I love this. It never occurred to me to make Oreos myself. I don't buy processed foods if I can help it but Oreo's are one thing I make an exception for. But these I will definitely be doing. There's nothing better than having a mostly guilt free version. I'll take natural and homemade over store bought for sure! Thanks!
One of the reasons I am subscribed to your channel Sam. U do everything from scratch as do I. U never know what they are putting in our foods. Cause I can't tell u how many ingredients are in a simple Oreo cookie that I can't pronounce and don't know what it is. But with your cooking I know exactly what I am eating and feeding my family. Much love and thanks from Heather your friend in Indiana. Keep doing the great job that u are.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment Heather! It’s comments like these that help keep me going. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed everything so much. It is nice to actually know what’s in your food. 😊
I'm so happy to find your video on one of my favorite cookies. Your recipe is so easy. I love homemade verses store bought. Not only are the cookies tiny in package they taste like plastic. I will certainly enjoy baking these.
So I made these for hubby's birthday today with just a couple of minor changes. I didn't feel like rolling the dough and cutting out that many cookies, so I rolled the dough into a log and refrigerated it for a couple of hours, then sliced and baked. That worked great even if they were ugly AF because I can't roll a nicely rounded log, LOL. Also I don't keep shortening in the house so I used lard instead. I tasted the filling on it's own and had some concerns, ha ha, but once it was combined with the cookies you couldn't detect the lard flavor anymore, score! I definitely need more practice using a pastry bag but eventually got them all (double) stuffed and they really turned out great! I think hubby is really going to like them. 🥰
@@layslay788 LOL he did! He didn't love them enough that I felt like I needed to make them again (oreos aren't his favorite store bought cookie to begin with) but he definitely liked them.

Thanks for sharing!! I think the cookie recipe would be excellent for cookie crumb crusts. No need to make them pretty. No need for filling either. I will have to try them.

I am going to try the filling as well but I want to try cream cheese with the butter and see if that works for them as well. Thank you again!
Finally got around to making these for my niece with just regular cocoa powder. It’s like having 2 cookie recipes in one recipe. If you want oreos, make it with black cocoa powder. If you want chocolate cookies, use regular cocoa powder. I skipped the filling since I didn’t want sandwich cookies. I dipped them in white/milk chocolate and peanut butter. So funny! I seriously was thinking a couple of days ago to find an Oreo cookie recipe snd here we are! Niiiice! Definitely going to be making these. I love all your recipes! I'm not baking as much as I used to though, especially for recipes using butter. It's become soooo expensive nowadays 😢 I'll definitely be trying your oreos recipe though. Is it possible to reduce the sugar a bit for the cookie part?
I do! Most of my recipes are tested in my stand mixer at least once or twice before I make them with a handmixer. I also have two and they both get a lot of use ☺️
Hi! I am curious about using black cocoa. I purchased some a while ago and read that it is used mainly for its color in baked goods. So after watching your great video can you tell me what the flavor is like? Is it a deep chocolate flavor (like I hope it is)?
Black cocoa has a mellow, slightly earthy flavor with less bitterness compared to natural cocoa due to heavy alkalization. It's not as chocolatey as other cocoa powders, but it gives a strikingly rich, dark color to baked goods. So not a deep chocolate flavor, but it does give a distinct, classic "Oreo" flavor, which is why I used it here. I hope that helps! :)
Hi Sam - you’ve converted these to non-non-dairy 😁! Looking at the list of ingredients on an Oreo package I see palm oil mentioned prominently…have you ever worked with that? (Do home bakers ever use it?) Or do you think these could be made with all shortening instead of butter?
Haha, sounds like something I’d do without even meaning to 😅 I don’t work with palm oil, and it’s not really accessible. I do think you could use all shortening and end up with a taste closer to store bought and non - dairy results.
It's way cheaper to make them I'm baking them because I couldn't find just the wafers. I'm making chocolate pecan crust for chocolate cheesecake. My friends always make a fuss over my baked stuff because I do it from scratch. Thanks again !
