Thats kinda what happens to me when im at their concerts. I dont want to miss a single thing so i just stand there and pay extra attention. So its kinda hard to get hype when doing that. Oh and the music is just super mesmerizing.
Just incredible!!!! During the extended part at about 12:10 when Adam plays that solo which just sets up the whole ending and then after he is done they all jam hard together for a few seconds but just watch how godlike Danny becomes at about 12:35 until Maynard comes in, the camera closes in on him and I get goosebumps watching him. Holy shit he is amazing!
After several years of watching Danny Carey live, particularly in the 90's, I've come to my own conclusion that he's influenced by spirits. if you listen to his drumming and listen carefully particularly in his earlier years (1995-2001) it's obvious to me that humans cannot perform like that. He is literally perfect. I've listened to "H" live and at around 3:30 DC is playing 7 rhythms all simultaneously, and literally to perfection. Humans cannot do that. Danny claims to summon demons and Arch Angels in rituals before he performs (these are his own words) which explains the sacred geometry, The Enochian boards and the pentagrams and heptagrams in all of Tools concerts. DC claims to use them to banish or contain demons that were invoked before the performance. Sounds crazy but these are his words. I believe it's obvious when you listen to his drumming that he is influenced by higher powers. With that said though I believe he is the greatest drummer of all time, no question.
Derek, I couldn't agree more. He's the best rock drummer I've ever seen play live. I'm a guitarist, but I know world class when I see it, and Danny is certainly that. Gives me goosebumps too!
This man has an Angel and Devil Voice, he seems coming from 70s progressive great bands...His moves on stage are hypnotic... His silouhette in the Shadow... This band is so technically Perfect
I noticed the way he moved also. He mentioned doing yoga in an interview I saw recently, and I can tell by the silhouette of his postures/poses in this video that he definitely has body awareness. I think he must’ve been in his mid-late 40’s during this tour? +1 for yoga lol
no other Tool song tells a story so vividly and is so well constructed throughout the entirety of it's runtime. In my opinion, it doesn't get better than this. The death of EGO!
THIS IS THE GREATEST SONG WRITTEN IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC Third Eye Represents the ultimate climax of the themes of consciousness and the human experience that we see amongst their music/lyrics. What I have come to understand, is that this song is illustrative of a certain experience. Call it enlightenment or whatever, but I believe it is more specific: perhaps the most important experience a self-consciousness can undergo.
4:03 Always gives me goosebumps.. The amount of enjoyment watching this tour is amazing. I love the visual aspect of maynard's moves as he dances to the tempo of the song, smooth and artistic.
The crazy part is I’m pretty sure Maynard isn’t using anything to alter his voice during that inhuman screaming… 30 years later and they’re still the all around perfect band with one of the most expansive fan bases. People of all ages, races, countries, languages love this band. Tool is about as universal as math itself.
@@gravelrun4028 it sounds like the same effect he uses for Ticks&Leeches and Hooker as well. I would have guessed a kind of distortion. Thanks for the explanation
It amazes me this brilliant group of individuals don’t perform using a click. Their light guy said in an interview that they play so extremely tight every single show that there has never been any issues with the timing. Besides that, they have recorded some of the best lyrics and music in the history of music. I’m just upset I’m 43, and only became a fan after seeing them live last year. I missed so many years listening to shitty music that it’s sickening😣
sorry to be that guy but the lights are timed live by the light guy. It would absolutely imposibile to hit play on a 15 min light show and actually match up with their performance, no matter how good they are. So the light guy, or idk one of them has to keep tempo while tool are playing.
Holy crap, the build up between the first four "prying open my third eye" to the lady four at the end...so much better live than on the CD. I love when a few seconds after Maynard screams the last line, he looks at Danny and Danny nods at him like "fuck yeah, that felt great"...just an awesome band live.
***** dude, STP (the Wieland version, in my opinion the only version worth listening to), is really awesome live musically...they are a joy to watch, especially the DeLeo bro who is the guitarist. He totally stalks from Joe Perry but he has his own style that sits the music. Check them out on live from Chicago from a few years back, it's a great concert even if you only know their hits, the were like a jukebox on that tour.
I still can't get over the fact that they cut some "third eyes" from the ending whenever they do this live (or most of the times, I'm unaware of all the times they've played it). It's my favorite part of the song and I can't get enough of it. X)
I believe it's because it takes a lot out of Maynard's voice. There's a clip on here somewhere where his voice fails him a few "third eyes" short. This version here is my favorite by far
+J Bus yeah, that's probably the reason and I can understand that. It saddens me, though: to know I can't ever experience this song live in its original form, the same form that captivated me so deeply, but with the additional strength of the live show (I'll admit this live version is undeniably powerful!)
What really fascinates about this band, in most of the band, there is one person or two who are involved in song writing and creating riff but this band actually looks like an ultimate freedom for the members, play whatever is in your mind and they are sure it will be a masterpiece and we are sure we gonna get fucked really bad
Just goes to show what fantastic musicians they are. Glossed over the mistake and got back on track so quickly and with such class. Many wouldn’t even have noticed.
This video may be their best version of this song. Almost kinda even better than the Salival track... But lol there are 8 dislikes to this video haha omg those poor, distracted bastards!
He screams his fucking face off in the 90s versions. Check them out. And if you pay attention he gives DC how many fingers of “prying open my third eye” he’s gonna do.

I can attest to the opposite of this. Saw them at Aftershock 2019. It was as you said during Feat Inoculum, but as soon as Ænima hit, people were fucking *moving*
I seen them in Nashville in January 2020 and there were 2 younger guys, late teens or very early 20’s that sat in the row in front of us and they headbanged hard the entire show. With Tools different time signature changes I found it difficult to tap my foot and I totally understand how MJK moves like he did during earlier shows. It makes you want to sway, bob and weave. Awesome fuckn band to see live!

There's something about Maynard getting slightly more out of time with every repetition at the end, coupled with the distortion from his megaphone, that really makes the ending of the song almost better than the original.
I think this should've ended like aenima with the build up, just a sudden cut out, maynards vocals are cool but the instrumental they were doing was so awesome.
The crowd is the most Tool crowd I've ever seen, almost motionless just listening.
I’d probably be tearing up in the front of the crowd
When TOOL is playing you shut the f*ck up and spiral out
I saw them in Philly a couple years ago and everyone was just calmly watching in their seats. Never seen anything quite like it.

It was the same way in Tampa back in 2008. Can't wait to see them February 9th in Tampa again.
LOL at Maynard coming in early with the vocals!
Glad I'm not the only one to notice

Adam and Justin, just looked at each other and fixed it.

It's called an inward voice. Technique comes from beatbox, weirdly enough.
