Carnivore for 18 months, finally starting to get fat. Eating lots to gain muscle. Is my unwanted weight gain more likely due to the fat that after the gym in the morning i then become a couch potato until i got to bed (work from home) or is it more likely the sweetener in my 2 cups of tea a day and 2 large glasses of sugar free squash a day? I tried a CGM for 2 weeks and got zero rise in blood sugar despite the sweetened drinks. Does that mean the amount of sweetened drinks im drinking will have no effect on fat gain? Or am i missing something else? Am i better off going back to 1 teaspoon of sugar in my tea and normal squash drinks than sweeteners?
Ryan here, part of the Keto-Pro Shop Team. Firstly, thank you for watching and for posing a good question! I guess there is a lot to cover here, so I will briefly try to touch on the points you make to try and help you here. Well done on going 18 months of carnivore, hopefully you felt the same benefits I did when I first went carnivore? May I ask what sweeteners you are using in the tea and are you having it black. if not black what are you putting in it? For Ketogenic friendly supplements and replacements such as sweetener, the most common two that are used are usually stevia or erythritol. As many other artificial sweeteners etc. are usually made up of things that aren't so good for you (even if they don't record blood sugar spikes, they could be affecting other things in your body such as hormones or creating certain responses from your body). If you treat everything we consume as scientific variables instead of just food etc, then properties of various things when consumed can illicit reactions not just blood sugar and insulin responses. I would imagine the sugar free squash doesn't contain one of the 2 more friendly sweeteners mentioned above. Of course, each individuals body will react differently to the consumption of different things as will lifestyle choices. Some may be able to get by and stay lean from what you are currently doing, others may not. I know from my experience if I were to only get my movement from the gym and be sedentary the rest of the time, I would likely too gain some fat. I would suggest an experiment to see what happens and how your body reacts, a process of elimination of sorts as this will help identify what the issue may be (or, at least, may not be). Going on the limited information I have of your situation I would possibly suggest one of the following in any order, and stick with it for a while to see if it makes a difference: 1. Keep current routine the same, but cut out or replace one of the sweetener options (i.e. replace the sweetener in your tea with something like erythritol or stevia) Or cut it all together. With the squash, either cut it for a while, or if you can find one that's made with the 2 sweeteners mentioned. Or I'd recommend using electrolytes as it is squash like in taste (sort of) if not taking already. We have award winning ones on our site specially formulated for the Keto lifestyle, more info as well as a link to product can be found here: theketopro.com/ 2. Keep your usual food/drink routine, but add cardio in at some point in the day (even if its just regular walks on your lunch break at home). As this will not only benefit cardiovascular health but burn extra calories and keep you mobile as opposed to "being a couch potato" apart from the gym. definitely would recommend, in my personal opinion, staying away from and not going back to the regular sugar and normal squash drinks. I hope you find this useful, Rich also offers personalised consultations unique to you where he can discuss the above topics and more in further detail if you are struggling. It's simple. The artificial sweeteners will trick the body into releasing insulin thinking it's going to be recieving a bolus of sugar and glucose. This can remain elevated so when you eat your meal you will be in fat storage mode. HTH.
@@Astronurd agreed, it depends what sweetener is being used (hence my asking above). The sweeteners I suggested if they aren't either of those, are due to what you say. Both of those sweeteners do not provoke an insulin response, thus not triggering the effect that other sweeteners do - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team
Thanks for doing what you do!
