Obviously way too fast for a 2-lane Autobahn
Driver of the VW Golf was using her phone and completely distracted
Very close call at 208 km/h (130 mph) on the german Autobahn. Near collision was recorded with a dashcam. Gauge was recorded because of a fuel consumption video. Cars did not make any contact, so no accident/crash happened.

It's not the speed in and by itself, but that drivers are driving as such incredible different speeds.
I've almost caused a similar situation on the Autobahn. Looking to overtake slower vehicles, looking in my rear mirrors, seeing that there's noone even close, only to then realize that despite me already driving at 140km/h, the car behind is catching FAST.

I would say that in Germany on some days it is much safer to drive 150-170 km/h than 100-120 km/h.
170 km/h is often the flow of traffic on the left, 150 km/h in the middle and 80-100 km/h on the right.
If you're traveling at 110km/h on the right, you have to be extremely careful at all times if you just want to overtake a truck. You either constantly slow people down or wait forever until you can overtake without slowing down others.
Your “mistake” would not have happened in this form at 150 km/h. Experience has shown that usually a truck doesn't drive in front of you - the Mercedes wouldn't have had to brake so hard or - the best option - you would have accelerated 300 meters beforehand - and pulled over to the far left at 180 km/h.
Some people think this is a specifically German problem.
My experience is that things run extremely smoothly and safely here, even without a speed limit, and most people are safe drivers.
In France or Switzerland, despite the limit, you have at least the same problems and more ruthlessness. Things are really bad in Italy.

I'm saying that it occured to me way too often, in town or out, that an old person that is actually not able to drive safely anymore, still is out on the road. Ive seen too many occasions where very old people dont see and hear whats coming and almost cause a crash.
Although yes, youngsters can be dangerous, but it's a percentage of young people that actually drives recklessly, not everyone.

When watching this video for the first time, the situation gave me goosebumps already at 0:11 - *that* would be the time to start braking heavily. From my experience on the Autobahn, the *density* of traffic in the right lane is a massive risk factor. When the density is low, it usually feels OK to go above 200 km/h in the left lane, because cars from the right lane are extremely unlikely to start overtaking. On a three-lane stretch with traffic only in the right lane, i.e. with the middle lane serving as a “buffer zone”, even 300 km/h in the left lane feels doable. However, once traffic to your right densifies, bad things become likely to occur! Inevitably, someone in the right lane *will* start overtaking at some point. Not everyone has the necessary level of situational awareness. You have to consider each and every car you pass a potential threat. Each of them defines three zones you pass through while overtaking: the “brake for deer life” zone [this case, albeit barely], the “you are dead” zone and the “floor it for deer life” zone. Problems start to pile up when there is so much overlap that you constantly find yourself in multiple risky zones at once. Then it’s time to slow down. 😝 Slowing down will expand your “brake for deer life” and “floor it for deer life” zones while shrinking the “you are dead” zone (or at least making it survivable; whatever happens at 160 will be four times more violent at 320).
