@@NaterTater I installed it two weeks ago and everytime my battery gets to around 89 to 90% it kicks on and goes up to 94 to 95%. It's weird that it doesn't seem to charge even in bright direct sunlight until the battery drains to at least 90%.
@@ZepG thats interesting and that sounds like a Ring battery management thing. Lithium ion batteries dont like being overcharged and eveything from electric cars to your phone manage SOC based on conditions.
@@NaterTater I think that might be the case, it won't overcharge it so it waits until the battery is near 90% before it charges. I get a solar device connected in my device health almost every day but sometimes it says "A solar device is connected and able to charge this device". I just checked my device health a 2:29 am and it says connected with 94% battery, So far I'm happy with the results.
Have you had any issues with someone pulling the solar panel and the device off the wall? How did you get the bottom part to come apart? I want to get a solar charger bc I am tired of having to take it off the wall to be charged. Any suggestions? I have a Ring 2nd Generation wireless.
I’ve never even heard of a solar doorbell before that was really a unique video. Just a word of caution you know your address was displayed in the video you may want to re-edit your house number out
Thanks for the heads up. I noticed that too but I'm not too concerned. I consider my SSN, usernames, address, bday, etc all public info. Just a google search or dark web probe to get it...or watch youtube! Haha.
Hey Nate, any idea at what charge % it starts charging? I installed mine 2 days ago and it went from 78% to 71%. I do see the icon of the battery with the sun on top but not sure why it isn’t charging it.
@@NaterTater hey thanks for the reply. Just an update. It started to charge once battery level got to 65%. Now I’m wondering how to adjust settings to tell it when to start charging?
@bobbye4731 which doorbell do you have? Perhaps a different one. I'm not aware of any settings that adjust when it charges. Mine just always charges to 100% (so long as there is direct sunlight on the panels).
Which wires? All the solar ones are tucked in behind the door bell. If you have old wired doorbell wires thst you arent using then yes you can cap and cover them up. Good to remove or unplug the old doorbell power supply in the house too.
I have a question. What that size of the screw to go into the bracket because I email them said that i haven’t received the bracket screw. Won’t answer my email
My front door gets full sun all day with no overhang, I just installed a Ring 3+ yesterday and you might have sold me on this. Thanks for the review!
It will stay fully charged I bet!
@@NaterTater I just ordered it, they had it on sale for $39.99. I'll let you know how it works out.

It will always charge, all the way up to 100%. Maybe your doorbell setting are overly demanding and discharging the battery faster than it can charge?

@@NaterTater yeah here in NJ right now sun isn’t too strong. I have the Doorbell 2
If my ring doorbell basically gets direct sunlight all day wont the batteries get cooked?
No, it stops charging when it's full
👀OK (#1)NO work the sunshine I don't get it and the angle of the door I need to update it with different types of solar panel 😥🇵🇷
@10:43 Solar connected. Mine doesn't say connected. What did I do wrong? Thanks. Do you have to reboot the Ring doorbell? Mine is Ring Doorbell 3
It works after reboot and solar hits the panel
What do you do with the wires? Do you just cover them up?
Which wires? All the solar ones are tucked in behind the door bell. If you have old wired doorbell wires thst you arent using then yes you can cap and cover them up. Good to remove or unplug the old doorbell power supply in the house too.
If you just cover your old wires, then you have no doorbell.
I saw you had wires in the back of the panels why not connected it hardwire
Those are old door bell wires. Not power.
Any update to this charger? Wondering if this is a good investment for a porch with a lot of sun?
Still chugging along. After several months battery went from 100% to 66% and I only get occasional direct sunlight.
@@NaterTater buying one right now 😅
I get direct 4-5 hours a day. More in the summer.
@@NaterTater just bought it! Thank you.
@@sootherelax2802 cool! Should work well with lots of 🌞
I have another question why solar status says not connected?
It shows not connected before i installed the panel. Afterwards it shows the solar icon during the day but not at night.
@@NaterTater it works now thank you for your help

Not sure which screw you are asking about. You can bring a screw or the bracket to a hardware store and they can size the screw for you.
@@NaterTater thank you so much
