I had the same problem with the solar charger not charging my ring doorbell II. I called Ring and they advised me that I could have a faulty Ring Doorbell. I ordered another and they gave me a $100.00 discount since my unit was just over a year old and past the warranty period. Received the new doorbell and replaced the original with the new unit and now all is good now. On sunny days it continues charge and the battery level stays charged. On cloudy days I do lose a little battery life but not much at all. Unit works great and no more swapping out batteries unless I just want alternate the spare batteries I had purchased prior to getting the solar charger.
Thank you for sharing your review. I myself purchased the ring solar panel for the orginal ring door bell back in January of this year. My door bell is facing West and recieves no direct sunlight taking into consideration I have an awning directly over the enterance. Considering it's winter and the weather has been somewhat gloomy, my battery life has not gone below 84% and goes up as high as 99% since mounting the bell that one time and I haven't removed it since. What I did do was charge the ring door bell to 100% before mounting and monitored it's battery life since then and rarely use any of the motion features; this could be one of the reasons my battery life has sustained it's charge. As of today, my battery shows 93%. I'm looking forward to hearing your updates on any noticable difference since relocating your orginal panel and your review on the ring 2 doorbell panel as well.
Yomiko Miyamoto Thanks for the for commenting glad it's working for you I have not try the other way yet because my old channel got banned and I lost my motivation but hopefully I will get it back soon like and subscribe it would be greatly appreciated.
I know this was 3 yrs ago but I was thinking about getting one of these. My porch has a cover and doesn’t get direct sunlight. So you’re saying without direct sunlight it still charges?
This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
so glad to see here that my new ring with solar charger isnt the only one NOT charging here... i will test it for a few more days and if not charging properly then will return it back to amazon!
My ring is in full sun all day from sunrise to sunset. The door has no porch covering it and it fas=ces southwest. I find my battery dies in about 3 week regularly. This was a waist of $49 as far as I am concerned.
Thanks for sharing the review. My Ring First Gen only requires charging every 30-45 days, with all notifications enabled (10-15 per day). I don't see the solar charging offering much value for my situation.
Just a note: I had mine attached for two days to a completely dead doorbell and it never charged. I am fully charging from the wall outlet and hoping for the best when I reinstall it outside on the solar panel.
oflanagans1 How many hours of direct sunlight does it get a day where it's located? I changed mine to a full charge before I put mine out. It don't keep it charged in my experience but it helps. I will be putting out a video on the new RING SECURITY SYSTEM SO LIKE & SUBSCRIBE FOR UPDATES!!!!
I did the exact same thing and now my doorbell is off-line and can’t get it back on. Does the battery have to be completely charged when you hook up the doorbell to the solar panel?
Unfortunately they don't sell that solar panel model for Ring 1 anymore and switched to a different model which is crap. I have this one but it stopped working and the later model for Ring 1 bell works like crap.
I just purchased the solar panel for my doorbell and installed it this morning after charging the battery to 100%. After one hour my battery was down to 92% and after 3.5 hours it is 87%. Does anyone know why it would be discharging the battery instead of charging it? It is mounted on the side of the house directly in the sun facing south with no porch overhang.
Guys, isnt it better to just add small solar panel to the bell two contacts? The original you are using has a very small area of sunlight to gather 😊 i will try it first i think
ive had mine for 6 months and was working well, south facing location with full sun all day minimal traffic basically leaving and coming home from work.. the past couple weeks ive noticed that the battery keeps dropping in charge amount. now today got a email saying the battery needs charged. uggg this is why i bought the solar, so i didnt have to take it down to charge it.
After returning my first solar charger because it didn't work, my second charger doesn't work too. $50 for a nice base for mounting my ring doorbell :(
Them panels are rubbish i have the ring 4 and got the solar panel at the same time and was always in direct sunlight but i still had to charge it myself so i then bought a bigger panel to mount on the wall an that one works fine how people can say these little things work is beyond me
I think its actually better, if you use the battery on it's normal use and charge it when it is low. Battery life shortens, when its draining and charging constantly.
richard munir sorry my old channel got banned for asking people to subscribe to it for spam so I lost a lot of motivation be I want to get back at it I appreciate the good feedback please like and sub for updates: )
You don’t need a solar charger if your Ring device is wired because it is already wired to your electricity. This is only for the battery operated Ring doorbell 2 device.
Save yourself the money. Cheaper ones on Amazon. Bought a larger monocrystaline solar panel with a charger already hooked up. Battery went from 50 to 100% in a day. These little solar panels are a waste
Do people seriously expect this to charge or maintain the batteries on this device, it probably barely chucks out 100 milliamps if you are lucky, yes it sticks 5 volts in but only at a ridiculous amount of charge, probably not enough to light a tiny LED. This is a gimmick to the uninitiated. It takes a 1amp charge several hours to charge the battery from zero. This will barely do anything. You would need a couple of A4 size panels to notice a real difference, what they get you to do is to turn down your motion alerts, that is what saves you the most energy, just have it working when you press the button !
Sitges Villa Apartment agreed. The solar panels are too small to maintain a proper charge. Constant charging and discharging the battery in small increments will shorten battery life.
Ya it's pretty much junk I still keep it connected Because if it dies all the way. It will let it charge just enough that people can still ring the doorbell
These things are bullshit, they don't work, there are far too many people who say the same thing, mine never worked, Ring sent it to me as i was inquiring about the purchasing the device, these things should be re-called in mass..

Well I have changed my doorbell in months it says offline but it still ring throw i got the floodlight to so I guess it works for me lol 😆
My ring is in full sun all day from sunrise to sunset. The door has no porch covering it and it fas=ces southwest. I find my battery dies in about 3 week regularly. This was a waist of $49 as far as I am concerned.
Yeah damn thing won’t change might as well manually charge
Thanks for sharing the review. My Ring First Gen only requires charging every 30-45 days, with all notifications enabled (10-15 per day). I don't see the solar charging offering much value for my situation.
My solar charger does not not work, I have to charge my doorbell, every 2 weeks, solar panel waste of money
Beverly Dulaney the same for me. I live in Florida. Sunny in 90% of the yes. This product sucks
Same here
I also have to charge my ring doorbell every two to three weeks
This ring doorbell is kind waste of money. Its better you get a regular camera. Mine dies in cold weather an does not record constantly.
Great video
How long is this video
Because I seen it on Amazon for $40.00
Just a note: I had mine attached for two days to a completely dead doorbell and it never charged. I am fully charging from the wall outlet and hoping for the best when I reinstall it outside on the solar panel.

They recommend a full charge before installing

Yes I think I can agree its pretty much is Useless on a scale from 1 to 10 i would rate it a 2 or 3
@@theproductreviewer9661 Yeah kind of a heart breaker...Sucks
I checked out your channel. And I didn't see the review for the doorbell 2. Have you done that yet? Thanks for the video.
Did you take the plastic off?
Great review. Did you post the link? I’m not seeing it.

That doesn't seem right from my experience. I haven't never charged it in full sunlight. I would definitely try exchanging it
Where the fuck does the backing plate come from fam

Will it work on the Ring Peephole?
I don’t see a way to attach the door bell wires. Is it possible?
After returning my first solar charger because it didn't work, my second charger doesn't work too. $50 for a nice base for mounting my ring doorbell :(
Forrest Gump helped me make my decision
Lol Thanks
thanks sr perfect video 23 days battery died.
Once installed. Does power supply change, or continue to show battery powered?
Battery power
Them panels are rubbish i have the ring 4 and got the solar panel at the same time and was always in direct sunlight but i still had to charge it myself so i then bought a bigger panel to mount on the wall an that one works fine how people can say these little things work is beyond me

Who is the Solar mount made by?
Ring
what was the follow up to this?
Looking forward to the ring video doorbell 2 solar panel review
richard munir sorry my old channel got banned for asking people to subscribe to it for spam so I lost a lot of motivation be I want to get back at it I appreciate the good feedback please like and sub for updates: )
Great video dude
Is the circle blue when u connect it to the mount?
When the sun is out, in the device health screen, does it say that it's charging?
No it doesn't
@@theproductreviewer9661 mine doesn't indicate a charge on device health screen either, swapping battery 2 xs a wk!!
My solar charger worked for several months, then it stopped working, I have to take it out to recharge it...
Mine is not charging either but it is also a winner / spring and it is in the shade for over half the day
Will this work with a wired ring door bell or is it only one or the other?
You don’t need a solar charger if your Ring device is wired because it is already wired to your electricity. This is only for the battery operated Ring doorbell 2 device.
so far mines does not work im gonna hack it using a mounted solar panel and fishing a new usb through the mount.
Chaz Carter sounds cool hope it works update me on the outcome! Don't forget to like and sub for updates.
Any luck with customizing? Mine doesn't charge
Did you ever do another test at your mothers house where there was more sunlight?
This thing is a waste of money. Don’t get it.
So when it hits zero do you have to plug it in now to bring it up. Thanks
Yes i didn't work good for me wouldn't suggest it.
I could not get the ring to catch on the back
Save yourself the money. Cheaper ones on Amazon. Bought a larger monocrystaline solar panel with a charger already hooked up. Battery went from 50 to 100% in a day. These little solar panels are a waste
Which one did you get ? If you don't mind sharing ?
Well I'm screwed with this one, my doorbell is literally under the shade all day.
Mine doesn't work either, this device hasnt enough area to charge anything
Do people seriously expect this to charge or maintain the batteries on this device, it probably barely chucks out 100 milliamps if you are lucky, yes it sticks 5 volts in but only at a ridiculous amount of charge, probably not enough to light a tiny LED. I_AM_THE_NET you’re not helpful.
@I_AM_THE_NET you have no idea of electrical circuits and solar power, get yourself educated before you hassle me.
The solar charger works for about a month and the just quit.
Ya it's pretty much junk I still keep it connected Because if it dies all the way. It will let it charge just enough that people can still ring the doorbell
For $49, you may as well make your own DIY solar charger with a larger solar panel. What a rip off.
These things are bullshit, they don't work, there are far too many people who say the same thing, mine never worked, Ring sent it to me as i was inquiring about the purchasing the device, these things should be re-called in mass..
That Solar Panel doesn’t work, bought one and it’s an expensive piece of garbage, that I’ll be returning.
I only got screws
Amazon has then same price
Too bad you can’t just add a soar panel....
