@Martin Øverby I mean, I thought this WOULDN'T happen after the disaster that Ubisoft NFTs were, but still. Also, NFT bros run out of money eventually and have to limit their "investment" when they lose money by spending thousands on NFT, and with the amount of badmouthing of NFTs there is, there are probably going to run out, by which I mean NFT bros with the money to actively buy NFTs, because the NFT bros themselves will probably last pretty long, but stop being profitable eventually. So ironic that not only are NFTs a bad investment for NFT bros, they're a bad investment for companies, which keep falling into the trap that because everyone's talking about NFTs, they're going to make more with that than with trying to actually make a good game, ignoring that most people are talking NEGATIVELY about it. I just hope it doesn't go viral somewhere full of idiots ready to sink all their money on NFTs like Tiktok, because then the people buying NFTs will greatly outmatch any slander thrown their way. Anyways, none of this really affects me, nor it affects the gaming industry as much as people think it will, because only corporations will decide to use them, and I don't think I've played a game by a big corporation, other than GTA V Minecraft and Skyrim in the past decade. Some small indie developer isn't likely to decide to add NFTs to their games, since they really need to listen to community feedback to be successful, and can't just bank on their money like corporations can. I just hope corporations realize that essentially swapping industries (NFTs aren't just going to delete the gaming industry, though some companies might fall out of the industry due to their higher-ups obsession with money and instead go into the NFT business, which as I sad earlier is probably going to die eventually, even if it takes decades, so those companies that go all in with NFTs might be in trouble in the future due to how poorly NFTs have been received so far, again, I hope some idiot doesn't go viral promoting them)

      2) WTF does "inconsistant and unreliable" even means here? Sounds like buzz words like the whole letter. See the case of the Steam cosmetics sold by DE on Warframe which are created by people on the community. Said cosmetic gets sold and Steam gets a cut, DE gets a cut and the artist gets a cut and the community who voted on which cosmetics get on the store buys them. No NFT or Metaverse crap in-between. Same for modding, some modders create and code mods for their favourite games because they enjoy it, the community uses and enjoys them and the developers help by making the game moddable. No NFT or Metaverse crap in-between. If it's not broken, don't fix it, ever heard of that?
      3) Sure, they aren't legally-talking our games, but if they aren't our games why do they ask our opinions about them? Why do they put up a letter communicating their intentions to everyone? Sure they legally own the whole thing but your game can't be sucessful if no one likes it, nobody plays it and nobody buys it, they still depend on the consumers to earn a profit from it, so even tho they aren't legally our games, we're still a big pillar on the industry, we as consumers are the ones that keep the machine going on, investors wouldn't invest money if their investment is worth nothing

As the game declines in popularity, there is less modding and the creation of new content for players stagnates which in turn creates even more players leaving. This can be seen in the starcrafts, fallout, skyrim, and many other popular modded games. When Skyrim tried to allowed an option system where modders could get paid for their work, there was huge backlash from the community as well, so don't act like you care about modders being rewarded for their hard work.

Today it's larger in terms of value than the entire movie and the majority of sport's industries combined. How is an industry that is making mountainous piles of cash quarterly, not even annually, going to suffer some sort of crisis severe enough to alter its course. Makes me think that eventually, if this really goes on, people will lose interest in AAA games and start paying more attention to Indie or AA games. Not everything will be good ofc, but I honestly believe the consumers who know nothing of gaming news (AKA young adults and teenagers as well as younger children) will have no interest in a "game" about investing. If they do, they won't be there for long because that shit is boring af. These "games" will then be targeted towards older adults who do not fall for scams as easily and they will die eventually because guess what? Trends (actual popular trends) are started by young people.
No one wants games about real life investment, much less teenagers and children. These guys are the ones who make things popular and they don't have any interest whatsoever in having a helmet that has a different number on it that's barely visible. They want stuff that looks cool and has cool gameplay, they want games that are experiences that change how they think. Ever seen those memes about people "downloading" a new personality after finishing a movie? That's what gaming is about for young people.
Kids are always looking towards being more mature and the like, they wanna be like adults because it looks fun and cool, but once they realize it isn't they just stop trying to follow those steps. That's what I think is gonna happen with those investment "games". They will die off eventually, even if it takes years and I would be damn happy to see it happen.
Raise a glass to the rise of indie devs I guess.

Yes. Then they act like we have a choice to not support NFT games. How do we avoid them when every big publisher and developer isn't listening and plans to force NFTs onto gamers? The choice is an illusion. Good thing the quality and ambition of indie games continues to grow.

I mean Matsuda himself even said the majority of gamers play to have fun instead of "playing to contribute."
So yeah they see the majority don't want this, they just don't care because they want to promote games as a job that will make them more money.

They will be in most games in the future. Basically they will allow you to resell your stuff to other players so when you stop playing you don't lose what you spent. Right now it is an emerging technology. And yes these Ubisoft ones do seem to be overpriced gimmicks so don't buy them, but in theory an NFT will allow you to have more control over your data and assets and could even be used as a contract to do basically anything you want (which is very useful). An NFT is just a piece of data on a blockchain. There is no intrinsic moral value to it. It is like, well the internet, it is a multi purpose system. The internet can serve you scams, so can NFTs, the internet can provide function and utility, so can NFTs. If you are not convinced, spend a few minutes reading about what decentralization is, then use your mind to imagine how this could be used to create a better world. I think almost everyone should be able to see the potential at least. If you can reach that step, then the question is, do we trust governments and corporations enough that they will use it responsibly. No we should not, but I believe the idea is so powerful that those who use it badly will die out and new and better organizations will emerge. It would be like trying to stop the internet. Open source stuff is another thing I can compare it to. Decentralization and transparency and power back to the users are great things. These are what blockchains and NFTs are about, or should be about. It is frustrating to see people think the opposite when they heard the word NFT, it has become a marketing buzzword which now just means "scam" to a lot of people.
