Growing Beets In A 10 Gallon Grow Bag For Small Batch Of Pickled Beets

- I love to grow lots of different things, so sometimes I run out of room in the garden. When that happens, I usually turn to growing in grow bags. Even though these beets didn't do quite as well as they usually do in the ground, I think they did well enough. We enjoy making pickled beets, so that is what we use small batches of beets for. If you are interested in seeing a video of how we make pickled beets, and the recipe we use, I'll put a link below. Let us know if you've ever grown beet root in a grow bag. Thanks for watching!

One of my grandsons' absolutely LOVES pickled beets. We took him to an all-you-can-eat buffet when he was a little guy, and he filled his entire plate with nothing but pickled beets. Thanks for triggering that sweet memory. I'm going to give him your recipe along with beet seeds, and a large grow bag as part of his Christmas gift. He'll love it. I hope you and your sweetheart are enjoying a wonderful weekend. ~Margie☃🎄
Sounds like a pretty special memory to me, Margie! What an awesome Christmas gift. Very cool indeed. We got family together recently, and had some laughs reminiscing about things the kids and grandkids did. Hope you have a great weekend!
Pickled beets are pretty darn good, I think I'll try that grow bag method
Yes they are. We love them.
Love your videos
Thanks you! Glad you enjoy them!
Morning friend
Good morning!
Voles ate the ones I sowed in the raised bed, but the ones I sowed in growbags did great. Looks like a nice harvest. That's the size of beets I like to harvest.
Sorry to hear about the Vole damage. That sure can be disappointing. Glad that yours in the grow bags did well too!
Good Morning Jim - I would say you did pretty well for growing beets in a grow bag even if they were not as large. I have never tried using triple 10 fertilizer to grow them so will have to try that next year. Love pickled beets and will check out your recipe for refrigerator beets. Hope you are still doing well and have a great weekend..
Good morning Sue. I think they did good enough for us. We really like the recipe we use. It reminds me of my grandmother's pickled beets. Have a great weekend!
Yum!😋
Indeed.
That's a great harvest of beets. Nice size too. I planted my carrots in grow bags this year.
I have a lot of nitrogen in my soil and mostly get beet greens instead of beets. I still try every year, I might get it right some year. Until then I have to buy my pickled beets. I've been fertilizing with some muriate of potash I think it's called along with my garden tone and agro thrive. I'm hoping to get some beets this year. Hope all is well with you. Have a happy holiday season. Take care.
Thanks Shirley! Hope you do much better in the upcoming season. Winter will fly by before we know it. Hope you and your family have a happy holiday season also.
Looks great! I love beets pickled or not!! 😃
Thanks! Wish we had some right now.
Not a huge fan of beets but sometimes like them in my burgers. Those are some decent-sized beets; not a bad harvest, I’d say. Take care, mate, and have a lovely weekend.
Thanks! I'm going to have to try them on a burger some day. That might be good. Have a great weekend!
You gotta try on a burger. Try the pickled ones-perhaps, no more than a couple of slices. We’ve a popular burger joint here called Grill’d. Beets are quite common on their burgers-at least those I tried. Cheers!
@@RiazUddin-sk3uw I don't think I've heard of it around here. I will sure have to keep it in mind for next summer. Cheers!
when did you plant these beets? I'm over in Missouri and keep having pathetic beetroot harvests, tiny bulbs with withered tops.
I don't remember exactly when I planted them, but it was probably in early May.
I have a lot of trouble with leaf miners destroying beet leaves (and spinach) which results in tiny roots at harvest. Do you have any suggestions? In the past, I've used lightweight row cover on some crops but it is now too damaged to use. It would be nice to find a longer lasting material. Do you think that window screen would keep the adult leaf miners out? The leaf miner larvae must be very tiny since they bore tunnels inside the leaves but I don't know how big the adults are.
I'm not sure if the adults could get through window screen or not. They are pretty small....probably somewhere around a tenth of an inch. Cultivating the soil in the fall can kill some of the pupae. A good healthy population of parasitic wasps helps a lot. You can also remove damaged leaves and get rid of any eggs you can find. That seems like a lot of work to me though. Fennel flowers seem to attract a lot of small wasps around here.
