How to Remove Flower From Dragon Fruit
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Removing Dragon Fruit Flower helps your fruit stay fungal and pest free. This helps with limiting humidity on your Dragon Fruit to prevent it from having any rot that may happen. Especially, if it starts to rain then moisture will be trapped inside which can later cause your fruit to have issues. It also prevents bugs from eating from the inside out and when removing the flower you can see exactly what’s going on. Check out this video to see WHEN and HOW I remove the Dragon Fruit Flower!

Mine are just starting to form buds so I’m watching all your videos.
I’m taking notes.
Oh my God ... Oh my God ... I've got four fruits growing and getting red. And there are more three I think they're very "pregnant". I tried to take off the flower but it was already dry and hard to remove so I left there. Next year I'll remove them. Thank you for your advice Richard.
Love your stuff. I am about to build a massive garden and DF is one of my fav. I have yet to eat a red flesh fruit. I am a disabled Army Vet and gardening is very relaxing for me. I have never grown DF but looking forward to do it. Thank you
Thank you so much for making videos like this with all the information to have beautiful dragon fruit plants God bless you

Hi Joanne Wu, Thanks for watching my videos! Yayyy, congrats on your dragon fruit bearing fruits! That is very exciting :)
Thank you so much for all your knowledge and wisdom...just starting out with my first plant and preparing my custom built enclosure for them as we speak due to the UK's climate lol

Thank you for watching! :)
Have been growing 4 varieties of dragon fruit for a year and look nothing like yours. I believe when I make my raised bed and use a concrete /styrofoam post for the DF to climb as well as your trellis design ... should start showing promising results. Will keep you posted. Thanks for all tour videos and advice.
Hi Kenneth, please keep me updated I would love to hear about your progress. Chicken manure is a great source of fertilizer that will feed them throughout the year slowly. They love it and you can get results just like me by simply just adding this to your garden routine.
Naku maganda yan sa katawan, yan bulaklak ng dragon fruits ginagawa namin soup yan,,, dito hk

I was going to say that isnt it better to let nature do its job but you obviously know what you're doing judging by the health & size of your plant so ill take the tip thanks for sharing
Hi Tony, nature can definitely do its job but this just helps keep the fruit pest and moisture free. It helps keeps your fruit stay damage free and very pretty once you harvest them. Sometimes critters love to hide in those dry flowers and eat the fruit from within. Thanks for watching!
i thought my dragon fruit flower just died until see your video, Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
Can you talk about how to tell when a flower is successfully pollinated? All my flowers become bulbous and appear halfway like a mature fruit, but then they eventually fall off before full maturity. I'm wondering if this means they were not successfully pollinated.
Same here also happened
Hi Richer love ur video and love ur dragon fruits. I have big dragon pot n it bloom nice for 2 years now but it turned yellow n fail off no fruit. I’m sad! I tried to pollenate it but I did it wrong. Now I see ur video it make sense . So I’ll will try next year. Wish me luck. If I don’t have fruit I’ll go still ur!! Lol thank u .
How to have that kind of dragon fruit trees? Yours are so looks healthy...is there any fertilizer ?
I like how you demonstrate the care for dragon fruit that’s why l keep watching your channel thanks and god bless 😃
Thanx for letting me know. I’m a first time grower in Miami Fla. and I left the flowers dry up on the fruit. This caused the fruit to rot and fall off😭😩
Next time! It's all a learning experience for everyone
I will try to remove my flowers this way next time. I might have cut mines too early🤔. Keep posting!!! Too bad I live so far from you, would love to see it in person...yup, I’m impatient 😆
Hi Chanh! Didn’t know you were one of my subscribers. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel! You are awesome. Usually 2 days is enough time for the fruit to accept pollen. I just wait the extra amount of days because I’m paranoid and give it time to separate so it’s easier to snap and pull off. 😄
Grafting Dragon Fruit o
Very nice show how to remove flower. Thanks
Very grateful to your very gracious teaching very interesting
How often do you water the dragon fruit when they start flowering? And what vitamins do you give?
Thanks for sharing this. I've had a big problem with the dragon fruit creating the flower, the flower rots and the fruit falls off in the early stages, so maddening. I hope this solves the problem.
Your problem isn't the flower rot. It's the pollenation. Hope you've figured it out by now!
@@CamarenaFarms I watched a video on how to pollinate. But I do wonder if the compost I have it in holds too much moisture. What do you recommend for soil?
Did you ever figure it out? Mine’s doing the same thing.
@@aquaseahorselove3939 I'm still having the same problem. I think I might have to transplant them to get them into dryer soil. There's a lot of compost in the pot which might be holding too much moisture.
@@jetpromys I’m convinced mine must be self sterile. I’ve started a different kind of dragon fruit so I can cross pollinate them and see if that solves the problem. Good luck with yours.
Thanks, now I know how to do it, my dragon fruit flowers dried up 4 days ago.., have to do how you did it...thanks thanks...
Hi, thank you so much for sharing very useful tips. I have 1 dragon fruit about 1 year 3 months old. It just had 4 Flower’s bloomed. I’m not sure if the tree I have is male or female type. I will have to wait n see. Thanks

Can dragon fruit grow in Houston Texas
Great video. Would you explain when in the season to prune to improve flowering, increase growing, etc?
Thank you, Salvi Mithrin. I will definitely make a video on that topic when that time comes for me so I can demonstrate and explain as I am pruning my dragon fruit plants. Pruning for me usually starts in November when the last set of flowers all bloom and harvested. Then pruning will begin. I’ll make sure to cover all the content in the video. I appreciate your suggestions!

Splendid!
Thank you for sharing this video. Informative way of removing df flower.
This is a wonderful video!Thanks
Would you throw the removed flowers into a compost, or trash them?
What fertilizer you use why too much fruits come out
Hi Richard
Thank you for your very informative videos. I just learned that my “night blooming cactus” is really a dragon fruit plant about two months ago. I have been enjoying the plant for 10 years! I have quite a few that grow in my yard. After learning about dragon fruit from your videos we pollinated several flowers and had one fruit. It was delicious. Then we pollinated 27 flowers in the next bloom. None grew into fruit. Then I saw the video where you removed the flower and then the stigma. I just pollinated 5 tonight. Will try and follow your instructions over the next week or so.
Do you think that because the flowers and stigma were not removed was the reason we had no fruit? I live in Florida.
Thank you for any insight you may have.
Some dragon fruit need to be cross pollenated from a seperate plant.
Were you able to figure out how to get fruit from it?
Nice demonstration bro, I would like to know the schedule of Nutrition we need to provide for healthy growth and fruiting.
Good information healthy plants
Hi Pritesh Sojitra, thanks for watching!
Awesome sauce. Nice content. I had no clue of this flower removal front Dragon fruit. Very nice. I got two poisonous spiders on my Dragon fruit plant. Have you encountered this on your plants? And what's your suggest in regards to this matter?
Thank you

nice video
Thanks Birds!
Awesome! Very interesting information . Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Hey Richard I remove the string coming out of the dragon fruit. Did I messed up on that?
Hello Richard....from my understanding the reason why we removed the dragon fruit flower is to avoid insects from staying in the flower & fruits....Because what I did is I just leaved the flowers to dry until harvesting the fruits.
Thank you for sharing Godbless
Do you have to hand pollinate ?
Never seen this before.Tnx.
How do you treat the flowers if you plan to make tea from them? The flowers you plucked were moldy and not looking like they'd make a tea which I would want to drink. thx!
Interesting always wanted to plant dragon fruits this is very helpful thanks
You’re very welcome Kou Lor! Right now it’s the best time to start growing Dragon fruit. Their season is from May-October after the winter comes they go “dormant” and won’t grow until spring-summer season is back.
First dragon fruit flower ever today. How do I know if it is self pollinating or not? Or needs cross pollinating with another plant?
Wow! Great video
Good information
Thanks for the info you shared to the viewers God bless you.
Richard - love watching all your videos its been so informational but I was wondering if you have a video on how to make budding blooms. My dragon stem I have been growing for 2-yrs now has not had one bloom and I would absolutely appreciate your help. thank you.
Thank you for all the great information, my plant just flowers it turns yellow and it dries, have you had that issue before?
Pablo Vazquez are you pollinating it?
Hi Pablo, are you hand-pollinating your flower? If not this is one reason why they would bloom and fall off. Check my channel on how to hand pollinate a dragon fruit so you are prepared to do it when your flower blooms again. They shouldn’t fall off if you’re successful.
Bathtubshrimp I tried hand pollinate but it didn’t work, I guess I just didn’t do it right.
Grafting Dragon Fruit I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I already checked out your video on pollinating and I’m going to give it a try.
Exelente video informativo. Es de mucha ayuda toda la información que compartes. Gracias guapo
If i am growing one dragonfruit cactus,
Say i propogated cuttings from it,
Would they be suitable for cross pollinating?
Or would they be the same bariety as the plant i took cuttings from?
I like how you deflowered it.
Thank you
Thank you🙏😊

i am larn from you brother.i have plan i will make garden.thank you brother.
Hi, i have two questions
1- I’ve noticed dragonfruit plants produce two types of limbs, one kind tends to get chunky full of water while the other is skinny, long and seems to grow faster, how should I choose which limbs to
Prune, long and skinny, the chunkier ones, or both?
2- is it true that weather needs to reach a certain temperature for dragon flowers to actually become fruit?
Thanks for all the knowledge you share
I'm in Anza California, hope mine turns out good
What kind fertilizer needed as my plant is not growing and not flowering.
Hi. I didn’t know about pulling the flower off. Thank you for showing how that is done. Your video’s are very helpful. Thanks! Question, if you don’t mind. … I live in Central Florida and have a Haley’s Comet Dragonfruit. It gets mostly sun and is well drained. I had 5 blooms this year and hand pollinated all of them. (One on one night, and other 4 the night after) on the night I had 4, I used all 4 to pollinate each other. Few days later, seemed like they took. They were firm. On the 5 th day, I could see the color separation and was able to pull the bloom off like you showed. But a day or so later, they turned yellow. 3 fell off the next day. The other 2 have some pink, but also kind of yellow. What did I do wrong? (Going to send this your dragonfruit friend as well, please don’t be offended. I’ve learned from both of you, lol)
How do u keep it looking like a tree?
Do you cut the ends like a bonsai?
Do you prefer growing them in pots or in the ground?
Pots so I can move them if necessary
The flower is sweet & edible. In China, unfertilized flowers from a closely related species 霸王花 are picked and sun-dried, then used to make soup with pork or chicken. Doing it your way you get both the fruit and the flower. As the flowers are fresh, if they're not moldy or rotten, you can probably use them as veggies in stirfries. To minimize mold formation, slit the flower longitudinally into 4 quadrants a few hours after they close to improve ventilation.
Great video bro! Keep it coming 👍🏾
Thank you, Chau!
Hi Richard, after removing the Dragon Fruit Flower, how many days doI have to wait until it is ready to be harvested?Thank you.
The Vietnam white variety is best harvest at 30-35 days after the flower has bloomed. That’s when it’s at its best!
Hi Richard, I seem to have bacteria forming on the cactus arm ( yellow with brown spot) where 4 fruits are on. Will the fruits still grow normally ? I plan to cut off the arm after the fruit is harvested if it matures even with the damaged segment. Any suggestions on how to prevent bacterial rot?
Hi Cynthia, your fruits will still grow normally so no need to worry about that. I would let the whole fruiting cycle finish and once its done you can do 2 things.
1. Treat it with copper fungicide and spray the infected area to stop the spread and kill the fungus.
2. Cut the whole cutting off and discard it away from your other plants so that it doesn't spread.
I hope this helps, you can search through my videos for info on how to treat cactus fungus. There's a video of me showing ways to remove them. - Richard
Grafting Dragon Fruit Thank You ! It’s great to have advice from experts.
Hi Richard, how can you tell if the fruit develops after removing the flower? Is there a possibility that even after manually pollinating the stigma that the fruit won’t develop? Thanks!
Just curious where you acquired all this knowledge on dragonfruit? Did you have family in Vietnam with a dragonfruit farm or something?
That plant looks so cool. What’s your top 3 favorite varieties?
Thanks, Ronnie! My top 3 favorite varieties are Sugar Dragon, Ecuador Palora, and Condor. If I have a 4th favorite it would totally be Tricia!
Grafting Dragon Fruit is that in the order of 1,2,3? I need to get me a sugar s8 variety.
Yes, it would be in that exact order. Here’s a better description of each one of my favorites!
1. Sugar Dragon - ALL TIME FAVORITE, they basically should call this Candy Dragon. I can taste it just saying that name.
2. Ecuador Palora - Love it for its honey tasting sweetness.
3. Condor - AMAZING flavor profile. The tart really compliments the sweetness, every chew makes it even better. Really fun for the palate.
4. Tricia - Reminds me of lychee and berries mixed together. Taste like a exotic candy.
Grafting Dragon Fruit i thought your third favorite was voodoo child?? What bumped it off the list?
Def gonna buy a sugar dragon cutting from ya then, sounds super yummy! 🤤
And would you say Vietnamese white giant just grows super huge but taste wise you don’t think is so good then? Definitely want the tastiest sweetest
Grafting Dragon Fruit do you have any cuttings of the sugar dragon that I can buy from you? Please 🙏🏽

Hello I am new to your channel, so how do you pollenate the plant does it pollinate on its own? I have red and yellow seeds ready to germinate.. hopefully
Pollination is with help of bees ?
Or
Other options in hand ?
wow, what a beautiful plant
My dragon fruit rarely fruit. I"ll have13 and only one will fruit. They all blossomed but turned yellow real quick and dies. What am I doing wrong? Are there not enough bees. My husband tried pollinating with qtips but no luck. This will be my fifth year and I only harvested 3 in all those years.
