Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.
Hard work does eventually pay off.
Best video on UA-cam about pond5 🙌🏼🙌🏼 so detailed! Thanks for this 🙌🏼
By far!
Love how you get straight to the point. Telling us the process with such transparency.
Agreed 👍100%
Adding pond5 to your workflow makes a lot of sense instead of exclusively shooting for stock. thanks for the tips!
I love this guy. Because he tell the truth. He show and tell about struggle. Don't pose with his "greatness" like many other people. And this video contain great amount a information and experience. Thank you:)
Awesome. Thanks for sharing valuable information. Keep posting such videos. Best wishes. Love from India 🇮🇳
very cool and open insights, thanks! Also funny with the slo-mo effects :-)
Dude you leveled up with the glasses.
Thanks a lot for uploading this video.....I am searching such type of videos on UA-cam ..... But this is amazing.... Thank-you...... thank-you❣️
Very informative and useful video! Thank you!
so true about going through old footage!
Awesome vid, truly inspirational 🙌🏻 I'm the G7 owner, I thought my camera isn't good enough for stock footage but I guess I was wrong.
Awesome work!
I appreciate you sharing your experience bro. I'm just starting to get into stock video.
Great video. Very helpful, watched all the way through 👍😀
Thanks, this is a great video, treating honestly all the different aspects of it! And I guess we'd all love to see this detailed video of your whole workflow, with screenshotsand and all... Please please please, because we ALL LOVE POND5, and you reach more than 100 likes now ; )
it’s up in my latest candid video, 2yrs of pond5!
Thank you! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you very much for your cheerful information.
Nice suggestions, thank you so much :)
This is most honest about stock video on internet! 1k likes😀
Tnx for it!
Can you make some tutorial??
honest video, thank you
Hi Michael, this are Golden information, thank you so much. I’m happy that it’s working out great for you. Best -Andrie Galia
I've sold stock video on Pond5 since 2013. Q4 aka 4th quarter is the lowest as most production companies are winding down for the year by October. Usually picks up mid-January again. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've sold some pretty basic footage that wasn't shot in the best light. So you just never know!
It's so bazaar as celebrity photography was king but now a squirrel eating a nut brings in more revenue 😂
Good video, thanks. I find Pond5 the easiest to upload to and as I set the price its much more productive than S.S.
i appreciate you sharing your journey and info! im trying to upload iphone photos to shutterstock!
Thanks for all the information man
Keep them coming !! Don’t let the hype die
Hey Michael, thank you for the content, those are valuable ideas! If it's possible, make a video about your best seller footage, that would be helpful... greetings from Brazil!!
Great video! I crashed my M2P into a tree too! On an automated orbit setting! Sensors did not work that day. Luckily, it still flies!
Great video.
Hey Michael, just subscribed your channel because I think you videos are helpful and great and I have one question for you since you know more about selling stock footage:
I have noticed that I've started to accumulate clips and can't upload them with the same pace online. Any tips how to know what to discard and what not? It feels so hard to discard clips because I almost want to edit every one of them and upload on Pond5, but it's impossible. It's like going through your drawers and not be able to throw anything away. Thanks in advance if you find the time to answer!
The first sale is exciting especially when you license extremely rare celebrity footage and still photography.
You're informative AND funny.
love you man great info
You are the best. Great Video
thx !
This video was legit brother
thanks !
For example, do you use social media to support the dissemination of your visual material published on Bond5?
Thanks for this vidéo. How about Black box ? Better than pond5 or not
Hi, great video! Quick question, I am just getting started with all that stock market. If I go exclusive with pond5 can I still produce differnet clips for other stock companies? Or does it bond me with them somehow?
Thank you! Going Exclusive with Pond5 means you'll get paid 60% commission instead of 40%, but CANNOT sell your footage on other stock websites. However, YOU ARE ALLOWED to sell that stock footage directly to people and can sell it on your own personal/business website.
I wonder if i can do with camera like fujifilm xt200 and with only the kit lens
This is great information--thanks! Are you on other sites like Shutterstock and Adobe Stock too?
Not yet but getting ready to do blackbox
Ive sold bird for 100$ so ye, dont underestimate birds, but great content, Subscribed bro
My man! ;)
Which camera do you use for video shoot?
Great video!!
450 likes so hopefully you have the next video up!!
"We all love Pond5 Money $$$"
Keep up the fabulous work and have a wonderful day and thanks again for a great video!
Seems like subject matter is more important than anything. When I'm editing commercial stuff or for a UA-camr, they rarely care much about the quality. They just want a variety of shots that are relevant to whatever they are talking about.
Were any of the COVID shots you did released as commercial? I feel like some of those could have done well that way (obviously with proper releases, so just the ones with people in it that you knew).
hey buddy, thanks for sharing this video, its great, i watched all video, its really great, BUT 1 thing you mentioned that you will make another video to share the knowledge that how to fill the bulk metadata title and keywords ETC. i tried to find it in your videos, but unfortunately i could not find it, can you please send me link for the video where you are sharing details how to upload and keywords ETC onto pond5,
i am really keen to know, because pond5 site makes me so much confuse. as compare to adobe, shutter and other sites. thanks
it’s up in my latest candid video, 2yrs of pond5!
i notice that videos on pond5 dont have sound is that how it works
Did you do the batch edits? Would love to see this process! ....and how many clips do you throw up at one time? I heard if you do not upload daily then it can hurt your sales?
it’s up in my latest candid video, 2yrs of pond5!
A very helpful video Michael. I greatly appreciate your honesty. Could you please explain what you mean by batch edit. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! When editing on Pond5, the same place where you click to SUBMIT a clip, if you scroll down you can choose to "Batch Edit Footage." If you have multiple files selected you can edit them all the same time to save lots of time. If this video gets 100 likes, I'll make a separate video showing my entire Pond5 editing process including how I batch edit clips!
@@MichaelShatravka OK. Thanks for explaining. I have never tried it as I submit my clips to both SS and Pond5. So, I might not benefit from it. My sales at SS are more successful than at Pond5. I tend to submit in ProRes so the file size is hefty in 4K, something like 1Gb for a 15 sec clip. May be that’s over the top! What is your export format?
@@nikonfan76 Ever since I upgraded my gear I been exporting everything High Quality H.264, Render at Max Depth, Use Maximum Render Quality, and for Target bitrate for 1080p I put it at 25mbs, 4k 50mbs, 4k Drone, 100mbs. Clips vary from 150mb up to 2-3gb. However, majority of my sales have come from the low bit rate clips.
@@MichaelShatravka yes, it’s been very revealing that most of your sales have come from lower res clips. You obviously have sussed out the market and are meeting customers requirements. So, the bit rate is not so crucial, the sales are content driven. This is very enlightening. Thanks for mentioning it. I really appreciate your openness and honesty. I have learnt a number of things from your very helpful video.
@@MichaelShatravka great tips. Its a new language to me but my clips on my Nikon 4K Camcorder still sell. I think it's important for newbies to realise that the buyers know exactly how to edit and improve any clips, so they often prefer not highly edited.
I noticed Pond5 offers enhanced licenses at quite a bit over the list price you set. Do you get a portion of these licensing fees as well, or just your percentage of the list price?
Not sure what their exact fee structure is but YES I have noticed some of my clips sold for more and I got paid more money with enhanced licensing. also same goes for the reverse, sometimes clip will be sold at a reduced promo rate and I'd get a smaller commission (think it was part of an extra global program thing you can choose to join or not).
great video. They pay you from Ireland because they do not want to pay tax in the US.
Does a person have to be over 18 to be a contributor on Pond5?
hi , thank u for all amazing tuts, i want to ask some questions about dji mini 2, because of my budget limits, i can buy just mini 2 but my aim selling footages on stocksites, so if u say me, mini 2 not enough for stock sites , i will wait and save some money for mavic air 2 :/ ((i wont shoot evening videos ...just daylights and nature...)) thanks
As long as you keep your shots straight and expose them properly wouldn’t see why not. Deff get a good ND filter, I have this one, makes your shots like cinematic AF. Skytreat ND32
amzn.to/3otIfK9
$4500 over 1500 hours is about $3 an hour.
Yip but the video are there for his lifetime. Passive income, you got to build up your portfolio. Love Pond5, set your own prices.
STRAIGHT E-LABOR!
I have over 200 photos or clips on Pond5 and have never sold one thing?
9:00 BUT, you just eliminated the auto tag feature, when you do all the other editing types. It's not perfect, but you add and subtract when needed.
Nice! How do you deal with people on street..do you need releases? thx
If you post as editorial doesn’t make a difference / don’t need it
hi michael, i really want to ask you something about how to make BATCH edit , why they always tell me there were some errors etc
it’s up in my latest candid video, 2yrs of pond5!
Is everything ok since? Wish you could make an updatte! Hope life still good over there and on Pond5.
I stopped doing pond5, all the details in my latest candid video 2 years of pond5!
This looks really fun but im confused. Is this a full time job? How can you live on like 5-10k a year? Thanks!
Definitely NOT a full time job, Pond5 is an incredible secondary/passive income stream to add if you're in the media production business!
@@MichaelShatravka 1500 hours is not exactly part time and for only 5000$ this seems insane but do you hope to be paid forever on the clips and eventually it be worth it ?
I love this video --
NO STUPID BACKGROUND MUSIC 👍
🙌
Question, I have drone shots way back when drone regulations weren't really a thing.. do I still need a drone license to sell the footage? I also recently got the DJI Mini 3 Pro (249g) Do i still need a drone license to sell the footage?
You need the license in order to sell anything you shot with drone doesn’t matter when you shot it.
@@MichaelShatravka thanks!
hey.... do you exclusive contributor or non- exclusive of pound 5 ?
EXCLUSIVE FOR LIFE.
I just started with Pond5 and my videos are listed as commercial use. Is there a setting to make it editorial?
You don't have to do anything. Pond 5's curators will determine whether your clip needs to be editorial and will set it as such. You can always leave a note for the curator at the bottom of the clip fields that "there's no model or property release, so this'll need to be editorial" before submitting the clip for review and even while it's in review.
will automatically be made editorial if curators deem so
Would would be your strategy for 2022 now that Pond5 is being taken over by shutterstock
I’m getting ready to switch to blackbox check out my latest video 2yrs of pond5 where I tell you why.
was wondering who are people that buy say your footage and for what reason wondering
News companies / documentaries / youtube channels
Hey, Michale.
I gonna make a Video about "How hard is it to start with Stock Videos" and i would like to take You as an example. Is that ok for you? i will link you in the description!
Thank you for that video bro =)
But if you have a Mavic 3.. which doesn’t require a license… then what?
Where is the tutorial you promised?
it’s up in my latest candid video, 2yrs of pond5!
Are you still doing stock footage?
No and tell you why in my latest video, 2 years of pond5
i dont get it i seen some of your work on pond5 do people reall spend $199 for a clip
I just sold my biggest clip for a $550 commission!
Less than 5k for 1500hrs of work? That’s roughly $3/4 per hour. Not to mention the overhead fees you mention with commuting to the shot, logistics etc. you are losing money.
Valid point! If you’re looking at 1500hrs strictly Pond5 earnings, yes you’re at a big loss, make more at McDonalds. However that same batch of time was also shooting editorial footage for news stations which turned into a very nice income stream during corona, gotta make a whole video on that if I get enough people interested!
@@MichaelShatravka I think a vid on how to translate one project into multiple revenue streams. That’s a good point, if that’s the case and those work hours are also spent on other things then that’s not a bad extra income stream 🤙🏻
That's true, but he's doing something he loves. That might make up for the lower earnings.
But this is an investment, its passive income. He might be getting paid for another 10years off that 1500hours
That's $5K SO FAR. It's RESIDUAL income. More money will come in in the future.
wait? your talking client? and pond5 .editorial is not the only footage that sells.pond5 will list what's trending .this leaves room for many types of subject mater .
4k+ in1 year ????????? hoooooooooow???
18:44
This white dude transforms into a black man 😎
Shooting news items is useless on Pond5 as your footage takes days to be available to clients
Pond5 has let me down, they are worried about hurting peoples feelings, Pond5 is worried about words that hurt! You are giving out OLD INFO that is not current.
Make a living? But you make like 200 usd per month
