- A couple of months ago, Hodinkee Senior Editor James Stacey traveled to Austria to photograph some incredible vintage Porches. While he was there, he leapt at the chance to visit Ferdi Porsche, the son of Dr. Wolfgang Porsche and nephew of F.A. Porsche, at his home in Zell Am See to see his multi-generational collection of remarkable watches and even a few very cool cars.

I really like Ferdi’s explanations and attitude. His love of design and how it ties to the family he obviously appreciates and stewards.
Went to school with ferdi not seen him since I was 17 , really enjoyed this he seems very happy
This is the collection of a person who loves watches, not someone looking to invest in hype watches. Kudos to Mr. Porshce, and to James as well.
So true ❤
Porsche
Awsome! You should be more in europe. Pure class and no show-off.
Yeah what’s wrong with American guest? European and Japanese guests are more down to earth imho
A collection that reflects its owners philosophy and ideals… inspiring. This is why sharing your collection should feel like a confession. Great episode!
this guy seems super chill and grounded! surprising and entertaining! good stuff hodinkee!
This was amazing !! The watches, the cars……..perfect collection
I love guys who grew up with money yet are still modest and have an appreciation of style. Ferdi has one of my favourite collections to date both in cars and watches.
The man really understands and values the design and heritage of those pieces. These tiny ideas with links to different cars like the winner of the ice race. The fact that he waits with the ice race to time it with the anniversary. Truly well thought.
What I liked the most is that regardless of design or technology he understands, that the most valuable pieces of the collection are connected with strong memories and / or heritage. How he likes the scratches from the ring on the car handle, because it reminds him of his mother driving the car is just fantastic.
Great interview, wonderful guest, really authentic.
I wish him that his collection continues to grow in such great taste.
What an amazing and unique collection. You can tell he loves design
Great episode, James is so great in these videos and you can tell that the two of them love watches just as much as cars and design
Great to see a collection that is not about flexing, but about family and memories. Also, great cars and interesting color combos; the brown Taycan was especially nice 👌🏻
It is flexing though, in a “if you know you know” way. There’s a couple expensive watches in there that are worth a lot. AP, Rolex, jaeger
This may just be my favourite edition of Talking Watches. It is very clear that each piece means something special to the guest. However, what struck me was how each watch is distinct in its own right, while not being a "typical" edition. The fact that this collection was unintentional is what makes it all the more charming. And how sweet is that Unimatic Amos Project?!
I appreciate that he is not afraid to beat up his watches a little. More people need this attitude. We only live once folks!
One of the best episodes. Pure class and love for the hobby. No showing off and other (some) american collectors nonsense.
The stories are what makes Talking Watches rewatchable.
I’ve never met Ferdi but watching this makes me feel like I’ve known him my whole life. What a great personality. Here’s to hoping I’ll bump into him in the Stuttgart region at some point.
Just had a couple of drinks with him in Kitzbühel. He's a chilled guy
James needs to do more of these. Such a great episode. The cars really tied it together and right in his wheel house.
To me this is the best Talking Watches since Grahame Fowler. Stacey is just so good at bring out the passion in the interviewee. The folks behind the camera really outdid themselves with the video work as well. Top marks to Ferdi's family for raising a seemingly well adjusted kid.
How can you not like this guy
James Stacey is back and all is right in the Hodinkee universe! More of this class act plz 🙏
A great chilled episode that suits the personality and feel of the place, really nicely done. Also appreciate that he has a collection of pieces that have nothing to do with flexing but are personal in some way to him. A Ploprof, Reverso and a Kontiki all in one very tidy collection. James always nails letting the subjects do the talking too. Top marks the H team.
Missed these great Talking Watches!!! Keep them coming HODINKEE!!!
Talking watches is the best !!
What a special legacy, and it's nice to see Ferdi appreciates it. Cool guy.
That episode was great! More like this please
How is it that anyone from porsche family has a sophisticated sense of style and attention to details! Even his shirt is from one of the sponsors Porsche won le mans with in 1994.
Shirt manufacturer?
@@Yorkiepoocharlie FATurbo International
Context second. Money first. Doesn’t take much more
Thats true but… come on he has the money but could have had flex watches instead of this
@@cezarb4047I mean, when you have been rich all your life, you tend to not care about being flashy. And coming from the family that he does, that's a flex in and of itself.
Fantastic episode. Love to see the passion come through. Design is a universal language- cars, watches, all of it!
One of the best talking watches
What a great episode and a cool variety in the collection. My favorite is the Royal Oak with the military dial
You can really see that he rocks his watches! ❤ Great video!
Wonderful at all levels. Thank you both.
you gotta come back to this guy! what a gentleman. id love to truly be friends with someone like him, sounds genuine and his respect and appreciation for his family is close to the way i myself view my family. bravo!
Came in expecting some entitled rich kid.... got an absolute dude, who's humble, appreciates legacy but is categorically forging his own path. Keep being you Ferdi lad
Great episode, amazing collection from what seems like a knowledgeable collector.
You could see a pts oak green metallic 991.2 gt3 touring in the background too! Pure class and great taste in cars and watches!
Was just going to write that too! Too bad they didn’t show that one from different angles :( It looked quite good in the sun!
He seems incredibly kind and humble. Had to wait 3 years for a Cartier Crash, lol. Many people these days would have said "did you happen to notice my last name?'" to the salesperson in Vienna.
Brilliant episode…….
What an amazing episode
SHAMELESS PLUG - Love seeing James in the XK SweatShirt! Such a great episode
Spectacular interview.
Such a good episode, awesome guest with an equally awesome collection.
The quality of the content is astonishing! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy it!
Pure class. Go Hodinkee….you’re back!
Did not expect this to be as cool as it turned out! Great video!
pure elegance... gold AP quartz... love porsche but never had one...
Such a special and charming episode! Thank you James and thank you Ferdi. That Integrale is what dreams are made of and the perfect touch to ask what watch works with which car. As a lover of both cars and watches this is exactly the fantasy
Great show! Great collection of watches and Ferdi seems very humble and kind.
This was the best TW in a good while. Ferdi seems like a really down to earth and cool guy too. Loved this, great job.
peaceful, calming and informative ⌚❤️
Loved this episode, cool guy great watches and sick cars great combination
Also he was humble for being some of his stature and family history
I always look forward to talking watches
this guy is cool. not the typical watches you’d normally see.
My dad passed down the Royal Oak military dial to me, and I got it serviced recently and it looks almost brand new now... one of my favourites in my collection, and definitely the one that meant the most to me.
Loved this episode - really cool collection of unique and special watches. Never seen the 2 Royal Oaks before, they look really cool!
Fantastic to hear from a true collector - very inspiring! 🤘🏻
great video, love the iwc pd compass watch and the hf integrale of eugenio amos of course 🤩💚
Big fan of James' work. Keep these videos comin!
Great episode! Things that we pass on to the next generation and learn to appreciate them. Good job!
Welp best talking watches so far. Well done.
Love the story of Ferdi and his watches
Finally. Glad to see Mr. Stacey doing it again. The best!
Lovely ep!
Featuring a collector who also happens to have a financial interest in a watch that happens to also be featured? What a coincidence.
Enjoyed this episode. Cliche I know but cars and watches go hand and hand.
This was a wonderful episode. I’ve been eyeing a Unimatic. Such a fascinating watch company.
Great show. Love that 964!!
Awesome Talking Watches... great cars...
Expected a lot but not to see the Delta, wow, it's a very closed and private family as we see a lot in that region so amazing to see him show his very interesting collection watches and cars, I share a lot of his taste and passion including the skiing part
Another great episode guys| As Italians we love to see Unimatic and Automobili Amos features in this video!
This guy hit the jackpot
Truly Refreshing to see this collection, particularly with the Reverso
What an awesome and down to earth guy that Ferdi! Really adore him. Especially since his grandfather is a legitimate boss but he doesn't go an act all cool and stuff. Really nice dude
Amazing collection
Great episode
Wow. This was thoroughly enjoyable to watch! Thank you Hodinkee!
You found the one guy that would want a Porsche watch❤
Grey nato spec episode 👌 loved it!
Great episode that! Really enjoyed it 👍👍
Best episode in a while
Best Hodinkee interviewer.
This one was REALLY special!
Great discussion!
Good guy, great episode
A worthy collection of watches and cars (who would have guessed?)!
Awesome episode
Best ever ,talking hands is back
I love that y'all are going deep into designers and storied corporations vs celebrities.
This is absolutely epic
Keep James! The best
Hodinkee hitting it out of the park yet again
This was a great edition.
So so good
Always a great interviewer. Nice one.
Awesome!
Amazing
Respect, watches with story.
What a rad dude
What a great episode and what a collection. Not a big fan of the Reverso, but other than that nothing that I wouldn’t love to have in the collection.
An Orfina Porsche Design Chrono is definitely missing in my box. I wanted to buy one once but left with a Speedmaster Mark 4.5 🤷🏼♂️
