    I'm located on the east coast of the US, wine searcher says theres a place near me selling a bottle of Les Larmes for $80 USD!

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  2 роки тому

      Absolutely! There've been other comments on here stating as low as $50 USD - at that price - that's utterly INSANE value!

    I live two hours from Anderson valley cannot find that Pinot I need too! I never heard of it which is crazy considering I try to find a new wine every time I have a bottle but hey I guess I gotta make a road trip a couple hours away! lol

    I had the Littorai last week, and it does an innnteresting dance. It's simultaneously subtle and dainty & dangerous and overwhelming. I've had sonoma pinot that I find more harmonious, but I appreciated the experience. Cheers to good American wine.

    It is good henry keeps you honest with the blind tasting. Knowing previous editions from the winemaker makes you understandably biased

      100%! We all offer our perspectives that are valuable in their own right: Noah (knows the rules), Brendan (knows the rules that can be broken), Henry (has no idea what the rules are)

      Zach, you're in a VERY lucky position - i'd be going out and trying that Pinot ASAP - have you managed to get yourself a bottle yet?

    I’m in Sonoma lol. I’m watching this for fun. Littori Pinot Noir ranges from 81.00 to 600.00 a bottle here california and I’m only a 2 hour drive from Anderson Vally where it’s produced.

    On release the Les Larmes is around 80 to 90 USD. Most of the production is sold DTC through allocation. Littorai is a legendary producer.

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  2 роки тому

      We can completed understand the DTC pathway for these wines; we'd certainly sign up ourselves for it!

    Interesting to see you all enjoying the American wine as every one I've tried was a frontal assault on the senses and not in a good way, willing to try again though, can get the littorai for around £60-70 so around 100-120 aud

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  2 роки тому +1

      That's certainly the case in our prior experience, although in the last 20 or so years there has been a more mindful approach by American producers towards restraint and elegance - typically in Pinot Noir production. Some very intriguing examples from exciting terroir - it's definitely worth a re-look.

    I can believe the Anderson Valley Pinot. I've had very fine Pinot Noir from Navarro Vineyards.

      I think there's been a more mindful approach to American Pinot Noir by producers in the last 20 years - and now we're starting to see that quality-focus seep through to the wines. It's an exciting time to watch these wines come forward leaps and bounds!

    The 2020 Littorai Les Larames is $50 USD at K&L Wine in California. Why is wine so overpriced in Australia?

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  2 роки тому +1

      You're kidding...seriously?! Woah, that's BONKERS good value! Unfortunately it's multi-faceted as to why (some) imported wine in Australia is expensive. Obviously the shipping cost is high as we're quite remote to the rest of the world (shipping companies charge a premium on containers coming this way, as it may be some time before they get them back again) - then there's taxation, but that's largely based on the value of the wine, not the alcohol - therefore the largest impact is: the price the producer is selling the wine at to the importer. In the USA, the demand for local wines is typically higher than the supply - which means there's little incentive for USA producers to export their wines to places like Australia - meaning they ask higher prices to the importer, which mean higher taxes, and higher retail prices in Australia.

      @@wineforthepeople Thanks for sharing your insight. If the Australian people seek better value look towards Costco. Costco absolutely dominate the wine business here in the US and the values and customer service is unimpeachable. As a lover of Italian wine and frequent traveler it never ceases to amaze me that I can often times find the wines cheaper at my local Costco than shopping direct in Montalcino, Barolo or Valpolicella. The trade-off being the selection of labels and vintages are somewhat limited and location dependent.

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  2 роки тому

      @@Innovate22 I wish! Costco don't really exist in Australia; and they're not allowed to sell wine either...which makes things difficult!

    Can anyone explain what the price to # they're saying means? Like 60 for 6, 40 for 12, etc?

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  23 дні тому +1

      Sure! Our rating system considers how much we'd spend and how much we'd buy - so 60 for 6 is basically: we'd buy 6 bottles at $60.
      Rather than a single point score, which doesn't really tell you much, we have two scores that indicate how much we want to consume the wine, and how much financial pain we'll go through to get it - which puts both cheap and expensive wines on par with each other.
