  • Radiomaster TX16s Setup - How to setup your new TX16s from rcvideoreviews... is a COMPLETE setup guide for the Radiomaster TX16s. In this video, I review system options of the radio including demonstrations of what the options do. I cover usage of the LUA tools menu, managing the tools displayed on that menu, SD Card navigation, hardware calibration, and much more.
    If you want a detailed review of the system setup options of this radio, you've found the right video.
    Here is the @UAV Tech video I referenced describing the ADC option in detail:

    This entire series is fantastic! Clear, organized information and excellent video work. Videos are logically broken down for easier consumption. For me as an old Heathkit/Futaba/HiTec/Spektrum guy I got into drones and this radio is so perfect! Lots to learn but with these videos, I am learning fast - I will be putting all of my planes (and drones) on this platform thanks to the lessons learned here. Thank you for this great work!!

    Thank you so much for this! This is like a full-on course/class on this. As a complete noob, I'm super intimidated by this hobby but really want to get in. I have no idea what I'm doing and no previous experience in anything even remotely (no pun intended) related to anything radio or FPV related. I'm following along very intently trying to keep up even though I don't understand any of the numbers, settings, frequencies, charts, words, terms, or what any of the jargon means but I'm super excited to do this and you're making it accessible for me by even having this! Even though I'm still early and confused I have no idea how anyone would navigate this without a video like this. Since I am hesitantly investing the limited money I have into this hobby I very much appreciate you putting this up!

      @@RCVideoReviews Awesome, I just subscribed and liked! Been watching videos and messing with it since I got it. Right now I've been stuck trying to find out why when calibrating the elevator won't go down under center when I bring the right stick down and it snaps to the top when I push it up. The ele only moves invertedly when I move the left throttle stick up and down and it never goes down past the center when I pull the right stick down. When the throttle is down at idle and right stick at the center the channels read like this:
      02 Ele 46%
      03 -100%
      and if I pull the left stick down it stays at 46% and when the throttle is at 0% the elevator stays at 0% and never goes under, it only snaps up to 66-100%
      or is none of this even a problem and that is exactly how it's supposed to work?

    I have followed and subscribed to the channel, to learn how to use the Radiomaster TX16S and it is effectively the most
    enlightening that I found.
    Congratulations to the channel and keep it up.
    I bought a radio like this, although I haven't received it yet (Black friday), but one question I wanted to clarify is the following:
    On Radio Setup the Default channel order that is in AETR, if you change to any other such as TAER, everything will be fine
    or there will be a problem, as it says in the manual : "Because the channel input order of the built-in multi-protocol transmitting
    module of the RadioMaster TX16S remote control is AETR, in the Default channel
    order option, be sure to select the AETR order '"
    Therefore, I don't see the interest in having more options besides the ATER option if there may be any problems in the future
    Thank you and my best regards from Portugal.

    Loved this video for future reference, but I'm stuck after working with Velocidrone and RadioMaster TX16S support staff trying to get them talking to each other and just have the transmitter act as a joystick controller for the Velocidrone SIM. We have failed after a week of trying this and that and the time it takes for them to respond to me and me to them is killing us as far as efficiency. Other words, we wasting a ton of time on a simple thing. I felt like someone else had to have experienced this same issue so I've found UA-cam to be a valuable resource at times. I thought I nail it when I saw your video. But it never discussed using the transmitter as a joystick other than how to put it in Joystick Mode. We can of knew that one. I was wondering if you could make or direct me to a video you've already made on just the basics of how to unbox it, how to connect it to your Windows 10 or higher PC and including maybe one of the most popular simulators made by Velocidrone out there that most racing pilots are using to practice and get started with. I was told I may need 100 hours of SIM time before I should go buy a real drone. True or Not? Don't know. But I just can't seemed to get started. I feel like we all are missing something very simple and just have not figured out what yet.... Please help or send me to someone who can? And I am willing to pay for consultation.....up to a point... LOL

      I discuss it in this video briefly: ua-cam.com/video/QaEbn9R6QGc/v-deo.html
      As far as I know, there is only one way to do it:
      1) Get the source code for the multi protocol module.
      2) Edit the source code and key in your own global unique identifier.
      3) Compile that source code and flash both radios with it.

    Great explanation. I am a subscriber! I am a Newby to Rc model flying (and building) in New Zealand. I have bought a Microaces DH.2 model in the building phase. I have the Radiomaster TX16s and had the Spectrum micro-receiver package supplied. When I try to bind, the seperate servos work, but nothing I do will got the motor to work. Another identical micro-receiver gives the same result. I know the motor works, because I have attached it to another Spectrum micro-receiver (a larger version with servos integrated). I have contacted Microaces models for help. Other than sending me a new receiver, they were unable to provide an explanation. They have no experience with the Radiomaster TX16s. I'm unable to complete the model until I get this problem solved. I do have Spectrum based models already bound to this transmitter. The Champ, UMX Turbo Timber are two examples.
    I would be grateful to you or any viewer that has encountered this issue and solved it, or just knows from experience, what I'm doing wrong. As a Newby, any explanation of corrective action, would necessarily need to be step by step basic. Hope you can help. I'm very keen to get my little indoor model flying.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 роки тому

      Ok, if you have two different receivers that are bound and you know they're bound because the servos operate but neither of them operate the motor, your problem must like in your model setup somewhere. I would suggest learning to use your channel monitor. From the model screen press the MODEL button, then press it again. From there, operate your throttle. You should see both MIX and OUTPUT lines move. If they both move then you need to make sure your ESC is connected to the channel that is moving. It's highly unlikely you have a problem with the radio or the receiver.

    Thanks for your great content! I am revisiting RC after many years as technology seems to have reached another level! One thing I wonder about is: Why to people tear out their batteries from the plane and check the voltage from their smart planes when this info is already available in the telemetry?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 роки тому +1

      Not all planes have flight pack telemetry--most don't. Don't confuse flight pack voltage with voltage fed to the Rx which is usually available via A2 or A1. That is a reduced value--usually 5v from the BEC, but it is not an indicator of flight pack voltage.

    John, I have 2 questions for you buddy: 1st - subtrims - There's a pyramid and a = sign. Whats the difference and which one should I leave.
    2nd - If I install a external 900mhz module like the frsky R9M, can this radio transmit in 2.4ghz and 900mhz at the same time?
    Thank you

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  4 роки тому +1

      1) Use the delta symbol.
      This is from the Taranis Manual:
      "If the subtrim behaviour is left in a linear mode then the subtrim acts just like holding the joystick that amount to one side of centre. But since the joystick still begins from its physical centre, if you continue to move the stick to its limit on that side, then the signal to the servo will max out before the stick does. If you move the stick to the opposite side, the stick stops before the servo signal reaches its maximum. To the trimmed side, you still have the full 100% signal available but it arrives earlier. To the side away from the trim, you have less than 100% signal available to the servo by the amount of the trim given to the other side. Thus the addition of subtrim in a linear manner causes you to lose a little something on both sides of the stick.
      The final field to the far right of each line is called sub-trim mode and shows a default “Δ” symbol on the transmitter. This mode selection “ramps down” the stick-to-servo sensitivity and extends servo travel as necessary to cause both the stick and servo to max out together at the limiting values on both sides of the adjusted starting point. This default works well for simple set ups, i.e., multiple servos driven by a Y-cable or no mixes of other channels with this control channel. The variable stick-to-servo sensitivity can cause unexpected effects where mixes and curves are employed in the channel, so the “=“ alternative choice is available to retain the linear relationship at the expense of the trade-offs described above for trim and sub-trim."
      2) Yes. You simply enable both RF modules in the model setup. I've never setup a dual TX model before so I'm not exactly sure how it will work, but I'm sure you'll have to assign each TX a range of channels. i.e. Ch 1-8 TxA, Ch 9-16 TxB.

      RC Video Reviews thank you so much for the explanation. I was talking to someone in Europe and he is using 900mhz/2.4ghz on his plane. Dual FrSky 8ch rx ( 1-16ch) and one 900mhz. All connected with sbus. So he is transmitting both frequencies at the same time (redundancy). Which makes this system and also our radio of choice (tx16s or any other frsky ) as good as Jeti radios ( cheaper too ). Very interesting 🤔.

    That play delay feature is a basic SW debounce on an input. It's very common to implement on any input of a processor, especially mechanical switches as these litterally bounce a couple of times upon switching. To us humans it's indetectible, but these electronics pick them up very easily, as they can scan them a couple of hundred thousand times a second, or even millions of times a second.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 роки тому +1

      @21:27 I said there's an option for debugging analogs. You don't have analog keys, and I didn't say analog switches. The analog components are your sticks, sliders, and pots. There is an option next to "analogs" called "switches" and that is to verify switches, but it has nothing to do with the analog devices. @22:00 I said you can "debug your switches".
      I didn't cover max baud because I'm not aware of any devices capable of utilizing the UART interfaces on the bottom of the radio, so it made sense to skip that. But if you must know, the UARTS on the bottom are serial interfaces which require specification of the communication bitrate between the radio and the device. The baud rates establishes the max rate. For most serial devices I've used in my life, that max is 115,200.

    I normally fly fixed wing, and I have experimented with FPV in a glider. Recently, I have taken an interest in race and freestyle quads, so I purchased a TX16S, and a TinyHawk2.
    I plan on using this radio for both quads and fixed wing. I really like the multi-protocol feature of it. It will allow me to go from many transmitters to just a couple.
    I have a question about how well does this radio work as a radio? In other words, how does it compare to more expensive name brands when it comes to range, control surface centering, smooth control movement, link stability, and other aspects of actually controlling the model. There is no question about how good the model setup in this Tx is, and how much fine tuning can be done. I find numerous videos on how to do this. You series is one of the best, but I haven't found anyone talking about how well this radio works at the field when it is actually controlling the model. I use Flysky on a number of my models, and when i have changed a few of them over to Spek, I found a noticeable improvement in how they flew.
    So... Out at the field, when the model is in the air, how well does the TX16S stack up to the job of actually controlling the model?
    Thanks for your video series on this Tx. they are very helpful.

      Excellent questions, I'll do my best:
      Range - At least as good as my eyesight. The radio will outfly what I can see with standard receivers. I've never done an actual range test, but I have no concerns flying LOS. That's the best answer I can give.
      Centering - The channel monitor and the debug screen show physical movement and pulse output. Mine locks on center--well perfectly. On my older TX16s I upgraded to Futaba Heavy Duty springs from Amain. So I believe the mechanical aspects are as good as I could ask them to be.
      Resolution - I have no basis for comparison but the I see fluid surface movement as long as I don't have a crazy expo/weights setup or a wonky mechanical setup on the arm/horns.
      I'm not an F3A pilot, although I have a couple of F3A planes and have had a good time practicing F3A maneuvers using the TX16s and have no complaints.
      You've asked good and fair questions. I appreciate people like you who want to dig in but in a responsible way. My weakness here is basis for comparison. All I can say is I'm an experienced RC pilot and I wouldn't give up my TX16s for any other radio. I hope this information helps.

      Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. It sounds to me like you are happy with the performance of the TX16S as a radio.
      All of this state of the art programmability is great, but if the Tx doesn't fly the model well, it doesn't mean a thing. I know this because I tried a couple of FS-i10s and they were terrible radios. I am not a F3A pilot either, but I do appreciate the controllability of a good radio.
      Based on your feedback, I feel that this is going to be a good radio, and I look forward to learning its functions and programming.
      I got the TX16S to fly mini race quads on FrSky and other protocols, but I also hope to move a lot of my models to it and reduce the number of transmitters I need to take to the field with me. I literally keep a spread sheet posted on the wall so that I know which transmitters to take, given the models I am flying that day.
      I have over 70 models to choose from....yes....I said 70, I know this because my wife counted them all and told me so.
      They are spread across several different transmitters, and, with the help of the multi-protocal, I would like to consolidate that.
      This is not just a hobby....It's an obsession...Lol.
      Thanks again for your tutorials, you have done a great job with them.

    I can't find an instruction in the manual as to how to charge the battery. I have the lead and can find the Radio's charging port. There are lots of instructions telling you what not to do but nothing telling you what to do. Can it plug into any USB power supply, like your mobile phone charger or any PC port? Should the radio be off or on? Pretty basic instruction that should be supplied with the radio methinks. I don't want to damage it. Thanks Kev.

      The radio has a charge control circuit. Just feed it from a USB-C cable. Doesn’t matter if it’s on or off but it will charge slower if it’s on.

      @@RCVideoReviews Thanks I have it plugged into my desktop and on charge now, the radio is off. The on button has a green light on. Will it change colour when it is fully charged. I would have thought green was fully charged. My radio is the max version.

      @@RCVideoReviews It seems the green light goes out when fully charged. It's not logical to me.....it should be flashing red while charging and green when done. Maybe you can suggest that. Thanks for your help. The video is great, I feel more confident now about tackling some of the settings. Cheers Kev.

      Green goes off when it’s charged. Some people have reported blinking green but mine just goes off.

      @@RCVideoReviews I have put a ticket in to Radiomaster support to look at the charging set up. Cheers Kev.
