RadioMaster TX16S Setting Up Your TX for a Quadcopter

  • In this tutorial video I go through the process of setting up a quadcopter with flight modes and switch sounds on your TX16S in OpenTX Companion and on the radio. This may not be exactly the same set up you want but I think it is a good starting point. Remember this is on the radio side of the set up you still need to go through the Betaflight settings.
    I purchased my TX16S from the Flying Robot Co in Cape Town. This is not an affiliate link but I want to share where you can get yourself a RadioMaster TX16S in South Africa.
    flyingrobot.co...
    Thanks for watching.
    Happy Flying.

    With everyone in the world making videos, its refreshing to find someone who is obviously knowledgeable in the subject and can speak in plain language without stuttering and filling up space with "like" and "you know" etc. Very well done. I waiting for my RadioMaster TX16S to show up and can't wait to use this video to setup my Green Hornet quad. Nicely done, thank you. BTW: I'm a long time Spektrum user so this is a new game for me. You have made it much more painless.

    Thanks Bill for the video. Yes, its from last year but I am about to program my Blade Chroma BNF on both my OpenTX and EdgeTX TX16S. This video helped a lot despite my quad isn't as advanced. Only 2 flight modes and a return to home. Have a dial to tilt the gopro camera. I can take a look at my Spektrum DX9 to see what channels are used for. Thanks !

    Fantastic video and a great idea to show how to do this first on TXCompanion,and then on a radio - extremely well done - helped me a huge amount.
    What would also be good for a follow up video, would be to take this setup and show how it works in Betaflight such that folk can get a visual on how the Tx commands translate in Betaflight - mode setups, switch activations etc.....just a thought!

    very clear and professional. just a quick question here, I don't understand why do we need the "mixes" tab, what are this "mixes" all about? thank you for sharing this great step by step demonstration TX16s 101 :)

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks. The mixes allow us to control two functions with one input. A good example of this is aileron rudder mixing. Some planes only roll when applying aileron so do not turn and need rudder to initiate the turn. I can fly by synchronising both rudder and ailerons but we can with our OpenTX computerised radio set up a mix so when we roll aileron right the rudder also moves right a small amount. We can also use mixes for flaperons where we use our ailerons as flaps as well and only mixing will achieve this. I hope that explains the need for the mixes tab.
      Happy New Year to you.

    Hey Bill, very good tutorial on setting up a quad. I have a question for you. You were able to also setup your sounds and choose a picture for the model. Where on the computer do you have to have the memory card contents to be able to do this.

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer

      Hi Blake, you can put the SDCard contents in any folder on your computer but you need to tell OpenTX Companion where the folder is. Open OpenTX Companion click Settings, click Settings option and go down to SD Structure path and select the folder you have placed your SDCard contents in. You will know hear the sounds in Companion when you simulate your radio.

    Bill, I've been following this video to setup a quad but at 18:46 in the video you set up a over ride for turtle mode you say is on SF 7 BUT you have SF 7 setup for the timer reset and turtle is on SF 8. Is that just an error you made in the video or am I not understanding??

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer

      Turtle Mode allows just two of the motors to operate when you operate a switch so when your quad crashes and no motors or props broken you can flip your quad copter over in any direction and hopefully take off. You need to be very careful with this mode or you could destroy your ESC. I have decided not to use it on my whoops for that reason but that is purely a personal choice. I wanted to give a complete set up in my video. I am pleased to hear my video helped you.

    So if you create a model in companion for a radiomaster 16ts, can you duplicate this model setup to a second radiomaster 16ts, so can you share model files to identical radios, just wondered save time re programming everthing twice, another great video Bill

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  3 роки тому

      Gary yes you can a video to do this is in my schedule. You will need to use OpenTX Companion to do this. Basically you would back up the donor radio in Companion and save it keeping it open on your computer. Then plug in the receiving radio and download its settings and models and then copy the model over to the new radio and then restore the radio settings and models. You could also make a backup of the donor radio delete all but the one you want to transfer and then save. You could then email the back up to a friend and they could add the model to their radio. You of cause must not restore the donor back up to the new radio as it will delete all its models and change the radio settings. One thing you must keep in mind is thoroughly check the model before flying to make sure the model does not arm only when it is meant to!

    Hi Bill, thanks for the informative video, I followed along and most of it worked, but I did run into a few issues and I was hoping you could help me with them. One thing that I can’t figure out is for some reason my TX16s is only allowing me to use 8 channels, and when in open TX companion where you choose what ever switches you want to use, it only allows me to use the 4 switches on top of the radio or the 6 position switches that light up. Also I’m only getting angle and Acro mode no horizon, and I checked my open tx inputs and they are exactly like yours. Can you please give some sort of feed back on what I may have done wrong, and why I only have 8 channels to occupy. Thanks very much.

    Hi Bill,
    Got a question. I just got this radiomaster tx16s and am trying to set up for an old quad. The quad is about 4 years old and it's called the JJRC JJ1000 quad. I was able to copy all the steps you gave in this video in regards to setting up the model. I can get it to bind using the V2x2 protocol. But the problem I am having is with the horizon, angle and acro modes. I have them all in companion, as well as the radio. But when I switch between these modes there appears to be no difference in the way the quad flies. In other words it doesn't matter which mode I am in (horizon, angle and acro) the quad flies like it is in the acro mode. I need to be able to access slower modes to be able to control the quad the way I fly.
    Any thoughts??

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  3 роки тому +2

      I do not think you will get the flight modes working because when I check the V2x2 protocol it does not support the modes. You can see below which channel operates what function.

      CH1 CH2 CH3 CH4 CH5 CH6 CH7 CH8 CH9 CH10 CH11

      From Radio's SDCard
