    I've sold stock video on Pond5 since 2013. Q4 aka 4th quarter is the lowest as most production companies are winding down for the year by October. Usually picks up mid-January again. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've sold some pretty basic footage that wasn't shot in the best light. So you just never know!

    Hey Michael, just subscribed your channel because I think you videos are helpful and great and I have one question for you since you know more about selling stock footage:
    I have noticed that I've started to accumulate clips and can't upload them with the same pace online. Any tips how to know what to discard and what not? It feels so hard to discard clips because I almost want to edit every one of them and upload on Pond5, but it's impossible. It's like going through your drawers and not be able to throw anything away. Thanks in advance if you find the time to answer!

    Seems like subject matter is more important than anything. When I'm editing commercial stuff or for a UA-camr, they rarely care much about the quality. They just want a variety of shots that are relevant to whatever they are talking about.
    Were any of the COVID shots you did released as commercial? I feel like some of those could have done well that way (obviously with proper releases, so just the ones with people in it that you knew).

      Thanks for watching! When editing on Pond5, the same place where you click to SUBMIT a clip, if you scroll down you can choose to "Batch Edit Footage." If you have multiple files selected you can edit them all the same time to save lots of time. If this video gets 100 likes, I'll make a separate video showing my entire Pond5 editing process including how I batch edit clips!

      @@MichaelShatravka OK. Thanks for explaining. I have never tried it as I submit my clips to both SS and Pond5. So, I might not benefit from it. My sales at SS are more successful than at Pond5. I tend to submit in ProRes so the file size is hefty in 4K, something like 1Gb for a 15 sec clip. May be that’s over the top! What is your export format?

    • @MichaelShatravka
      @MichaelShatravka  3 роки тому +1

      @@nikonfan76 Ever since I upgraded my gear I been exporting everything High Quality H.264, Render at Max Depth, Use Maximum Render Quality, and for Target bitrate for 1080p I put it at 25mbs, 4k 50mbs, 4k Drone, 100mbs. Clips vary from 150mb up to 2-3gb. However, majority of my sales have come from the low bit rate clips.

    • @nikonfan76
      @nikonfan76 3 роки тому +1

      @@MichaelShatravka yes, it’s been very revealing that most of your sales have come from lower res clips. You obviously have sussed out the market and are meeting customers requirements. So, the bit rate is not so crucial, the sales are content driven. This is very enlightening. Thanks for mentioning it. I really appreciate your openness and honesty. I have learnt a number of things from your very helpful video.

    • @MichaelShatravka
      @MichaelShatravka  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure what their exact fee structure is but YES I have noticed some of my clips sold for more and I got paid more money with enhanced licensing. also same goes for the reverse, sometimes clip will be sold at a reduced promo rate and I'd get a smaller commission (think it was part of an extra global program thing you can choose to join or not).
