Ok. He is an assembler. Not a builder. I wouldnt let him in my workshop. Wonder if he can make 578hp from a non stroked VN engine. I did .

is this the magic larry perkins blocks that are ultra rare?
he had access to the sand block castings and thickened up the block in the required areas for strength which won him the 95 or 97 bathurst as he kept old school to the american engines??

I got a 5ltr VS VQ black block, l want to put in my old 1984 HJ47 cruiser.
I currently have a 308 in it goes good but lacks torque when pulling a tandem trailer and gets a bit hot. I have since found out that these old blue 308's lack good oil flow through no.4 galleries under load so with this 5ltr l got I would like to upon up the oil galleries on no.4 to keep the heat down as l keep doing no.7 & 8 plugs on the 308 because of reduced oil flow which creates heat and also open up the main oil gallery at the front of block, plus l would like to diagonal 4 bolt main it.
I'm looking for more torque say around 385, l not looking for anything stupid and around say 365 horse, but here's the $64 kicker?? I would also like to put 6 pound turbo boost on it for overtaking road trains on a hill where most times l have to sit behind the damn truck with the 308 cos it just doesn't quite have the get up and gallop l want with the trailer on.
So would l be able to get that torque out of a 355 or should l just go Chev.
But l really like the 355 to plonk in the old toyota where it's easy to fit, l've already made the firewall adjustements, rego blokes give me the thumbs up, easy to work on, plenty of parts and it's still a holden block and a bit c heaper on fuel, l run 98 on the 308 anyway, but also rub the new tojo's up the wrong way with a bit more grunt😁.
So whatiya reckon ol mate, is it worth it and can it be a workable reliability ?
Love to hear your feedback if possible👍
I live in the NT, Humpty doo .. Cheers

It wont if its the original engine. VR series 2 were the first of the 304s to be cast with the reliefs. Look at the date code on your engine.
