Love a kick-arse cheap Riesling. Love a kick-arse expensive Riesling too!
My arse is now bruised battered and thoroughly glowing with pleasure. Holup
Wow I'll definitely go and buy the Dr Loosen riesling, I'm French and it's worth 9 euros here !
WOAH! Absolutely! Every day of the week!
Another great episode. Love how you guys aren't just 1 trick ponies. All the different types of content gives great variety, from blind tests to 1on1 and roundtable podcasts, to "oooh-weee chef" gives everybody there a voice. I know you don't really like to promote your brands but would also love to see some back of the house winemaking content too! Like especially some of the decision making involved as the product evolves.
Thanks so much! It's great to be appreciated this way - it's totally how we hoped that'd come across! We'll definitely take that advice onboard - we're coming around to the idea!
I'm glad you did this. Was cool!
Thanks mate!!!
great episode guys, loved it
Thank you so much!
Gents, 1- Thanks for all you do 2- Found your “Lil’ Ripper” #4 Dr L Dry in the states for $13 USD!!!! I had my first bottle tonight and am going back tomorrow to clean them out of any remaining bottles. Fantastic! Cheers
1. Thankyou, you are very kind and we love you - 2. It's a massive slapper - 3. make sure to spread the word ;)
Lovely episode guys!
Thank you so much!
This might be my favorite theme yet!
Haha thank you so much!
This tickled me no end. We love Dr. Loosen, and it’s $12 USD in the grocery store here! What a fun tasting. I had an Austrian Riesling on a SE European wine river cruise last year that changed my life. Riesling has such an incredible range, this was such a fun way to explore that!
Ah that's what we hoped! Thank you so much! Super fun way to explore it huh?
I was sure the Meadowbank was gonna be the best in class... until I saw my favourite fridge filler, the Doctor L. I've spent a bit of time in France, Germany and Austria over the last month, knocking back plenty of rizzas. The ubiquitous Domaine Durrmann of Alsace wowed us with some totally left of centre rieslings (and a tasty sylvaner too), all for around 16-18EU.
So good to have Noah back on, Riesling bracket 😍😍 - really surprised by the Frankland Estate showing!
Boom! He's back! Haha
The father the son and the Mosel😂😂😂👍
I Would Like to see the Same Tasting after Five Years and See how they are develop .Riesling is very age worthy
Riesling is VERY age-worthy huh?!
@@wineforthepeople they develop quite a Bit even in in the First 5-10 years.some can age for Dekades
@@andreasdietrich7005 I especially love a Riesling with strong TDN impact after 5-10 years...wild stuff.
Riesling - the Kerosene you can drink without it hurting you!
I love Australian Riesling. I don’t know what it is about Australia but the Riesling has a steely acid note that makes me love it more than German Riesling.
Love Dr.Loosen, so much wine for the pricepoint his wines are at! Knochentrocken cuvée and the cuvée with Telmo Rodriguez are my favorites but I don't know if they sell those in Australia.
Hmm not that we've seen - but damn, it's be AWESOME to try them out!
Well done on selling out the Dr Loosen!
as in none available at different drop :)
Bahaha I thought that read: Selling Out To Dr Loosen lol!
Ernie Loosen coming through with the value bangers. I’ve had a Feinherb in the same range (if that’s not this) and it’s excellent.
Every single time it seems - one of the GOATS!
@@wineforthepeople
Absolutely. But also really reliable at the lower end. They have a nice range called Villa Wolf, which at the very least offer lovely varietal examples at a very good price. Including an absolute banger rose Pinot that is available in giant schlong magnums.
@@adamg.manning6088 We are ALL FOR Giant Schlong Magnums lol - if only they built fridges that'd take them!
There's a whole stack of quality Australian Riesling for sub 25. Castle Rock from Rob Diletti, Henley farms Eden Valley Riesling, kilkanoon Morts block, Neil Pikes Limefinger all come to mind
Australia punches pretty hard on the value Riesling spectrum, that's for sure!
That Dr Loosen looks like the regular Dr L (not the Dr L dry), is it definitely the dry? As I really want to get some now!
I think it's the 2023?? Nobody is using the correct bottle image
Pretty sure it was the regular!
You can actually get dry auslese from Germany which has botrytized grapes in the blend. Markus Molitor has a range of such wines.
Can you give an example? It can surely only be a very minimal amount of botrytis to maintain an Auselese must weight.
Not saying you can't get them! Just saying they're hard to find is all.
NEED MORE MARKUS MOLITOR!
@@wineforthepeople
They make a Mosel Sauvy B for Lidl UK, and a Mosel Blend for EU Lidl. $20 Equiv and absolutely great fun.
@@adamg.manning6088 Mosel Sauvy B?! I don't think we've ever tried Sauvy B from Germany! Is it any good?
I tried that dr L last week, same vintage and then the meyer-fonne, same vintage
I absolutely cannot even fathom how that dr L is as remarkably good as you’ve gassed it up to be
Unless i’m missing something?
The meyer-fonne is more achieving is every aspect
Do you guys taste at room temp or chilled
Hey! Different strokes for different folks! We taste them all at ambient (15 deg C) - particularly to see any flaws that chilling can hide!
@@BrenCarter_WFTP good to know
Riesling in particular looks extremely different at 15 v 10
But still a massive fan of the show
Would love a chenin bracket and i’m sure Noah would too
How good would a Chenin bracket be?? I think he did one recently - I missed out on it!
Absolutely! A little chill can make any wine better!
Just do Riesling every week from now on.
Haha lets see what we can do :)
"I was here" ... "I was here to witness it ... because ... what's the point of doing cool shit if your friends don't see it happen"
LOL another zinger by Henry Doyle!
Germany putting everybody else IN THEIR PLACE!!! Daddy of Rizza baby
Boom! A little oxidative handling goes a long way it seems!
Italy and Australia are doing doing great Riesling.
@@numanuma20 I didn’t say they weren’t
@@numanuma20 I am fascinated by this - what Italian Rieslings do you recommend? I'm only really aware of the G.D. Vajra one...
Ah, the world of Italian Rieslings is like a treasure hunt. Let's uncover some hidden gems together!
Is the loosen 20 or 22?
I believe it's 23 - latest release.
In Singapore the cheapest price is 48 dollars...
Oooft - are wines usually expensive in Singapore?
@wineforthepeople so to be fair I did some further digging, and the best price I found for single purchase is 39, 3 for 105, still quite the delta. In Singapore the alcohol tax is by abv and comes to between 8 to 10 dollars a bottle, plus gst, plus low volume shipping since we have only 6 million inhabitants. High cost of business plus high markups, I would say Australian wine is about 30 to 40% more ex here than in Australia. The flat rate alcohol tax shifts the sweet spot for a cheap and good wine well towards the high 30ies.
@@danielmagg6096 Oh wow! I had no idea! So $39 is a pretty good deal?
@wineforthepeople I suppose so, I bought the 3 x 35 :) after your rave reviews:). Honestly no idea how 24 dollars are possible in Australia. In Germany it is 9 euro including 19% gst.
@@danielmagg6096 Oh that's easy! Shipping cost is around $4/bottle - then you have 29% tax, then a 10c per bottle container deposit, and 10% GST (yes, the government taxes their own tax) - and margins in between of 50% at Importer, 50% at WS...
