They literally made that song from ten sound effects sounds and Takei’s “oh my”. It’s a masterpiece.

Having the show devolve into the entire cast grabbing instruments and performing a cheesy non sequiter pop song was the most early 70s cartoon thing ever. My favorite part was when they dropped the 2 monsters fighting into the middle of it.
Actually that was Spock's pet sehlat, I'chaya from an episode of the animated series called "Yesteryear". I'chaya is killed protecting both young Spock and the visiting older Spock who has been flung there by the Guardian of Forever.

Makes me wish they made a Sealab 2021 type show with the animated series.
Reminded me of those music sequences Filmation did for The Archies.

I like the way Tendi sings in this one. They should have her sing on Lower Decks.
I looked up the voice actor Noëll Wells and she actually has some music out. She hasn't released anything in awhile though, presumably because of Lower Decks.
@@MisterYankou She also voiced Lord Dominator in Wander Over Yonder, which meant she got to sing the brilliant song I'm The Bad Guy.

Sadly, since Paramount took a tax write-off when they let Prodigy go, they legally cannot talk about it as their property for at least 3 (possibly 6) years!

This is amazing. I like how they implemented classic trek sounds into the song, and I’m glad they made up.

They get the looks and sounds of that era so right in these cartoons. I love them all.
In this one, I was particularly impressed, because Tendi looks like her modern animation, and the other characters look like their 70s animation, yet they blend seamlessly together.

I could watch the 1973 Animated Series over and over again and NEVER tire of it. It's my go-to DVD set whenever I need a pick-me-up!
Love that it ended with the two best. And this one ended with a song

This was absolutely beautiful. Also, it's a good thing Scotty took off his pants, because there was that one episode where they forgot to paint his pants, so we know he just wasn't wearing pants at the time and not just poorly animated.
Will they explain why McCoy was wearing a yellow shirt in that one scene?

The bosun’s whistle is my ring tone and the original series communicator chirp is my text tone…their song severely raised my blood pressure!
That’s why I stopped using the communicator beep as my ringtone… kept thinking I was getting phonecalls when I was watching TOS 😂

I agree. I was excited that Prodigy was in the previous video meaning there might be hope for it. But I guess we didn't see VOY or DSN or ENT in this one either so it was just random characters celebrating TAS.

@@DanBen07 I wasn’t talking about the _Very Short Treks_ series. I was talking about this episode, particularly when Tendi pointed out that TAS paved the way for a show like _Lower Decks_ but didn’t feel the need to say that it paved the way for _Lower Decks_ *and* _Prodigy._

I have enjoyed them all except the booger one because I don't like gross-out humor in the slightest.
the issue with the early short Treks for me is the humor kinda crass and not Trek style humor.

That song felt like one from the old Dr Demento show. I really liked it. I'm glad they made up.
That was so cool, especially since they managed to include the voice and character of Scotty so authentically! I have to give special props to the actor who voiced him because he sounded so much like James Doohan!

Prodigy was your best animated, and only show geared for younger viewers: the fact that it was canned for a tax write off is a disgrace.
DS9 is better.
Wasn’t the best anitmated by a long shot the animation style to many ppl I know, many of which loved the story, hated the animation style. It’s cheap and tacky, this is retro and lovely, and lower decks is just so visually pleasing

This is definitely the best very short trek. The one before this was good but this is even better. Love it!
I'm actually pretty impressed by the voice work. M'ress was voiced by Majel Barret originally. The actress voicing her was pretty spot on. I assume Scotty was voiced by Chris Doohan.

His voice acting resume is honestly insane. Very talented.
This reminds me of some of some of the old music videos Cartoon Network used to do with old cartoons (Still remember "That Time is Now" with the Superfriends). Wish they were preserved for streaming (and also this one; it's a good song; Noel Wells is great)

I would buy that single. I love the irony that not a single voice in the entire cartoon was voiced by Jame Doohan, unlike TAS where he voiced almost everything around.

This was the best one so far, glad this one seems to actually like itself. Also, always love a song
X-Presidents vibes, which of course mimicked the pop songs that the Archies, the Jackson 5, Fat Albert, Josie and the Pussycats, Jem and the Holograms, or Kidd Video would do.
It started out doing the same joke as the first of these shorts, but had a much better ending. It's got a bit of the feel of Yellow Submarine's "It's All Too Much" scene.

I was three years old Star Trek the Animated Series was on TV don't really remember it but I do have the animated series on DVD and this little tribute is just awesome

I've been hating of these "VERY SHORT TREKS". But this one I practically liked. Anyone who grew up on FILMATION recalls those psychedelic Music Performance Montages they did on shows like "THE ARCHIES", "THE GROOVY GHOULIES", "THE HARDY BOYS", etc could see this as a cool tribute of sorts.

I loved the silly references to the sixties "rock band" look that Archie, Brady Kids, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids had.
I've seen it three times, it's grown on me. "Put love on your duty roster!" Very cool!

It's awesome that they got Noël Wells to break out her singing voice for this episode. For those who don't know, D'Vana Tendi was not the first green-skinned alien that she played. She played Lord Dominator in the Disney series Wander Over Yonder, and had sung a song in that called "I'm the Bad Guy." In fact, Fred Tatasciore (Shaxs in Lower Decks) provided the male voice for Lord Dominator while she's wearing her helmet, and he also had a line in that song as well.
Out of all of the very short treks, you got one that I can get behind and this is it ;)

I'm glad you like her, but she's a little too nerdbait for me. I prefer characters like Mariner, T'Lyn, honestly Boimler so far has had the best character growth in the entire show. Also, it's Lieutenent Tendi now :P.

@@dralberthofmann Animation is typically done "on 2s" meaning they duplicate one frame, holding it out, and only providing a new animation every other frame. Animating on 1s makes for a more smooth experience, but it also means having to animate twice as many frames.
Animation "on 6s" means holding one frame out for six frames, and would appear hilariously not-smooth, and that made me laugh.
I don't know if Star Trek: The Animated Series was actually animated on 6s, but they notoriously used animation cost-saving measures, so I actually wouldn't be surprised. Even if not always, they certainly used slow or static frames at times. Riker saying they were animated on 6s is kind of a more intelligent way to say what Tendi said, that "their animation was a little stiff."
