Am I the only one who likes the looks of the civic type R?
It's hot af
Looks like a 4 year olds hot wheels car to me🤷🏻♂️
No!
@@wilfordthe4th422 that's the best kind of car
Yes, hatchbacks are gay. I only ever see balding fat men driving them.
Everytime I see this on the road I fall in love. Im gonna have this car, mark my words!!
Ari Lynn God Bless
Its ugly but the only reason i want one is the performance.
alright already marked
@Jim Jones u need some water
how you doing now? Close or far from getting it or do you already have it?
"The Type R is a cornering machine!"
*every other car channel*
"Let's drag race the FWD Type R against all these AWD and RWD cars and see how slow it is!"
I honestly fell in love with the car because of the exterior design.
Scytheric I saw it near my gym tonight and holy shit , no car has never caught my eye so quick.
@@brandoncortez5669 I know right? I need one lmao
Looks like a Subaru, literally Honda copied The STI look and shaped it to fit a Honda badge and style... I still prefer the DC5 body style. That's the king of the hatches.
Fake vents and cheap plastic???
@@ushio1087 leaves you in the dust?
The 'looks' is the main reason why I've bought this car. How can the 10th gen body design not be the best so far? It's beastly, angry, aerodynamic, edgy, futuristic, and unique at the same time... It's simply amazing. Of all the sports cars in this range, I'd rate this as my 10/10 fav.
I bought my Type R about a month and a half ago. I've owned an Acura Integra (I treated that poor thing like a rented mule), Acura and Lexus SUVs, a few Subarus (WRX & STi), an Audi (S4 Avant), a Mazda Miata, a Chevy Volt, etc...and I have NEVER been so satisfied with a car purchase. Your video is on the money and had me smiling and laughing the whole time (particularly the segment on the infotainment system). Yes....the car has its quirks and at 51 years old I may look like a poster child for a mid-life crisis hotline while I'm driving it, but who cares? It's fast, fun and hugely rewarding, due to the near telepathic experience it delivers via the sublime handling, shifting, steering, and braking feel it offers. I look forward to driving it EVERY time I hop in. What a great car.
Dave Cech why not a 1970 boss 302
Can't agree more
Dave Cech I'm 53 love my German sports cars and I think the type R looks awesome. My teenage sons are trying to dissuade me from it saying it won't suit my age but i think it's down to teens being less adventurous these days.
@@supersurfer1 I can guarantee that if you buy it, the next thing you will be doing is hiding the keys from your sons! ;-)
Well said
I went to the honda service yesterday. while i was waiting, i took a peek on the showroom, and holy shit. There's a dark gray type r and i tell you, I spent almost half an hour staring at this thing. Ive never seen such a sexy car in my life.
I have a 2019 Type R and I totally agree - it’s one fantastic drivers machine.
Personally I like it’s crazy looks - it is a Civic Type R after all :)
Lately, ive been kinda regretting not buying a type R a year ago. I got the Si Coupe instead....not that I dont love it but I long to have the Type R now.
I think it looks really good....
What about car washes with the wing? Any issues with the rotating front brush?
@@brianmccarthy714 I did it once with mine and had no issue. The guy did call his boss to ask confirmation though so be cautious anyway and ask the guy (if any) just to make sure.
Hi Jinder. What about the comment of a "harsh" ride in the city? I have a Honda Accord and a weekend car that is way, way too far to the track mode to be tolerable in the city. I'm hoping to trade in the Accord for the Civic Type R and "split the difference," that is, have an everyday drive that performs to an acceptable level of "fun." What's your take, my friend?
Finally 2 guys that love driving and not the luxury creature comfort ! The Type R is for people that love having fun driving and not for people that want cars that can park itself.
😢 you have brought a new meaning of cars to me, I can see clearly now
This Type R 100% asian Design.. for me it looks so gorgeous.
Duh... its a Honda......
@@Ncha1ned doesn't necessarily mean it's an asian design
IT IS AN ASIAN DESIGN INDEED. JAPANESE ENGINEERS AND JAPANESE DESIGNER 100 %. Something that MOST White people cannot appreciate. BUT I'm actually surprised because there's a LOT of White people owned and drive this in our Type R group. I think they just admire and respect Japanese designs or just a real Sports car people in general.
Still too overstilled
@@joanna6866 maybe! But i saw that on the streets danggg that car is very handsome. Like me!
I own the 2018 type R with 7,500 mi and I absolutely love it. It destroys cars on the corner, stops on a dime, and has a very good amount of power. Not to mention, car just looks mean. I would say this was a very good review of the type R, especially in regards to its performance. People forget, the spoiler on the Civic type R is actually functional. At 123 MPH, you are getting 67 foot pounds of downforce. I have had the car up to 148 MPH and it was glued.
Absolutely, you don't even know your doing 150 until you look at the speedo lol. It's such a smooth stable car on the highway.
@@cybercityoedo808 lol it's insane!
I own a 2019 CTR and I'm still watching reviews on this car.
I love this car.

@@smoothflying great car. It's perfect. Funnest easiest and smoothest driving experience for what it is and all the power it has. Front wheel drive is the only con but 95% of the time you hardly notice it
Me too... bought it 2017.. 2020 still watch the review.. 😂😂😂
Damn right it's a good car! I got a 2017 and it's the best manual car I've ever owned
I'll say it again. There are a small handful of car-related UA-cam channels that I feel are just next-level in terms of the host's talent and communication ability, as well as the editing and production quality. Donut Media, Doug Demuro, Jay Leno, anything with Chris Harris, and Throttle House. They all have 1M+ subs. I HAVE to imagine you're next once the masses catch wind of your most recent videos. Keep it up. Currently the only channel I subscribe too.
I'd suggest taking a look at TheStraightPipes as well. I watch everyone of those channels as well and they are near the top of my list.
Marshal Beard whoa whoa where’s Savagegeese??? He’s the only one who really appeals to the enthusiasts with the amount of detail about the true mechanics of the car with a little bit of humor 😂

SAVE THE MANUALS!
But idk how to drive manuals and I'll never learn since I will screw up the transmission. Which means I cant have this car.

Whirling Music try an older car. I bought a 2002 Civic lx and I have killed that things more times then I could count. I started with that car and it’s still running. A year later and I’m still learning a whole bunch with the same car. Start with a cheaper car and manual transmissions are much more cheaper then automatic transmissions. You’ll get it dude
You guys at Throttle House as well as Jakob and Yuri, and Mark, and a few others sold this car for me. And now I want to say thank you!
I love my Type-R, my commute home from work is about 4km but I take the long way around town every single day because I absolutely love driving it. Not to mention you cannot take this car outside without getting a handful of thumbs ups and compliments. It’s so fast too, I would not want any other car. Great review!
If literally anybody else ended a video with “long live the hot hatch” I would’ve scoffed. That was glorious.
This is the probably the BEST Type R review I have watched. Of all the Type R reviews, you have probably notch it up with the ending. So cinematic, it does justice to this GREAT car.
watching your videos like reading last pages of lotr trilogy or harry potter books, returning to real life after xx:xx amount of time is hard and i get that feeling i lost smthng makes me happy and dont know what to do. thank god your videos hopefully will never end :)
I don’t find it ugly. I think Honda truly let the designers go, and that’s awesome. It could have a few less fake events but it’s still awesome.
Fugliest car of the decade by a mile.
@@natelan69420 Are you really that stupid? Have you never seen a Pontiac Aztec? PT cruiser? HHR? Get out of here.

alex martens to me, what’s more important is the performance and no doubt this car is a beast
Marmotiux Marmol That’s like saying you will marry an ugly girl just because she is a great cook. 🤨
I own one and I agree. At first the looks were a bit much but after driving it I can’t imagine it looking any other way. It fits its personality perfectly. Great video guys! ❤️👍👌
"I don't know how else it could look when it drives like this. It'd be lying to itself if it looked any different." This perfectly sums up the exterior styling.
Agreed!
I've had my Type R for 2 years now. Once it shredded the OEM tires I fitted 255/35 R20 Kumo. No more spinning when launching anymore. I get a little chubby when I drive it now. What an awesome car...
I own one so there's my bias but James said it the best way once you drive it you can never imagine the type R looking different its just not possible.

Same. Is there an aftermarket bumper or something? What the hell were they thinking?
just bought a left over 2018 for 5000 off sticker last week. I was looking at an SI but i couldnt walk away from the deal. Loving it so far. there is still a red 18 left in the show room if anyone wants the location and info.
Ayy I got one in black, thx m8
@@jonathanacosta7509 congrats! you liking it.?
You said it... that's why I bought mine in black. Lol.
I bought a red one two months ago after my stg 3 ST got wrecked a few days before moving to LA from Chicago. I intended to buy a civic to drive for a few months then trade in. But the dealer was pulling an R in when I got there, and I'm stupid. So I bought it after two years of hating on its looks. The car is two months old and has 7000 miles on it now, and I live in the land of canyon roads. I will say this to everyone that has ever talked shit about this car, for any reason... and I was one of you:
You have no idea.
It is the best hot hatch ever produced. It's the best 4 cylinder ever produced. It's one of the best all around cars ever produced. It's FAST. Honda quoted whp, not crank hp, it utterly owns RS's and 370z's from rolls. And then... I've hauled a 9 ft long sectional couch home from Ikea in it. The hatch is mammoth. It's so totally usable still. It's like taking your worked track car to work every day but also having the minivan... and that's what makes it special! It's the king of its class sure, but somehow it's also the king of practicality too! What in the actual shit said I, proud ST owner... the ST interior was so much smaller and the hatch so much smaller and all around it was just less functional by a significant margin. It's faster than any stockish STI, Golf, Ford, or anything else even close to the segment reall... on the highway you win, period. On the track you win too because the thing handles like a dream... but whenn you start going to the store in it and throwing piles of shit in the back and you realize that someone finally combined the most practical daily driver with the most balls out badass hot hatch... wow.
Anyway. I rarely review stuff. But the type R is art. It's a masterpiece of a car for the everyman. It's a bit expensive, but when you realize you don't need a dd and this... yeah. My original intention was to trade it back in when I was done transitioning. This thing is with me for life. I liked my ST a lot, but the R is family.
Shane Carr how does the harshness of the suspension compare to the ST?
Lol we are in the same boat. Hated the looks for the longest time but ended up buying one Nov 1st 2018. Haven't looked back since.
I just bought one of these a couple of days ago. Best decision I have EVER made. I am never letting go of this beauty.
Loved the video guys. You both are hilarious, there’s been a couple videos (this one included) that I’ve genuinely LOLd while watching. I mean, full on laughing. 🤣
Picking up my 2019 in a few weeks... Can’t wait!!
Best reason to buy this car - having fun at track days. That is where this car excels!
True, and mod it with a body kit to get rid of the ugliness.
@@PWCDN no.
@@PWCDN get your eyes checked dude
The reason why all the gauges are red is to prevent extensive strain on your eyes. If you're gonna be seeing the tach a lot, might as well make it the color with the shortest wavelenght to make sure it doesn't stress the eyes and subtily adds to the pleasure of driving this car.
That's right, but imma physics nazi :D. Red colour has the longest wavelenegth, thus, the least frequency and energy of all Visible lights. :D
I agree with Thomas. Gray is the perfect color for the Type R.
You guys should do a video on "Why you should drive your cold hatch like a hot hatch". Basically talking about how driving enjoyment comes more from mindset than suspension tuning and power. People who are on a limited budget who end up in base model, 5 speed manual hatchbacks and economy cars can still really enjoy these cars by wringing them out everywhere they go. I had a base model, 1998 Nissan Frontier with a 5 speed manual, 2.4L 4 cylinder (detuned K24), regular cab short bed and every once in a while I would just rev it out to redline and take corners Miata style and for a $3,000 truck, it was loads of fun.
Thank you for this. I have the hatchback and not the type R
Daily driver of mine for over a year now and still loving every bit of it :)
did you ever compare it to the RS before you bought? that's what I've narrowed it down to.

Michael Steele I totally agree
I own the car as well and I think it looks amazing. People who hate on this car, just can't afford one and have never driven one.
I bought this car a week ago and i live it also poeple compliments on it alot .
Civic Type R owner here... the 2020 and up were improved in several ways: suspension, braking, cooling, some cosmetics... there's a write-up on the internet. This IS the most amazing car I had ever driven and I've driven pretty much everything out there. This is a mean, lean, wings of a dragon canyon carving machine! I love when the kids turn their heads, some even saying, "look mommy... that's the car i drive in the video game!". ;) A car that can brake from 70 - 0 in 140 ft! C8 Corvette... 148 ft! A Car that hits lateral G's @ 1.05 (this number is even higher on the +2020) ... C8 Corvette 1.02! A car that with just an off the shelf Hondata Tune and E30 Mix is 360 HP (no bolt-ons) and runs flawless! A Car that's just over 3k in weight. It turns heads among the young crowd about as much as an exotic car does. I've overtaken other cars on the ramp going around them -- it can literally take curves within the curves! The car is truly a masterpiece of physics. Sorry Golf R owners, but as much as I admire and truly respect the performance, I don't like my car to look like a loaf of bread ;)
Have you driven a Dodge Viper Gen 3? I love my Type R but kind of have the opportunity to try and trade up for a Viper... but not sure I should... I don't think I want a Viper unless it is the ACR... I have a video of me chasing a Viper on the track and if I had more power I would have kept up much better, handling wise I was right there and could be more aggressive with my corner exit. The Type R is incredible and I have done some amazing stuff on the track (and on the street) with mine.
I just got my 2020 updated type r with boost blue colore and real Corbin fiber in and out I paid around 67,000 in canada out of the door I know it was alot of money for a Honda name, but when I drive the car the felling you get makes the car worth every single penny to me . Thank you honda

Was going to chip it, add a titanium exhaust, racing pads, etc. but I have to save up for a volume knob instead.
Bone stock this car is a pure joy to drive and daily. Not fun to park with a large turning circle and low front lip. One of only two beefs.

The OEM tires attract more nails than a mani-pedi salon. And manage to convert at the earliest opportunity to racing slicks.
The price of greatness. Ante up.
took 2 of my mates out in this car today on the back roads and they both had big smiles, this thing is absolutely savage and grips like a mother f*&$!er in corners and bends
The fact stealerships are still charging 40 to 45k for this is really killing the hype
SavagexRaccoon why are people paying those prices, I wonder?

1990 to 1993 Honda Accords are still everywhere.
JN DSTY I used to have one of those for 10 years, until last year somebody stole it and stripped it. Otherwise it would still be working
I cross shopped all the hot hatches available at the moment. Ended up with a GTI. Ill always kinda regret not hunting down a Type R but the GTI is just a total package for me, like a tiny luxury car. Though if we had access to the i30 N / Elantra N over in the states, I would have bought that instead.
And with a couple mods and a tune it turns into a beast on stock turbo. Assuming you got a 2015+

Honda should bring back the Integra. Keep a similar design but modernize it and put the engine, suspension, transmission etc from the type r into it. All Honda needs to design is a new body because everything else they already made boom profits.

The only thing that bothers me is just the rear bumper, which has a bit too much fake vents. Even the civic sedan has a better rear bumper design. Other than that, I think I like it!

luv my 2019 Type R inside and out goes like the clappers.
One of the soon to be rare manual transmission car left. Type R will always hold value. Especially is Honda decides to stop productions. 20 years from now. It’ll still be worth $30k.
tigerbiterhater haha don’t know about 30k but it will hold great value
The Type R's Catch 22: Most appealing to 14 y/o boys and most affordable for 40 year olds. The venn diagram shows a less than optimal overlap between those who love it and those who can afford it. I'm reminded of a friend who purchased a Ferrari a few years ago. He said, "I bought it to attract women. Unfortunately, it mostly attracted 12 year old boys." :)
Which is why I love my Golf R. Looks like a regular Golf with nice wheels. Has all the performance of the Honda (but mine has AWD and dual clutch transmission) but doesn't at all scream "Look at me! I'm trying too hard to get some tail!"

MaxSpeed At least it’s well worth the $35k as a new car. You just gotta dodge the bs stealerships that tack on mark ups. Can’t say the same with other cars in the market with thousands of dollars worth of options.
@@SilverScarletSpider I hear ya
@bouchy85 congrats!
MaxSpeed I see them for $30k near me used with low miles. Affordable for the most part.
It looks so good
"Main" refers to Honda Sensing Cars. It's how you turn the Lane keeping and adaptive cruise control on and off. The reused the same wheel buttons I guess
