One thing that this retcon did about the legend of Super Saiyan, it explained how Goku was able to survive and not be relegated to history (like Yamoshi was) because of three reasons (at least in my head-canon): 1. As you mentioned in your previous videos, the SSJ transformation had a 50x power multiplier. Thanks to his training for years on earth, King Kai's world and so on (6 days in 100x gravity as well) and then the extreme zenkai boost that Goku got due to his rejuvenation, his base power was high enough to make the transformation that much stronger. Yamoshi on the other hand might not have had as high a base power, so his transformation might not have given him a power boost as big, letting him get overwhelmed and killed. 2. Also, Goku had mastered the art of suppressing his ki by this point, which enabled him to sustain the SSJ transformation while minimizing power drain. While this was not perfect (he only masters the form to eliminate ki drain in the cell saga), it is still an advantage enough that Goku manages to sustain the combat with Frieza (even at 100% strength) without draining out. 3. Because Goku had trained in martial arts his whole life, he managed to retain enough control over his emotions that he didn't surge his ki too far and drain himself of the form, rather using the multiplied power to strategically fight and neutralize Frieza. Yamoshi on the other hand, might not have mastered such control, which might have led to him being overrun eventually. (And yes, while Goku was enraged, he was still able to maintain a level of control over his emotions while fighting Frieza. Even King Kai mentions that Goku, with his new found power and rage, is struggling to maintain control, showcasing that the fight was not just an outburst of rage, but strategic fighting fuelled by rage.) So in my mind, Goku exemplified how the Super Saiyan transformation could be harnessed ideally without the pitfalls that the original legend of Yamoshi had faced. So him being crowned the greatest fighter (at least for this saga/DBZ) makes absolute sense.
@@allworksnewThere can only be one legendary super Saiyan though, it's the first one to ever reach it right? But I'd say there's a new legendary super Saiyan and that's Goku reaching ultra instinct a level so powerful than even some of the gods can't even reach and Goku is just a mortal.
@@zetset8098 Not really. The whole legend of the SSJ is completely canon and mentioned outside of Bardock's movie. Not only that, but while most of the story of the movie is non-canon, the last part with Bardock facing Frieza and dying is canon, and it was also in the manga way before Super Broly showed Bardock's canonical full story
11:00 Actually, Nappa calls Gohan a “Chou Saiyajin” in Japanese. He’s basically just calling him a really strong Saiyan, not the legend (IE the Supa Saiyajin)
I would actually like to argue that Super's Broly is closer to the Legendary Supersaiyan than all of the other still living non-Goku Saiyans since Broly likely never knew anything about the legend and because he unlocked the form the same way that Goku did, whereas the other Saiyans unlocked it through training and observation. Broly was a mindless brute when he transformed and definitely wasn't observing his combatants in the hopes of learning to ascend. In many ways, Broly is a lot like Goku in demeanor and belief so he could still be a subversion of the Legendary Warrior trope that Goku's initial transformation was trying to subvert. The only real difference is that Broly was born with overwhelming power for the race and Goku was not.
i think the most reasonable explanation for all the confusion is that over time the "legendary super saiyan" myth about the original ssj1 blended with the "legendary saiyan" myth about a unique berserker saiyan with ridiculous power so that in-universe people think the super sayian transformation is both of those things. in universe 6 they never had a super saiyan (cause the saiyans never turned evil) so the legendary saiyan myth didn't get lost in the mix up
Not to nitpick, but if the Super manga and DBS: Broly differ like in the existance of full power SSJ, I would treat the movie as canon over the manga, since Toriyama was more involved with the movie
Toriyama was original creator of DB, however he didn't make all decisions. Decision making fell to whole team and companies that Toriyama was employed by. So correct way would be to formulate opinion based on final product and not purely on Toriyama's opinion..
I know GT isn't canon, but my own head cannon is SSJ4 is the True form of the super saiyan due to them needing their tail to achieve it. And if there's a legend of a super saiyan (just my head canon) then I believe the legend doesn't mention anything about them needed to lose their tail. So my head canon is SSJ4 is actually the Legendary Super Saiyan. I'm gonna get so flamed lol
A personal theory I always had that in the GT timeline, Goku being the only one able to turn ssj4 at will without blutz waves was because of him being the LSSJ.
@@JackedUpEntertainment this is false. I really don't know why people insist that there is any sort of real movie continuity because its simply not possible if you're also going to believe GT follows up the original run of Z with all the filler (which is where the water that exterminated the black water mist comes from in the GT arc where its used on baby's infections). Its physically impossible for some of these movies to have happened, like the fusion reborn movie especially. Goku and vegeta being dead would only happen if it was right after goku left the lookout. There is basically no possible instance where gohan is great saiyaman (when he should be presumed dead at this point, aka in the world of the kais,)and gotenks is ssj on screen while vegeta and goku are both dead. There is also the tree of might, which again can't happen if you also believe GT follows the original Z run. Even the fact cooler appears in GT makes almost zero sense since vegeta and goku being normal ssjs (clearly not any of the higher grades or mastered since gohan isn't a ssj yet) isn't possible since no one knew vegeta was a ssj until he saved goku's butt in the android saga and goku is out of commission because of the heart virus until they all head to the time chamber. Broly is similarly impossible for this reason, even more so because trunks is there, meaning is *has* to be dead middle of the android arc where goku *has* to be bed ridden. There isn't a movie continuity dimension that is compatible with GT or even the original Z run, it's safe to say each is their own warped dimension unconnected to GT and Z. Some iteration of the movies is likely in the GT timeline since obviously cooler appears (some bojack minions too i think...?) but the actual movies did *not* happen. You could even argue fusion reborn or some warped version of it happened in GT since it'd seem pretty damn unlikely they pulled it off first try (although it's also weird they could pull it off first try years later in entirely different bodies) but it's still far fetched. GT isn't a continuation of the movies as we know it, nor is it possible if you also believe old Z filler is canon in GT. Its just physically impossible for either of them to exist on the same timeline.
@@manipulatortrash you just have to accept that somehow both the movies and the Z anime happened in the GT continuity even tho it doesn't make sense, the Dr Slump manga is also canon to the DB manga yet that doesn't make any sense, you just have to accept that it's true even though the events don't line up, GT references The events of 4 (maybe 5 if you include return of cooler) movies in the show in someway. Yes again it doesn't make any sense at all but neither does Dragon Ball and Dr Slump sharing continuity but they very much
I know that Z Broly isn't canon, but i just love his concept so much! I know that i breaks all of what we considered a super Saiyan to the mark, but that's just what makes it special. When goku did it, it felt great, everyone was gasping, it looked godlike, and with the whole legend behind it it just makes it even better. But then trunks did it, and then vegeta did it, and so on. Everyone started doing it at the point that it felt so normal, and it took the "legendary" out of the form itself. But when Broly came, he was so different, it felt different. It wasn't just a transformation, it was a state of mind (wich my therapist wants me to leave). It's just pure and unhinged power, raw and unfiltered, it was something only brolly could use, and that is why it felt so legendary. In a world where everyone has yellow hair, the green haired guy feels more *Legendary*
Yamoshi and Goku EDIT: Its actually really interesting to me that the U6 Saiyans basically had a reverse version of the Super Saiyan Legend. I like it.
Didnt Toriyama once say that saiyans needed to have a specific power level to become a super saiyan? Wonder how strong yamoshi was if he was able to transform?
Maybe Yamoshi was at a level of 3,000,000 also? But now my question is how come he didn’t completely beat the entire race? Was he too weakened? Gokou was already weakened when fighting Freeza, but then he seem to have regain his stamina, and Freeza at max was at 120,000,000 while Gokou was at 150,000,000 and was doing much better. Maybe Yamoshi’s stamina was too low. I don’t know :/
@@azimuddin1890maybe the saiyans in yamoshis time where doing tons of push ups sit ups and drinking plenty of juice and had power levels in the millions but in my opinion i dont think yamoshi had a power level of 3 million. Toriyama never specified what power level a saiyan needed to be to go super saiyan all we know is that it would have to be higher than 120 since kid goku didnt turn ssj when krillin died and most saiyans never went through something that would make them that mad. Yamoshi probably died because of 3 reasons 1 their was a large amount of saiyans to fight against so he would probably have had to constantly use his stamina 2 he probably didn't have alot of stamina and 3 he was probably already injured and tired when he transformed since he was fighting the entire saiyan race.

@Noone-xf9uu training can play a part in it, look at gohan, he has a pure heart and had several moments of extreme rage that should have made him a super saiyan if it's just needing a pure heart and rage to trigger it, goku trained to his limits on namek when he snapped and transformed, vegeta trained until it practically broke him, and he still couldn't achieve it since he just wanted to transform, but as goku said it's born of a need, not a want, gohan and goku NEEDED the transformation, when vegeta stopped hunting the transformation he finally gained it
I always theorized hat Brolys green and blue transformation was just how his genetics Expressed SSJ. Like Gokus hair sticks up when he goes Ssj 1 but its not that same case for Gohan when he was younger. Vegetas hair barely changes while Trunks can't keep a consistent style. Like, the colors dont actually mean much outside of your genetics like your eye color.
It was his mind control device. Obviously it had done something to him to the point where while wearing the mind control device his SSJ hair is blue and even after breaking off it had some effects where his LSSJ hair was neon-green. But in movie 10 with no mind control device his hair was normal yellow
I had no idea Cell wasn’t made up of all the Z Fighters. He uses destructo disk , but that could be from Frieza, Vegeta, or Goku. I thought multiform and Solar Flare were from Tien but characters you mentioned used them as well. That makes me believe the biggest flaw Gero had was doubting the potential of humans, as it was Gohan’s human nature reacting with his Saiyan biology that unlocks his latent potential
I mean, no matter how u feel about Broly, the fact is for Super Saiyan to really fit the status of "LEGENDARY", it kinda has to be special. Like think about it, if the form is so legendary why would it be accessible to just every Saiyan And I mean come on, Broly is the only freakazoid super strong Saiyan of all the ones we've ever seen in canon, aside from the hybrids like Gohan(and also Kale), so technically he fits the legendary status best(sorry for rambling) Edit: and in addition, unlike the hybrids like Gohan, Broly is a pure 100% Saiyan with unmatched potential so he actually fits the term "high class warrior" better than anyone
It's called Legendary Super Saiyan because it was a transformation that was done only by one man. Sure, every Saiyan can transform, but there hasn't been any who did until Goku because everyone thought of it as a myth of legend.
@@nem3732 I get u, but the fact that it has been proven to be aquirable by any Saiyan, even hybrids negates it's Legendary status. Therefore if a random Saiyan pops up with unmatched potential and a crazy exclusive form, he definitely fits the mold better than Goku who just showed that it was possible
@@nem3732 And if u still don't believe me, think abt it this way, Broly was a baby at the same time that Vegeta was a baby so they're roughly around the same age, maybe even with Goku. This means that in a hypothetical scenario where Broly was scent to Earth instead of Goku, he would have fullfilled the Legend of the Super Saiyan by defeating Frieza and basically everyone else without even having to transform into anything as we saw that Broly caught up to and surpassed SS Vegeta while he was in base. So it's safe to say that the form itself is actually just a transformation and the actual fulfilment of the "1000yr" thing was Broly since he, Goku and Vegeta are all relatively around the same age, so it's still after 1000yrs, yet only one of them on the entire planet could surpass a form they never even knew existed until Goku, while in base (Very sorry for rambling)
I consider Vegeta to be the Legendary Super Saiyan of Universe 6, as he is the inspiration to Cabba to transform himself, and then _styles_ on him with the reveal of Super Blue. Arguably Goku could hold the title too, as he transformed in front of Cabba first, but Vegeta definitely made the bigger impact. As a kid, i always thought that Z-Movie Broly was possessed by a demon or similar, there's something about the way the power _explodes_ out of him uncontrollably when he transforms or attacks. And he's got such a degree of cruel evil that doesn't feel like it came from a mortal being. The restraining devices he's wearing don't shackle the power specifically, but the evil entity within him. And it would also explain the colouration differences of hair and ki - his transformation was mutated by the entity, and their Ki was blended together. (Toriyama later describing Super 2 and 3 as "mutations" of super saiyan rather than distinct forms cemented this idea in my head) It also fits with the general theme several of the later movies had of demons and other pure evils being the villains. Just my headcanon.

Never gets old LMAOFGKJHJGKL
You know toriyama thought of yamoshi on the spot😂
One thing that this retcon did about the legend of Super Saiyan, it explained how Goku was able to survive and not be relegated to history (like Yamoshi was) because of three reasons (at least in my head-canon):
Even King Kai mentions that Goku, with his new found power and rage, is struggling to maintain control, showcasing that the fight was not just an outburst of rage, but strategic fighting fuelled by rage.)
So in my mind, Goku exemplified how the Super Saiyan transformation could be harnessed ideally without the pitfalls that the original legend of Yamoshi had faced. So him being crowned the greatest fighter (at least for this saga/DBZ) makes absolute sense.
I’d argue that the non canon legendary super saiyans are more of a legendary super saiyan than the canon non legendary super saiyans
I think that super saiyan is the real legendary super saiyan so when any saiyan become a super saiyan they become the legendary super saiyan

@@celldh0825 Did you check manga or anime? I could see the manga using kanji for 超 in the text with furigana スーパー like DBS does.
The only real difference is that Broly was born with overwhelming power for the race and Goku was not.

i think the most reasonable explanation for all the confusion is that over time the "legendary super saiyan" myth about the original ssj1 blended with the "legendary saiyan" myth about a unique berserker saiyan with ridiculous power so that in-universe people think the super sayian transformation is both of those things. in universe 6 they never had a super saiyan (cause the saiyans never turned evil) so the legendary saiyan myth didn't get lost in the mix up
true
Goku: legendary super saiyan warrior
Broly: legendary super saiyan power
Not to nitpick, but if the Super manga and DBS: Broly differ like in the existance of full power SSJ, I would treat the movie as canon over the manga, since Toriyama was more involved with the movie
Toriyama was original creator of DB, however he didn't make all decisions. Decision making fell to whole team and companies that Toriyama was employed by. So correct way would be to formulate opinion based on final product and not purely on Toriyama's opinion..
plus full power broly still wasn’t designed by toriama the green hair was added in by toei full power ssj broly by definition is filler
It's like a super Saiyan bargain sale😂
I know GT isn't canon, but my own head cannon is SSJ4 is the True form of the super saiyan due to them needing their tail to achieve it. And if there's a legend of a super saiyan (just my head canon) then I believe the legend doesn't mention anything about them needed to lose their tail. So my head canon is SSJ4 is actually the Legendary Super Saiyan. I'm gonna get so flamed lol
A personal theory I always had that in the GT timeline, Goku being the only one able to turn ssj4 at will without blutz waves was because of him being the LSSJ.
Wasn't it because he haad regrown his tail and Vegeta had not and he only had his tail back when he was in SS4 mode? Baby too I guess.
Unlikely since GT takes place in the movie continuity dimension and in that one Broly is the LSSJ
@@michaelgrey1503 right, vegeta had to force his tail out to even transform, it had nothing to do with status
Yes again it doesn't make any sense at all but neither does Dragon Ball and Dr Slump sharing continuity but they very much
Great video as always. But when's the next Dragonball What-if? 😁

I don’t know :/
You're referring to S Cells, enough training, and a pure heart.
@@UnwantedGhost1-anz25 vegeta didn't have that much of a pure heart when he went super saiyan he didn't even try to help his son and bulma when they where going to die in the android saga
Like think about it, if the form is so legendary why would it be accessible to just every Saiyan
And I mean come on, Broly is the only freakazoid super strong Saiyan of all the ones we've ever seen in canon, aside from the hybrids like Gohan(and also Kale), so technically he fits the legendary status best(sorry for rambling)
Edit: and in addition, unlike the hybrids like Gohan, Broly is a pure 100% Saiyan with unmatched potential so he actually fits the term "high class warrior" better than anyone
Facts
Personally i still think the legendary part of LSSJ is about it being prophesied but this is a really cool angle to see it as!
(Toriyama later describing Super 2 and 3 as "mutations" of super saiyan rather than distinct forms cemented this idea in my head)
It also fits with the general theme several of the later movies had of demons and other pure evils being the villains.
Just my headcanon.
