I played with this drone once and was sold. I haven't used any other drone to compare it to but this little thing was more than cool enough for me to go out and buy one . If someone wants it as a toy to play around with and film some cool areal shots with no experience flying one i would recommend this drone. A good idea is to purchase some extra batteries if you want to go out and film much.
As a guy that doesn't know anything about these (one of my students had one and I said.. "that looks fun, I want one") I thought this was very informative. Thanks!!
you probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Jake Alexis i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have this drone for 7 years now and today one of the 4 motors stopped working. It is amazing to see how durable this thing is. RIP to my favorite drone
Hi Ryan thanks for posting a no bs review i am just getting into quads i normally fly fixed wing and after watching this i have placed my order for the X5c mainly due to its size and stability dont think my eyes would cope with a hubsan at distance lol! once again many thanks for helping me decide
Just got one in the mail...my first quadcopter...Instead of buying an expensive one I'm going to practice on this one...Great advice:) Thank you! Love your channel:D
Bought one of these myself, never flown one before and waiting for it to be delivered, should only be a couple more days, thanks for the video, seems its got a decent distance on it for something i paid 33$ for!! Much appreciated!!
I Just bought one and I LOVE How Detailed you get and show everything, Inside, Outside, With and withouts, and even a video test! Love the AMAZING Quality from this video! Thanks.
Great review, ive just ordered one 2 days ago im a first time flyer and by watching your review you have made me feel a whole lot better thankyou keep up the great work. I can't wait to get mine now.
SHAYEN MOMOT Thanks! Hope you like it! And be sure to check out my "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video for even more info and tips to help you get started. :)
Ryan, I know this review has whiskers on it but my X5 is what helped me to break my orientation flight barrier. My experience (sans camera) is also like yours. I just now finished breaking in a set of replacement motors. Flyin' time! :D
Thanks for the great review Ryan... I just got mine back, lost it to the wind about two weeks ago... got up a little high, and lost control with the wind... anyway, anxious to give it another go. You make it look very easy!
I have a few of these, they are a lightweight fun unit with good flight manners (as you said, it's not one for windy days), solidly built (it takes a moderate amount of punishment and keeps going) I strongly suggest this as a first quad for anyone wanting to get into the hobby. it's affordable and great value. There are a few other ones that look almost identical. Obviously there is a reason. As to the range question, it's not stellar on range but I am doing a suggested range mod to try that out. The transmitter has a tiny 4cm antenna inside (forget the pretend one you see outside) and the internal antenna on the quad is also sub par. I'll be posting the results on my blog when i get the tests done. I am going to test it factory, tx modded, and rx modded. My first one of these is entertaining birds in a tall pine tree where 3 windstorms have failed to dislodge it so far.
Great video thanks. You can mod the prop guards with a hair dryer or hot water, just heat a bit and bend away from the props. Perhaps by removing the cam and extras, you could add a second battery to get more flight time, you know, solder a wire here and there and duct tape the battery in the cam hole. Also, the frame might be drilled (carefully) with holes to lighten it, for those who don't care about looks. Or, it might look cool if the holes were symmetrical and the frame was painted red, or yellow (Swiss cheesecopter). I mean, this thing is begging for experiments.
Hey, Ryan, just watched your review of the Syma X5C and wanted to say thanks for putting together such a professional presentation. I picked one of these up yesterday as an impulse purchase and was able to fly indoors right out of the box (not as well as you, of course, but didn't crash into anything or injure the dogs). I'd just like to add an observation - the X5C owners manual is as much fun to read as the quad is to fly ;-) Again, thank you for taking the time to put together such a helpful review. I look forward to your upcoming reviews & videos. Regards.
Thanks for the great review!!! Just bought one and got it assembled last night. Bought 2 extra batteries so I got 3 charged up. Im new at this so this video came in handy!! Thanks Digger
Thanks so much for the review! This is a deal today on amazon and for $40 it's a perfect Christmas gift for my husband. Your video really hyped him up for it.
Nice job. Thanks again for a great review. I'm thinking out taking a step up from the Cheerson cx-10 and the Air Hogs Helix. Your videos are great for helping me making a good decision. Keep up the great reviews. Daivd
Flyin' Ryan RC i just went and got it and flys great i love it. watching your video made me want to buy it so i did... anyway i love your videos they rock and i did subscribe. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I actually just ordered this after watching your review last night. Since I don't do video, I'll most likely remove the camera and use it as a semi sport quad just for fun.
Great video man. Most don't go into enough detail when reviewing a product or they harp on the same bullet point way too long. Your review was educational and informative, short and sweet. I'm now going to buy the Syma X5C. It will be my first quad copter. Thanks again for the video. I'll let you know how my first flight goes.
HavonicA Thanks! That's exactly how I hope my reviews come across. :) Also be sure to check out my "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video that I just released, for some good info and tips to get started flying. :) Good luck on your first flight!
Thanks for the video. Just received one, haven't flown it yet. In playing with the battery door I found that you can clip the front prongs in with the door tilted open and that puts the camera about level. You could then use some tape on the door to choose the angle you want. Another option would be to remove the screws and use shims or just some two sided tape to secure it at the angle desired.
Bought my X5C back last ing inAugust and have had a blast with it. Flies great just as Ryan says. Trim adjustments on the remote come in very handy. Flying time only last 8 minutes so planto by a few xtra batteries. I modded the camera as the angle was too low. It's a great quad for the price!
Hi Ryan. I bought the same drone couple weeks back. It was a fast flyer. Now it sit's on top of a huge radio tower and is lost. I didn't mean it to go there but was caught in a thermal and it difted toward's the tower. My fault for doing a mod to extend the range to 200 + meter's. I used black plastic paint and painted the bottom section to be able to see it better when flying In front of cloud's. I recommend changing out that wire antenna in the quad to a 2.4 ghz sleeveless antenna. Just attach it to the right place and then let it stick out the bottom slightly. I very much injoy your video's.I also have a few flight video's and also a couple amazing video's of a x5sw that was run over by a few tractors and also cut and sorted for hay. It was destroyed but I couldn't let it go and ended up to see if it still worked crushed flat.
It's easy to fly but be aware that the low battery warning lasts only a matter of seconds. Keep it nearby after the first 5 minutes of flight or you will be either watching it fall from the sky or taking a nice walk to go get it.
Not sure why, but youtube keeps deleting my question. For professional aerial videography do you think I could attach a gopro to one of these cheaper models or do you think I would have to get a DJI Phantom with a gimble for good enough stable videos? Thanks
SchaefStudiosLLC You would definitely need a gimbal for "professional" videos. You would also be much better off with brushless motors. This X5C wouldn't even be able to lift the GoPro. There are a few brushed quads that *could* do it, but you would very quickly burn out their motors by doing that.
Thanks for the video! I just got one of these in the mail and the instructions were mostly useless... Thanks to your video, I know now that I can trim mine up to be MUCH smoother to control!
I've had a Syra X5C for awhile now. More than anything else, it's helped me choose between pursuing more camera-platform-type drones or more sport/race-type drones with future purchases. It takes okay video, but it's definitely more fun as just a play flight drone.
Flyin' Ryan RC Well I'm trying it out and it's very difficult (in my office at work!!). I can't make sense of these directions on how to calibrate it. When I give it throttle it seems to want to pull to the left... Do you have another video on calibrating? Thx for any advice :) Even though I'm crashing it into things it's sure making me laugh!
TheFinnmacool I would suggest trying it outdoors first, since you are a new pilot. Large quads like this create a lot of prop wash and you are probably getting a ton of currents and drafts coming off items indoors, and it takes a lot of pilot skill to correct for that. You'll want to get about 3-4ft off the ground to get out of any prop wash, and you should find the quad to be much more stable at that point. I explain how to recalibrate it at about 3:05 in this video.
Seems I'm too late to try and talk you out of that purchase but I'll rant anyway. The accelerator re-calibration trick that Ryan showed didn't cure or even slightly help the awful directional bias this thing has suffered from since I got it out of the box. Just holding it steady in the air for a few seconds feels like an insurmountable task. This is so frustrating. Am I missing something here? Also, if I may say so myself, the mock d-pad and buttons on the remote are just mindbogglingly retarded. Why in the heavens name are they there? is that supposed to look cool to anyone? What were they smoking?!
Thank you for the video. Couple of hard learned lessons. The prop guards, taken off, will result in much less possibility of it catching in trees etc. Also, the white color makes it easier to find in deep grass or brush. If possible, no matter what type Quad you buy, always try to buy the white color.
+Over & Back As a fan of green, I have to disagree with you saying to always buy white. lol I get your point though. But, I also don't (usually) crash these days. :)
+Flyin' Ryan RC I agree. I should have said "buy a lighter color." I have a black one still stuck in the top of a big oak tree. Been up there two months. I know where it is but can't get up there or even see it with binoculars. I think "a lighter color" would've at least made it easier to see. BTW, due to your excellent video on the X5C, mine arrived yesterday, I flew it....AND CAN'T BELIEVE HOW STABLE & RESPONSIVE IT IS. Great little Drone! Thank you! P.S. My local Ace Hardware store, of all places, has a lighted green "glow in the dark body" X5C for $49.95....I'm buying another!
No, for that you want the X5SW, but the camera quality is much worse, and WiFi FPV is pretty pointless. It is laggy, short-range, and can cause interference with the radio control signal.
Great review and very well explanation of the drone. Thank you very much. I'm going to buy one for practice, then I will be getting the dji phantom 3. Keep up the good work.
I have a dji phantom, I recently purchased one of these, and I find it very pleasing to fly around! Both indoors and outdoors! (My cats aren't very pleased though)
X5C is one of my favorites for general fun outdoor flying. It's super stable, very easy to control, able to handle moderate winds. It is very durable, unaffected by most crashes. Recently I got one stuck in a tree. It was up there for a week, including some periods of severe rain. When it finally fell down to the ground, it was fine! Another thing I like about the X5C is that BNF versions cost around $25, so no worries if it's lost or damaged! Here's a tip I just discovered today: after a crash, one prop was turning slow and making a clunking sound. At the time I could not figure out what was wrong, but with closer inspection I found some dirt stuck in the gears. With a toothbrush I gently cleaned it out, and it flies great again.
Thank you so much sir. I have been doing a lot of research about the Syma and this one is far the best. I will apply your tips and instructions when I get it tomorrow. Well done!
Allan Ward Thanks, glad you liked it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! And be sure to check out my Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters video I just released: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
Thank for sharing. Well made video. Looking to purchase my first gyro after seeing the Phantom in action! This video sealed the deal. Looking forward to hours of enjoyment.
Great video. I just purchased the new updated black one in a bundle package deal which includes the case, extra batteries, etc. I have been flying a little helicoptor around the house for awhile now and want to get into the quadcoptors. After a lot of research, this seems like the way to go. My buddy is going to get one also. He used to fly RC planes many years ago. We are both retired and this seems like a fun past time.
Don Sullivan Glad you found the video helpful. :) If this is your first flying RC, you might also want to check out this video of mine for some more hints and tips to help you get started: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
I used a tie strap tightened up around the fuselage and encompassing the camera. This raised the camera angle to almost level and it seems to give a better field of view. Easy peasy!
I lost a new Syma X5C-1 to a light wind at night. I went up a little too high and it could not fight the wind and took it away like a sheet of paper. I looked all over for it in a mobile home park on a small canal and could not find it. I have an X8G and a JXD 509G coming in this week. The X8G has more power and can handle a light wind. BTW. I learned a lot from watching your videos. Thank you.
+Joe Flash I really really really hope you don't let your X8 fly away... that would be very dangerous and would risk hurting someone or damaging someone's property. In general, the wind is much stronger up high than it is down on the ground, so I would not suggest flying high unless it is very calm on the ground, and you are very confident in your flying skills and ability to fight the wind, or get the quad down fast enough, and under control, that you can get out of the wind's grasp.
Very nice video Ryan. I just got my x5c and now I've to learn how to fly. Can't wait for flying it outdoor during leisure time :) Regards from Germany Fred
Thx for the drone review videos I want to get a drone for my b-day and I was looking at your videos for reviews so I can figure out which one is the best and your videos helped so thx.
My god you fly that with so much ease. Bought one tried it first in house wasn't good outcome for painting on wall and quadcopter. But I will keep at it. Practice makes perfect just hope I've got all ten fingers by then.
***** Hehe, thanks. I've been flying for 8 years... so lots of practice. :) Check out my "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video that I just released yesterday for some info and tips on learning how to fly quadcopters. :)
Thanks to your brilliant reviews I've got myself an x5c-1 and have been practicing as often as I can on one battery! More batteries are on order and hopefully the Great British weather will let me get out to fly! Keep up the great work with your videos!
I just got mine in the mail and I wish I had watched this video before playing around with it. Prop guards flying off, I didn't know how to work the camera, and thought I didn't receive a battery charger. Smh good review
Thank you for a helpful review. I got the cheap version without the camera but was surprised to find it will lift my vivitar action camera so I can do the aerial camera work that I didn't expect.
Got mine in today! They forgot the darn USB charger lol. No biggie as I was going to use My B6 charger anyway. But wanted to say you were not kidding on the weight! Thing is like a paper plate, crazy light. Battery runs out really fast but I got Turnigy 750mah on the way. Great review I think this is the best a beginner like My son.
Tom Viren Glad to help! Also be sure to check out the "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video I just released yesterday for more info and tips on getting started. :)
Conrail2576 Glad you liked the video. :) Be sure to check out this video of mine for some tips to help you get started flying: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
That's my first (and only) drone! It's very durable, I've been flying it without the blade guards. Very good for $160! I think it was worth it! It takes 720p video and 3.7 mp photos. The 6 axis gyroscope is awesome. Btw it lasts about 8 mins not 5 (without the guards). The US version at least ;)
+3Ddee $160!? You got ripped off if you paid that much for it. As for flight times, I disagree... I time and average about 10 flights to get my times. Are you guessing at that 8mins, or do you actually time it? And are you actually flying, or just hovering in place?
+Flyin' Ryan RC well, technically 160$, but 100$ off Walmart... I was flying around, and it flies about 6 mins while recording (I know by looking at the recordings) so not recording at all, I'm just guessing, without recording, and no blade guards. Btw I totally agree with the blades smacking off the guards, that's why I took mine off :)
Great review and yes i have just ordered one cant wait to get it now was a toss up between the X5c and the WLToys V222 but your review helped tip the balance :)
I have the Quadrone I-Sight WiFi cam. I can do flips with the camera, prop guards and landing skids attatched and it will do frount flips, back flips, left and right flips, and it does is it really well too.
Hello. I found your review to be very informative and very professionally and directly done. Thank you for the concise product info and have a super day.
Hey flyin Ryan! Thanks for showing me the website for my Syma quadcopter... I ordered the 600mAh battery and three blade propellers.. I'll let you know how it turns out.. Fly on!
Thankyou so much for the reveiw . First i thaught that camera quadcopters were like $2000. I will use them first time so i will surely buy this one! Thankyou so much ☺
Jahanzaib Jabbar This would not be my ultimate suggestion for a first-time flyer. See my video here for my suggestion for a learner's quad, and some tips/info to help to get started flying: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html

Even though I'm crashing it into things it's sure making me laugh!
Flyin' Ryan RC
Excellent, thanks. I'll let you know. A little dark out right now....
$33 bucks. I could have got it cheaper but I would not have made Christmas... I bought a small fleet of these as gifts...Money well spent...
mm ok... i am getting it. hope it wont dissapont me as the first one
Oleg M Be sure the check out this video of mine for some info/tips to help you get started flying: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
I cant believe it has been 5 years since i last watched this video...time sure flies does it?
yep
Thank you! P.S. My local Ace Hardware store, of all places, has a lighted green "glow in the dark body" X5C for $49.95....I'm buying another!
how can u see the camera?
You just look at the bottom of the quad, and you can see the camera.
Flyin' Ryan RC can u connect it with a phone?
No, for that you want the X5SW, but the camera quality is much worse, and WiFi FPV is pretty pointless. It is laggy, short-range, and can cause interference with the radio control signal.
Flyin' Ryan RC is the syma quality decent
Recker you can't
my girlfriend tell me stop playing with toy..i said "there not toys there my babies"
LLEVNED Hahaha! :)~
just got my syma x5 i love it!!... these things are addictive
LLEVNED Nice, glad you like it! Welcome to the QUADDICTION. :)~
lol
haha... maybe she taught that you are to older to play that.. haha
That was the best demo I've seen for a small Quad. Thanks again!
+Over & Back Thanks! :)
Great review and very well explanation of the drone. Thank you very much. I'm going to buy one for practice, then I will be getting the dji phantom 3. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. This really helped me out.I got one for Christmas and I'm just now getting ready to start trying it out..Thank You
+Kevin Gray Sr Glad you found my review helpful. :)
Thanks for the info... Got my first quad, this model but upgraded version (flips with camera).. Very helpful
I have a dji phantom, I recently purchased one of these, and I find it very pleasing to fly around! Both indoors and outdoors! (My cats aren't very pleased though)
Thank you! There is so much more than what I was able to figure out from reading the instructions!
+George Richards Glad my video was helpful. :)
Well done!
Kvng Evan Thanks, glad you liked the video! :)
Could you do another video on the Syma's camera only?
Kvng Evan ;) ua-cam.com/video/Trg-T_fX0Go/v-deo.html
Brilliant vid and demo. I've ordered this as my first one. Now I've seen the demo I'm glad I did settle for it. Happy New Year
Allan Ward Thanks, glad you liked it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! And be sure to check out my Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters video I just released: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
@@theimacman 😎🎉🙏👍
remember having one of these as a little kid great nostalgia times
received mine today cant wait to set it up
Thank for sharing. Well made video. Looking to purchase my first gyro after seeing the Phantom in action! This video sealed the deal. Looking forward to hours of enjoyment.
Thanks! :)
We are both retired and this seems like a fun past time.
great video, mine shows up today.. its good to know this stuff before fling and wrecking. thanks for your time
Don Sullivan Glad you found the video helpful. :) If this is your first flying RC, you might also want to check out this video of mine for some more hints and tips to help you get started: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
Great video on the X5C, enjoyed the description and demo. Great kitchen, loved it!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! :)
I just bought this drone and your video and review was very helpful to me!
+CandylandWorkshop Glad it was helpful. :)
I used a tie strap tightened up around the fuselage and encompassing the camera. This raised the camera angle to almost level and it seems to give a better field of view. Easy peasy!
Make a video please
I done the same
I wouldn't say that I loved how it flies in the wind.
I'm getting one next January.
Kellidon Niles Yeah, it's not great in the wind, but it's manageable with all the accessories removed.
In general, the wind is much stronger up high than it is down on the ground, so I would not suggest flying high unless it is very calm on the ground, and you are very confident in your flying skills and ability to fight the wind, or get the quad down fast enough, and under control, that you can get out of the wind's grasp.
you make the best reviews in youtube.
Thanks! :D
Fantastic video. You pretty much covered all the bases. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Much appreciated 👌🏻
Glad you found it helpful. :)
Thank you for the review i got a lower grade quad and i was practicing with it and i am good with it so i might upgrade to this
Fly a drone
Just ordered one thanks to your review! Stay awesome!
Will Brooks Thanks, will do! :D
Very nice video Ryan. I just got my x5c and now I've to learn how to fly. Can't wait for flying it outdoor during leisure time :)

Glad you found it helpful! :)
David White Thanks! And I'm glad you're enjoying your X5C. :)
I just got mine in the mail and I wish I had watched this video before playing around with it. Prop guards flying off, I didn't know how to work the camera, and thought I didn't receive a battery charger. Smh good review
thanks, man. I think Amazon owes you one :). Bought one after watching your vid.
Thank you for a helpful review. I got the cheap version without the camera but was surprised to find it will lift my vivitar action camera so I can do the aerial camera work that I didn't expect.
Thank you so much for this review it really help me I'm thinking of getting my own now so thank you and good luck in the future
+Jose Alcantara Glad you found my review helpful. :)
Got one for Christmas, video will help get me started, thanks
Tom Viren Glad to help! Also be sure to check out the "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video I just released yesterday for more info and tips on getting started. :)
Just purchased one. Very helpful video! New at this so hopefully I can get used to it pretty quick.
+3Ddee No, wait, I said 9min without the guards, not 5. So, I'm not sure what you are referring to then.
+Flyin' Ryan RC oh ok
+3Ddee Ah, they just say stuff like "$100 off" to make it sound like you're getting a deal... this sells for $60 or less pretty much every though. :)
I just got this and i LOVE IT! Very nice review
nice quad I have the x8w from syma and it Flys great!
I just received one of these today--pretty excited to learn how to fly drones! Thank you for the video-subbed!
Great demo on the X5C. Great voice. You should be a radio DJ or new anchor.
+Drexel Williams Thanks! :D
Thinking of buying a drone for my daughter. Your videos helped me pick one out! Thank you!
i like the quad, especially the stability
Kellidon Niles It's a great quad. :)
Thanks for the great review. I just ordered this one.
yaay i am getting this quad tomorrow
Great review and yes i have just ordered one cant wait to get it now was a toss up between the X5c and the WLToys V222 but your review helped tip the balance :)
marty mcqueen Glad my review helped in your decision. :)
I have the Quadrone I-Sight WiFi cam. I can do flips with the camera, prop guards and landing skids attatched and it will do frount flips, back flips, left and right flips, and it does is it really well too.
Also, I can live view and video record all while doing flips...
Hello. I found your review to be very informative and very professionally and directly done. Thank you for the concise product info and have a super day.
Thanks! :D
AWESOME VIDEO! My father just ordered a syma drone for my science fair project!
Cristian Cantrell Thanks! Hope your science fair project goes well. :)
