12:44 They actually did give Supreme Kai a Katchin super move in the games, just not in the Tenkaichi series: In Budokai 3, he has a move called "Supernatural Abilities" where he can summon multiple items made of Katchin Steel, including the steel block.
The Bojoack outfit for ''Teen'' Gohan is one of my favorite little details from the Tenkaichi games and probably the biggest downgrade in the Raging Blast games. In anticipation to Tenkaichi 4, my standards are higher for the costume detail rather than roster size.
My favorite detail about the spirit bomb is that if you DO use "Share your energy with me" you can actually see the spirit bomb floating in the sky waiting to be used. And it does in fact get larger with every charge. Also, the Supreme Kai using Kachin thing is not unique to BT3, He could launch several different shapes of kachin projectiles in Budokai 3 as well. Gameplay mechanics wise though, my favorite thing in BT3, specifically in terms of making the fights more cinematic, is the added "double dash" trick. Everybody knows that if you press L2+x you dash quickly toward the enemy with a ki aura, but by pressing X again mid-flight, you will actually dash off to the side and come around behind them, which you can use to dodge beam attacks, or just be extra flashy with your attacks (which looks extra cool because the camera locks and you actually get to watch yourself fly around behind from a spectator pov until you actually end behind them and go back to the normal "behind yourself" viewpoint.)
Hidden Energy had a fair bit of utility in Tenkaichi 2 when it was considerably easier to knock someone out of their sight on you mid-combat, generally smacking them into the ground at low health, and not just when hitting an enemy with an Ultimate beam or something. Of course, characters with Scouters can and WILL detect Gohan and Yajirobe even behind structures if I recall once the opponents use their search ability; They can even be detected off their Ki eventually by Ki sensing characters... At least I think they can, with enough Ki bars or something. Been ages since I played or even had BT2, sadly.
Due to the specificness of the circumstances needed to make the move slightly beneficial it's pretty unusable sadly e.g. you'd want to already have very low ki, have a blast stock spare, be able to escape the opponent and not be seen when hiding and then because you have no ki you'd have to charge it without drawing attention. But a neat implementation by the developers.
There's a specific amount of Ki beyond which characters can't suppress their energy. You can charge up to that point, break line-of-sight, and timer scam the AI. If Tenkaichi 3 had the mechanic, it would work online too.
5:11 this is weird and ironic because in the anime(best filler), Yamcha manages to stand up in 300x gravity. And thats a feat no one else managed to do instantly. They shouldve had him act all bummed out without seeming to be affected by the gravity chamber. Thatd of been funnier.
thanks for the shoutout, appreciate it! Although losing all of your ki just for the opponent to lose lock on doesn't sound like that big of a benefit, I actually did not know that effect
@@Ffeoli1039 yeah it's a pretty direct easter egg, evidenced by the character dropping all their ki. It's just a little confusing because Gohan's potential was also unlocked (moderately) in the namek saga which could also be dubbed as "hidden energy" though I guess potential is a better way of putting it. So I can understand why players would assume it would be more beneficial. It is a genius reference tho.
In regards to the master roshi turtle hermit thing its a nod to how he is called Kame-Senin which roughly translates to Turtle Hermit, and that's the title most characters use towards him in the Japanese version. Muten Roshi is a title that means something like "Invincible Old Master," basically Akira Toriyama combining fancy kanji to get across the idea that he's a mystical, prestigiuous figure in martial arts. Muten Roshi is his more formal title, while Kame Senin appears to be his regular identifier.
I knew about the Kamehameha boost mechanic all the way back in the day, where all my source of information was our own experimentation with the game between me and my 3 friends. Even as little kids, we played so much BT3 that we got the game mechanics figured out from the inside out.
Same here. On a side note, it took me too long to figure out how to do the Kamehameha motion on the Wii version properly (you're supposed to keep the Wiimote pointed at the screen during the motion).
Awesome. Always fun to 100% that one game. For me it was final fantasy tactics war of the lions. The amount of hidden mechanics in a game is unreal. Does invite replay challenges until you get out of ideas. Didn't know about the transformations breaking super armor (outside arale).
This mechanic of perfect charging is present in other games too like Smash Bros for special moves, and some sports videogames where you hold a button to fill a gauge but when you reach 100% if you keep holding the gauge will lose some of its charge and stagnate at 80%. The logic is that the character gets tired from holding the full charge for too long
If you read the manga, the first genkidama (spirit bomb) that he throws to Vegeta is smaller because it is made with the energy of earth and the energy of living beings in earth and the Namek's one is much bigger (x20) because Namek is a much bigger planet and it does it with the energy of the planets around Namek and the same Namek , that's why it collects more energy and is much bigger just like the one that Majin Buu gets kills, is made with the energy of the Kaioshin planets, this is never mentioned in the anime or video games
The Devs deserve major respect for implementing Janamba's Lego Blocks move set from the movies. It makes me wish they put it in the upcoming Budokai Tenkachi 4 game.
@animaIpath don't be like that. It is not guaranteed until its confirmed. The roster expectations are literally insane and they would prioritize more recent characters. The number in super and more recent movies is huge, dummy.
I'll be honest, my siblings and I never knew what Solar Flare did either until we used it in multiplayer. Against the AI you really don't see much of a difference but when your whole screen turns white for a few seconds it all clicks.
I've always known about it, I could have debunked a long time ago but I'm not a UA-camr lol, I used to play this game a lot and I played with every character
About the chargeable kamehameha tip, I had noticed it years ago, and there is also another way to tell when you're ready to release the perfectly charged version instead of the fully charged one. That's when the circles gathering around the ball of the kamehameha reach the point when they just touch the main ball of the charging.
@@TheZomboy11 They certainly all can be boosted by releasing Δ at the right time, I don't remember if all of them have circles approaching the center, but they sure have the sound chime-like effect
9:10 Yes! Finally someone noticed it!! As a Teen Gohan main I actually noticed it at the time I thought I was trippin. In my opinion I like that they did this, the Bojack Hair does make him look alot more adolescent actually. That might be the intention.
The funny part about this is that I’ve been playing Tenkaichi 3 recently because of nostalgia, and today, I was playing as shin, and I saw that he was using Kachin as an attack, and I thought hmm that would be cool if this guy mentioned it, and you did, weird coincidence.
Always look forward to when you upload. It never ceases to amaze me all the little quirks they added, and more surprising that new (if minor) things are still being uncovered. Can't wait for the Naruto one, since the old Ultimate Ninja games were my first real fighting games....unless I forgot another.
What's funny about the super armor and "SSJ3 tier power" characters is that there are some characters who can break thru it despite being weaker than others that can't do it. SSJ2 Teen Gohan was shown to not have the armor break property but SSJ saiyan armor Trunks can break thru. Found that out years ago when I was playing the Broly story mission and was confused on how Trunks was beating me up while nobody else could budge me.
Here's one interesting exploit in Tenkaichi 2. Self damaging attacks such as Neo tri beam register damage as blocked damage. Pairing a character with Perfect guard Z-item reduces the damage to 1. I think this worked especially well with Tien and Majin Vegeta in conjunction with halo item so you could spam their ultimate attacks for half the ki and at practically no cost.
On the kamehameha it looks like a modern mechanic kinda where the circle around the kamehameha is supposed to be released as it hits. You can also kinda see it on Piccolo's SBC as well. It's pretty neat that something like that has been around since ps2 era.
Here is the thing about the mispronunciation at 1:50 . If you translate genkidama from japanese to English the actual name would be spirit Ball however Spirit Bomb was the name used by most English translations therefore most people know it as spirit bomb.
I knew about the Beam Charge Noise, though I was mostly unaware of it causing more damage. I just thought it to be some sort of noise to encourage you not to charge it all the way. A sound to give it some OOMPH. Part of me also thought it was just a bug and it was meant to be placed right before you fired it. So, I just began to instinctively try to match it. For the sake of being cool.
11:28 I find it funny you immediately charge up a melee attack, and then specifically overcharge that too. Did you know if you release the melee attack at the right time you will actually do a short range teleport jump to close some distance if you aren't quite close enough to land the attack? I think the teleport can also be used to dodge.
About the hidden kamehameha mechanic, you can see at the bottom left « BOOST! » when you release the button just before the automatic release, so it was always making sense to me that it was more powerful than just pressing it to the automatic release. But i never paid attention to the sound the kamehameha makes to warn you, i was just trying to feel in me when i had to release it, that’s very cool thanks a lot
I think the last Dragon Ball game I ever played was Tenkai Ichi 1 in PS2... but I'm still a big fan of OG DB and DBZ, this is awesome to see. Love the details
I always wondered what hidden energy did when I played BT2 as a kid. It kinda makes you feel dumb after realizing it cause it's in the name lol.. It was also really cool to find out about the beam charge mechanic. Amazing job with this!
I think it's easy to get confused, since "Hidden Energy" can be seen as a reference to Gohan's potential that is always referenced. I think it's called "Potential unlocked" in regular Budokai.
I loved playing this... and I knew a lot about the Hidden Energy mechanic. It isn't just limited to those characters, but the Androids have this hide&seek gameplay as well. You could get away with some evil sneak attacks since 17&18 were undetectable, even at full Ki.
omg i love the editing of this video so much, it's comedic **and** informative. it's a brilliant visit to things i did and didn't know from one of my favorite childhood games!
I've played budokai tenkaichi 3 for a stupid long time during my childhood. I've known so much about that game that most of these facts are common knowledge to me, but damn I'd be lying if some didn't catch me by surprise. Especially the charge one!...
The "hidden" Mechanic for kamehameha/super ki blasts was super obvious to me as a child since the game has this mechanic where you boots your special attack inputing what they told you (Ex: up + square), so it simply made sense to me that inputing 'y' (On the play was triangle) was the way to boost it for the ki blasts and the audio made it natural for me to know when to do it lol
Janemba's warp sound effect sounded similar to the fast travel portals you use in Xenoverse 2. (The one to travel to Capsule Corp., Elder Guru's house, etc.) Just pointing that out in case anyone missed it.
This series straight up got me back into the Tenkaichi games! And my favorite thing is that the third game, the one I remember playing when I was little, still holds up amazingly well! I've also been checking out that Tenkaichi 4 fan hack thing and I recommend anyone check it out if you don't mind playing on an emulator.
Raging blast 2 has hidden mechanics as well. Timing every heavy attack correctly leads to more damage. Using the ki cannon, if you time that correctly, you'll send your opponent flying back as if you knocked them back normally.
iirc that's not so much a hidden mechanic, and is more likely lesser known because people don't bother with the training modes, where they make you practice this. Xenoverse has that same mechanic, but does force the player to practice it if they want to progress with certain trainers.
5:40 SO fun fact is Vegeta's buu saga outfit (1994 first manga appearance ) is ACTUALLY from his appearance in Bardock father of goku special (he wore it training as a kid) which aired in 1990. the Cell saga started in 1992 (manga) meaning his "buu saga" fit predates even the bulma designed sayian armour look he had going into the time chamber by a long shot. Thus it would mean that particular look would be Vegeta's casual training outfit which even DBS BROLY AND SUPER HERO have him wearing when training. this is more likely as in the west we saw all of the specials and movies out of order so we wouldnt know that his buu saga look actually predates his cell saga look but the developers Dimps would have seen the designs in chronological order so its likely a mini reference in itself
I see you love using Ssj2 Goku! He was my main in every dbz game I could have played with Friends! His fighting style and overall badassness Is TOP in that form imo!
Not sure if this counts, but I noticed that King Cold has a slightly different colour scheme in Tenkaichi 3 compared to the anime. In the anime he has a dark green biogem and blue armor, in the game he has a blue biogem and black armor. His Budokai 1 model actually does match the anime colours much better. Also, in his battle-damaged costume, it's shown he does not appear to have bio-armor covering the top of his abs, like both of his sons do.
These games have some absolutely awesome little animation references honestly. Like for example, in BT3 if you perfect deflect a ki blast (block at the right time) he bounces it back in the same way he did with the spirit bomb against vegeta. As well as that, when you start one of those vanish chains where you continously teleport behind the opponent with SSJ goku, he does an instant transmission animation to get behind the opponent.
I'm not caught up with this series, but if you haven't mentioned it, you can get inside the Kame House in Tenkaichi 3, and it's actually fully modeled inside.
Man, the splitting of characters based on eras is a major pet peeve of mine. I wish Tenkaichi had customization options for supers, supports and ultimates to avoid having to split characters unnecessarily.
My personal favorite Spirit Bomb is the early version in the Saiyan Saga. All the others are just generic explosions... The Proto Spirit Bomb seems to be the only one that shows it carries the property of "the more evil you are, the more it hurts, power level difference be damned". Consider how absolutely painful it was for Vegeta when he got hit by it, ESPECIALLY in the game Kakarot. I love the Proto Spirit Bomb. It will always be my favorite version.
Tenkaichi 3 was one of my favorite games growing up. All the characters and costumes made it a super fun game to play with friends. My brother always preferred 2, but the character roster alone had me putting in hundreds of hours in it as a kid
11:20 i didnt know that was a damage increasing mechanic, but i always fired when i heard that sound(for some odd reason, it felt like the game was telling me to fire lol)
Quick question about the hidden Kamehameha mechanic at 10:51 ... Does relasing is at the correct time help in terms of winning beam struggles? For some context my older brother has always just barely beaten me most of the time when we clash so a little boost might really make all the difference for me.
I don't care what people say Yamcha surviving 300 x gravity is no joke, first everyone is just comparing him to Vegeta a none human, Second if you compare him to a normal human it's beyond impressive, Because of normal human can only take 9 x gravity before passing out, we're talking about blood, organs, skin, bongs all that being pushed down
Also a dragon Ball z fan making fun of yamcha is like a comedian going up on stage and the only joke he has is talking about he's d*ck it's play it out and so boring
i knew since i was a kid about the charging attacks (tho i only knew it with the kamehameha) my understanding as a kid wasa that, it lost a bit of energy after the sound queue, so i've always timed it not to lose the extra energy
Ayo, it's been almost 10 years since I played BT3, and, man, seeing some content of it is a pleasure. Brought me back to the days where I mained Bardock before he was OP af against Broly, my homie participated in several competitive games, but trained with me, no Ki techniques. Maybe I was not that bad? Who knows. Thanks, UA-cam recommendations, subscribing atm. Keep it up bro!

4:35 you can't sneak Takahata101 past me :)
I used Hidden Energy a lot back in the day. I figured it out back then and I used it to get away from enemies and get a small break in.
I'm assuming it stops lock on?
@@FollowerOfChrist98 it does for a bit.
And made it easier to find dragon balls
5:11 this is weird and ironic because in the anime(best filler), Yamcha manages to stand up in 300x gravity. And thats a feat no one else managed to do instantly. They shouldve had him act all bummed out without seeming to be affected by the gravity chamber. Thatd of been funnier.
Fr bro
thanks for the shoutout, appreciate it!
Although losing all of your ki just for the opponent to lose lock on doesn't sound like that big of a benefit, I actually did not know that effect
I don't think the move was made to be useful, just a nod to what they did in the show.
It's useful for when you wanna take a quick break. Lol. I used to play hide and seek with my cousins all the time.
@@Ffeoli1039 It was actually used in competitive play somewhat. Against enemies that cannot sense ki, it's actually very powerful.
@@lucifermorningstar8562 That's a genuinely clever way to use this.
Janemba’s teleport skill is cold af at sight, even quite better in the game than in the movie
Same. I'd even spend so much time just putting different characters against each other to see if they had Unique dialogue. The games were so much fun.
@@lucifermorningstar8562 recoome vs nappa for best mid boss is fun

About the chargeable kamehameha tip, I had noticed it years ago, and there is also another way to tell when you're ready to release the perfectly charged version instead of the fully charged one. That's when the circles gathering around the ball of the kamehameha reach the point when they just touch the main ball of the charging.
Is it only the kamehameha that works like that or is it every charged super?
@@TheZomboy11 They certainly all can be boosted by releasing Δ at the right time, I don't remember if all of them have circles approaching the center, but they sure have the sound chime-like effect

I’m glad that they added the unique sound effect from the movie for Janemba’s particle teleportation technique. It’s so cool 😎

Even after Many years of being out people still keep finding new things, Thats Crazy🍩
I love all your videos
About the hidden kamehameha mechanic, you can see at the bottom left « BOOST! » when you release the button just before the automatic release, so it was always making sense to me that it was more powerful than just pressing it to the automatic release. But i never paid attention to the sound the kamehameha makes to warn you, i was just trying to feel in me when i had to release it, that’s very cool thanks a lot

It’s always a great day when Kadazee uploads.
omg i love the editing of this video so much, it's comedic **and** informative. it's a brilliant visit to things i did and didn't know from one of my favorite childhood games!
Damn, that's a really nice comment.
Appreciate it!
I caught that too!!
13:05, I still think that's the most funny AND annoying Goku "WhoOOa!" In any of the games. LMAO Thanks for the close up 😂
This series straight up got me back into the Tenkaichi games! And my favorite thing is that the third game, the one I remember playing when I was little, still holds up amazingly well! I've also been checking out that Tenkaichi 4 fan hack thing and I recommend anyone check it out if you don't mind playing on an emulator.
Yoooo more videos like this please. You’re popping off
Raging blast 2 has hidden mechanics as well.
@@redshirt49 Yeah, but I figured most people wouldn't know about it.
DBZ Budokai & Budokai Tenkaichi series were amazing games. The good ol days!
The Buu Sagas spirit bomb isn't more damage, it's just that they hit the floor after you use it which causes the slight damage increase
For solving the Hidden Energy mystery that has plagued me all these years, you get a gold star 🌟
Orrrr it was just a mistake

The Dragonball Budokai games are a certified childhood classic. My older brother and I have been playing them together since before they were 3D.
2:00 that’s accurate because goku on namek also was gathering energy from the entire universe so that’s is an very good detail
He was only gathering energy from the remaining life on Namek and some of the nearby surrounding planets.
Ahhh dude! Been waiting for your videos! Like gold dust! We love them!
5:50 Turtle Hermit is the translation of his original (japanese) name Kame Sennin.
2:11 maybe you said in something else, but the charge Ki blast can stagger them.
I'm not caught up with this series, but if you haven't mentioned it, you can get inside the Kame House in Tenkaichi 3, and it's actually fully modeled inside.
