2 things: 1. Canonicaly she is alive in Pocket Dungeon. 2. Thematicaly it makes zero sense. Like SK can get dark but that would be just plain out cruel and morbid
pocket dungeon takes place during shovel of hope according to yacht club, her being alive during the events of that game don't mean much because of that, it's still a pretty silly theory though
@@snailymitch wait how? Like how does that make sense at all? If it is during Shovel of Hope why are Plague and Mona already openly in a relationship, why are SK and Black Knight and SK on good terms, how if Shield Knight there at all, did they all just lose their memory after escape?
@@obitosenju3768 i havent played too much puzzlers pack but afaik theres no indication that mona is in a relationship with plague, just that theyre close like during the first half of PoS (before percy takes over). Shield knight is seperate from the enchantress presumably for the same reasons shes seperate during showdown. And since everyone is just trying to escape the pocket dungeon and shield knight is doing fine theres not much reason for conflict between shovel and black knight, theres p much a truce between all the knights since everyone just wants out (which is why you can interact with the order members). Its still a pretty messy fit though timeline wise even for shovel knight standards.
24:31 The scrapped moon level could have also been a reference to Final Fantasy IV, as a plot point is the party traveling to one of the Earth’s two moons at the end of the game. This is potentially relevant since Giga Cardia is a pretty obvious Final Fantasy homage and is listed as being a compromise for the moon level in the same excerpt. She has a dynamic yet static boss sprite resembling the bosses seen in the 16 bit FFs, alongside her utilizing elemental crystals, which were used as macguffins in many Final Fantasy games (heck, part of the Moon portion in FFIV is that the moon has its *own set* of elemental crystals.) If the original moon plan involved Cardia, she could have been originally trying to recruit King Knight to save her people on the moon rather than another planet.
iirc I read somewhere years ago Kardia was *also* based on Culex specifically, who in and of himself is an FF IV reference. I have no source and my memory is dogshit so, could just be a false memory my dumbass brain conjured.
hey this is a really awesome video! Some small things that you could maybe mention in your addendum video in rivals of aether shovel knights helmet falls off for one of his taunts, revealing that he is also a fishhead Plague knights walk cycle cheat is actually an homage to Alucard from symphony of the night And french is real! the country may not be there but propeller says french words like; petite, magnifique and his signature en garde in the pre boss dialogue(researching this I also found that propeller denies having any kind of rivals in his dialoge with specter) if you do make a new video could you also clarify the time between dig and specter of torment? I am not sure what you mean about the timeline in the 2 week segment. one final note is that specter knights boss fight curios in king of cards is conducive of the theorized boss order if king knight is already part of the order before his specter of torment boss fight. as the plains boss in king of cards his curios show that he’s beaten black knight, plague, propeller, and polar. in his second boss fight he is shown to have beaten phantom striker.
All great suggestions that will go into the addendum! Although I will clarify now that the entry for “The Order of No Quarter lasted two weeks” has nothing to do with Dig. It just means that once fully formed with all 8 members it only lasted around 10 days due to Shovel Knight starting his adventure pretty much immediately after Specter of Torment as seen in Showdown. Also the thing with Specter Knight’s curios in King of Cards will be talked about as that does contradict Specter of Torment where it is implied King Knight is already working for the Enchantress. Edit, grammar
Ok but much more importantly than the curios thing, SoT starts with King Knight already in the order, and the whole campaign is about recruiting knights. Shovel Knight himself used relics he shouldn't be able to in Plague of Shadows, so it goes to show that that's not really the kind of detail that matters
Great video! I thought I knew a lot about these games because of how many times I’ve gone through them over the years, but there was a lot of content in this iceberg I never knew about, so good job!
FINALLY AN ICEBERG FOR ME!!!! ✨ (As you can probably tell…) In all seriousness by far the greatest indie game I’ve ever played, so I was waiting very patiently for this… (I’m already learning!! That’s so neat about the fairy glade!! That’s so cool I never knew this existed!!)
Maybe one day. I’m not in the biggest rush to remake these two videos as I have other things I want to make first. But once stuff from the announcements like the dlcs and DX release, that’ll warrant a return. :)
I always tear up a bit when i remember what could have been. It should have been Tinker Knight, Mole Knight and Treasure Knight who should have won the contest to make a campaign on.
Great iceberg mate Here's some extra stuff if you ever do a part 2 Terrorpin was going to be in Shovel of Hope with Black Knight, but he was scrapped. This could because Pig Hog was scrapped. The Shovel Trio has more questions, as in Black Knight's bio, it says that Shovel Knight has no idea who Black Knight is and why he is he is fighting him. Art of many characters gender swap versions that weren't swap exist, such as the wandering travelers and even Donovan (renamed Donnavan) Tinker Knight and Plague Knight are friends, or at least are well allies Plague Knight name change from Dyna Knight was due to the more medieval setting of the game. Polar Knight is based on a Yacht Club Game developer, Nick Wozniak
17:25 Treasure Knight was recruited as the Order of No Quarter’s secretary/accountant. So maybe he’s Accountant Knight as you previously said. 18:19 Also, here’s some extra evidence for Plague Knight being a bird. His staff/cane thingie has a bird head on it. Also, the two Arcana’s connected to the staff, the Staff of Surging and the Staff of Striking, have a bird feather as their icon. Theory: Maybe Mole Knight has diffrent gloves/gauntlets for doing different tasks? Maybe he uses his 3-fingered gloves for combat and work, and his 5-fingered gloves for more complex tasks? They ARE detachable. 20:43 I think King Pridemoor refers to King Knight as son/my boy because he’s dating King Knight’s mom.
Firstly, it's Alucard's walk cycle not Richter's. But also comparing Mr hat to Kirby is way off when he's really more on the same power level as Taskmaster.
First, I have gotten many responses talking about that walk cycle reference. I know. It’s in the second video I made don’t worry. That second point, yeah fair enough. The comparison is surface level and the power scaling is in completely different ball parks. I think it’s mostly due to both Mr. Hat and Kirby having their copy abilities illustrated through hats.
So in regards to the “Accountant Knight” and “Princess McGuffin” entries, there’s a bit more to both. For the Accountant Knight entry it might actually be referring to a character that only appeared on the Kickstarter page, a sort of… well, ACCOUNTANT looking Knight who appears on the “why Kickstarter” section. The character’s actual name seems to be ‘Donator Knight’ as his only two existing sprites (to our knowledge anyways) seem to refer to him by that name. The first sprite is found on the Kickstarter page, but a second can be found in the Treasure Trove: All Art Dump the devs released relatively recently. I forget which file specifically, but it’s in a lineup with the other characters for scale. And on the topic of that Art Dump, Princess McGuffin has a more finalized version of her sprite in there too that featured a lot more detail (highlights, better shading, two large ribbons, the whole shebang). It leads to the idea that she made it a little further into development than we initially thought (if only a little bit further). There’s actually a fair amount of revelatory stuff in the art dump too, plenty of older sprites for Knights, environments, and other characters. A simpler Beta Black Knight that has more spikes, multiple Trouple Acolytes that represent different apples, a handful of cut enemies, ect. If anyone wants to you can check em out too so long as you’ve got a program that can open FLC files. I also posted some of the better finds in the ‘DiscOrder of No Quarter’ community in their ‘sprites-and-assets’ section if you wanna check them out there.
I do have that art dump downloaded already and have been combing through that for anything interesting. Honestly might talk about that as like a bonus entry. There’s sprites of Treasure Knight’s helmet separated from his body implying it was supposed to fall off when defeated. Just gotta find a program that can run FLC files to check those out too.
28:21 Actually, when you think about it, Plague Knight was more rigged than King Knight. Because Plague Knight campaign was said to basically be a backstory to Plague Knight, but of course that didn't happen, and given many like Plague Knight and possibly voted for him to know more about him (similar to Specter Knight, who won the poll), it's possible that Plague Knight wouldn't have got as many vote if the story was the same as what we got. But that's just a theory (plus Polar Knight got 7th place in the vote, so it wouldn't have matter as much)
My thoughts on two of these entries. 7:39 I always thought that was garlic. Huh. 18:50 This whole situation reminds me of something that was prevalent in early Mega Man games. The devs were a Japanese group, and 4 in Japanese is associated with death due to sounding similar in the language, so they made the characters have four fingers and glued the middle two together so that they have three. Maybe something similar happens with Mole Knight as an homage?
About Super Skeleton is the worst: Yacht Club Games made a stream for one of the game's anniversaries (like 2-3 years ago) and showed bits from an early build of the game. "Super Skeleton is the worst" is actually what Shovel Knight says to Specter to taunt him or something. It was a great laugh really. Due to that stream and that specific situation now the Shovel Knight speedrun Discord has a Super Skeleton HAHAHA emoji. EDIT: Actually it is right here. Shovel Knight's 5th anniversary, clip 6: ua-cam.com/video/vjGRTBZSt08/v-deo.htmlsi=wPB6L_-RP-zAIjIl&t=1132
I think the accountant knight is a joke because at the end of specter knights ending he is show being the one paying the minions so he is the accountant of the order of no quauter
Just adding that in the second video I made, I cover the accountant knight entry in more detail and how it relates to the original kickstarter campaign.
Already 2 minutes in and you missed an important detail, in rivals of aether if you press special and parry during the start up of your taunt his helmet will fall off revealing fish head

Poor mole knight never got his bread
He would've gotten his bread if he got a campaign.
Shovel Knight: Mole of Bread
21:10 This is actually super apparent on the 3DS version, and it made the game look super cool when the 3D slider was on.
SHOVEL KNIGHT SWEEEPPPPP
Percy probably just does what the deer from adventure time does. Wear little false hopes over his creepy fingers
I think Mole knight just upgraded to a Blorb esq armor after the events of dig, given he was still called mole knight even with an aquatic armor
