    Just got mine a few days ago. Loving it, it's lots of fun. I have to be careful not fly it much outside since there is a bunch of snow on the ground. I love the flips! It's done a double flip a few times but I've also learned if you kill the throttle just as your copter is starting a flip you can do multiple flips. I've smash it a bunch of times into the ground and stuff around the house and still no damage to it. Very happy with this product so far and I hope it doesn't break on me lol.

    Brings back an old memory of mine.
    About five years ago I got one of these for Christmas I was incredibly excited but then I discovered the camera didn't work and I was like well it'll still be fun to fly around like an RC helicopter I took it out it went about 20 feet up in the air and then just fell out of the air slammed into a bush and completely quit working I was like well this is a complete disaster but at least I have a working SD card that came with it no it was snapped in half so we brought it back to Kmart and decided to buy a different one and the thing is the packaging was very misleading because it was a freaking Micro Drone in a box the size of something midsize with a very misleading and unproportioned picture I flew that thing around in the house for about 2 minutes and slammed into the wall and snap the propeller and I just never cared to replace the propeller and just left it alone for years Its in a bag in my shed somewhere I don't know if I ever have the motivation I might buy propellers for it and

    While your YT clip was 1 of the more thorough showing HOW TO WORK THE CONTROLS, I'm sure I speak for other #DroneBeginners, who's want to see someone spend an entire video on the Left & Right Controls! So many guys just spent 2 minutes on the controls & then the next 12-20 minutes showing-off their good (or in many cases bad) flying skills.

    Really enjoyed the video. I just bought one and was very pleasently surprised at how nice it was. It is very intuitive to fly and the video, while not of mobius quality, is very good. As soon as I get decent with it, it will remove the guards to lighten it up but in the meanwhile they will save some blades.

    One has to orient Syma x5c properly before flying. Keep the drone's camera end facing away from you. The correct orientation will ensure controls do what you tell them to.

    Wish it was as easy to fly as you make it to be. I'm still learning with mine but can't seem to keep it in the air for more than 2 minutes. Also... I have trouble getting it to move forward and backward. Is that because of the time it takes to get the signal from the transmitter to the copter? Just wondering. Also found that if you drop these into water like I did (ditch), just give them a day or 2 to dry out.

      When you view your SD card look for a file called "TIME.TXT" and delete it. An alternative is you can set your own date. Create a text file called "time" so you have time.txt and put the current date and time in the following format: 2015/03/15 15:02.00 and save this and it will correct the date and time.

    • @nialljamesbuckley
      @nialljamesbuckley 9 років тому

      xtratalk1 hmmm, i don't see such a file (hidden or otherwise) on my sdcard. i might try your alternate method and check back. thanks!

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  9 років тому

      You are OK deleting all the files on the SD card, all that is needed are two folders one for VIDEOS and the other for PHOTOS. If you still can't get rid of the date then method two should at least fix the date for you.

    I've ordered one and can't wait to get it. Thanks for the videos. Any idea how much payload this could lift?

    • @CoseCinesi
      @CoseCinesi 10 років тому

      Not to much. You can replace the stock camera with #808 keychain for better video, adding few grams. Someone managed to lift a mobius, drastically reducing flight time. In any case we suggest to remove the prop guards and also the landing skid to eliminate unnecessary weight.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      So far I've had it carry a plastic carrier bag, a spy key chain cam and a full metal sparkler amongst other things so it is capable of a little weight.

    Hello! Thanks for doing this video. It has really helped me start out me "quad" journey. :) I got my copter (X5C-1) yesterday for Christmas and I've been having a lot of fun flying it around the house. Now I'm just waiting for a nice day to take it outside.
    My Question: What is the crash durability of this model? (general question I know but take it any way you want) any answer will be fine. :)

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      They are actually pretty durable. If you're new to quads and practicing inside then putting the prop protectors on is a good idea at first as it will save clipping your props. Outdoors they are good, I've dropped them out of the sky from high altitudes onto solid ground surfaces and they've survived most crashes, the light weight of them helps with this.

    • @LordQueezle
      @LordQueezle 10 років тому +1

      xtratalk1 Nice! Believe me the guards where the first thing I did. (I figured it wasn't was to fly a propeller into someone... or the tree...) :P I actually was able to do a test flight outside today and it worked wonderfully. There was some wind drag but to much that it was hard to fly... I'm loving quads more and more!!!!!!

    It was not clear in the details

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  9 років тому

      Hi Dave. No it isn't FPV, the video records to a Micro SD Card which you can then retrieve on your PC/Laptop but no live FPV view.

  • @DukeJon1969
    @DukeJon1969 9 років тому

    Thanks so much for posting this guide. I got one of these recently and I have a few questions regarding the camera. To use it I need to hold down on the button to start recording until I hear a long beep, but do I need to hold the button down again to stop recording? The manual is a bit ambiguous, it says the recording will stop automatically when the remote controller is turned off. When can I start recording, when the controller is synced to the copter? Is there any indication on the LCD display to tell me when it's recording. The reason I am asking these questions is that when I check my SD card after flying I often find that many of the video files are 0 bytes in length, and occasionally they are more than 0 bytes but I can't copy them from the SD card. I found a way to properly timestamp the files (can't remember where) but what would also be useful it to stop the audio recording - it's just motor noise, the space would be better used for more video. Many thanks in advance!

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  9 років тому

      Yes you need to sync to the quad first or it won't get your command, when you have been filming video you need to press the button again and stop recording and it then saves properly to the SD card.

    Just ordered one of these online to learn how to fly quadcopters. One thing I have seen that is recommended is learning to fly with auto stabilization turned off so that you develop the multitasking and coordination skills required for more complex and faster vehicles.
    Is there any way to turn of stabilization or auto hove with this quad?

    OK, Ive got the manual in English now,only to realize it is my xt that is definetly out of whack.Here's my problem: when the right dirction lever is pushed forward (or backward or left/right without any deviation, I should get a single arrow on the LCD display indicating the corresponding direction. I DO NOT, What I do get are two (2) arrows indicating radiating out from the center.Top left Quadrant when lever is moved north. Bottom right quadrant when lever is moved south. xt will not display arrows in top right nor the bottom left quadrant. I discovered this while fine tuning & looking at the LCD display. I noticed the quad would not fly over a single axis but instead was combining two. in other words this Syma X5c-2 will not fly straight forward,nor straight back, nor side to side. I hope I have conveyed my problem sufficiently. I ve had it a week. all other functions seem to function properly. AAAAAARRRGGHH! CAN ANY ONE HELP ?

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      If it's not going straight up when you press the throttle then it's likely you have the props on in the wrong order, it's very important to have them on the right way as two motors go one way and two the other. Make sure they are on this way: imgur.com/q7Pm5rf

    Hello I bought one of these recently thing is only one rotor responds to the throttle to any point of acceleration. Question would it be likely the other three motors are flawed? or perhaps the gyro is not working properly? (does not lift off, only rotates clockwise currently / or one side (side with the strong motor) lifts off and eventually flips it on it's back.)
    is there a simple test to better diagnose this? Thank you for your help.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Yes it may just need recalibrating which is really easy to do. See this video ua-cam.com/video/hhLMbq3LkrM/v-deo.html and if that does/doesn't work let me know...

    This video made my mind up to get this quad and it's great except, I am struggling with the video, it recorded the first flight first and since then all I get is o bytes of video. I am gutted and don't know how to get this to video consistantly, hope you can help. Tried turning the video off before turning the quad off but same result. It flies very nice and would be perfect for what I want, that's to take on my motorcycle travels and taking videos of the areas I visit. Hope you can help

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  9 років тому

      Make sure you push and hold the button in for video (as a short press just takes a photo). You should see the red/green light change on the camera to show it is recording, when finished make sure you press the button again to stop and save the video before turning off the quad. You don't have to fly it to practice and test the camera, if you still have problems then try reformatting the SD card on your PC or Laptop.

    Hiya all. Another one who has joined the track down the quadcoptor route!. Never had anything like this before but following a car accident, fishing is limited now so decided to try and find a 'new hobby'. I got mine in 7 days from China, put it together and found one of the blades does spin freely and as such, trimming it is nigh on impossible :-(. I have tried everything (so has my son) and you really have to 'work' the controls. I bought this as it seemed the sensible thing to do instead of going straight for a H500 !!! Anyway, is there any way of freeing this blade or should I just contact the seller and have chats? Your help (new and old) would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Hi David, the first thing to check is that the blades are on in the right order (very important) they must be on like this: imgur.com/q7Pm5rf
      If those are all on the correct way give it a recalibration (easy) as shown here: ua-cam.com/video/hhLMbq3LkrM/v-deo.html
      If you are still having the same problem then it looks like you may have a faulty one and should get in touch with the seller ASAP for a replacement.

    • @daved4547
      @daved4547 10 років тому

      xtratalk1 Thanks for the reply and info but I am sure it will (or should not) come as no surprise when I tell you that after watching a number of your video's (well before I even considered one) I have followed all the correct steps and double checked everything so will have to conclude with you that I have a fault :-(. Although I could learn to fly it, it would be better if it behaved correctly in the first place. I am going to go outside and check the video as well as a quick test indoors produced a very grainy picture and if the camera is also faulty, this will just add to my woe's . Thanks again

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      David Dibben I would get on to them right away then David, most sellers are usually good with customer service so they should replace it as soon as possible. A blade not moving freeley with no obvious obstruction is usually down to a bad/faulty motor.

    • @daved4547
      @daved4547 10 років тому +1

      xtratalk1 Thanks again. I have just sent off an email to the supplier and have also done a video as well. The other thing which I have found is the copter kept cutting out and have tracked this down to a faulty battery connection. I only have to 'touch' the copter and the power goes! Although I have had problems, it has definitely hooked me to quadcopters! Now to wait and see what comes back. Thanks again..:-)

      Hi Spare14All. You can change from Mode 1 to Mode 2 by pushing in the trim button while switching the remote control on. On some models it's the trim button on the left of the power button and on some it's the trim button on the right of the remote.

    hi, I just bought one for me and I'd like to know how hight does it go? 50m,100m? tnx.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому +1

      Hi Andrea, it will go very high, basically it will go as high as you like so long as it is in range. 50m is the approx quoted range on the standard X5C models and the newer version the X5C-1 (see my other videos) is quoted as having a much further range. You can easilly extend the range of the X5C, have a look at my "Syma X5C Remote - Easy Antenna Range Extender Mod" video to see how.
      Due to the many factors involved the height possible varies so it's hard to give a certain answer but if you take it outside I'm sure you won't be disappointed. One thing though, if your new to this and it's a windy day don't go too far at first as it's easy to loose control, like anything the more you practice the better you get. Have fun :)

      Put the drone on level surface, then turn on control, then turn on drone and wait for lights to go steady. Then go straight up and down on throttle. If you do it in that order and it still isn't syncing it looks like you have a problem.

    • @xtratalk1

      Yes the main cause of the jello effect on quad cameras is an insecure camera, fixing it securely with strong double sided tape should fix this. Also be sure you props are on the right way as shown here quadcopteruk.tumblr.com/image/115223772044 and give it an easy recalibration as shown here ua-cam.com/video/hhLMbq3LkrM/v-deo.html

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Sorry to hear that John but if it's any consolation it happened to us too when we first got one, we got carried away and flew it really high and the wind picked up and took it out of range away from us never to be seen again. We also tried to get just the X5C quad on it's own without remote from somewhere but couldn't find anywhere selling it on it's own and only spare parts like blades, motors, motor holders etc.
      When I said take your time with it at first that was because of our past experience, the good news is in the months since we haven't had any losses or fatalities so once you get to grips with it you should be OK. I know what you mean about addiction, we ordered another the same day from The UK for £20 more just to get a replacement as soon as possible lol.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  9 років тому +1

      Hi Steve. The controller does not have a battery indicator for the quad itself just for the controller. Basically you need to be aware of the max flight time of the battery and bring it in before it's time to be safe, the quadcopter itself will blink to let you know it's battery is almost gone but it's easy to miss in the daytime.

    So... what happens when you lose Radio Control of it? On my 3rd flight out, it went behind a tree and I haven't seen it since... had a fresh battery charge. Looked all over. Will it go up, up, up, or when it loses communication does it drop like a rock?

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Sorry to hear that David, it's not uncommon and a few of these have been lost. When the quad looses contact with the remote it should go dead but there are a lot of variables to take into account. I often go in and out of range where the quad will flash and loose power for a slight second and then regain it again so long as you don't go completely out of range. We lost one that was very high in strong winds, when it went out of range it certainly didn't drop out of the sky and was carried away but I think that was due to the quad being light and the wind getting hold of it rather than it still flying on it's own accord.

      Thanks for the reply. I ended up finding it buried in the tree I lost sight of it. • @djshotty
      @djshotty 10 років тому

      While the controller and drone are switched off, keep pushing the button/switch underneath the right control stick with your finger, pushing it to the right hand direction to hold it there for the same time as you switch the controller ON. The controller will long-beep, then look to the left of the four smaller circles at top-center of the LCD screen for what Mode the controller is in. Repeat this procedure from the beginning (turn controller OFF) to change controller Mode from 1 to 2, or from 2 to 1 depending on what control preference you like from pictures in the instruction manual Page 6 and 7...

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Hi Andrew. It doesn't have to be in a certain mode but there are two things to point out. The first one is the camera needs to be detached as it won't flip with the cam fitted. The second is that just after you press your flip button you need to press in any direction for it to do a flip. Whichever direction you chose will be the direction the quad flips in.
      Hope this helps.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      Hi Scottydog. If it doesn't go straight up when you press the throttle then it probably needs recalibrating which is very easy to do from the remote control. See this video to see how and let me know if your still stuck: ua-cam.com/video/hhLMbq3LkrM/v-deo.html

    • @scottydog2871
      @scottydog2871 10 років тому

      Done that mate, followed the instructions which says to do this. Still can't get it's ass of the ground or berms over to one side. Done my head in now cause it looks pretty easy to fly from what I saw, that's why I bought it.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      scottydog2871 In that case it could be that the propellers are on in the wrong place as that causes the same problem your describing, check the pic on the front of the box for guidance, if they are on in the right order and you've recalibrated it but it still is not going straight up when you push the throttle stick (with the direction stick in centre position) then there must be a fault and I'd suggest getting in touch with the seller about a replacement if you've not had it long.

    • @scottydog2871
      @scottydog2871 10 років тому

      Yeah, maybe you're right. Had it from China for £38.99 on eBay. Didn't come in the proper box like you had and wasn't the X5C-1 I ordered but the X5C. The propellers have A1 marked on them and I had to screw them on myself, there were four spare. It all appears to be in top condition just can't understand what's wrong. Looks like it should be easy enough cause I've watched all the vids on UA-cam... that's why I bought it. Just mystified.

    • @xtratalk1
      @xtratalk1  10 років тому

      scottydog2871 Mate I think it could be the order you have the props on, it's really important as just like the motors two go one way and two go the other and if they are in the wrong order it won't fly correctly. Give me a sec and I will line the props up on my quad and take a pic and post the link here so you can see the correct order they should be on, hopefully that's what the problem is....

      You shouldn't need to adjust the band the control and quad should match. Make sure the quad is on a level surface, then turn on the control (make sure the throttle is in down position) then switch on quad, the lights should flash fast for a few seconds then go steady, then you need to push straight up and down on your throttle and that should sync it up.

      bjo d. Hi bjo d. Yes they are fairly easy to fly, the best advice to give you as a new flyer is to keep the quad fairly close to you at first and take your time with it until you learn the basic controls.

      bjo d. Brushed motors do not last as long as brushless, but I certainly get more than 60 fliights before I get a motor failure which is rare but does happen. Motors are cheap and easy to replace though.

      Mark Mcgimpsey It's a great quad and a good low cost full package to get started into the hobby with. I would suggest it as a first quadcopter to anyone :)
