First time I ever heard this song I was 14 getting ready for school early in the morning and it was on vh1. Back then I listened to bands like misfits, dead Kennedy's, black flag, nofx, and on the other hand I really liked alternative like Smashing Pumpkins, nirvana and I wasn't sure where garbage fit in but I liked it. I still do all these years later and they have made some really good music over the years. "Queer" LYRICS
Hey boy, take a look at me
Let me dirty up your mind
I'll strip away your hard veneer
And see what I can find
The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
The lamest of the lame
The numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
You choke behind a smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
This is what he pays me for
I'll show you how it's done
You learn to love the pain you feel
Like father like son
The queerest of the queer
Hide inside your head
The blindest of the blind
The deadest of the dead
You're hungry cause you starve
While holding back the tears
Choking on your smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
I know what's good for you (You can touch me if you want)
I know you're dying to (You can touch me if you want)
I know what's good for you (You can touch me if you want)
But you can't stop
The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
The lamest of the lame
The numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
You choke behind a smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
You're nothing special here
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
I know what's good for you
I know you're dying to
I know what's good for you
I bet you're dying to
You can touch me if you want
You can touch me if you want
You can touch me
You can touch me
But you can't stop.

It's based on a book where the father pays a prostitute to make his son "a man"
Rafael Last name
That wasn't mentioned in the Garbage interview. Not saying it's not true, but Garbage didn't say that.
Muito bom. Valeu.
+Gloomy sunday Wow, that's not a disturbingly homophobic interpretation you have there at all. Thank you so much for sharing.
Butch vig is an awesome musical engineer, he just understands music from every angle to make it revolutionary or listenable or anything he wants it to be. One of the best of our time.
Why did I stop listening to them for so long? Good to start listening to them again. The 90's had such awsome music! I'm getting old.🙁
Take me back to the times when this song released. Loved garbage as a kid and still love their new music and I was lucky enough to see them live for there 20 years queer tour and they were fantastic what a great band.
One of the best bands of the 90s🤘😎
I can't really express/explain just how her voice, the music and lyrics just mezmerise and persuade you to come along for the ride. Good song .. "But you can't stop" ..
Wonderful song and full of meaning. They don't write things like this anymore. And Shirley is just divine !!!
This is the song that introduced me to Garbage and I have been an ultra fan ever since. They just keep coming up with great music!
Love it
Beautiful, mysterious, charismatic, intelligent, talented ...
Entitled, spoiled, bitchy, BUT talented, etc., etc......
Oh Shirley... My first celebrity crush
Still number one to me
Record producer: This is garbage.
Shirley: Thats what we should name our band!
That’s exactly how it happened, except it was one of the guys’ dads who said it rather than a record producer, and it was before Shirley joined.
@@HalfShelli LOL that’s what I was referencing, but I didn’t know all the details! Glad someone was paying attention. Thanks!🙂
I honestly think this was one of the best songs they ever produced ❤️
If
Crush comes second
This song is straight sex. The beat, her voice, lyrics. It's the total package. Perfect addition to any mix for fooling around.
Uh?
It’s not STRAIGHT sex, can’t you read the goddamn title?!
@@Pukeprincess If we're gonna act like we don't understand implication of words, she could simply mean odd. Or we can try to bring it down a bit and have a good time with some lols. lol
@@Hitoritaka I’m joking
@@Hitoritakain this context it's supposed to mean strange or odd, as told by one of the band members. It means the boy who the song's about who's a bit queer (odd, not homosexual) and then his father hires a prostitute to "make him a normal man"
Ширли-шикарная,супер певица!
you choke behind a smile
a fake behind the fear
yeah 90s had so many songs that had such profound lyrics it's a real lost art today
kreed82
The Catcher in the Rye; one of Shirley's fav books and also Mark David Chapman's.
A joke behind the smile dear
shirley is a goddess
...clearly...!!!
Her name is Shirley?
Damn, she is so fascinating!
Amazing, I love her so much!
morkinor indeed
Mr.steal yourgirl to be or not to be
I loved this album half a lifetime ago and I'm still listening to it. That's how great this band is!
I've been listening to and loving this absolutely genuine band since 1996. Suppose those who've supporting the band for so long they are real music lovers
I've been looking years for garbage, and now I've found them.
Nostalgia brought me here.
A mi también.
Nice!
Future Cadaver tome su like buen hombre
Hormones brought me here.
it brought me too, damn I miss the 90’s
Just saw them in concert opening for Tears for Fears. This song sounded great performed live.
Seeing them tonight in Chicago. Can't wait!
I saw them too in LA! They were amazing 😍
I'm seeing them a week from today, for the first time ever. I'm beyond excited 😁
Saw them open for TFF in Detroit, they were great!
saw them last night at Long Island🥴😍
La musica non ha regole...ma ha chi sa interpretare la sua natura...e adomesticarla con le parole che vengono dal pensiero...per darle poi la voce...quella che viene dal cuore...
grazie Garbage...
Highschool fav still
this + some depeche mode
My two favorite songs ever
my two favorite bands 😌😌
This song is so awesome that it doesn't sound like a 20 years old song. In fact, it sounds better than lots of "today's hits" Once a classic, always a classic!
A hit is a hit
are you under some kind of impression that being newer means being better?
One of the sexiest songs ever!♥♥♥
totally agree
isn't really surprising, since the whole music video seems like one big metaphor for popping a cherry
Can't help but see all the 70's &early 80's cars in this video. And yes she dirtier up my mind!!!
Crazy how many hits they had…
Вы - лучшие музыканты вместе с певицей! Обожаю вас и жду нового. Удачи вам!
Me: *How many ways can one woman look beautiful/hot/sexy?*
Shirley Manson: *How much time do you have?*
This song wakes me up each morning. So perfect and mellow.
Living in Bondi Beach in the early 90s . Watching RAGE on the tv and came across this clip blew my mind. Shirley and her raw sex appeal was undeniable. Garbage's music was also incredible. I feel so old but grateful to experience this.
Randomly remember this band after not listening to them in years. Thank you for making my night!
20 years later, this songs still gives me goose bump. Amazing...
Still can't find music today that's half as good as this
+Morag Baxter Sad but true!
True !
Then you're not looking well enough because there is so much great music today. Like there was always, you just have to stop being lazy.
@MMD yes thank you
MMD I've spend A LOT of time checking out new alternative, non mainstream, indie bands and all that stuff and I haven't found even one song as good as 90s alternative rock music. You say music is still good as it has always been, so go on and show me a song as good as 90s rock...
I don't know if any other singer has such a perfect amount of sexy in their voice: enough to be alluring, but not enough to distract from the lyrics.
Wendy James transvision vamp
Will check it out.
Lauren Jauregui
PJ Harvey has.
maybe fiona apple?
The joke behind the smile.
The fate behind the fear.
I swear these are the darkest lyrics ever laid down in a song
*fake
Every man's fantasy. Thank you! Timeless!!!
I love love love this song. So many memories. I loved this band. Got me through my early 20's
I just love the deeb, kinda dark rolling sound of those drums and bass.. and Shirleys epic voice over that. Its just awesome!
Oh my god, she is so amazing. Beautiful, aggressive, hypnotic, hot, perfect and all at the same time. I really fall in love. And I miss music of 90-s a lot.
I still have their old poster on my wall up to this day and i can't help but think they've always look so cool, and still do up to this day.
2020 - The Quarantine Year - and I still love Shirley and Garbage.
It’s incredible to believe how a beautiful woman like Shirley Manson was a Bullying victim.
I'd say the most beautiful and interesting people were bullied in their past.
@@ici_marmotte well said.
bullies are insecure people so it would only make sense, they were obviously incredibly jealous of her
@@ici_marmotte Im agree
It's not too hard to believe; bullying is almost always more about the people doing it than their victims.
This album still holds up PERFECTLY
I’m a big fan of this amazing band . J’adore!❤️
I'm quite sure that Shirley goes both ways, and that's real cool!
Shirley...
SO BEAUTIFUL💕👍
Great band!
Defining a generation of deep, dark, hard, sexy, female dominance....
Fn give it to me Shirley....
I'll love you forever no matter what.
You not the only one .
Oof chill. Also 100th like
His momma said that some music is the devils music and I need to stop entertaining demons 😇...
I don't understand why modern women are obsessed with dominance and power. You do realise they come across as small, fragile and weak children who have just watched their first Marvel movie and are saying I'M THE HULK IM SO STRONG AND STUNNING AND BRAVE lol
This comment fucks.
Dem Doe Eyes!! Freshman year of college and this was my first introduction to Garbage. I was hooked immediately and still am 26 years later.
Mine was "Only Happy....". They seem with a number of their songs to hit the nail on the head with the way the youth were feeling at the time. "Only Happy...." is one of my theme tunes.
Still rocking it 30 years later!
I just randomly clicked on this video and decided to watch it for a while. I kept thinking to myself, this video has nothing in common with any of my interests. Then, BAM!!! at 2:57 IT BECAME PERFECTLY CLEAR!!!!
