I really like how viruses do so much to hide themselves. E.G only triggering on some dates, only triggering if there are particular phrases. It mimics how actual viruses can't be too brutal or they'll kill their host before they can spread.
Brunosky, Articbomb is actually a trojan, because it doesn't replicate itself by itself (worms) or infecting a file (virus). Instead, trojans just execute their malicious code, and try to hide themselves as legitimate software.
also for those who noticed the "buymeoverwatch.plz" domain, I don't actually want/need anyone to buy it for me, though i do appreciate the offers! that was just the domain my friend flappy wanted for his email entry in the video.
something about worms like this is so fascinating to me. worms built off of pure anger or other emotion. these are the kinds of worms that actually scare me, even if I'd never be targeted by them. that's another interesting thing about this worm, it's so specific. it's like the author tried as hard as they could to keep anyone besides their specific target safe.
In my teenage years I have been infected by the Magistr.B. Fortunately, it didn't succeed in overwriting my BIOS. It was slightly different than this version though. I don't think it required specific law-related documents, and instead of overwriting the MBR, it would delete all partitions but C:. You would make new ones, start putting stuff in it... only for it to delete the partitions again a few days later. Also, it wouldn't overwrite the executables rendering them useless, no... it would just infect them all. The worst thing about this is that your computer was still usable and you might be clueless about the virus, taking a while to realize the situation and what you needed to do (basically, format then reinstall everything).
Yeah, with a lot of the viruses featured on this channel, you get this sense that there is some sense of either vigilantism (like blaster), or trolling, but this virus is clearly just a vindictive and targetted attack against a profession.
+Weegeesquare fun story about clippy, he actually completely broke an installation of outlook during one of the recording sessions in this video, in fact he broke it so completely that even uninstalling/reinstalling office didn't work, and i wound up just formatting the drive and reinstalling windows 98. it might not have been clippy but i'm blaming it on him anyway
danooct, I've been subscribed to you for a couple of years now - I LOVE watching your videos, your casual demeanor, your enthusiasm, your knowledge and ability to make it accessible to "Computers for Dummies" cases such as myself. I'm not kidding when I say that I look forward to your videos and do a happy dance whenever I see a new one. Keep it up man, we love you!
It’s been 4 years and we’re still watching. These videos are really enjoyable, as someone who has a fear of computer viruses leftover from bricking my mom’s computer in my childhood. Your dry sense of humor always cracks me up. Hope you’re doing well.
This channel is a serious resource for me in my studies of malware and cybersecurity. Understanding how past threats work can better help us understand and combat modern ones. Thank you for putting in countless hours researching and watching all the horrific ways computers can be murdered. :D
+Russell Royer (iYamWhatIYam) i've been using it for videos that wind up being more complicated to record than usual, which necessitates a separately recorded voice over. a lot of the DOS viruses and stuff really don't need/have information available for such an in-depth backstory either. but i'll try to keep making videos like this at regular intervals.
I randomly found one of your videos a couple weeks ago and you quickly became one of my favorite channels. Over the course of a few days I went through and watched every one of your past videos entirely- really good stuff. Keep up the good work man!
Wow, this has gotten to be one of the most creative and complex-working viruses I've seen. Great video as always, this is definitely one of my favorites so far. Congratulations on the 100,000 subscribers, I've only discovered your channel recently but I've been really enjoying your videos. You deserve many more. Spectacular overview, as usual. Been watching your channel for about 5 years now, and your content is better than ever. Keep up the good work, and congratulations!
this video really does this worm justice (PUN INTENDED) of how wildly complex and despair inducing it is! when these kinds of hardcore viruses were bouncing around i was a bit tiny to understand, and my family tended to use macs so we were never really affected :P

You rock man, you deserve each and every subscriber. I've been watching your videos for some time and what you do is super interesting. Keep it up, and congrats!!
Hey ho!! I found your channel via UA-cam's recommended videos and I had to subscribe immediately!! Always been interested in how viruses, malware, worms and all that work in general and I often had to surpress my curiosity because it's probably not a good idea for someone who isn't as knowledgeable with computers to try out viruses for fun... uuhmm. But gladly I don't need to do that with your videos!! Keep up the good work, I love how calm your videos are without jumpcuts or overdone effects or anything. Simple, informative and fun. Thanks!!
This worm reminds me of Stuxnet. Like Magistr did for you, Stuxnet got me into studying malware and information security. The idea that worms and viruses are no longer just something a bored programmer would come up with for the fun of it, that it could be specifically directed at a target with motivation and intent. It's always incredible learning about what makes these things tick. It's like biology on a computing level - you get to see the evolution of malware. Some are natural and random, probing the limits of new systems and trying out new things, while others like this one are bred and built with purpose. Your videos never cease to amaze me, from the simple Suicide DOS virus (the first one I ever watched on your channel), to Maldal, Cascade and now this. I am so glad that I subscribed to you, and I'm so proud to be a counted as a part of your channel's growth. Congratulations, and here's looking forward to more videos in the future! :)

Aaaah I've been binge watching your stuff for quite some time now. Absolutely love every single one of them. It changed the Internet Explorer title to 'Marije was here!' and did some other stuff as well. Might look into that again some day.
Your channel has helped me a lot with a huge project on malware I have been working on for several months for my hardware and networking class. It seems few people are willing to make videos of what these malware look like in action. Thank you!
Thanks danooct1, for all the effort you put into all your videos, and all the Windows/DOS reinstalls you have done to make all these videos. I always refer people to watch your videos since they are so well done, and I hope you keep the content coming.
I only found your channel about 3 weeks ago and never left a comment, but I would like to congratulate you on reaching 100k subs. You are extremely entertaining and thorough with talking about these viruses and I really enjoy your videos. Enjoy that Play button my friend and keep up these amazing and interesting videos!
you should do videos about modern day virus' and malware. I got this one adware bug once it infected my steam and my steam would begin displaying intrusive adware. No matter what i did, even a system restoral, or recovery, steam would still show signs. So i resulted to nuking my harddrive from orbit with Dban write zero. just to be sure.
No need to find a fancy modern virus tho...I once nuked my laptop with Avast. Yeah, Avast the antivirus! Since Explorer.exe caught a pretty mind malware, it trashed the file while trying to quarantine and fix it. Needless to say I had to reset and install everything back again...isn't an antivirus supposed to be a little more gentle with files?
as i understand it, there were exploits in the 9x kernel that were used to elevate the virus's privileges to ring0 which allowed it to interact with the hardware. this was made much more difficult when running on windows NT.
I know what a rootkit is, but rootkits infect the operating systems. I've never seen a rootkit infect actual hardware like the BIOS or CMOS memory on NT based systems before.
Certain rootkits do infect the BIOS or MBR or the hard drive itself in such a way that it will load the malware first, then the malware will load Windows already infected. Look up Regin or Equation Drug...one of the modules infects the hard drive firmware so that any amount of formatting (quick, full, DoD, etc.) will do nothing to the malware. The BIOS, however, can be reflashed rather easily with tools today, but back during CIH's time, the motherboard manufacturers never took physical security into consideration.
Your videos are awesome, man! I've been watching your videos for just about 7 years now and they've always been amazing. You're one of my favourite youtubers ^^ Keep being awesome, congrats on 100,000!

Congratulations on 100,000+ subscribers! I've always had an interest in computers and technology ever since when Windows 95 came out when I was only six years old. When Windows 95 first came out, it was also the very first Windows version I've ever used. Even back in the mid to late 90s and ever since then, I've had always been interested in how computer viruses, worms, and Trojans work. It's no wonder why anti-virus software and security has come a long way since the MS-DOS/Windows 9x era. I've always loved watching your virus videos. Keep up the good work!
congrats to 100k subscribers! I have been subbed for quite a while, and it is really great to see how much your channel and content has improved and still is to this day! I'm looking forward to more videos. keep up the awesome content!
Good job Dan. I remember a few years ago when you only had around 13,000 subs. I was completely fascinated by your vids, as they were nothing like anything I had ever seen on UA-cam. I still like to go on a binge watch of all your virus vids every now and again, just for shits and giggles. Thank you for the good content ma boi
I've found this channel a few days ago, although I'm really interested in the topic a long time ago. So this is the proof that you haven't reached everybody yet and a lot more to come :) It's really interesting what you are doing!
Thanks for the awesome channel and congrats on the subscribers! You're definitely one of the more unique channels I'm subscribed to and I'm always excited to see your stuff in my subscription feed.

Holy cow, this worm seems pretty destructive, not to mention obsessive. The guy who made this must have been pretty angry!
maybe he was wronged by the law system and wanted sweet revenge.

So much for the repeated "YOUARESHIT" comments in an infected file. That author must have had issues with his life and the justice system.

Happy 100,000 man! These videos were key in helping me to start studying Cyber Security, so thank you danooct1 for helping me find my calling!

Congratulations! I love your channel and the viruses you test, I really hope you like your 100,000 subscribers. You really deserve it
congrats to 100k subscribers!
I remember watching when this came out.
Best Danooct1 video yet
Thank you too, for making these amazing videos! I've been watching for years, and I'm so glad you finally hit 100K!
Been following for more than 6 years I think. You're great Dan. Keep it up!
Congrats on 100K! I love watching yoir videos and it makes me more and more interested in computer viruses, malware and computers in general.
