I think so too. That is why I listen to music and try to get better at song-writing to regenerate. I also got into the hobby of audio gear and started "collecting" iems and audio gear in general for their design, uniqueness and presentation of music, just like they do with watches. I also want to thank Ed Sheeran if he´s reading this for great times with enjoying his music and for bringing out his cool new "project" autumn variations. The way it was done and the emotions behind it showed me new ways of approaching music and often triggered my depressions, which is, in some way shitty, but also shows how much emotion it can trigger and makes me think about different thinks of life. I’m not a watch guy I’m just here because I’ll watch any Mayer interview. Not only does this video make me want to go out today and start collecting watches, but also makes me want to go listen to Ed again. What a great lovely guy.
Ed really is a class act. The simple mention of sadness at seeing his custom Tudor’s up for sale during the pandemic shows an empathy I imagine is missing for most at his level of celebrity.
Just because they have money and success, it doesn’t mean they’re a sociopath😂 I’ve seen countless artists speak about the symbiotic relationships they have with the people who work for them - most are well aware that they cannot do what they love on a level that makes them fabulously wealthy without the support of their crew…and since they know what they pay those people, they’re also incredibly aware that those same individuals can’t feed their families if they aren’t taking the show out on the road on a reasonably regular basis.
The fact that they both wore the matching Spider-man watches when Ed opened for John back in September is hysterical and amazing. The ending of this video literally shows the moment these guys double dared each other with the “I’ll get one if you get one” on a $250k watch. This entire video is amazing.
The way john mayer talks is unreal. This man has god-given talent at talking, what a flow, natural, choice of words, tonality, confidence and friendliness and honesty lol.

John Mayer needs to do a series of these this all of his obsessions. Guitars, Amps, Pedals, Mics, Pre's, Outboard Gear, Knives. His collectors mind is fascinating and to see him do this with a bunch of people over a bunch of different topics would be increidble. Would be so cool to combine the different world of collectors.
The "Jamal" that Ed Sheeran mentions was Jamal Edwards, who inarguably is the most important person you've never heard of in modern British music. All someone who did brilliant work in his community, who amplified authentic artistic voices, and helped make the world that much better. Really glad Sheeran remembers him so positively.
John is an underrated interviewer. His enthusiasm for watches is very easy to spot, but how he's able to coax these little stories out of Ed about his watches was very gratifying and created an almost fly-on-the-wall feeling for I imagine most of us on this side of the screen. Great video, thank you Hodinkee for bringing it to us fans & enthusiasts.
John went from what he, himself, called an “egomaniac” thinking no one was better, to being able to sincerely compliment someone else and call them better than him without batting an eye. Growth.
The outro took this to a whole other level. I knew I was in for a memorable experience in listening to this conversation and truly, it delivered. But that ending was phenomenal. John is a poet with his words and Ed lives an inspiring life. They both connect and express themselves through watches, much like their music; Artists in every sense of the word. This was so entertaining. Just a conversation between friends. One of John's great qualities is his open honesty about his feelings . Love the way he speaks and his use of language. And Ed is really receptive to that . Great to see them together
When I see John Mayer talking watches it gives me the feeling that there is nobody who loves watches more than him. I can feel his passion which makes it so exciting and having a great guest like Ed elevates it to the next level.
This might be my favourite hour of UA-cam in existence. Hearing these guys talk about watches in the same way the rest of us do, its really heart-warming..
Loved this episode! Really interesting to see the similar yet contrasting views/approaches to collecting between these two incredible artists. In all facets, Mr. J. C. Mayer brings his own unique flare to the interview which cannot be reproduced but this episode really underscores how great of an interviewer/listener Mr. Ben Clymer is.
*The sheer amount of knowledge and passion for timepieces in this video is incredible. I could watch these two for hours. True ambassadors to the watch game and also humble and well spoken. Thank you Hodinkee for the episode*
I’m 9 mins in and this is already the best watch video I’ve ever seen! John Mayer is so good at articulating the passion for watches without delving into snobbery. Congrats! This is an incredible transition for John Mayer. We always knew he had the chops. So awesome he was able to act on an opportunity that he really loves. Mind blowing and great. Onward and upward. I love it. Love him
The music in this episode was simply delicious! Sounds like John Mayer’s style too. I wouldn’t be surprised if John himself did the music for this. The outro vibe was just creamy!
I know what I heard. The spicy b-roll music was at the very least curated by this guy. Reminds me of Mayer’s (now inactive) SoundCloud accounts. Typing this listening to 23:20 rn
I love this video, cause you can see that they would have the same conversation with the same excitement even if there were no one else around. Love it!!
I can’t believe talking watches started that long ago, I learned of John Mayer through talking watches and now he’s my favourite artist and seen him live. Watches are an introduction to worlds you’re yet to be aware of.
For a moment, I thought Kevin O'leary was just a watch youtuber and partner with Teddy Baldasarre and had no idea he was a shark tank investor. Even after I know, I still think of Kevin a collector first that just so happens to also be a guy on Shark Tank.
These guys are so genuine in who they are despite their reasons to be anything but. Sheeran's approach to life, not just with watches, IS inspirational. Makes me ponder my own perspective. Superb video and audio editing as usual. Thanks, Hodinkee!
I really appreciate seeing and hearing people talking about anything they might passionately be addicted to collecting ‼ I didn’t realize Ed. Has that much “ink” Great to see them both so at ease with each other ‼
These guys are living legends. All their timepieces will be worth well over the value they purchased for. The scratches on it will make it even more valuable. They can safely throw out those boxes! 😃

I just can't stop watching... Both of them in a video AND talking about watches AND it's 72 min AND they get matching watches at the end?? I'm here for it, thanks Hodinkee
Fking love this! An hour in right now and hearing Ed Sheeran just say he would love Squirtle on a custom is hilarious. Thank you Hodinkee, John and Ed for this, much love from Singapore!
John freakin nailed this. They are both so genuine. I am so looking forward to them both wearing the Spider-mans together (while I wear mine vicariously through them).
I could listen to these two talking watches all day. The kinda guys you would love to buy them a beer and sit down and listen to the wealth of knowledge they both have and hear there amazing stories.
Watched this episode 10+ times and can’t stop coming back to it. We desperately need more of John and Ed talking watches!!
This was so entertaining. Just a conversation between friends. One of John's great qualities is his open honesty about his feelings . Love the way he speaks and his use of language. And Ed is really receptive to that . Great to see them together
Great episode! Please give us more of this longer format with a guest and host who know each other. Loved the stories and banter. Well done.
Pinocchio bot
I didn't even look for this and I didn't think I'd enjoy this so much, thanks youtube.
Wow! Just love this...and the last 10 minutes is pure GOLD! Such great energy these guys have... Love for Mayer just keeps growing!
I’m 9 mins in and this is already the best watch video I’ve ever seen! John Mayer is so good at articulating the passion for watches without delving into snobbery. He totally gets what watch collecting is all about. I own 30+ watches and forever my most valuable watch will be the simple quartz Seiko gifted to me by my dad on my 16th birthday.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. John is SO bright and knowledgeable about watches and aesthetics and he turns out to be a terrific interviewer. Great job fellas.
This is not only one of the best talking watches I've seen so far, it's also showcasing the beauty of pure friendship. And im so immersed into it. Thank you for making this happen❤
As a simple guy who owns a few mechanical watches I just watched an hour long video of two artists talking about their collection and I f*cking loved it! This was a great episode, thanks John! You're a great host.
WE NEED THESE 2 TALKING ABOUT WATCHES WEEKLY!
Such a great episode with 2 knowledgeable watch guys, and the chemistry was perfect between them. Super excited to grab Ed's new G Shock about to drop.
Weekly ? It would lose its value almost immediately
You think they have nothing else to do?
This Hass to be the best thing I have watched in quite a while! Thank you so much for putting this out and hopefully John gets to host more of these! Loved every minute of it!
John has the perfect trifecta in a host: he’s eloquent. He’s thoughtful. He has impeccable taste.
I’m not even a “watch guy” but this was just a great listen. Two dudes who really care about something explaining their passion. They also happen to be superstars but in this moment they’re just a couple of passionate people.
Aren't these two the most admired watch enthusiasts and collectors out there? If you would ask me to pick two guys you want to talk about watches to... these are the two that would come up in my mind immediately. What a great collection too... thanks @Hodinkee for this episode!
Such a boss move to wrap by purchasing the Spider-Man APs and receiving them together! Love this format. Keep it coming Hodinkee.
I've been coming back and forth to this absolute behemoth of a video during the week! What a treat you gave us, Hodinkee!
Great one. And all us watch guys know the exact feeling John shows at 35:50....so genuine.
This man never ceases to surprise me. Ive been waiting for pt3 of john mayer but this is better.
Had the same thought !! He for sure did it himself !!
Love it!!
Kudos to the both of you for getting the Spider-man watches and sharing the video of that with us. That's so awesome.
John needs to be the full time host!! Eds collection is amazing, need him on more often
Has that much “ink” Great to see them both so at ease with each other ‼
The Holy Grail Talking Watches Episode. Covers the true essence of collecting, the joy of it and the life experiences. Deeply inspiring!
Sometimes an hour long UA-cam video is just too much, not in this case, I was hanging on every word these legends said, Kudos Hodinkee
These guys are living legends. All their timepieces will be worth well over the value they purchased for. The scratches on it will make it even more valuable. They can safely throw out those boxes! 😃
This is genuinely the most beautiful video I have ever watched. Thank you JM, Ed and the Hodinkee team for this! So inspiring, not just about watches but life.
Fantastic episode of Talking Watches. Ed's journey through time is epic.
With over 10 years having watched Talking Watches, this episode simply cannot or will not be bettered. Unless you bring them back monthly. Thank you in advance
