holy guac I wasn't entering into a debate on it Holy, just advising people who thought it was new. I learnt these passing techniques and variations of them over 5 years ago from my coach who learnt them from his coach who learnt them from the Machado's. It's possible it's coming back into favour now in the competition scene because as Keenan points out, guys are trying to play certain guards now that this stops. As I said, great break down of it, Keenan always shows why he's one of the best.
The Tincat I don't know if this style of passing is new or not, but you taught me a new word - "learnt". Fuck that red wavy underline. It means nothing
it is pretty wicked concept. I've always been told that using your legs as ''hands'' is a key point in evolving in jiujitsu. This technique basically could be applied to many different games and passes
When you break the grip, transfer it to your other arm. Then take a step . More efficient. This is the Mario Sperry pass from like 1988. Seize that loose arm. Step through to knee on solar plexus.
I'm a 1 stipe white, but I watched this video ONCE, and the first time I tried it, it worked on a BROWN belt. I don't know if he was going easy on me, but he seemed surprised as shit when I landed in side mount. I even stood there for a minute after I pinned his leg because I couldn't remember which side to pass to. He was trapped for sure. GREAT VIDEO.
most often than not, the brown belt probably felt you did everything techically correct and let you have to pass, its more beneficial for you to let you pass, than him win that roll :)
As soon as I put my weight on his thigh and smashed it to the ground, he didn't have a choice. After that day, when I went for it on him, he always let got of the spider guard with whatever leg I tried to trap, and wiggled it around furiously. I felt like I could've still trapped it, but it was like a fish covered in soap and I wanted to try something different anyway. If he let me have it, it's the only one I got.
My friend Pete the Greek from Carlson Gracie use to show me this like 10 years ago he use to always step on the legs it is good It worked for me but haven't used it in a while. It is a little harder no gi.
+Flipper2425 i think you would be better served if you did the leg drag into an ouside heel hook ,ankle lock or toe hold . Just thinking out loud ,but i think that would be a nice set up to play around with .
+Mike B. I wanted to do the same thing but its just different styles. Honestly swinging into a leg lock from a leg drag off of this set up would work but would be a completely new video.
Lemme keep this a secret for the time being while some of these guard recoverers (inverters) try n figure out what it is i'm doing. The best guard player at my gym only had me pass his guard once in every 20 atempts so far, i do pass his guard more than that, but he always recovers
+Matheus Then your in the wrong sport. Muscles getting munted are all part of the game, if your not doing it to others they're just gonna do it to you and make your life (training life) much harder. Making people uncomfortable is the aim of the game
I love BJJ but I think the names they come up for stuff is really daft - Japanese names in Japanese jujitsu are instructional if translated back to English they are rarely analogies. Still its a case of needs must and who cares about a name right
dauitsone I don't care what language its in as long as its not named after anaolgiers, like "wrecking ball pass" - I mean that name tells you nothing abot the technique at all, but say "shoulder wheel throw" which is a judo move English translation makes a bit more sence
If you practice long enough, you remember what the names mean. I have no idea what a shoulder wheel throw is because I've never used that name. If I did use that name more it will make sense to me, but the English names are made to be memorable.
It doesn''t bother me all that much but I can see your point. I think a lot of it is that these moves are so complicated that an english explanatory name would be cumbersome
Morgothhhh BrunoBJJ This is what is truly beautiful about BJJ! The fact that what works - works, and we will all figure out what works with enough time and practice. I never saw Keenan do this pass, and he started doing it before me, which means that the two of us (and probably many more people out there) have starting using our feet from top [like a standing spiderguard] simply because it is so damn effective.
man with all respect i think that is too hard to maintain that balance with 2 feet on leg .... do the first movent only steping the leg is hard imagine this passing on ankle ....i like cause is an beautiful movement but i think that is not effective to me .... you have giant legs so maybe this makes eazyest sir
BRadvGames I agree. it's just an option. I really can't see this one being too effective. it leaves you open and imbalanced. on top of that, any decent practitioner will see where you're going with this from a mile away.

this is a high level pass designed for purple belt levels and up certain positions like this require great understandings of base and pressure like active posting ect which is why u see top guys having weird bases standing in matches at times
You know what's great about Keenan? He openly shows his techniques for everyone to see. Good guy Keenan.
It's called the wrecking ball pass due to its ability to wreck balls with one wrong step!
lol I was thinking the same thing
@@cfrancis I thought it was more like doing a roll-out over the person lol
It's not a new pass, it's been around for decades, but it is a very good one to know. Thank you for the nice break down instructional Keenan!
its new

holy guac new to you.

Rico Viera has been doing something like this for awhile now.. I love it! Nice to get different details from world class guys..
Great technique, thanks for sharing! Looking forward to trying it out on the scwirmy guard players!!
do not let keenan go viral this shit is bomb

No. I didn't "hold" him in side control, I "landed" in side control. He was out as soon as I went for the kimura
most often than not, the brown belt probably felt you did everything techically correct and let you have to pass, its more beneficial for you to let you pass, than him win that roll :)

Samson Moses it seems you're a genius
+Samson Moses im a 16 year old blue belt id eat you for lunch. browns definitely going easy.
All of your stuff is killer

I feel that the end of this video should have been "thug life'd" after keenan said no one has any defenses yet, lol.
I learned several new details, thanks a bunch!!
3:00 guy on the bottom is like, move the fuck up already!
Caio Terra showed me this 2+ years ago. my go to spider pass
NIce and simple. Looking forwart to trying this at Gracie Humaita tomorrow!
New to BJJ and we practice no gi. Wondering how this might translate in terms of the collar hold. Thanks! Love the videos!!
Great Tech..... Fresh Manto Gi
Was this the inspiration for the Ruotolo’s leg pin system?
Your sales copy is the best
my instructor loves to do the spider guard
thanks for this 3:)
Fantastic stuff.
Anything with "wrecking ball" I need in my bjj game.
Interesting concept
once you stomp the leg, cant you throw your other leg over and do a knee bar?
+Flipper2425 i think you would be better served if you did the leg drag into an ouside heel hook ,ankle lock or toe hold . Just thinking out loud ,but i think that would be a nice set up to play around with .
Thanks Keenan, love your Jiu Jitsu game.. Do you know how long your Beta is going to be up before you launch it?
Freak'n awesome pass!
Awesome!
thank you sir. I just subscribed, will be working this in next week
The leg drag pass at 4:18 looks like it sets you up perfect to sit on an ankle lock instead of trying to pass or am I missing something there?
+Mike B. I wanted to do the same thing but its just different styles. Honestly swinging into a leg lock from a leg drag off of this set up would work but would be a completely new video.
daridp
Gotcha, yeah it just looked like a good option from that spot.
Keenan stomp!!
Need to drill thanks for the videos. Lapel guard video been working well for me. Much appreciated.
Wish I could train at Atos :(
Is there a new dvd coming out?
Thank it going to help my jiu Jitsu game improve
Cool!
kenaan vc é top
There’s nothing new about it, when I started Bjj in 1998 my instructor was already being annoying and stepped in peoples legs like this 🧐
Noooice!
Show the full movement AND THEN break it down. Other than that I enjoy your videos. :)
Sweet
I’m also familiar with Miley Cirus
Miley Cyrus pass ;p
+quest808 hahahaha thats what i am gonna call it now because its stuck in my head . I hate you !!!! LOL
+quest808 I was thinking the same.
This pass isn't for white belts
And I'm no white belt. I'm two stripe blue whoop whoop
Very nice.
Lemme keep this a secret for the time being while some of these guard recoverers (inverters) try n figure out what it is i'm doing.
The best guard player at my gym only had me pass his guard once in every 20 atempts so far, i do pass his guard more than that, but he always recovers
Miley Cyrus' favourite pass
That is rude, I would not do with a training friend...
+Matheus Then your in the wrong sport. Muscles getting munted are all part of the game, if your not doing it to others they're just gonna do it to you and make your life (training life) much harder. Making people uncomfortable is the aim of the game
+Matheus Ok, don't. Just don't be surprised when people do it to you.
......

Gangster
Holy shit! I never thought actually stepping on the leg or an opponent for that matter was legal! I'm adding this to my guard passing repertoire asap!
Long as you are stepping and not kicking.
Nice pass bjj dude i will drill
Stealing Sebastian Brosche's moves hey?
Well Keenan does this for a number of years, so i doubt he's the one stealing :)

How many times have you drilled it?

Keenan do you practice self defense?
You may as well play handball. Such hours for nothing.
This pass works really well on black gentleman ;)
