One of the downsides of gel blaster, splat ball, or orbeez guns is that they are notoriously inaccurate. The gel balls are soft and squishy and deform during flight causing them to spin off in different directions.

Alright I have a must mod for you. I searched how to do a ball detent for airsoft... there is one that works great. Take a large drill bit down the feed neck. Make a small notch not hole just for the ball to sit in. On the surge your spot is the drain hole. On the XL your spot is slightly in front of the bolt tip not at the drain hole. Just trying to help a fellow tech with new video idea's.

Is that to prevent multiple balls from entering the barrel at once?

@@engineerable yes I just tested it for an hour. Its not perfect but 8 out of 10 are single shot now. What I also found thats interesting. A few of my XL operate closed bolt while the others are a mix of both open and closed. I'm wondering if that is programming or a mechanical switch of some sort?

I just did a second gun I think that drain hole is the spot you want on both surge and XL. Remomber just adding a crater NOT enlarging the drain hole.
Just use you hand with the bit not a drill. Very easy and useful mod.

@@ixclusiverc ok, good idea. Would be interesting to also 3D print a little flexible finger that goes in the t piece and prevents the gel ball from sliding forward into the barrel until pushed by the nozzle. I've seen that type of retention used in paintball guns.

@@engineerable I'm actually a paintballer of 25 years, I thought of an external detent, just wasn't sure if the bolt speed would catch and get stuck. Wait till you hear the next mod I have for you😁.

You can get adhesive aluminium shimming tape from an electronics hobby store

Why the hop up is at the front of the barrel? Isn't the hop up should be at the t piece, just like for airsoft guns?

In airsoft, the barrel ID is larger than the bb. In gel blaster, the barrel ID is the same or slightly smaller than the gel ball. Therefore the gel ball will not spin consistently inside the barrel. It has to be spun once outside the barrel.

It works, but the adjustablity was useless, because even at the lowest setting it was too much hop-up.
