- Massimo Frascella is responsible for some of the biggest automotive news in the last few years; he's the man who led the redesign of the ever-popular Land Rover Defender. The man has an eye for design, so it stands to reason that his watch collection would reflect that. And it certainly does.

This guy is great! Spent 10 years with one watch before he made the plunge into collecting, and he still maintains that modesty through refined design and meaningful choices.
This is what talking watches should be, not whatever the last one was!
Here here!! Much more like it!
That one was “Talking Bollocks”
Like I said, hits and misses, people! Hits and misses.
What was the last one? Has it been made private?
This!
What a beautiful collection. So nice his wife supports him and buys him watches!!
I’m still waiting for a guest who whips out a HODINKEE Travel Clock and proclaims it to be the pinnacle of their collection
Can someone explain the joke please?
@@lostinwonderland9927 Hodinkee sold a limited edition travel clock for a shed load of money and it’s been a meme ever since.
Give it time. It will happen… unfortunately
😂
@@bcwlstd6718 during the Covid lock down. A travel clock!!!
Great job getting Talking Watches back on track Cole! 👍
I would love to watch the full uncut interview, because that looked like a real watch collection with a little something for everyone, loved it
Cole always does such a great job on these.
Fantastic interview by Cole! He really did his homework on Jaguar & Land Rover. I appreciate the monotone voice and precise questions. Thank you for this insightful interview with Massimo! Bravo!
This was a great episode. Well done for getting back to the original idea. No more of that garbage from last week, please.
I love that he loves simplicity. There is a true elegance with the simplicity of every piece which is just sweet and beautiful…
I'm fully behind this ethos. While I totally appreciate the high end complications of chrono/AC, PCs and split seconds etc.....however, I only collect 3 handers (or two) and if I have a choice between date and no date I'm going no date. I am, however, a sucker for a pointer date. Just my two cents.
Could be my favourite episode to date. So cool to listen to a designer talk about others' designs.
A great conversation. You can really tell the theme of simplicity and purpose throughout the collection as well as in the cars he designs. Certainly one of the most influential designers of our time. In a way the Defender and Range Rover are the Submariners of the car industry.
True. The current Defender and RR are the “6 figures and ceramic bezel” Rolexes!
Fantastic. Just Two collectors talking real watches. And not in their pajamas. Great job Cole.
What a fantastic episode of talking watches. Great guest and as always, Cole has done a great job. Can’t wait for the next!
Talking watches is back on track! Great to see someone with passion and personal style 👍🏻
If Hodinkee is remembered for nothing else, ‘talking watches’ should be it. There are other, very good YT watch channels with similar segments, but Honinkee executes personal interviews to perfection. For this one in particular, I love how a guy who spends his time and talents designing machines with hundreds, if not thousands, of moving parts and probably 4 different internal computer systems, has a watch collection whose theme seems to be - simplicity executed to perfection.
I really like Massimo’s taste in watches. The simple and easy-to-read dials are what I gravitate towards. Also, the movement of the second hand on that Grand Seiko was so smooth. No downgrading from Alton Brown if he sees you wearing that one.
Tag Heuer Kirium was my first nice watch also. Blue dial on bracelet and i wore it for 15 years straight as my only watch.
Great episode. Cole has a wonderful interview style that allows the interviewee to talk instead of the interviewer dominating the conversation.
Gotta respect a man who has respect for seiko and their ingenuity
It's awesome to see him sketching on a pad with pens.
Very sweet guy. Love the variety of this collection. Cole always does a tremendous job. So sincere and genuine.
Great interview. Its refreshing to hear a guest who can passionately describe his watches along with the story of how he bought it.
This was a brilliant episode! Great to see a proper talking watches again
I could listen to this gentleman all day, very well spoken with a collection befitting his status and personality
Really enjoyed Mr Frascella & his collection. Very tasteful and personal.
Always an impeccable job from Cole! One of the best Talking Watches 👏
This is 100% Hodinkee
What an amazing collection
Best Talking Watches in a long while!
thanks for bringing it back cole
The perfect example of how to enjoy watches to their fullest.
Now THAT's a Talking Watches. Well done.
Great Video ! We however would love to see the full uncut video! I can see many watches like a Seiko Alpinist and a Zenith around 2:10 and I think discussions on those watches would have been great :)
Why is Cole's voice so soothing?
Excellent episode, really enjoyed this. Thanks guys!
This is classy gentleman with good taste. Even his shirt and jacket have the right stance and proportions, and his pocket square is arranged nicely. You can tell this is a man who likes simplicity but also appreciates subtle details. I think he also might appreciate some of the simpler recent Tudors and possibly some classic Cartiers. He is evidently drawn to strong, simple and distinctive design language, which makes sense given his job designing iconic vehicles.
We share a lot in common in our design sensibility. I also have 2 Unimatics, a steel Rolex diver (D Blue), Panerai Luminor, field watches and a few others in my collection (some JLCs, Breitling, and Omega Moonwatch, etc.) APRO and GS with Spring Drive are also high on my wishlist, although sadly, PP now seems out of reach! No matter the price point, I also want to collect watches that have a strong design language and ideally, are iconic. These will never go out of style.
TW is back! Great collection, love that Tag and the Calatrava, oh and that double logo Snowflake is so pretty!
Probably the best talking watches excluding the John Mayer ones 👍🏻 Well done team!
Loved all the different buying stories, the way it should be...
Can we get a Part 2 to go thru the whole collection? This was great. Nice job by everyone.
Once again HODINKEE. Great video however toooooo short. There were at least another 20 pieces I’d like to know more about
My favorite series! Please make more!
we will miss you cole
Stoked to watch this, great to see a variety of brands/styles instead of 40 Rolexes (though that's fun sometimes to)--thanks for the vid!
Un designer italiano dal buon gusto tutto italiano. Collezione varia, ponderata e di gran pregio.
Interesting no mention of the Bremont Jaguar collaboration. Thought that certainly would've been brought up.
One of the best episodes ever.
Excellent episode, beautiful collection. Love how it started with a Tag
That Patek at 16:58 is scary tight on his wrist lol
An instructive collection to guide a new enthusiast.
With the Defender JLR are going through their quartz phase.. best tech for telling time but hey not what our hearts want. Like many I’ve both. Love my quartz daily wear but my heart with the auto mechanical that hasn’t changed in 50 years.
Cole is a great interviewer
Fascinating! Love the series keep ‘em coming .
Brave of Cole Pennington to venture into Coventry! When German bombers blitzed the city during WW2 it was estimated afterwards that the raids had caused 10s of £ millions worth of improvements.......))) There's also a saying in the UK that someone can be "Sent to Coventry" - meaning that no one should talk to them, and everyone should act like they no longer exist..... Enough said))
Nevertheless, a really good episode of Talking Watches with a great guest, a very likeable genuine guy with interesting stories, told with passion about the hobby. Kudos to Cole for knowing to sit back to allow Massimo to talk about his watches and the history behind them. Nice to see an episode from outside the US, and a good one at that!
?
Interesting episode as in the past... & ... great to see Cole Pennington again !
What a collection! Great episode
Wow that seiko monopusher is incredible! State is incredible
Loved this episode. Bravo Cole!
I like Massimo Frascella watch collection. The Tag Heuer Kirium is one of my favorite watches, I think is one of the most beautiful watches ever designed. I like Massimo Rolexes, The IWC Grand Pilot, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and the Grand Seiko.
I really wish this was longer going through each watch on the table.
Great episode!
Great episode! Really enjoyed this one 👍
Great episode. He should get the original domed crystal for his explorer. The boxed service crystals diminish the beauty of the 1016 a little.
That's a great collection. Too bad they did not have time to talk about other watches in his collection. Great episode anyway.
Cole's real calling in life is being an ASMR artist
that patek was beautiful
The collection here is winning
Great collection. The coolest watches he had, however, were, by far, not the most expensive.
Let’s get more of these types of stories over pop stars
Awesome episode. Love it
Is that the new LR Defender? So it is not just another Land/Range Rover? Wow! Would've never guessed that: paused to see that's what is written on the hood!
Nice collection, only missing a Casio
I was really expecting to see the Bremont Jaguar collection in here.. I guess he didn’t get any discount.
Cole you need to create some audiobooks. I'd pay double.
Cool episode.. makes me shed a tear of pure sadness that times where you could walk into AP boutique, ask if they have something you can walk out with, and they actually do, are gone and likely never to return 😢
I wanted to see every watch on that table
He didn’t bring back the defender, he destroyed it 😭
About time Grand Seiko got some shine on TW.
thoughts on the new defender body style??
Great watches.
Interestingly enough the IWC has kind of a 44 GS case!🤩
I love ware on that AP
Loved it 😍
Nice varied collection. Glad it wasn't just a parade of Rolexes.
A P(iece) of art. Loved that one :)
why did you destroy the legacy of Landrover Defenders?
Sad! Not all the watches were shown
Great, and I own a 05 XJ8 which gets more compliments than my Bentley. I own two Jags........
Ahh there were so many other amazing watches on the table. This one could have gone another 5-10 mins. Missed opportunity :(
Only this guy and Howie Kendrick really have good watch collection not a boring Rolex or AP watch collection what you mostly see in Hodinkee.
Simplicity, not complexity, is a sign of good design
I saw the title and I was like "Hmm, he might have some interesting takes..." And then boom! The GS Snowflake in the first shot hahah I was right
We like this.
You need a Seiko Alpinist
Didn't Cole leave HODINKEE?
So many epic watches.. Why not give it another 10minutes and show us a few more. Seems like a shame and a discredit to really only highlight a few. Despite that, a great episode. A humble man,
Mannnn - why is there like 100 watches on the table and you only talk 10 of them?
im sorry Cole, for some reason you look very similar to Nico Leonard lol
Excited to see more obscenely wealthy people show off their trophies. This hobby has become nothing more than the ability to buy whatever is respected at any given time.
Ask him when my truck will be delivered lol.
