I really appreciate every little detail - the WHY - for all these grips, positions, etc. That's the way I learn best, and I suspect most others as well. Thanks, Keenan!
Jay Hooks BJJ or not, detailed or not, his method of teaching is confusing. I taught martial arts for 15 years and coached wrestling do 8. Show the technique first, THEN show how it’s done. Other than that he showed good knowledge of the technique.
Some Click bait titles that didnt make the cut : ] "The worlds most devious Lapel strangle" "five finger jiujitsu Asphyxiation death grab" "LEARN TO CHOKE YOUR WORST ENEMY WITH THIS ! SECRET TIP TO PUT A HUMAN MAN TO SLEEP"
Excellent tutorial - I get this mostly from the knees - love the details here like turning the wrist upwards to tighten the grip, grabbing the collar not too deep, lifting the elbow, & throwing that leg over - I pull toward my hip like starting a lawnmower to finish. Thanks 🙏
I used to catch black and brown belts with this as a blue belt. Trick is getting them to drop their head...hold collar right under the earlobe...watch for the roll...and 90% of everyone will give you mad sweeps trying to fight the choke. Also if you can keep their head down and get above them...for a push/pull motion like starting a weed eater...they go out quick.

Most unexpected for me: Ezekiel Choke, because the setup is fast and can be done without contact. Paper cutter choke, for me, is sometimes unexpected, but I'm getting to know which people like it and what their setup feels like. I know what to expect when my partner is busy pulling my gi out of my belt.

6:10 for the leg part i am not so sure, i doesn't seem super stable. ( if the opponent uses a bit momentum i doubt that the leg can withstand the sideway force, is there another option instead?)
Funny that I found this. I was looking for the name of this choke because at the last class I attended, I (a 2 month white belt) got tapped by this... maybe 7 times? during a live roll period. I only escaped one (briefly) but every time, he managed to reposition himself and my body to where he had the choke again.
Keenan very great video. I kinda just wish you could follow up with the chokes to the point where your partner is tapping so we can actually witness the mechanism that causes the choke. Thx!
Awesome demo, @keenan. Question: Once you weave the other hand through (the one not grabbing the lapel), can you make a fist and cock the wrist up rather than point the fingers up? I feel like I have more strength that way, which helps lift the elbow up. Thanks!
Keenan is a good teacher and I'm sure this is a good technique but I have not seen it used to much effect where I train because without considering if it's a surprise or not people where I train are rarely ever NOT trying to control at least one of your arms in some way. which is really frustrating but also good tactics. For me the choke that people rarely see coming is something that can also be finished one handed (which loop choke variants can) but in my experience the least movement the better. my number one gi choke (number one choke really) is something Judo calls Kata Te Jime and is a bit like a Paper Cuter When I first learned Loop Chokes I really went after them and thought they were going to be my thing, but it did not work out. The Kata Te Jime thing just fell into my training and I have gotten great use out of it ever since. Weird!
I'm late to the game here. But nice video. The way you are seated would this choke also work if you sprawl out? The reason I ask is sometimes it's a killer to get that leg over their back when your opponent is actively moving.
So I tried the palm up grip on a new white belt and he dislocated my wrist. Found out he was a blackbelt in some Korean grappling Martial Arts that specializes on breaking wrists or something. Forgot what he called it but sounded like Mexican food.
He says to put their head into your stomach. I was taught to tuck their head under the same arm that has the colar. I mean his technique works but the was I was taught we don’t have to put out leg on top to keep the from rolling out of it
Adrian Smith I’ve been chocked with a T-Shirt with similar chokes when my last instructor made us train with old t-shirts once a month for real world simulations. He taught a lot of self defense Brazilian Ju Jitsu (Helio Family Tree), hope this helps.
Ash Bruh If you're fighting, you do it at the start of a fight to give a clear start to the fight. You also usually do it at the end of a fight, and at the end of a lesson. I'd say it's a respect thing, but that's just me.
very useful against old school "judoka", rushin bulls and smashin guard passers. in my opinion a good alternative to baseball choke from the guard ( so many "bulls" go to sleep with this). love your game!!!💪
If you are in a street fight Ther will be no gi to use against your opponent. That is where a guillotine choke is going to work instead. It was unclear from this video if he was teaching for BJJ sparring/MMA or for street defense.
Actually, you don't need a gi to utilize this choke. A t shirt collar works the same way. Gi techniques translate great to street situations if you're intuitive
I catch people with this all the time. Makes grocery shopping really fun!
For no gi you can do this by grabbing an ear lobe instead of the collar.
Unnamed haha
and to finish just bite their nose...
Hahaha
Or grab their shirt or jacket? Rashguard would be little harder so f them compression shirt guys
Thanks I was wondering if you could grab the ear. Coach got mad at me cuz I ripped a dudes ear off but I will just show him this comment
He seems like a good instructor that is sharing his insight and experience. The technical aspect of the move looks very thorough.
5:09 Herb dean swoops in to make sure he’s still awake.
I really appreciate every little detail - the WHY - for all these grips, positions, etc. That's the way I learn best, and I suspect most others as well. Thanks, Keenan!
You gotta luv and respect Keenan's JJ game, it's on point.
Timothy Henderson I'm a details guy, but I have started to pick apart techniques a bit recently, the rabbit hole goes deep.
instructions unclear choked myself out
People making fun of his explanation don’t know shit about BJJ. The longer you do BJJ do more you appreciate this very detailed explanation.
George R dumb dumb

Your contents great Keenan. Thanks for sharing so much. Keep trolling your haters.
Loop Choke. They never see it coming.
This would have been a better title. It says what's in the vid but with a bit of flair to get attention.
Bahahahahaha...Well done Keenan!
Can we get a video with another choke using "The worlds most devious Lapel Strangle" ?That title is too good to waste.
Keenan Cornelius haha, thanks for empowering the uneducated, all the best karma to you keenan, much respected
He can't see it coming cause you're wearing blue on a blue mat. Old Ninja trick.
Jeff Duke lol. Good one.

Hit this today after watching the video a few days ago!
It was my 10th class.
Although in hindsight I could’ve done it a bit ‘cleaner’

Shout out to the guy with the mismatching gi in the background
Jokes on you, he still made it to training on laundry day lol
Such a good teacher goes in to great detail to show all possibilities 👌🏿
I was expecting the old “ hey, your shoelaces are untied” routine. Only works on Shemp or Curly though

I just started drilling with my three daughters with this choke. We are all white belts and it’s incredible. Even my 7 year old tapped my 12 year old
Excellent! Trying tomorrow. I think that leg over the shoulder will be a game changer for me. Guys are constantly rolling out.
I love thatl ittle smirk he has on his face at the end, he's like, "They're gonna fucking love this move."
im a white belt and I tried this today during positional sparing; it worked like a charm! thank you
What belt are you now Alex?
@@tomways8332 purple belt 🙏
@@ButtersTheFatGolden haha thats sick bro. you are in it for life now.
I love the choke ... more please :)

I literally just learned this yesterday XD . And there's many ways to do the loop choke . This is just one of em
Here we see Keenan working his click-bait title game.
Does it make it better that he knows he's doing it and does it on purpose?
Arid Zoner I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way
Doesn't matter how he titled it, I'm trying to learn, like all the other white belts on here! Ha! Every little bit helps:)
Keenan Cornelius Asphyxiation Death is actually my band's name, thanks keen0r
should i have called it "loop choke" thats fun right? whats wrong with making an interesting title over a bland one?
The Click bait loop choke.
Keenan very great video. I kinda just wish you could follow up with the chokes to the point where your partner is tapping so we can actually witness the mechanism that causes the choke. Thx!
Ron he fully shows how to finish the choke
Thanks for the lesson Keenan. OSS!

Man, Keenan's body was designed for Jiu Jitsu
3 years ago and I still used it 🤙🤙🤙 best bjj content Keenan
This dudes video titles are hilarious lol
Love that gi . Nice blue
Nice detail. Good video. This is also a high percentage move. At least id think so. Its a common position.

Weird!
Did you say loop choke??
110 people don't know that Jiujitsu is a science and Keenan Cornelius is a Genious!!!
How ironic that you cant spell genius.
Like Keenan said, Kron Gracie is THE MAN at this loop choke set-up. Passing his guard with a bull-rush is practically suicide.
I'm late to the game here. But nice video. The way you are seated would this choke also work if you sprawl out? The reason I ask is sometimes it's a killer to get that leg over their back when your opponent is actively moving.
Rob Prator a clock choke would be better with the same grip from sprawl position
Can you do this choke from guard? After breaking the opponents posture?
Nathanael Jarrett Attempting this causes cancer
Keenan is the master of both BJJ and clickbait titles
I watched Professor Cornelius Catch Cyborg with a Loop a few years ago. 💥🤯
Huh. Olli Geddes did this to me once and now I understand why I had to tap so quickly even though I was thinking I might get a pass :D
Big fan of this!!
So, where is it ?
i like your jiu jitsu ! so clean !

Great, got it to work. So how do I wake my girlfriend back up?
Does this work with tshirt?
This is a nasty choke and it works great ive seen a few people win high level tournaments with this choke
when doing this choke I'm gonna yell UNEXXPECCTEDDDD CHOOOKEEEEE BIIIITCH
What point on the neck is the target?
What makes them pass out?
Carotid artery’s
lol @ the white belt in a blue gi that has his belt wrong at 0:22
Rock Wester that was you at some point
This guy will never beat a GB competitor for a title
Damnit don’t show my choke! Now people will see it coming!
What if he blocks your right leg from going over? Then he can roll out right ?
ROMEMD he can but you can roll with him and keep it locked up you can only roll so long before night night
He says to put their head into your stomach. I was taught to tuck their head under the same arm that has the colar. I mean his technique works but the was I was taught we don’t have to put out leg on top to keep the from rolling out of it
No.1 technique of teaching moves, show the goddamn move first before you start explaining it.
Genius.....
No. 1 technique or would that be the No. 1 rule genius?
some times that is not possible tho
If you're so green you don't know a loop choke, you need as much watch and shut the fuck up as you can get.
I'm not sure how this comment relates to the initial comment....
Does this choke work if you do have a shirt on?
Adrian Smith I’ve been chocked with a T-Shirt with similar chokes when my last instructor made us train with old t-shirts once a month for real world simulations. He taught a lot of self defense Brazilian Ju Jitsu (Helio Family Tree), hope this helps.
Which hyperfly gi is that?
Thought it was Captain Americana gi. But it’s not. Looking for it myself as it’s pretty slick especially in the blue.
would this work on closed guard
Yes this works from close guard
Great video

that's old good stuff, but old. So what is "Unexpected"?
That it's a normal grip that people don't usually use to loop choke. Pretty uncommon choke is current practice
Just call it a loop choke and save me 9 minutes
