Oreo Frosting that's Richly Oreo but NOT Overly Sweet

- My Oreo frosting takes just 5 minutes to make! It's perfect for piping on cupcakes or cakes and is carefully designed to not be too sweet. Only 6 ingredients!

Ingredients
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened (170g)
4 oz cream cheese, softened (113g) (use full-fat, brick-style cream cheese)
3 ½ cups powdered sugar (438g)
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
⅛ teaspoon salt
6 Oreo cookies, pulverized to fine crumbs (or ½ cup/70g Oreo cookie crumbs)

Instructions

01:21 Combine butter and cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and use an electric mixer to beat until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, stirring until completely combined.
04:13 Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
04:47 Add Oreo cookie crumbs and stir in until completely combined. Use as desired.

Recipe makes enough frosting to generously cover 12 cupcakes or one 2-layer round 8” or 9” cake or one 13x9 cake.
Storing/Making in advance
Store frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Let sit at room temperature until softened enough to stir then stir well before using.
Once applied to a cake or cupcake, frosting can sit out at room temperature for up to a day but otherwise should be kept refrigerated.

You should use a spatula and scrape down the sugar/frosting around the bowl, after each addition of powdered sugar. ❤️ Looks delish!!!!

Looks great but I have found that if I cream the butter first and add the sugar I plan to use before adding the cream cheese when adding said ingredient to my butter cream it pipes better. I think it has something to do with the fats encapsulating the sugars to help with the dissolving of the sugar.

Since the frosting has cream cheese in it, I recommend refrigerating it. :)

Buttercream frosting does not work well in hot climates like here in Arizona because it can't keep its shape. A better alternative is a crusting buttercream using high ratio shortening because it is not affected by temperature, has a long shelf life and doesn't need to be refrigerated because it is dairy free. And it tastes even better in my opinion.
I definitely won’t agree with you on the taste (#butter4life) but I am glad you’ve found an alternative that suits you.
