      Can you do a video on dying hair. I have greys at my crown but not the rest of my hair. I have dark brown hair just past my shoulders. Do I mix two different bowls? one 10 and one 20? and get two dye tubes. It just seems like I would be wasting one tube of dye for just a small amount of grey. Is there a better way to do this? Thank you@@brittneealexushair

    I have been coloring my own hair for over 25 years and this is THE most helpful video I’ve ever come across! I’ve gone from permanent to Demi and back always covering greys. I get conflicting info about developer. It’s never explained well by anyone like it’s some secret so we won’t do our own color. Uhgg. You are such a jem! Thank you.

      Hey! I'm planning to color my very dark brown hair to light warm brown. Will 6% 20 volume developer be enough? And Also I got to know that hydrogen peroxide solution does the same job as a developer. So can 6% hydrogen peroxide solution be used instead of 6% developer?

      i'm so sorry to hear that :( luckily for the future i feel like us new wave stylists are more interested in furthering both our own and our clients knowledge of hair vs old school either didn't know the answers because they never questioned the "why?" just knew that "when you do this, then this happen" or even when they did know they wanted to gatekeep the ancestors. i think youtube videos like this are a big reason why actually. it shifted the stylist culture into a more hospitable, educational, caring environment in the salons vs just trying to get people in and out so avoiding questions to maximize profit like we're taught to in school bc that's how they've always done things before us

    Last year I used a 50% Deevelopee at home, 1 hour + some change , 1st time ever bleaching my hair, to remove 4 layers of recently dyed hair (blue, green, red, black, brown). Scarest thing ever! and it Worked!!!! I used foils too. Love my blonde hair. ❤ but do no know if I would have the courage to repeat that. So glad my hair is a beast.

    This video was so informative, thank you. A hairstylist friend told me that I could water down my developer if I needed something less strong and it turns out I only need about 8% to color my curly, porous gray so I’m able to do it at home and use just enough developer to cover my roots and cause the least amount of damage possible. But it’s so helpful to have all this context and information to understand what’s going on!

    It was traumatic and he’s scared to do it again but really liked the white and wants to have it again but is scared to do it.
    His hair is longer now with the top hair at 15cms and the back 5cms and would like advise going forward as to which volume you would recommend and if we should rather do foils so as not to touch the scalp🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @michellestrunsee9729
    @michellestrunsee9729 7 місяців тому

    Great video, thank you for the very detailed explanation! I bleach my buzz cut at home. Because my hair is so short I can use 30 volume. I would describe my natural color as very light brown or dark (dishwater blonde). My scalp is not sensitive so I can leave the bleach on for the full time of 55 minutes and the result is a very pale yellow (light the inside of a banana). My question is regarding toner. I can not seem to find a toner that will get me to that perfect white platinum you see with a lot of beautiful blonde buzz cuts. I have used T18 toner but it seems to wash out very quickly and I still have pale yellow. Purple shampoo's (I've tried to many to count) do absolutely nothing to get the yellow out for some reason. I follow the instructions on the toner and use with 20 volume for about 15 minutes. If I leave it on any longer then my hair turns purple, not platinum. So frustrating! I have also tried Ugly Duckling professional brand high lift color in 100V. It says it will lift 2-3 levels using 30 volume. I pretty much am getting the same result. Am I missing something I could be doing or maybe a different brand toner?

    Hey Brittnee.... I have been doing my own hair since the Pandemic... have always followed you. I tend to use Schwarzkopf plus their developer (30)... I have noticed lately that it doesn't seem to look 'Lightened" I do my grey roots night before I just use that Men's beard thing brown ... lol.... then the next day I will do my highlights using a cap. Does bleach and developer go off???? as in, do not work any more? Also can I put ANY developer with my Schwartzkopf bleach powder?????? like Salon Care or Wella????? I think I recall you saying you can use any developer?????

    You’ve just explained that beautifully! Question ~ I have hot roots (not sure of exact reason) I’m having a hell of a time getting them to blend with my medium cool brown hair. Are you thinking 10v developer? I’ve been trying to find the volume of my L’Oréal box ~ hard to get an accurate answer. Thank you for your knowledge and for the way you share it.

    Hey! I'm planning to color my very dark brown hair to light warm brown. Will 6% 20 volume developer be enough? And Also I got to know that hydrogen peroxide solution does the same job as a developer. So can 6% hydrogen peroxide solution be used instead of 6% developer?

    Hi brittnee , so if I dyed my hair dark brown shade and I want to do blonde highlights only, what volume developer should I use ?? And also do I have to use bleach with it? Or all three products that’s volume developer, bleach and the hair color (which I wanna go for blonde)

    Coloring my hair this weekend but I am seeing conflicting info about coloring the roots first or last after the ends. I don’t want hot root 😖

      really depends on what your outcome goals are but just remember the hair at the root will lift way faster- your head radiates heat and it speeds up the lightener, also if it's virgin hair it will go a lot faster

    I love how you explain things! I cut my hait this morning usibg your video from tour orher channel. I'm so impressed! Thank you!
    When my hair gets done, ive been told they just use toner so "I dont go ginger" (Inave a lot of red tones). Its definitely only one tube they squeeze into the bowl before brushing onto the foils. Is this actually right? Indont have a harsh colour change, it just lightens my roots like Ive been out in the sun for a month.

    Hi Brittnee, I did an at home keratin about a week and half ago. My roots need a little help with the grey(I’m traveling tomorrow), should I use a 10 developer instead of 20 since I’m not waiting the 2 weeks to color my hair? I’m trying not to ruin the keratin because I’ll need for the Caribbean 😂

    Hi, if my color calls for a 10 vol, can I use a 20 vol developer ? The ratio on the color is 1:2 (Wella) thanks!

    Hi Brittnee! Not sure if I understand completely? Am I able to use a 30-volume for highlighting only, no highlighting powder required? I have fine and thin hair, so I never use much to begin with.

    • @brittneealexushair
      @brittneealexushair  11 місяців тому +1

      you can use 30 volume with lightener but would stick to 20 if your hair is fine and thin- it can mix with the crème or powder bleach

    Thank you! This was so helpful! I had highlights down about 6 weeks ago and I’m doing a toner touch up at home with Redken EQ shades using the same ones my stylist used. I did it last night with equal parts toner to equal developer 10 for 20 minutes (no cap or heat). It looks a little better but still a little brassy for my taste. I’m going to try a 20 developer. How soon can I redo it without hurting my hair or scalp? Thanks again!

    Can you mix developer with store box dye to achieve better results with the color deposit?

    Hey Brit..some help please. My client is a level 2/3 throughout and im wanting to achieve bright violet/red plum tones. Shes not really keen on prelightening, perhaps use
    1) 10vol with bleach for atleast 1/2 levels lift then tone with 20vol, violet and red
    OR
    2) mix violet and red with 40vol. We wanting more violet than red reflect so i wouLd obviously add more violet than red but do you think i should use 30 or 40vol to achieve a bright light plum tone.. please Advise
