- thanks very much to all of you for all of your comments, messages, and responses to the stuff i put out. i read almost everything i get, especially on twitter, and it's hard to put into words just how much it means to me. thank you all again
/ danooct1
hopefully you enjoy this video too. it nearly broke me a few times when blaster refused to work on camera but after a couple weeks of effort i got this footage. sorry i didn't balance the colors on the footage during the infection routine, i messed that up. overall i dunno how this video turned out so please let me know what you think.
the DDR machine being included was a spur of the moment decision that made me really want to run the worm on a physical network, even though it didn't really have much to do with being an arcade machine as opposed to just a monitor, but whatever. before you ask (but i'm sure you'll ask anyway), i got the cabinet as a graduation gift from my parents for finishing up my masters this past summer, and i bought it from a local arcade. it cost eighty million dollars.
for DDR vids: / danooct1alt
maybe i could find some malware that'll work with DDR at the same time for some funny videos or something.
if you're reading this, you are cool. thanks for sticking with me / danooct1

Interesting fact, We called this "Black Tuesday" it hit us late monday night and took out a nation of companies tuesday. As a tech support admin at a outsourced Dell call center, when this version hit us, it caused extreme chaos. Many of our clients including Dell went offline. We were waiting on Trendmicro to help and fix, but it was taking too long. So I then started about 2 am that night, when the staff was let go, to begin my adventure into how this thing worked, what it was, and how to stop it. I didnt have the knowlege of what the payload was doing, only the results.I had only been an admin for about 6 months. I could see all the hosts were chatting up the subnet range in sequence X.X.X.1 , X.X.X.2 - all the way up to 254.254.254.254 So it had to be a service or program running in TSR.After attempting system wipe and reloads of the 400 machines failed. I unplugged a machine from the network, and looked for modified files in windows tree with date stamps of the current day. I found the payload using a bootable dos disk and the file was sitting in windows/system32/drivers in my variant of this virus.. Then I deleted it, created a notepad file, renamed it to match the payload filename and locked it down in dos with heavy attrib commands, preventing anyone the ability to modify my fake notepad file. after testing the machine, it was fine. The virus didn't have the authority to overwrite my notepad file and couldn't load and run. (It had to ftp via smbv1 first then launch on the victims.) We were the first company back online by Tuesday night. Dell found out that I had a patch fix and secretly asked for it. I helped them, and later about a month after all was calm. I got a secret payment from Dell. It was a nice bonus for simple search and find. I still have my Dell Axim that showed up at Christmas that year. It sits in my memorabilia case. what a horrible 2 days that was

I laughed when I saw XP on the arcade cabinet.
That's the best usage of an arcade cabinet if I've ever seen one.
Agreed.
Exercise? HELL NO, we playing WINDOWS XP
all DDRs from Japan and US are running xp.
+Jay Pony right
+AfterBurnerTeirusu Other games, such as Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3, ran Linux.
Anyway, most of them are heavily protected with dongles and stuff. Recently though, you can run Taito Type X (an Windows-based arcade system) games such as Battle Gear 4 Tuned using a loader program.
Im switching to arcade systems now, laptops are useless
+drkastenbrot Switching too, my I7 @4ghz is too sloooowww
+Redstoner26 Not even OC'd?
MrSlashStudios The i7 is overclocked, yeah.
Redstoner26 Can't you clock it higher? :P
My i5 3570K is overclocked to 4.2GHz and I might go 4.4GHz.
Just a thought :)
No, 4Ghz is enough :D
Ohh.. maybe not...
DDR machines can be laptops if youre strong enough
you also have to do a metric ton of LSD before doing it
Anythings a -dildo- laptop if you're -brave- strong enough
Anythings portable if your strong enough
When you close it, you get hit by the monitor.
"Let's D.D.R.!"
That "RIP" on the laptop cracked me up. Lovely little "gotcha" there.
oh god i didnt even know you played DDR. freaked out when i saw that.
+DDRAxel i've been playing since DDRMAX on the PS2, i think i got it in 2002 or 2003 and been playing it ever since
Freaked me out man. Love your virus videos and found out about your ALT channel. Its great.

Stepmania and D.D.R are always fun!
+danooct1 how much did you snag that machine for? did you customize it as well? you should make a video about it if there's some info to it :D
I think my family computer may have actually been infected with this when I was a kid, I distinctly remember my computer having that notification followed by an imminent shutdown. No one knew how to fix it at the time, so we had to get someone to re-install windows for us.
could have been sasser too, which causes a similar crash-to-reboot cycle
How does one type their essay on a DDR machine?

Congrats on 75k subs!
Hearing the "Billy" name associated with this Blaster virus just weirdly makes me think of the Malaysian Transformers Headmasters dub, where Blaster was renamed "Billy" and then is rebuilt into Twincast but is renamed "Blaster" in said dub.
my jaw dropped when seeing the ddr machine with Windows xp. congrats on 75k, here's to 25000 more to get the big 100k!
So wait if you made a new text file called billy yourself, would it trick it into never infecting your computer?
Nice DDR machine! How good are you at the game?
+dj505Gaming i have some videos of me playing on my alternate channel, the link is in the description
+danooct1 Nice! Have you ever tried Stepmania/OpenITG?

there are some videos from oITG on that channel
+danooct1 I'll have to check those out. Thanks!
Damn, your channel is expanding extremely fast compared to the past 7 or so years. glad to see you're becoming more popular, you deserve it :D
Thanks for being a god among men, Dan.
I can't wait for you to get UA-cam Verified. :)
+Video James i sent a message to partner support about the verification tick and they said i'm not qualified lol. i guess technically you need 100k+ subs but i've seen numerous channels well below that, maybe their MCNs had something to do with that.
+danooct1 Please can you do a video on bonzi buddy please
+NrT Gaming please no.
XD
+danooct1 you need to have 1000 or 10000+ followers on google+
man I remember this, it hit me in the 90s , you can also disable RPC Calls , and it stops it from infecting your PC and spreading
Congrats on 75K, bro! Love your videos! You were the one who inspired me to begin using vintage virtual machines. Keep up the good work!
Congratz on 75k subs. Your videos are always cool to see. Keep up the great work!
I've been watching your videos for a very long time - But only recently subscribed (and in fact got involved with YT). Thanks for the great content! It's super interesting :)
I remember this virus personally.
I had it when I was 13-14 years old, that shutdown message still hunts my dreams
Congratulations on the milestone. It is channels like yours that make youtube great, honestly. You can take great pride in what you do here. Thanks for all the entertainment!

there's a small mall near my house that has a couple Arcade cabinets with some classic games.
one of em crashed and had a windows error in it. thats when i knew you could have windows on one of those lol

fyi most cabs still run on xp embedded
I saw a SEGA Rally 3 machine that said "Welcome to the Found New Hardware wizard" from Windows XP.
They use Windows 7 on the screens at Sonic, ‘cause I saw a BSOD on of them. I also saw one on the menu at a restaurant in a mall in California.
EVERY TIME i got to walmart you see one of the self checkouts crashed or has a bluescreen of death

you have a ddr cabinet running windows for virus testing. you're now my new favorite person.
try controlling it with the pads -- left for arrow keys, right for mouse/numpad (mousekeys).
I was definitely not expecting that last machine to be a DDR cabinet lmao but congrats on 75k dude!

+Plat1num yes
kill those who misspell the names of those which i love

oh, well then in that case you've solved all of youtubes comments by telling that random person on the internet to kill themselves

why
why do people need to die by your hand
and your hand SPECIFICALLY
because they like something you don't
they didn't even bring it up

Congratulations on 560+ videos, 18 Millions+ views and more importantly 75,206 subscribers. Can't wait to see what are you going to show for 100k subscribers!
bro, when you panned left, i lost it. that was brilliant.
I remember having to clear this off of a lot of computers of family and friends when it was running rampant. The RPC crash was the only part any of them noticed since at the time most of my area was still on dial-up but the RPC part was annoying enough by itself.
+Vrorag fun fact about blaster and dial up - it sleeps until the user has dialed in to their ISP before it tries to start spreading or DDoSing, otherwise the user would wonder why their computer was randomly trying to dial into the internet.
+danooct1 Clever girl...
I fondly remember having this virus on my Win XP years ago. I had a machine that ran XP and 98, both of which had no antivirus, so inevitably both systems got infected quite badly (Win 98 became kind of unusable because of all the infections).
I never used my XP for pretty much anything (which made it kind of pointless to have it), so how the blaster got to it I don't quite know, maybe because it was dual-boot? But it was really tedious. And wouldn't you know it, as quietly as it came it went. To this day I don't know how, but it just suddenly disappeared and never came back.
He's got an XP DDR machine.
The absolute fucking madman.
ITG was the pinnacle of DDR games, a local arcade had a hacked ITG cab with every DDR mix and a bunch of custom stepfiles + the ability to run whatever stepmania stuff you wanted off a flash drive.
I remember discovering you 4 years ago, back at something like 10-20k subs, maybe less. These actually got me into computers. You still make great videos. Keep up the good work!

My first job out of high school was as an intern under the direct supervision of the department Information Specialist for the county of Sonoma in California and the w32 Blaster worm destroyed our entire network and I had to reimage over a hundred computers personally
Arcade Machines
SHOULD RUN WINDOWS
...........XP!
guns should
SilverGenerations Studios most arcade machines run win xp already.
TheTechnoProject and they run the roms of the games on the arcade machine.
I found that out at pizza place. The arcade machine ran on Windows 95.
I think.
yes it's WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED!
Congrats Dan!
*furiously dancing on pad* just browsing the Internet with my arcade cabinet
That moment when the labtop knows what your trying to do and kills itself
Lol
I'd like to have that DDR XP and pull it out when my friends come over to look cool ;-;
1:48 man, that's insane !
The arcade cabinet cost 80 million dollars? My jaw dropped. Mindboggling numbers!
Congrats dude!
Let me play some DDR. Imma minesweeper on it.
good job on reaching 75k subs
That computer knew what was coming
wait..... if it creates a file called "billy" to prevent re-infecting couldent you just leave the file there and it wont be infected?
I think so.
Hey, I saw you on the last comment.
??
I think removing the worm from the registry also removes the "billy file", not sure tho
since 5k subs. seemed so fast you gained over 70k subs
I cant believe ive been watching you since 10k
That DDR is sick.
Can't wait to run Windows NT on those.
+ThePikacraft Channel Don't forget the Billy file :P
I wish this was available in 2003 i was kicking my tower thinking it was fucked..lol i even formatted it a few times after putting everything back on it was still doing the shut down thing i didn't know it was a virus at the time.
I found out another worm named Welchia was able to defeat Blaster. You should do a video on _that_ worm!
Put the DOS Espacio virus on the arcade cabinet thing now you have a arcade Pac-Man at home :D
Good Job Dan :D keep posting more fancy viruses!!!!
congrats! you made it far
"I never thought I'd make it this far..."
Well, Dan. A year and halfish later you're rapidly approaching 200 000 subscribers!
I remember the 17th of March when blaster got on school computers in my school
This is amazing. Do you have any footage of the arcade machine being desinfected? Or used as a pc? That would be a blast.
Congratulations!
Congrats, here's to 75K more
I’m happy danooct be using Microsoft virtual pc 2007 otherwise i wouldn’t have known. it’s a microsoft-created VM app

These videos are amazing.
OH MY GOD DANOOCT IS A DDR KID
my hero
why am I not surprised you put windows on your ddr machine? must have been installing dos on a 4790k with a solid state lol. keep up the good work, I'm a long time viewer :D
Going off the title of the video and the thumbnail, I was kind of expecting you to (literally) blast Windows XP with that arcade cabinet.
R.I.P windows 2000 :(
+ im a new sub so i might be the reason of your 75K :) :)
I remember that one. Gotten unlucky on my Windows XP in October 2012. What was worse, when my XP was booted, there was nothing but a black screen with the cursor and about a minute, the worm activated. My second big brother tried to fix my XP, but it ended up making things worse :(
I had to use my Dad's Windows 2000 when that happened. One thing that annoyed me was the damn fan. Every once in a while, it made a buzzing noise. What I had to do is hit the top of the flat computer tower. About in early December, my 1st big brother got me one of his older hard drives since he got himself a new one.
URGH! That was not fun X_X Bugger!
Dan, XP on a DDR Machine?
you are a G O D
I remember Blaster. My home had a generic computer running Linux as a router, so Blaster never infected us. Am I even allowed to say that considering that Dan don't like Linux? Haha. Anyway, congrats man, I love your videos.
Great work dude!!!
Awh ye Dan, you're the best, Dan. Congrats, Dan.
Just watching some usual danooct video, about viruses and shit, then..
BAM! DDR machine with XP.
Damn that's unexpected and awesome.
One of my old PC's got infected the Blaster worm but what is funny is the antivirus caught it in some rogue e-mail right away but not before it activated once and I got the shutdown dialog to which I already knew to run "shutdown /s" to negate it. Only time my PC was infected by a widely spread virus; glad to have evaded the rest.
You're welcome! Your videos are very intresting!
When I saw the thumbnail I was about to be like "you're going to play Doom on a DDR machine arent you?"
Then I realized this was a Danooct1 video, even better.
